Here is a poor pic of that alternative backpack/shoulder cannon... That should be a golem-like part stone, part tech snake-shaped tail with an energy generator and able to fire some kind of plasma or whatever.
Still need some extra detailing imo but the basic shape is ready.
I actually think it is very inventive mate very unique, I like the way you have managed to give it a serpent look but retain a mechanical feel at the same time.
The only thing I would say is it needs bulking out at the sides of the actual power pack, maybe some kind of mini serpents done as cables could work
thx LDD, actually I wanted to make an opposite to the totem backpack in every way - light, non SM etc. So people may use this character free of any 40k reference. The totem already is bulky as hell so why do so with this?
Oh, cool sculpts, mate! The IG heads look really great. They're the best candidates I've found to far to use as Space marine scouts head alternatives (I have no love for those standard mongol schwarzenegger heads).
Unless you've got some more cool helmeted/masked sci-fi heads in the pipeline?
@ Meph
Sorry for not being clear I meant that we have several heads sculpted but not yet released for various reasons. Mostly because we want them to be parts of some larger sets like with synapse bits.
storag wrote: thx LDD, actually I wanted to make an opposite to the totem backpack in every way - light, non SM etc. So people may use this character free of any 40k reference. The totem already is bulky as hell so why do so with this?
I see your point just thought snake style cables would have worked well with the design,but it's good to offer an alternative design to what's all readily available.
Yes I would also love to see those heads in the store some time soon LOL
Leo looks awesome mate you seemed to capture the action poses well, although these are not my thing you have done a great job with them.
Will be placing an order next week for some of those heads, should have the funds available then
@ Moltar
Thx pal, for more "mutants" come back tomorrow
NOW guys... that's official: I'm glad (oh damn I AM) to announce that "Space Aztec" was, at looooooong last, released! (Hooray!)
Here is a collage (clickable) and a link to the store. More pics there.
Speak your mind and tell what you think about this final version! Some of you been here with me through all the process (almost two years actually... as ridiculous as it sounds) and for that I thank you.
As I said on the the other related thread looks amazing it has a great theme running through it, I love the way you have managed to aztec all the armour without making it look overbearing or silly.
It has been a pleasure to follow this for the 2 years hopefully some of the other projects will see the light of day soon
checking in to assure that my recent absence have no connection to the vast awesomeness this thread presents!
mate... I love mikey´s pose..."come and get some..."...classy!
leo looks awesome too...hopefully you soon show us a bladed version what I would love to see is all turtles in a shot one of these days in a charlies angle kind of pose...would make a great poster scene...
speaking of... the Aztec marine is absolutely breathtaking...and the presentation pic IS poster quality... this model would look amazing even in a rather monochrome scheme...
even tho I am on vacation I will still be present as I will be on dakka purely via my phone then... so i´ll be in touch mate!
Dam Storag these are starting to get tempting brings back my childhood although these are based on the modern version, for this reason I am resisting if they had been based on the original toon versions they would be sitting on my desk now.
However they are looking spot on and the posing is accurate NO NO NO NO NO I CANT !!!!!!!!
well, i can...
i am really looking forward to painting up some Turtles...
the only incarnation i enjoyed of them was in the original black and white comics (i still have my books), but i loved them before any of the silliness came in...
these take me right back to that time...
@ LDD
Thanks Roy! ) I share all the soft feelings about the old cartoon, but critically thinking those new versions are way more advanced in terms of quality design. So my choice in this case is to learn from the best. This modern pseudo low-poly 3D art we see in animation and games is really close to my aesthetic views and I wish to develop my sculpting style so I can capture what I like about it in a miniature.
@ jah
Glad to hear that, hope that means I succeeded in mixing the old-school feel with cool elements from the new show. And welcome to da thread!
@ WP
I finally got myself an oven and some FIMO Puppen baking clay... it's AWESOME! Work on Raph is moving much faster then I could ever do with epoxy putty. Just the head and some garment parts left.
Storag, i think it is the simplicity of the design, and the chunky details, that take me back to those original Eastman drawings...
the biggest difference is that your sculpts are more angular, but i like that...
plus, i try to paint my minis to look like they just stepped out of a comic book, so these are totally my style...
@ jah
Yeah, thats how I feel about painting minis too. Not a fan of hyper realism.
I'd really love to see them painted by you
Automatically Appended Next Post: Ish made a pic to clarify the mutants scale:
As a related note: When scaling those guys, I wanted to underline their teen nature. Just remember, they are barely fifteen! The tallest one is 178 cm tall, so I had to make them considerably smaller than average "28mm" mini, both to honor the scale and to have a room for further grown up and mutated characters, that would eventually end up being giants if I've chosen to make "teens" the size of a Space Marine...
@ Vik
He's too cool to rely on weapons They'll be sheathed on the belt.
Due to the poses all the miniatures have different height, but they are modeled to represent difference between character not only in height but also in body shape. So yes, if they'd all stand tall you'd see the difference.
The new sculpts look great. I can't wait for the last Turtle to be finished and added to the store. I'm planning on buying all 4 at once and painting them up for my brother. A scenic base for them would be perfect. The Aztec Marine looks like he's carved out of stone. Perfect in my opinion.
@ Vik
Sadly my planning ain't that flawless =\ But I'm learning... Looking at how good Raph is coming out I already want to remake Donny... but some other time.
@ ephrael
Thank you and welcome! We already working on a fitting themed base for them and I'm exploring possibilities for a scenic display.
@ LDD
Sculptors much more experienced than me state that static poses are challenging, so I took a risk here, but I believe I'm doing fine and it helps to bring out his character in many ways.
The "rat" ain't going to happen any time soon I'm afraid =\
Personally I think that this is my best job so far on the side of posing and character design. Raph always been my least favourite turtle, but working on this sculpt I tried to make it the way I could like him, just as with Aztec. As the result there is less of Nick's show and more of me in it, and I hope I succeeded, 'cuz I really do like this version I made. He's strong, menacing and cool but you can feel (I hope ) that he can burst with anger any second...
That is AWESOME!!!!!!! you have achieved your vision perfectly, reminds me of those old Japanese movies where the hero stands staring into the beyond just before kicking ass.
The pose is strong and powerful and the movement created by his head band ends is brilliant
@ LDD
Thanks mate, I'm very glad that you've got that old J-film feel, because the original TMNT comic was following Frank Miller's "Ronin" comics visuals closely and capturing that in a mini means I did everything right. Take look:
@ Dr H
Thanks! I don't know how anyone can still like the idea of 4 clones, but some do =\. Not me though So' mine are every way different, I hope this well be obvious when I put them all together on a scenic display...
Totally mate the stance brought it straight to mind, so now you can tick the box as well and individuality is a necessity with minis so well done again
@ WP
I'd love too, they need some adversaries after all
Now I want to share a little life story guys.
Yesterday was a strange day. I got an invitation from ArtStation - a new social platform for artists, much like Deviantart. So I set up my profile with some works and moved on. After a while I got a notification mail about a comment to my art, I went to check and there was a positive comment on my Donny dio, and not from just anybody but from Hector Moran -an author of mamy Soda Pops miniatures as well as some from the Kingdom Death line.
As if it wasn't enough, a bit later I checked my Deviantart profile and there was a message from Patric Masson aka the Small (the guy who makes awesome minis for CMON, Dark Age and many others) saying: "your work is really good already, just continue"...
That was very inspiring and that was first feedback from established professionals I ever got, besides Brother Vinnie, who, with all due respect, ain't much of a critique So now I'm a little happy panda, ready to work harder then ever
Storag you have a talent mate and though it is high praise to be recognised by other professionals we have always held you in high regard,after all if your work sucked I would not spend my hard earned cash on it
holy sh...!
now it seems there is a landslide building up to get your talent recognised...who knows where these comments might lead to...once some big guns have set their eyes on you there might be a new brighter future in golden chains strapped to a golden desk be in it for you ...
ralph looks amazing... he is a leader figure...cause you made him this way! he stands tall like an impregnable tower...a true centre piece...and as modern leaders do he sends his brothers first into the action and then joins them...all this I think tells us his stance...
as for redoing Donnie...I think making multiple models of the characters makes totally sense for me... I am thinking here the classic schleich smurfs... they did so many different versions of the different characters and still collecters regularly get themselves a new one...there is always room for another one^^
congratz again for that well deserved attention!!!

Don't mention smurfs when I was a kid in Germany I had loads of the original smurfs, then we moved back to the UK and the Removals lost some of our boxes which included my smurfs I was not impressed
That sculpt while pretty static conveys so much, the stance, the crossed arms the expression on his face, the wind blowing his bandana. Like he is observing a scene and making a decision as the wind blown bandana ends makes for some movement to the model. Very nice work indeed!
@ LDD
Oh Roy, it's such a shame ... I've lost my whole LEGO collection in a similar manner... I think each of us has it's own share of painfull losses...
But we will survive! And hoard moar and moar cool stuff! You've just gave me an idea for a mini, actually...
@ Vik
Thanks mate, your totally right on this I think
@ shaso
Thanks! Now i'm struggling with the scenic display...
nice little story, storag...
i still get excited every time one of my painting or drawing heroes comments on my minis...
it never gets old, even after many contest wins and published works...
we are all just big kids...
@ Vik
Yeah, I'm already thinking of a sewer themed set I could make for it.... you know, just for the sake of having a little sewer on my table... nothing to do with any of my works...
@ jah-josh
Sharing this kind of excitement is priceless imo, it's something that made me stick to this hobby at the first place, thx for sharing it with me pal!
OK my order turned up today those heads are great really like what you did with those some nice detail crammed into a small space.
Now down to Mr Aztec holy crap dude this is awesome the pictures don't do it justice there is so much going on in this model I don't know where to start
All the cast are crisp and clean as normal and no blemishes or bubbles could be found top job all round.
Great work Storag
Also thanks for the extras nice shoulder pads they would be a great market seller, I like the style and shaping should make for some interesting uses.
Nice set of legs as well and don't think I don't know what you are doing each time I place an order I get part of the jigsaw, this is going to take some time to build a unit this way
@ shaso
Yeah, there was a hex based "Heroscape" system and this one is very much similar in structure, but detailed and diverse thx to the interchangeable top sections. I personally wish to order a base set and make my own themed "covers" and objects for it.
@ LDD
That was fast Glad you like all the stuff! You have quite some of our models to make up for a review or something alike, so if you ever have time we'd appreciate
lone dirty dog wrote: That picture rocks I want the picture with my next order by the way
Haha, deal! But actually IRL the picture is drawn on a quite small and ragged patch of paper
Don't care I will find a small frame to display it in and put it on the wall in my man cave I showed the misses it last night and she thought it looked really cool as well (high praise indeed)
Guard it with your life
Now if you draw the Papa and smurfette versions as well I can have a small gallery on the wall so pencil to paper crack on mate I am serious by the way
Now get producing this as a miniature as I think I have found the perfect Smurf Blue paint
OMG! the radical and belligerent Smurf Army! Tired of the term used on Ultramarines, the angered and riled up msurfs come boiling out of the forest in camo, armed to the teeth and driving their vehicles to war!
Hehe, seems there are still lots of smurf-fans out there And this one's definitely worth sculpting...
On the mutant topic - while waiting for Raph copies we work on the scenic display base for what you can call "collectors edition". Designing it was a real pain: we tried many ideas, many themes, many layouts... some were really cool but way to big and expensive for production, so we'll stick with the classics. Here are some WIP pics of the lower "podium" Ish is working on atm, the base will also feature the back piece with a place for Raph, but I'm not ready to show it yet. Take note, that each figure stands on a special removable mini-base, so people can take them out for a table top round and then put back on a display without and difficulties.
that is amazing... you guys are so forward thinking and nevertheless so classy.... base construction is a wonderful theme... and you tailored it also fit for other uses... I think you should follow that road a bit further and make other smaller display bases... around four to six models worth of space... this could be a new idea for your shop...
since there is still a slice missing (slice...get it?...) I am looking forward to the "rest"...
OK basically it is too dam cool not to own this , so when you have it finished I am in for a slice of the pie hey Vik you like that get it ok it was poor but hey ho
I have a friend who likes the turtles a LOT
I can have to order them with my evil ronin and work on them and present them to him and cover my ears for the Sqweeeeee!!! he will present me with when he gets turtles like this.
Nice work! No easy feat there. you are of course extremely talented, so not surprising, but still, making the bends look right is not easy. And they do look right!
@ RSJake
Thank you Jake, I have Ish to thank for those bends. He did a gear job indeed. We figured that resin is an unforgiving material and any modelling "shortcuts" that would normally work for a personal scratch-built leave various artifacts unallowed for a commercial product. So only the hard way remains...
@WP
It's ok pal =) We - artists should stay motivated We believe people should have a choice weather or not pay for such a display. Some might not need one after all.
MASK wasn't exactly my thing, the series made it to Russia when I was already an adult, making miniatures of GI Joes (who was an embodiment of action-figures) is like making cake replicas - wrong somehow
But He-Man... that idea stuck in my head after I watched 2002's version, which I personaly count among best animated series of all times:
The design is so reach in detail and inventive, all the things that looked rediculous back then suddenly made sence... And it would go well along my sculpting style...
Oh no worries, I will post the wips once I am painting them in my own style based on the old series and comics. My roommate hates the Michael Bay versions, so not going that route. Sticking to the classics here. I also want to get me that other tech-knight-priest once he is done, hoping his armor is a bit more modified so it looks all "dark side"
@ shaso
The last time I saw the model Ish's working it was pretty dark-scary
@ Theo
DnD cartoon? Seriously? Zone Riders had some cool designs at the time, but today they'll look rather generic. Silverhawks... Wings of silver, nerves of steel... They have a strong retro style to them and can look rather awesome as miniatures if properly applied But Galaxy Rangers... No guts - no glory! but that would take alot of effort to make it look right.
@ shaso
The last time I saw the model Ish's working it was pretty dark-scary
Excellent! I am needing scary dark looking dark ronin, maybe with different style scary heads? the initial one looked like he was patched up and kept alive more options means I can make a pair of Dark Ronins to counter balance my Ronins (cue SW Imperial March)
After all, with the Dark Side, there is always 2, a Master and an Apprentice!
I think my dogs would like one of these for Christmas what do you think ? well the missus did say we need to get them something I will get them a tin of doggy treats as well
I realise that I've been silent for too long, but our ninja team turned out more popular than I ever hoped for, so we were busy processing orders and working on some comissions... Speaking of which, here are some pics of one on them.
To clarify, this is one of five female torsos that will be completely compatible with GW's SM/HSM parts. The goal is to make such a torso that, combined with other stock parts, would create as feminine a silhouette as possible. And not fall into any cheesy stuff in the process. It's a WIP of course, but we will soon show all five.
DAMN !!!!! I don't care how many pints you have had that aint coming home with you
Good to have you back although I was hoping to see bad ass smurf
Instead you give me Transgender Marine one thing that is throwing me with the new piece is the the top section as it looks flat like it has not been finished is there still work to be done on it ?
It can't be completely compatible with the GW model. I mean look at that huge honking mold line. Talking about on the marine legs, why would anyone want to make compatible parts for such a substandard company
Your work is top notch as always , but I think they need nicer legs .
@LDD
Hey man! Glad to see you're still here! It's a wip, I'm adding some rivets on top much like the M3 SM torso has. The other 4 are totally different and some I really like =) And nothing is forgotten! Smurfs coming, be sure
@Theo
Oh man, I'd love to make some other legs - it would save me sooo much design pain, but customer's wish is rather solid =\
storag wrote: @LDD

Do you keep the rights to the bodies? You could change them just a little and then make "custom" legs, arms, heads, helmets for them and make a killing on them on your website .
@Theo
Yep, we do keep the rights, so if the whole thing works we might do that.
@LDD
You know, sometimes it happens when you look at a thing and get the feeling you must redo it from scratch or you'll be blaming yourself for the rest of your life That's what's going on with that ork. Seems like I messed up with his anatomy somewhere and now I can't place the head and arms in a natural way =(
@Shas
I'm kicking Ish every time I have a chance, but to no effect so long
I like them all especially now you have worked on the collar section I see where you were going with that now, plus you have covered a few chapter options there
Like I said I am not really a marine fan, however a couple of those torsos could work quite well for inquisitor units
Yes I know what you mean when i have converted models and something does not sit right, I usually tear it to bits and start again but not sure if thats an option for you really
I think the third one "fits" the legs the best. Marines are just curves everywhere and the first two have angular breast armor which doesn't fit MY concept of marines. Also like the last one with the mouth if it was for chaos.
I'm liking what you did around the waist of number 1 in particular and I prefer the boobs on number 4, but that's a personal thing (I'm not a fan of stuck on, decorative, boob armour).
tho I have to say...the femmarine torsos with these standard marine heads still make me fill a bit uneasy... how long till you have a matching arm/legs/ head combo to present?... I fear it will be needed... the torso appears very slim in my opinion...
Thanks for the input, personally I would use those torsos with some Dark Eldar fem bitz but our customer seems happy with this way... [shrug]
Anyway, I have something more interesting to show this time - my latest work - a WoW-like goblin miniature I'm making for my own use with the WoW table top game. But I'll make some casts of cause
He's 20mm tall to the top and should fit fine with stock minis from this game. In terms of pure size at least
Sorry for phone shots =| This pinky FIMO clay is hard to picture correctly.
oh... i was execting ou to show up any moment now too..been a bloody long whiile...
that goblin looks very cool... as a former addicted of wow i see where you´re coming from with that greeny...
if you cast this, then a different head option would make it a great leader/ commissar for so many grot rebellions...... he looks almst like the grot version of creed...
@ el Vik
Yeah, seems like I've been absent longer than I thought
You too thought about Creed? Funny that wasn't my intention, I just had that image of what I want my game character to look like and it figures I want him creedy
Not bad could use the body would it fit grot heads ?
Never played said mention game, well actually I never play any games so have no idea but it looks pretty good plus if you can sell the body it would come in handy.
Good to see you back as well been to long ........ And quite
But I just don't get why you want his head off? Imo hard hat is the best head gear for a propper grot/goblin gentleman - protection with style and utility! =)
is that a combi weapon of a pickaxe and a gun?...now there is some creative thinking.. although i would ´t want to be the one to be charged to fire that gun after it was used as the pikaxe beforehand....ouch....boooom...no chance of a facepalm afterwards possible...
and i only now realize that i was looking at a armless goblin on the first pics... i thought he had his arms behind his back....
but he looks very cool...and now with the arms he is defnitly a wow goblin...the gloves really help to sell the theme!
@ Vik
LoL So much for my photography skills He's got a signature BOOMPICK! (tm) - part pick-axe, part pump action rifle - you know, me and Ish tend to come up with some strange weaponry =)
Honestly? I LOVE WoW Gobbos, so I'd love to see more of this! I'm also a Worgen and Tauren fan, so...yeah. And there aren't many good werewolf or minotaur models...
Lately I've been trying a bit of terrain stuff for my friends at Tiny Furniture, including some 3d modelling. So here are some pics of those works.
I've modeled 3 treasure heaps because trying to make all those coins clean and creasp any other way is pure pain =) 3d prints turned out pretty fine imo:
I also made a stylized statue with two "weapon" options the old way =)
Glad to see your back mate and trying the new arts, any body thinking hobbit display pieces here maybe do one with a dragon eye just peering through the coins
Glad to see your still keeping in with the old arts as well very stylised statues but interesting concepts
Hey have you still got any of the syndicate inspired parts still around ?
The 7-sided coins were inspired by LOTR dwarven coins and there is a dagger that looks alot like Sting, so yeah - an eye would fit but the goal was to make them usable across various settings =)
I believe we still have the old Synapse parts lying somewhere, but I hope to re-do the whole thing from scratch using 3d... This time I'd love to embrace Tau mecha nature. Something like the old Robotech bike-suits
@Dr H
Thank you!
I thought about that alot, but no 3d printing hardware will allow for coin face detail unless I make them even bigger. The round ones here are 2 mm in diameter and that's already a huge artistic compromise =) And even if I did, it'll add a whole lot of polys that would complicate work in more ways then one. Plus coins mostly overlap each other leaving little flat surface visible, so any additional geometry will mostly add "noise" and trouble for any potential painter =/
Hi guys, I'd like to tell about an indiegogo project I'm working on as a designer and 3d (2d also) artist. The actual production and logistics will be handled by my friends from Tiny Furniture
The whole thing is about terrain bits in a well known retro-futuristic style, but with a twist - we wanted to picture how things could look at the eastern-europe part of a world like Fallout. Nothing epic - just bits and pieces that can be usefull at creating thematical gaming terrain or dioramas. All items are modeled in 3d and will be printed at one of the best possible professional grade SLA printers.
So, to the pictures!
It all started with this simple grocery stand:
As a proof of concept we printed all the parts and here are the first casts:
I even went so far as to make some silly fake product ads for it as a promo of sorts:
And here are some more concepts:
If you guys liked them I have a whole lot more coming =) As allways, pls share your thoughts!
This is looking great mate and as the doc mentioned the modular design is creative and useful, the design of the products I really like ,some interesting looking stuff.
Ha bug less love it, that bookcase is amazing hell I would take a 1 to 1 scale version of it nifty, no wait miniatures getting better furniture than us something ain't right here ...... as for the vendor machine clever idea with the alternative side of use.
Mate you are either bloody crazy or a damn genius ........ courts still out on this lol
storag wrote: @Dr H
Thx, I aim so that each item has more than one way to be used...
I like that thinking. I had the same aim with the wooden hut kit I designed. Gives the customer options of how to build their models, which means a personalised result.
@LDD
Half-crazed that's for sure My wife also said that she wants that book case - now I need to figure how to make it happen
@Dr H & CK
Thanks guys! I really appreciate it
My work on this project is mostly done and they are working on an IndieGoGo page atm, making video and stuff like that, so It's comming really soon and when ready I'll put a link here to show all the designs at once .
Right now I'd like to share pictures of my 1:100 dwarf model. It's a cast of the first miniature I made to test the scale. He's 15mm to the top and the owl is 4mm =) I really loved that scale and Ihave an idea of a whole gaming box. It's nice to get back to the roots, to the time when miniatures were smaller and more portable. Please speak you opinions on the matter, I'd love to know!
15mm? Damn that's tiny. When comparing to 28mm, I'd say the beard and the feathers could use some more detailing, but not sure how that holds up in 15mm.
@CK
It's hard to compare really. With half the height it is about 1/4-1/5 the volume of an average 28mm figure. I could have push some strains of hair on the beard but I was worried how it'll look painted, so I went with Disney's Infinity angular approach to making hair. We'll see how well it went when Ish's gonna paint it
@LDD
Surprisingly, It was very comfortable to work wit hfor me O.o The main issue was to prevent clay from breaking apart =)
Well I would have squashed it in the process if it was me lol, impressive work and I see your furniture work KS is being advertised on FB seems to be getting good feedback as well mate as it deserves of course
