Post by: FearPeteySodes

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd start a thread for my new project because i got great feedback on my last one and this keeps me honest!

So the idea here is that id like to get away from Chaos because I'm always playing or modeling them and id like to do something fresh. With my Beasts army not being viable in 8th the way i played them I've lost interest. Ogres seem cool with a lot of visual potential and with the new book hopefully they'll get some love and i can get in on the ground floor. Since i plan to make all my models new releases aren't really a concern either.

TLDR - Here's the WIP for my first Bull. He's made form a normal bull model clipped and pinned more dynamically with first detail layer green stuff on him.:

The theme I'm going for has kind of evolved from wanting to do a WoC Army with no god devotion and model them like savage yet noble northmen with wolf themes and ties to the mystic. Something of a cross between Vikings and the Native Americans. The WoC list though didn't jump at me since its so similar to what I've done already so i thought it could translate phenomenally to Ogres! I'd get a smaller amount of larger models to dink around with so i could add loads of character to each and the list and style is somewhat out of my comfort zone so i could get better.

You'll notice that I'm modeling them fitter than Ogres which to me will allow for some more opportunities in terms of motion and positioning. In the fluff in my head actually, I'm not even sure i want to call them ogres. I'd like to paint them a pale blue skin tone with darker blue warpaint.

Anyways, i have so many ideas for this project I'm really excited so I'll get back to work and see what you good people think!

Sidenote:
I have more WIP shots of this guy in my gallery, and presently I've trimmed his kilt thing and added fur lining to his boots. I'll upload when more gets done on him.

Updated:

I de-ogred his head (lumps, fat lines, and scraggly facial hair) to give him a Norse look. I'm not done, i intend to give him a head of hair and need to fill the beard in a bit too. The clothes are trimmed and tattered with the base of a belt started that i plan on detailing today too. I plan on filling the gaps between the cloth and his body with tufts of fur for lining which will make the groin piece look better too i imagine.

Im struggling to keep this guy simple as he's going to just be a bull but i found to Space Wolf accessory sprues to that didn't help...

Mock-up with arms and head tacked in place roughly:

One for size:

Aaaand a crap quality pic of the back:

Heh, thanks! I'm not trying to actively distance myself from the OK lore or anything though so it wouldn't bother me really. In my head the fluff i have for them would be that they are from Varg in the Norsca. So who's to say they aren't an old old Ogre tribe that wandered far off and settled outside the influence of the Great Maw.

That makes it more interesting IMO.

How many points of ogres are you planning to make?

I'm trying not to think of it like that because in the past I've rushed to get something i can put on the table and inevitably i get overwhelmed. I'd like though if i could get enough to take to a tournament as its always been a goal of mine to get a best appearance or army award. Given that, I'd say roughly 2500 points seems reasonable, but i also haven't played since 7th and with the new book incoming i could be way off.

Well so far planned:

Ogre bulls = what you see above
Ironguts = Heavily armed/armored versions of the above

Gnoblars = Converted Dwarves (Tomte)
Gnoblar trappers = wolves

Gorgers = Great wolves
Yhetee = Possibly frost wolves or a more etherial looking wolf

Butchers = Runecaster shaman aesthetic

Rhinox riders = Either great wolves or bear cavalry, i haven't decided.

Just a taste!

Quick update:

Detailed around the edge of the clothing and attached the head. I don't want to muscle the neck together though without the arms in place. The problem with that is im not sure what i want to do with the off-hand. Without knowing if ironfists are going to make it in the new book, im thinking it best to just do whatever i want and explain it later. I don't want to use the ironfist models as they look too brutal.

If anyone has any interesting ideas id be open to it. So far my ideas are:

Shield that looks convincing enough to double as a weapon
Some sort of gauntlet
Painting or figuring out how to cast a clear ice hand would be cool

Where is his paunch and Gutplate? I believe it is confirmed that ogres (except butchers) have a 6+ save from the gutplate.

Looks good though keep it up.

Well the heavy theme im doing is that they are not ogres strictly speaking. I think since the 6+ save is across the board i would be able to explain it as a rule and call it "hardiness" or something. I don't see this being a problem really.

COOL! Really nice sculpting all around. I'm pretty excited about the theme and amount of converting that is planned. In that vain, I vote for the bear cav. counts as rhinox. Also, have you given any thought to using some dire wolves (perhaps GS over the rotting flesh) for the gorgers. Then you could use the great wolves as the yhetees.

As for the first frost giant, the details so far are looking very good. You obviously have a lot of talent with the GS. Have you thought about just scultping some armour onto a "bare" hand, or a reverse grip knife?

The one thing that's urking me about the model is he looks like he's tip toeing around. If there was more motion in his skirt it might help... it may be due to a lack of arms in the last pic, too.

I'm looking forward to moar!

Thanks for the awesome feedback! The Wolf Gorgers were actually one of the first ideas i had aside from the frost giants, and i have a spare Juggernaut ready to be ground down and greened out but one thing at a time. I want them to be absolutely beastly. One thing at a time though!

For the fist i like the knife idea, i could make a simple seax held like you say and even loop a shield around his bad to cover my bases. Im not sure about simply putting the armor on his fist, not sure it fits the tribal aesthetic, plus he's look odd should they choose to cut ironfists.

I totally agree that from those pics his weight looks shoddy but i think its a bit better in person. I plan to get those arms on to see how he's balanced then add some do-dads to show more motion. I also need to fill out his beard and add hair which should do the trick too.

Again thanks, i love hearing this stuff!

Arms on, back/shoulder/neck sculpting begins at lunch today. Hopefully this shot clears up any tiptoeing issues.

From the front, wouldn't want to receive that charge, weapons or no...

Speaking of weapons:

The sword itself is larger than most models so i doubt ill have trouble convincing anyone it adheres to the rumored choppa style Ogre clubs. Still need to model the crossguard but i wont be attaching the weapons until all bodywork is done so im not in a hurry to do so.

As always CC encouraged!

Hello!

Thanks for all the feedback so far, good to know people don't hate the idea!

Well i had a productive weekend, got a lot done on this guy:

Back
Arms
Touched up the fur line on belt
Hair!

Still needs work on the beard and I would like to clean up his offhand a bit, but other than that i may call this guy done. I have spent a week on a single bull after all...

So with this guy being more or less my prototype I'm hoping i can go about these more efficiently without sacrificing the quality because I'm happy with this guy overall. I ended up doing a lot of redundant sculpting because i just wasn't sure how he was going to pan out, like sculpting his full legs that are now covered by his dress. I think with how i modeled this guy though it leave a lot of room for flavor in the remaining units though. Their beards, hair, weapons, builds even can all be unique. I'm also proud of myself that i restrained myself in the armor department so modeling Irongut equivalents shouldn't be a struggle.

So i intend to finish his beard and any other touch ups today. I plan to paint him before modeling another one but I'm on the fence on whether or not i should attempt a frost dwarf "gnoblar" so i can simultaneously test colors.

Let me know what you think!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Beard!

Aaand im going to call it. Base and prime coming up!

I'm running out of positive adjectives while commenting on the various modeling blogs here anyway, so I'll use a classic:

Amazing. I am in awe of your greenstuff skils. You took the rather ridicoulus looking plastic Ogre and turned him into a menacing looking giant. It really has a giant-y feel to it, probably because you got rid of the Ogre proportions.

Can't wait to see how it'll look painted!

I love what you've done with the ogre. I would continue to get a unit or so of these converted from a practicality standpoint. Not to dissuade you but in 8th you have to have 25% core units so that means usually 2 big units of either bulls or ironguts with some gnoblars thrown in. If you take a look at the rumors section, you'll see some large monsters that you can fill in the rest of your army's points with. Also, make use of filler unit markers. Make a tree on a base as a counts as ogre. I want you to finish this army, but it is going to take some dedication to get to a workable 700pts of core if you greenstuff 75% of your model.

He looks great. I'm always reluctant to paint, but if you do paint before modeling the dwarf, make note of the colors you used. I always forget some of them.

The wrist armour I was talking about is really just thick leather, like this:
Spoiler:

I love the braids and the details on the sword (tho few) feel very "authentic" for him. I am looking forward seeing more.

@Rama - Thanks man good to hear from you! I was on a hobby hiatus for a while with work being crazy and buying a house bla blah blah. But now i have a respectable workshop room and the good fight can continue!

@inmygravenimage - Thanks a lot, hopefully i wont disappoint!

@buckero0 - I was actually list crunching last night and as a base doing 9 Bulls and 9 Ironguts i think is a reasonable start for the army. Its about 1k points so i figure that decent for the time being. Plus yes i love those new monsters, i was especially keen on how convertible those cat cav models are to look lupine to stay in theme. As long as i dont get greedy with

@The Good Green - Yea i figured as much that that was what you had meant. I really like how the parrying dagger idea turned out for him though! I hope they keep ironfist in the new book if nothing else for how vague the description is allowing me to have a rather diverse looking equipment set. I'll for sure get some more armor on the IG's!

Figured painting would be inificiaent doing just one so i fugure i may make the box worth before i break out the paints.

So without further delay i started my bellower. Here's some pics of the surgery of him going chubby to champion:

OH THE PAIN

AARGH MAKE IT STOP

Bam instant weight loss!

So I'm pissed because i framed it all up and realized i swapped the feet. It works out but i don't like the similarity to the first guys lower half. I'm going to give this guy pants to offset this, should also be a bit quicker of a sculpt.

I'll model the torso and lower half tonight and see where it takes us but I'm going for this:

Wicked intimidating with wolf-like imagery. Hopeing it turns out well!

And the similar pose probably show up so much when they're standing in a unit. Especially since you're doing something completly different with the upper body.

Do you have any plans what models you're going to use in this army apart from the regular GW Ogres? Should we help looking?

Thanks Guys!

Rama: Yea I'm not that concerned. Prototype guy will most likely end up in the second+ rank anyways, i hope i didn't make the best one first...

So far my plan is this:

Gnoblars: Dwarf quarrelers - Not going to do much with these as it would be incredibly demoralizing to dramatically convert 2 point models. The look works well and i feel they'll compliment the "Ogre" units well.
Gorgers: Probably large wolves - I have a spare juggernaut i plan to tinker with. I may wait to see the size of the sabercat cav in comparison. Which brings us to....
New Cav: Make the cats wolves - Should be pretty simple, people are already crying Thunderwolf cav anyways. Plus with my modified proportions i should make them be able to more naturally sit on the beasts.
New Big Beastie (Stonehorn) - Big Freakin Bear Monster!: TBD but i cant wait to get going on it!

Rest of the Ogre type units will be more of what you've seen just with differing equipment. More armor for Ironguts, a runecaster/shaman look for butchers, tracker looking Hunter, Beowulf/Game of Thrones Night's Watch Tyrant.

I have plenty of ideas, I'll keep busy...

This gives me hope that I can, in fact, use the Bull models for an Ogryn conversion I've had planned. Albiet with a ton of greenstuff work.

I did Moltar! I think it's great!

I'm not a fan of the white tusk guy as much, but i also just don't know what role it's supposed to play so that could change. Like i said earlier I'm totally "nomming" at the bit to turn that Stonetusk model into some sort of Arctic Cave Bear Monster thing and likewise the cats into wolves.

No real rush for me to convert anything out of that artillery, it's just not my play style. Since I'm making gnoblars as dwarflike models it's no stretch to think of possibilities there. I suppose we'll see how badly i get pounded in like a year when im done and i may change my mind haha.

Update: Pants are being worked on at lunch today so we'll see if i have anything pic worthy by EoD.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone!

Yeah, i know what you mean. I saw that stonetusk thing and my mind instantly went to "Giant Demon Prince of Nurgle" conversion. I'm sure we'll see all kinds of awesome conversions from all these models around the internet when the time comes.
The only thing I'm not sold on is that Ironblaster. There is no way that shoddy wood, tied together with loose bandages, would withstand the recoil from that cannon. I think that whole waggon and the poor thing pulling it would shatter under it's blast.

Update Time!

I have the basic form of everything for the main portion of his body and it looks like this!

I trimmed up the head so he's not such a chunk, kinda subtle i suppose:

I think the Warhammer gods cursed me when i mused earlier that pants would be easier than legs to sculpt. Man was i wrong. It's not harder i would say but it's more time consuming because at least in the way I've been doing it I've done two base layers already and I'm still far from happy. Here's a shot though:

Still need to clean up his chest and core because I'm not thrilled with that either but otherwise he's shaping up. I also think i may give this guy a bandolier with a sword on his back. Not intending to cop out on fixing the chest, but mostly because in my head that pose would be cooler with two empty hands.

It's been pretty amusing though sculpting while wearing my most sacked out PJ pants standing like Captain Morgan to get the way the cloth sits. The looks my girlfriend gives me are priceless.

Funny thing though, when I saw that first pic there with the belt and thought of the yelling head the first (and now only) thing to pop into my head was Bruce Lee in Enter the Dragon. Actually, it could work as maneaters. Just have some temple up there and instead of travelling the world your "ogres" could train in a monastary type deal. Would explain the WS bonus and whatnot, plus retaining the artic theme. Also for iron fists you could just model a sheild with an iron spike on the front, sorta like what william wallace was famous for, you know?

Grrr, work is kicking my butt right now but i finally have a worthy update:

The Bellower!

Closed his eyes and added more of a howl look to his mouth. This will be cleaned up a bit when i add hair.

So whats left planned for this guy:

Back/Shoulders/neck - Not much going on there ATM
Hair - I think I'll give this guy shorter hair than Ogre1, there's a guy in Brian Wood's Northlanders series that i may try and emulate. We'll see.
Hands - Still deciding whether i should torture myself by sculpting the hands or not (No good "Claw" open hands for this size). Part of me wants to do it to practice but the other part says this is a 35 point Core model idiot!
Weapons - Planned to have an axe off a loop on his belt on his left and a sword/shield on his back off a leather/furred bandolier. Im thinking of using a Beastmen wooden shield (large) and adding a metal core in the middle.
Misc. - Need to weather the pants a bit, looks too crisp atm. Fur lining on the boots to tie the models together. Overall smoothing/sanding of the sculpted bits, looks a bit rough in a few places.

Hopefully i can get the base of his Back/Shoulders/Neck done at lunch today so i can wrap this guys tonight. One a week would be a pretty good pace for the moment. Plus i'll need to keep it for my August vow!

I know you wanted to go bare handed with this one. with a sword strapped to his back. However the pose to me suggests that he would look better with
A). An axe in each hand or something, and bellowing his victory cry over the corpse of a dead adversary, or
B) sword impaled into the ground with dead opponent or just in the ground and bellowing like he is screaming out a primal prayer to his weapon in advance of the impending battle.

However, I think your idea is brilliant and maybe an open hand rather than a clenched fist would go better (the balled hands just make me feel he should be holding something), I am aware that they may not do these hands for ogres, but I am sure you have the GS-fu to do it.

I would so love to have these models for myself, especially the first one, it is so lifelike and the aggressive posing is amazing.

Just to start off thank you guys so much for the feedback! When I initially said in my first post that you guys keep me honest this is exactly what i meant. So the hands thing i did just to see how it looked if i wanted to be lazy, and it didn't look as awkward as i had pictured so in truthfulness I fully intended to laze out and keep it that way. There's also a nasty gap in his head/neck (pic 2/3) that i somehow magically missed.

Not now! Today I'll attempt to make hands for him. Here's some pictures of what were the final shots:

Dantay_xv: With the shield, axe and some imagination on the hands do you still feel the same way with the equipment? I'm loving how the attempt at a Norse shield turned out and i like the axe but i also dug your ideas.

Rama: Thanks for the vote of confidence haha!

After the hands experiment comes the Bannerman stay tuned and again thank you guys so much for the ideas and encouragement!

The axe and shield look cool, I especially like the shield, did you make it yourself or go with the beastman shield in the end?

The pose almost reminds me of Garagim Ironfist (dwarf slayer king's son) who has 2 axe heads on chains 1 wrapped around each hand/forearm. (was trying to remember the pose this morning).
http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440017a&prodId=prod1140283&rootCatGameStyle=

I like what you have done with him, maybe a dead body or horse or something under his foot, as if he is daring all-comers to get him or claim what he is stepping on. Or put a trinket/head something in 1 of the hands so he has something to be bellowing about.

As for your first model, he is definitely for the front rank, that dynamic and aggressive pose would be wasted in the second rank. It is truly beautiful

Post by: FearPeteySodes

The shield was the larger beastman shield but with the gubbins scraped off and wood grain carved in where it was (a giant pain). For the middle that i don't know the technical name for it is just pressed a sphere of GS into it, let it cure then added the cone and rivets.

He does have a resemblance to Ironfist, I'm glad i didn't go with the mohawk or i may have gotten a C&D letter from GW the way things are going haha. For the basing, both models just have a teeny dab of glue on the base to keep them from falling but i plan to remove them to go all out with the basing.

I haven't had good luck with basing bodies on my minis though, it always bugs me. I did that with a CSM army i had back in the day where I gave my friends a model to paint in the scheme of their armies and i corpse-a-fied it for some of my centerpiece models. It nagged at me though when my opponents didn't match. I'm weird though.

I do like the trinket idea though, if the hand thing ends up just sucking my soul away, it may be something for a hand to grab.

Post by: dantay_xv

Lol, I find corpses hard to do too, damned space marine backpacks make the bodies look like they are levitating and the legs look un-natural.

I generally just put bits of armour or banner tops to make life easier. Unless I give an opponent a good going-over, then I add a bit of their models colours to the base to tease them.

The shield does look nice, even though it was a pain to work on, will you be using them throughout your army?

Don't forget to fur-line the boots

I likely wont make another shield until the book comes out just because i don't have all the facts about Ironfists. I want to tread that fine line of WYSIWYG and not having them look like a rank and file army with standard equipment. The shield for the bellower is replacing the parrying dagger for the first guy really with the defense and offense capabilities. After all, on Deadliest warrior that viking shield of a similar style was great defense and output some crazy PSI when bashing people. Until i know if the ironfists are changes I'd rather keep my bases covered (another reason SB is next).

And yea he'll get fuzzy boots.

I was thinking about it last night actually and i'll have to see how it fits into the list. Fire obviously would make exactly zero sense in this army and im not sure how cool a frost wizard would look in this army, there's going to be enough blue and white so it's not like he'd be a standout model. I'm more excited to model runecasting shaman butchers.

Dantay: Fur boots done.

Here's what i have so far:

I just put two hand size blobs on the wire, and let it cure. Then added the fingers, the fingers from the back and the thumbs from the front so it adds that meat to the palm. That cured and i trimmed down the excess so the next step is to build out the details again. I intent to add more curl to the fingers which will make them less frail looking.

I dunno, first try at hands and i think it will end up looking good.

The new look:

A bit meatier looking on the one in focus. The plan earlier was to fill out the frame from the earlier pics but the fingers as i said were just too frail. The solution i used was to just model a finger at a time to the right size the first time. Seems ok but i didn't bring the model itself to check the look. I'm going to hold off on the second hand until tonight when i get home. I may do a 50/50 compromise where i may model something in his closed hand like Dantay suggested and pop on the new open hand in the other. We'll see.

I already am behind on my August vow and am going to have to get crackin on the other Ogres. The SB is all cut apart and ready to get framed up so hopefully i can wrap up this hand nonsense soon.

I was going to ask if you were using a wire frame to make the hand outline, or if it was pure GS?

The wire, certainly for the fingers would give you something to work from and also make the hand stronger.

Finally satisifed with this guy:

First hand i made (his right) turned out kinda meh but the second one (left) ended up a lot better. So i should be in good shape should i feel the need to do another set for a Character or something that will need to hold up to more scrutiny.

I didn't end up using wire for the digits because i have problems with the GS getting poked through the thin wire needed for this kinda thing.

Now i have all the pieces cut apart for the Standard Bearer. For him i'll be trying a more relaxed pose but would like to give him a pretty imposing look, like he's eying the enemy down and ready to charge at an instant. Hopefully I'll get the frame done today and maybe filled in, i would really like to hit the ground running on this guy and bang it out. After he's done i'll technically have my first unit!

Here's the banner style I'm going to use too:

I won't be using the raven most likely but i think that flag is pretty awesome and will look really dynamic and fitting for the theme.

Thanks for sticking with me!

Thanks for the compliments!

Well the idea is really I'll be using the core ogre models and rules to run a counts as frost giant army. I may have explained it better before but the idea for this army preceded the idea to use the ogre models and rules.

I have no desire to really actively distance myself from the GW ogre lore but I consider the project to be separate. This way if I model them different enough who's to say I can't run them as a minotaur beast list if I'm feeling extra savage that day!

Edit: I'll post what I have of my standard bearer tomorrow, it's pretty rough right now as is. Also Monster Rain you made me realize I need to vary up the body types. I'll make the SB a bit softer and see how he looks. Older and wiser you know!

Hello!

Some quick WIP shots of the Standard Bearer:

Lower half, sort of a mid stride pose. Shins are going to have the cross strapped furs that apparently after research Vikings didn't actually use. Not that i care since it looks cool, but hey who says this stuff isnt educational. So i have the straps and ill add fur in between when it's cured.

Upper torso, making this guy a tad pudgier (doesn't show yet) as maybe the SB is an older honored member of the society. He'll have a solid beard rest assured.

And because i know you may lack the same vision i have meticulously re-created my artistic vision using the latest in imaging technology. Prepare to be amazed as i will likely not be able to re-create this masterpiece in all it's glory with my current sculpting skills:

Yea, that just happened.

Bahaha! I don't know why but I hear them talking as if Michael Clark Duncan was in the 13th warrior. Also cursing because that's always super manly. "Honey! It's made from honey!"

Seriously though I really sad because I got a fuzzy prime last night. I have comparatively so little time that this is something I really didn't want to deal with. I'll need to find some simple green today somewhere and strip it.

Nothing ruins a painting mood like that though, but I expect to get some more done on SB.

These are looking very nice.

One note on the banner, the Raven banner is actually very famous historically. Using raven iconography was very common as it symbolized Odin's ravens. One, in particular, was known as the 'Land-waster' banner. The 'Land-waster' was flown by Harold Hardrada, and was carried during his ill fated conquest of England (it is notable that his men went berserk fighting under it/for it, and whenever it was in danger they fought like men possessed). Viking sagas and accounts yield a number of more occurances of the raven being a typical icon on banners.

Thank you! Yea i love reading those stories. I'm not opposed to using the raven, but i would like to keep the real world references to a minimum. Create their own legend if you will. I may try and use the same style to make a wolf icon or something.

Also i changed my answer, they will sound like a slightly sped up version of Jon Rys Davies' Treebeard from LoTR.

Actually it's the large Beastmen shield from the old Gor boxes. Not sure if they're included anymore but luckily i have a stockpile.

A bit more progress on this guy:

Below the knees should be good. The knife i brought today isn't sharp enough to cut the GS on the kilt as cleanly as id like so I'll probably leave it alone for now and concentrate on the waist today. I cant decide whether or not he should have a weapon or a shield on/in is right arm. I love the way the shield turned out on the last guy but i want them looking aggressive. Thoughts?

In other news, the fuzzy prime is mostly stripped away. The primer is off the GS completely but stills it persisting on the plastic. I'm super paranoid about ruining the GS though so i want to leave it in the Simple Green as little as possible. If I've scrubbed the majority away if i re-prime will the previous coat show as lines underneath?

What about a shield strapped to his arm and an axe held in the same hand? Though that could be overkill...

I think maybe a small (for a frost giant) hand-axe could be a good move on this guy. Also, I reckon a belt wouldn't look too bad on the SB.

What's the length of this fella's beard going to be like? Are we talking a comfortable sized growth of face-fungus, or a good ol' knee tickler?

Something like this I hope *hint*

Weapon or shield? hm... If he is holding the standard resting against his shoulder than I think it should be a weapon in his other hand. But I like the idea of him battering someones face with the standard.

Which reminds me: Standards aren't always flags. He could be holding anything that the Frost Giants hold special or sacred. It could be a fancy club or something.

On the other hand, the standard bearer is meant to e a hardier fighter, so he could be sporting a weapon as he is skilled enough to use it to parry and strike in the same motion.

OR, have you thought about a weaponlized shield? Something with sharp angles and spikes sticking out of it.

Lots of good possibilities, but I think it depends how you see him holding the standard, and what the standard is.

Ok, reading over the posts again, going with the older, chubbier thing, I think a shield that can easily be used as a weapon and a standard that can be used as a weapon if he need or wants to would be perfect. That way he is protected so he doesn't have to work as hard to stay off a blade (so he's put on some pounds) but he can still nail anything to the floor if it crosses him.

Wow. I'm not sure how I missed this, but this is excellent work!

I like the idea of the standard being some form of significant weapon; maybe a large broken sword that's used as a rallying point to remind them of some past failure? Maybe this older guy is one of the few survivors of a massacre and he's leading the younger generation into battle carrying a reminder of this

The SB is looking really cool, the way you describe the paunch reminds me of Col. Corbec from the Gaunts Ghosts stories.

As for the primer, no idea what a respray will do, I hope it will come out okay, if you have some chaos black, why dont you use a brush an apply some to a non obvious area (under a foot, behind a shield or something and see how it dries.

I'd say weapon,as he would use it to keep the others in-line or kill any enemies who came at him, the shield would not be so good for that, although it would be representative of his armour save.

I do like the idea of having the weapon and shield on the same arm, but I think that would work if he was holding a long knife behind the shield with the blade just poking out. That way his arm would not look overloaded.

Or give the shield a razor sharp edge so he can swing and hack with it (a bit like the spartans di from time to time in the movie 300)

Thanks guys!

Couple of updates:

Resprayed my first guy and jobs a good 'un. I started painting and I'm happy with the colors so far, nothing pic worthy though as I'm just tooling around trying to remember how to paint.

Here's the pattern for some of the cloth bits I'll be using:

These tartan people are serious about their patterns! Just another thing I've learned from this project. Seriously though i think the burnt orange will make the blue skin pop and it should be a pretty striking look. I have no doubt it'll take some practice to look right though.

I decided to go weapon for the SB, after some mock ups it just looks "right". I found a really cool scenery brick that would make an imposing stone hammer . Also i decided that the raven style banner would be a way better BSB than a unit standard so I'll have to think of something else for this guy. Maybe a vertical hanging banner with various bits, but that's basically the last step so i can wait.

Finished his waistline and codpiece so shoulders will be tonight hopefully. I'll post pics when it's update worthy!

Haha that's great! While i can't go GW since they're bulls I'm seriously considering that back banner. Then i can go HW:S as the counts as Ironfist. Plus i think it will look pretty brutal. I think I'll try lining an edge of the shield with a bladed edge. Either way i have to finish the back and shoulders since i can do either pose with the same build, but after that I'll be able to judge it better.

Thanks for the ideas Kitch and Dantay!

YOu're very welcome buddy, though I'm now thinking that twin swords could look just so brutal.

You ever seen a show called Deadliest Warrior? They simulate battles between warriors fom different sides of the world against each other, like nija's vs medieval knights? They had this one on, I think they were Buddhists or monks of some kind, and they had these swords that curled right around at the tip so they could join both together to make one huge sword... trying to find a picture but no luck yet. That would be unique and pretty cool, not sure if it'd be too much of a nimble weapon for such a brute though - wdyt?

Pretty decent update today actually. I feel bad I've been nickle and diming it lately (blah blah work blah) but i have made some good progress i think.

On the standard bearer front:

Seems like the camera (iphone) is making the hammer comically huge but i like the look in person. This guy is turning out so well to me it's crazy. I don't usually make static poses so i went in feeling pretty uncomfortable but maybe I'm getting the rust off because he's turning out better than i had hoped. I also decided i can do the HW plus the Shieldfist regardless of banner type i use. So the dilemma is thus, which banner type:

The classic and original design for this guy, adding the hand around the banner properly of course:

Or the newly suggested Back Banner, which would require making a harness of some sort:

I'm leaning towards option A just because i think it looks more interesting honestly. The layering of the shield to hand to banner i think adds a lot of depth and is full of character. I also think the harness i would need to make would clutter up the torso. I just convinced myself while typing this...I'll revisit the idea when trying my ironguts.

In painting news, my first attempt at tartan was pretty darn good i think. I think it will look awesome with the colors I've chosen. I have the Bellower totally base coated now and I'm chomping at the bit to dig in tonight. If i have anything good come tomorrow I'll post it, I'd love to get some color/painting critiques.

I just need my Skullcraft Winter Basing Kit to come too and I'll be happy. I can't wait to play around with it, Ogres have so much real estate to work with!

Some paint!

So there is a bit of shading on the face and torso but not much. I'm still getting the rust off so i should be able to tighten it up before he's done. Other than the little shading it's just base coat so everything should be pretty drastically lighter when finished. His shield sash will be that tartan pattern i linked earlier as I'd like that to be a common theme. His cuffs and boots will be lined with a dark grey fur as well since i may use a darker armor on future models.

Not entirely sold on the hair yet, but i have to wait until his actual skin tone comes through since he's a damn smurf a the moment. I just don't want to have my whole army just have the classic white hair, I want to mix it up.

Standard bearer:

New shield design for the Ironfist, i think it keeps the Norse aesthetic but adds a unique twist. I think it turned out well and I'll incorporate more on future models. I just need to clean some of the GS transitions, finish his back, Head/neck, hair, and modify his hand a bit to look more natural.

Edit: OOOH! I forgot, i also bought two boxes of these for my gnoblars. Drastically modeling 2 point models would make me cut something vital on myself so i think these with a few tweaks will look awesome:

Yea that's the plan. Or at the very least maybe normal flesh tone and blue warpaint, i still need to sit down and write up some lore for these guys. It's all just a mess of ideas in my head right now.

The more i see it the more i hate how blue he is actually. I love that it's pretty striking but it's not scary, just loud. I'll test things out when i can sit down and paint again.

Well, you're obviously not done yet with the skin tone, but I can see how blue skin can be tough. I don't use blue a lot, so I wouldn't even know how to begin.

I gues I'd go for the skin tone from the the Thor movie, though I don't know how I could pull it off.

Yeah, less blue.

No, it's a perfect start. I would suggest looking at glaciers for some inspiration with the big guys skin.
Something like this:
Spoiler:

And, with the same in mind, but closer to the ground, for the "dwarfs", something with a bit more gray in it:
Spoiler:

Just my taste for snow giants with icy skin, but I think gray, or an earthier tone would be good for the base of the dwarfs. It supports the fluff of the dwarfs, as coming from under the ground, and the fluff of the gnoblar as being whats left in the wake of the glacier and what's around the giant's feet.

They are looking great. I like how that shield is coming out.

The shield looks brilliant and I love the Big Hammer for nocking a few heads together.

The blue skin is definitely striking and if you stick with it please no white hair or you will be massacred with smurf and smurfette jokes forever.

I agree with the good green, whitish skin, using blues or shadow grey in the recesses a bit like the first pic..... make the eyes bright ble a la the skin now, with a white or silver pupil/iris whatever its called. and use a grey/white for the hair.

The earthy colours would really stand out on the clothes then.

Being from the far north, would you think it would be like here? 6 months daylight, 6 months perpetual darkness? The darknes or cave dwelling would lend itself to a white almost glowy/translucent skin (white with tiny blue veins across the skin or something)

Sucks because all my paint was ruined (old GW caps) so I'm having to piece together a new set and often i don't realize I'm in need of a color until i reach for it. So it's been slow going but I'm having a lot of fun. Hopefully i can get my command (the 3 done so far) finished and painted sometime next week so i can get a feel for the colors, etc.

So for this guy, you can see my attempt at the tartan, I think the pattern itself may be too small. Having pants like this guy will not be the norm however so ill have more than just a bandolier to try it on. I think the orange will come through more with a larger pattern on the kilts. I keep trying to lighten his hair too, it;s too yellow and not enough blonde so i may start over. The fur on the boots and cuffs i base coated shadow grey but I'm thinking i need just straight dark grey or even black and going to a light grey/white.

I keep trying to lighten his hair too, it;s too yellow and not enough blonde so i may start over. The fur on the boots and cuffs i base coated shadow grey but I'm thinking i need just straight dark grey or even black and going to a light grey/white.

Yeah, I would like to see the tartan on a bigger area, but it looks like a good start from what i can see. You also have the benefit of large models, painting tartan on human sized models can be pretty tricky. The bandolier seems kind of stiff for being fabric, and I think it might be tough to get the pattern perfectly aligned down it's length like that.

I love the skin highlights that you added though, and you didn't even mention them in your post. For shame!

I'm loving this project! Keep the updates coming!

Cheers,
Rawson

even though id rather them be skin color seeing as they are frost giants i would work it to more of a greyish white look for skin the rest looks nice but im thinking that the hair might be too light.. hmmm not sure though

I'm loving the skin colour personally, different, brilliantly effective, tells the story... perfect.

I remember seeing this show a while back, I think it was Bear Grills or something, where they were climbing through icebergs and they pointed out that some are 'marbled' due to water feezing VERY quickly at different temperatures, which freezes the water in different colours. Thought that could be a real cool addition to the paint scheme, if you don't mind my 1- pence worth? Here's a picture to show the effect, ignore the fact that it's mostly white though:

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I love the idea of the grayish dwarves! I'll totally experiment with that. I experimented on the guy above with purple ink as well in one section and thought it looked kinda neat, so i may use some subtle variations in hues in the giants too.

The dwarves i got are actually from the Avatars of War line. I'm really excited because I'm such a huge fan of their stuff but never thought to get them because i like converting my characters too much. With the GW relaunch its actually pretty darn close to the same price too.

@Kitch - That's a really interesting effect! I don't know how i would implement though as i feel i would be explaining why one of them has a giant line in him every game. But the general idea kinda plays into what i said above about the skin tones.

Also, my Winter Basing Kit came from Skullcrafts and i must say it looks pretty sweet. I've always halfassed my bases though so this will be interesting to see if i can make it look good.

So tonight i experiment!

Random update:

I'm bored at work with limited options and no glue (idiot) soooo i thought i would for a change of pace post what i have for my next model:

It's time to break up the Ogres, so i figured i should do a Character now that i have some if the size/techniques hammered out. Hence, the Rune Shaman (Butcher)! Now I cant draw for crap really but I think it gets my ideas planned out and organized. I didn't plan on sharing sketches but like i said, I'm bored.

I also like seeing my ideas from brain->paper->model->finished product. It's either really satisfying or a document of how impulsive i am...

He is looking good. But just from the drawing im noticing a few things

1. He looks a bit scrawny, im not saying he should be large cos i know thats your thing. But just muscled up a bit. I dont think old and frail really works for Ogres, arent they Cannabalistic? wouldnt they chow on the weak? (Sorry if im getting the fluff all wrong)

2. I like the idea of the grey base, but think it should be washed blue. Just for the tinge. Or maybe do the final highlight with Ice Blue (GW paint).

3. I dont really like the idea of the bushy brow covering his eyes. It doesnt feel right to me, by all means try it out, but i dont think it will work.

4. The runes falling from one hand to the other is a sweet idea. i love it! But it may be hard to do, i would recommend having the runes in one hand, with the other waving about it while he chants mumbo jumbo.

5. I love your army. I love everything in and about it. Great work. I salute you!

This thread is amazing!

Truly wonderful sculpting on every individual model and conveniently the Ogres have really shifted over to an "ice age" frosted look in the new book.

Can't wait to see the finished paintjob on your first model for this army. I already like what I see for it though!

Will be following!

Post by: Rawson

I like the scrawny idea. I think it would make him scarier! What's scarier than a huge, musclebound, rock weilding giant? The little teeny guy that he's afraid of!

I think a little grey in the skin tone would make him look older, but don't stray too far or he will look like a different species (especially if he is a significantly different size).

I also think it would be tough to do the runes like you've drawn them, but you could try to get some really fine wire or fishing line and string them up, but I don't think you have the space, even with ogres. Maybe you could just have a few more runes and could model a continuous strand falling from one hand to the other.

What do you think about some sort of animal skull on his head, like a boar or something? That would give a pretty sweet shaman look!

Lastly, I think he needs a weapon somewhere...

Hmmm, I seem to be overly opinionated this morning...

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
Rawson

Have you considered doing him more white or crystalline?

I am staeling an idea from the Chaos Dwarves here... their spell casters i think turn to stone or iron as they age. The eldar farseers also turn to wraithbone as they age.

What about a similar concept for the rune shaman.. as he ages he becomes more in tune with his surroundiings to the point that he is becoming a part of it i.e. turning to ice.

I would check beanos space wolf thread, he had runes on his dreadnought (he took silver at Games Day USA) he could give you tips on where he got them or how he did them.

Rawson: Rest assured he'll have some type of weapon I'm sure. As for the runes I'm thinking of emulating the Ork bit that have the spent casings diagonally corner to corner going up and down. Something like that.

Dantay: I love that idea! I guess what i meant by grey rather than blue was just the base color. The blue on the giants is so vibrant if i could mute that a bit but maintain the same general tone that would be what i had in mind. I actually did some basing last night and it turned out great actually fairly similar to Beanos' fantastic dread (i hope )! I plan to get some of the Vallejo Water Gel too to do some quality icicles because i have plans.....so many plans...

Ahem...but yea, I'll totally play around with that!

Kitch: Hard to say, i haven't timed it and i don't have lots of time to really sit down and grind it out like i want too. If i HAD to guess for the sculpting i would say roughly 3-5 hours not including curing as i generally will walk away and do something else. I could be super off though, I'll try and keep the time in mind on my next one.

Thanks for the ideas and encouragement guys!

You got me thinking about the falling runes. Why not run a piece of thin thin thin wire from one hand to another in an exagerated zigzag pattern then you could drill a small hole the same diameter as the wire through a small piece of plasticard in the shape of the runes.
Then you simply thread them on and put a small drip of superglue on the inside of the hole.

This should achieve a pretty cool falling rune effect. But the obvious downside is a piece of wire running from his hand to the other one. You could, in theory, paint the wire the same colour as the robes, which would look reallly really cool. But alas you would still have the same problem from people looking at it from the side.

Infact, this is an idea i way very well try it on something.

First basing attempt for these guys i think is a success. Painted the fur cuffs on the hands and feet but i was drunk (on mead for inspiration) so i don't like how they turned out. But yea all and all shaping up. No updates on the new sculpt as of yet.

Once the paintjob is all done i plan to frost his boots and the cuffs of his pants a bit too.

Happy Ogre Day!

I got a bit more done yesterday, no paint though(sorry). Shaman is coming together but i fething did it again without even thinking. Left foot perched higher than the right. I think i blacked out when i was modeling it then when i came too i had another Captain Morgan model...

Ugh... I think i have a disorder or something...

Oh well, it will look good. I just need to be careful lest i wind up with a theme i didn't intend for. More work will get done on him tonight i hope but with the new book and playing with the new toys i get (Stonehorn/mournfangs) im not sure how really productive i'll be.

Also, here is attempt 1 at ice basing:

Just the calm water effects so far but i think ill lightly drybrush with white so its still mostly glossy but a bit frosted in addition with the snow. Hopefully it turns out. Still need to paint the majority of it before i blizzard it up.

Sorry for the delays but works been killing me....I'm escaping soon though!

Thanks everyone!

Got more work done on the Butcher/Slaughtermaster/Runeshaman! I'll just show the WIPs and explain after:

So there he is so far. Still mostly true to the sketch, but it was not really heroic or lordly so changes needed to me made. Hence the staff, I'm making him older looking but ogre casters are still beastly in combat so i needed to give him something convincing but still fairly wizened. I'll be hanging various pelts and totems off of it too and he'll still have the cascading runes in his hands.

I'm really happy with the head and his sweet Sam Elliot 'stach so far. I plan to give him a sweeping cloak off his right side too with a fur on the top like a chaos warrior or half the cast of Game of Thrones.

So yea that's it so far. He still has a lot of clean up needed on the GS still but so far I'm pretty damn happy. I also bought the Stonehorn and Mournfangs and i do say i will make something suitably epic...

...But that's a tale for later.

I reckon that the ogre caster should be pointing at someone, sort of under his arm direction. Maybe a fireball comeing out of his hand? I dont know Ogre magic at all. Also an arctic wolf familiar or the like would be pretty cool.If they are Norse based then wolves or serpents are pretty good for the theme.

Your sculpting never fails to amaze me Pete. Those feet are incredible! Your Dr. Wily is missing some hair though.

The axe/scythe thingy looks pretty cool, but I'm not sure about the pose. It wasn't in your scetch, so I'm not sure where you want to put it. Over the shoulder always looks pretty bad-ass, but I'm not convinced it's the right thing to do with the Shaman. Besides the fact that it looks more like a warrior than a magican pose, I don't think it would work with the other hand where you planned to put it.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Maybe the Shaman could be holding the sythe/axe with the hand you have modeled now and casting runes onto the ground with his off hand. You could have the off hand a little off to the side with a post-fling sort of look. Just a thought

Well the original sketch was for sure an old magic user, but now that Butchers/SMs can be given a wider variety of gear i wanted to give him some teeth so to speak. I want his apparent age to almost mismatch with his casual yet threatening pose. I think once i get all the totems and fetishes on the staff it will look better. I want people to see it and say "Cool staff! Oh Hey, it's almost like a scythe!" and not the otherway around, i think paint will help since its bone and not steel like the plastic since to give the impression of. Also without the runes and cloak he for sure looks more "brawlery" rather than wise.

In short I'm trying to make Frosty Wan Kenobi basically.

I thought the staff looked weird too, at first. But that's because I didn't see the runes, so it looked like he was holding the staff in his hand, but not really. So, maybe the staff lacks weight against his body? It could be pressing into the flesh and muscle of his forearm a bit more, eh?

I see what you mean. I'm hoping the furred mantle on his shoulders will help since the staff will be parting it. It may be challenging to do anything about the arm though, but ill investigate.

I just don't like it. I tried the pose out myself with a big pipe I had lying around, but it felt really weird. It's just not something I see someone doing for any reason whatsover. Okay, he needs both hands for his runes, I get that. And he probably doesn't want to put down his staff every time. But the pose is just not working for me, I can't help it!

A bit more layering to be done on the fur and the top edge of the cloak to hide the wire still to do. I also made an edged shield for him since Slaughtermasters can take Ironfists but i don't know where to put it...I'm thinking like it's half under his cloak on his lower back but I'm not sure.

Wow, just found this thread from the link in DCM today and it's amazing...

1. Seeing how much you have to cut up that first ogre to get the pose you wanted
2. Incredible GS on the fur leggings/boots on the first guy, they look so natural!
3. Planning to use (Avatars of War?) dwarfs as gnoblars... awesome!
4. From the pics, only ~5 models going so far? It might be a while before this sees the field if you keep up this incredible standard!

One thing, it looks like there is a mold line on the side of his head. I know he's still WIP, but I thought I'd mention it, just in case.

The scythe itself has a lot of character. I love how he just tied the jaw bone to a regular ogre club.

Damn response-splosion! Thanks guys!

@RiTides - Yea it will take a while but with the low model count and my new job (far less hours) it won't be too long. I would love to maybe have something for Adepticon this spring but that's pie in the sky. I do plan to at least make the pilgrimage even if i cant play.

This is what i have in mind for the core (2K) of my army for those interested and to get a better timeline:
Spoiler:
Slaughtermaster
Level 4
Fencers Blades
Greedy Fist
Glittering Scales (until FAQd)

Hunter
Stonehorn
Great Weapon
Enchanted Shield
Talisman of Protection

9 Ogres
IF, Command

8 Ironguts
Command, LO Gnob, Standard of Disc.

10 Gnobs X2
Trappers

3 Mournfangs
Command, IF, HA, Dragonhide

1 Sabertusk X3

I ran out of GS stuff doing the mantle yesterday but i knew i would and ordered a crap load more that should be here tomorrow (Thanks Warstore!). The stuff i had previously was also almost a decade old too . Hopefully having fresh GS might make it easier to work with. Plan for the immediate future is to finish the Shaman and the 2 remaining ogres in the kit i have, then make some dwarves since the AoW order should be here this week too. I don't want to start my Bear-horn/hunter yet since thats going to suck me in and not let go and i want to get more ogres done before the monsters (as incentive).

Edit: Tracking shows the GS is at my house! Tonight I drink mead, watch Thor on Blu-ray, and sculpt some Frosties!

I will admit, I have just given this thread a cursory glance. From that glance I've determined it is 100% Pure Win.

I had a similar idea for wanting to do a noble northmen army, Marauders but minus the chaos. Your Ogres, if you're calling them that, are phenomenal. I've always wanted to see some fit ogres, the idea of them all being gutsy and overweight really didn't sit right with me. (I know its their culture, but if you ask me its a lame culture)

Hey Peoples!

Couple of various updates today. First thing, it's my last week at the current nightmare hours job and I'll have some much needed time off next week to power through some of this army! So I'm pumped but anywho...

I have two more ogres in progress but they're in the frame state that you guys have seem before so I'll spare you until they look like something. But for the cool stuff:

That's my first experiment with converting Mournfang to a wolf. The size of the MF head is very small compared to the body so it was interesting making something lupine but also fitting in proportion with the rest of its massive body. So far he certainly looks wolf-like i think but large and beefy enough to plausibly carry a frosty. I think it's going well so far, obviously very rough but i thought i would show what i had so people don't get bored!

And a final shot of the Shaman:

Built out the mantle a bit more and added a bracer because i didn't like the wrist transition. A bit more done on the cloak to to a point where i think it looks good and paint will do the rest. He just needs some basing which I'll do after he's primed.

So that's all for now but i expect i'll be able to update with progress at a faster rate with my new schedule! Thanks guys, bring on the comments/critiques!

You're just saying that because you fethed up the pose again and now you have two more Ogres that look like Captain Morgan.

The wolf looks pretty cool so far. At least much better than I could ever do one. Does this mean that you're going to put the Ogres on them like they "sit" on the regular Mournfangs? Or can we expect some conversions in the leg area?

Hahaha you bastard...

I plan to have them riding more like a horse rather than the current chair style. The leg area has always been the main section that i convert on these guys so it's a pretty safe bet.

I was just noticing that your fur is BETTER than the original fur. You (sigh) need to make your fur simpler, with larger 'tufts', to match the plastic.

Anung Un Rama wrote:Oh, he looks so cute with the tounge hanging out of his mouth.

It was kind of intentional i guess, I don't want these guys looking evil so much. I wanted these wolves to have an intelligence to them too, not just snarling feral beasts. (those come later for gorgers if all goes as planned)

Moltar wrote:Petey how many wolves are you going to have to make? Hopefully your whole next two weeks during your schedule transition won't be filled just with wolves.

I'd like to have 4 Mournfangs (which is what the above is) in the stables so to speak and i plan t do a similar look for Sabertusks of which i thought 6 is probably enough for now.

I love the tongue and the big bushy eyebrows. The fur is looking superb. As for the transition to the plastic fur, have you tried starting the fur from the back and sculpting the tufts, moving from the neck to the nose as it were. Then you could go back and blend your style into it, starting toward the front and working back. I don't know if that would work (or makes sense even), but it's how I imagine it should work. Think of the plastic fur more as feathers... maybe?

ANYHOO- great work.

ps: love the avatar, Cottonjaw.

Like I said before I'm still alive i swear! Now to prove it:

The frozen wilderness of Varg:

This was kind of my side project last month, it's an 8'x4' table with 2'x'4' sections that i can swap around to create different battlefeilds. It's been playtested a few times now and my friends and i are enjoying it.

Irongut prototype:

Still plenty yet to do on him but you get the idea. Went for more of a lordly look with them, something you might see out of the Thirteenth Warrior and the like. Had to go with the stereotype helm though...

Trapper Unit:

The AoW models are so nice i didnt want to do too much but i added a few legacy GW bits for variety and some of the 1000's of traps that come in the new ogre kits. I think they fit the theme well.

Thanks for sticking with me! More to come but for now back to work!

Good to have you back, Petey!

The Irongut is looking great so far, but that is to be expected Great use of the existing ogre heads, btw. They look pretty good after you get done with them!

Will you be adding any armor like the GW Ironguts, or just the distinquishing helm?

Table looks nice! I hope all of your opponents' armies are as used to the cold as yours

Keep up the great work!

Well for the Irongut the pic doesn't show it too well but I did add a banded leather type gutplate and when I start to detail the cloak I was planning poplin the edges of some pauldrons out from underneath. Leg armor over the kilt is also in the works.

As for my opponents...they can freeze to death. Generally preferable to the alternative...

Thanks all!

The snow mix is:

2 part baking soda
1 part liquitex natural sand medium
1ish parts elmers white glue

I say 1ish glue because my first batch was too thick and didnt quite smooth out like I wanted so later batches I added more glue. After gooping it all on dump a bunch more baking soda on it and don't touch it for at least 2 days. If you do you'll get finger of god pokes all over it. For bases the color is great but the board looked too beige so I had to spray it white too.

Haha yea it totally fits though. I thought the dragon would be cool too for wings ect. but its stupid big. My friends joked that maybe we would use it for a Mountain Chimera one of these days....

It's certainly not for everyone due to the admittedly obscene price but they're my favorite games hands down. I really wanted to get my eyes on that art book and the new terrain was definitely a factor too. So I found it worth it but others probably less so. What can I say I'm a geek...

Project related, I got more done on the irongut and the new bull which I should have in a better state by weeks end to share.

The latest:

Just a normal Ironfist/HW ogre. I really like how he's shaping up though. Still work to be done pretty much everywhere on him but he's coming along.

And some Gutlord progress:

So once those are complete my first box of ogres are done (4 ogres, Slaughtermaster, and Gutlord) and not its time to paint. It's been long enough and ive digested the bellower paint scheme for awhile and im not sure im happy. I may make some changes. The tartan pattern may be distracting since my ogres dont really have a uniform as it were and the blue skin now kinda bugs me. I may go to a pale blue or white. We'll see...

C&C welcome as always!

Great to have an update from you, Petey!

As always, your GS work is superb!

Scarface is a great start. What are your plans for him to tie into the rest of the army? So far (even though he is awesome) he seems to be a very different style with the small shield and scarf.

Keep up the good work!
