Finally read it all, after so many side track looks at links given which led to further sidetracks LOL
Still building my Necrons, had terrible problems with supply, even the boxes of immortals i ordered from Direct failed to show up and GW are sending me replacements via courier!
I was lucky to buy a fairly large amount of Necrons from someone who was selling on ebay, who pulled the auction and split it up for me, which was very nice, finished dismantling and stripping and rebuilding what was painted took a while, I have found my last long bout of illness has slowed me down considerably to wha i used to be like, but, i am sure the getting stuck into using airbrush again will soon claw me back some time.
You whole army shot looks amazing and is keeping me going cant wait to get started on painting, however i like to have everything built and i paint in bulk, just my way after 40 years, its become my way, apart from when i used to do commission work.
Still not yet decided my exact colour scheme like you was when deciding where to put the blue on the scythes But Gold is going to be my main metal colour, your Necrons (or should i say Things 1's Necrons...although you do seem to have claimed them hahha...not unusual i did the same with both my sons when they broke off from the hobby for a while), have provided me with the inspiration, i wanted gold but wasnt really sure how i wanted it until i saw yours.
Do you know when we might see some input from the Things? I enjoy hearing about their participation, brings back good memories for me, i have already been through much of what you are with my own children, my eldest now in his mid-20's is a regular gamer and painter, sadly the other have dropped out of the hobby.
Thanks for the inspiration and congrats for reaching 50 posts on this thread.

Hey Baron, thanks for checking in. Yeah, I've kind of claimed them for now, but that's only temporary. Thing 1 has expressed interest in learning how to use the airbrush & I think when he starts painting his own minis again, "ownership" will pass back into his hands where it belongs. I'm hoping you'll see something soon from him soon. He's picked out a figure to work on, so all we have to do is find the time. Take your time picking a paint scheme... maybe do some experimentation. Once you decide on something you're kind of committed to it, so you might as well be sure you've got something that'll keep you interested and engaged. And thanks for posting by-the-way... I appreciate it!

I have read just about everything you have listed in your sig, i enjoy your writing style, just got the 'nid one to read, my nid army is pretty old now, i was lucky it didnt get stolen with other armies, but thats mainly as my son has it to use with is ever growing more up-to date army, Same with my spacewolves, they where right in front of me, and i have purchased everything to make them up-to date, but illness plagues me, so i am slowed down a lot.
As you say though, i have more or less decided on the colours, its where to put them on the models thats the problem at the moment, so i shall content myself building everything, and i will get them to table top ready as a bulk painting project, then start adding the colours, not having an upto date playable army in either 40k or WFB is annoying, but i hope to playing again by next month, if my immortals ever arrive!! Once i get painting I am a demon LOL. Automatically Appended Next Post: In fact i am just finishing off my Lychguard, then onto the flyers, and when i have the immortals and have built them it priming time.

We have a box of Lychguard to do as well. Hopefully by that time, Thing 1 will be doing his own Necrons!

Deciding which way to build them is tough, warscythe or sield and power weapon, luckily i picked up 10 in a big ebay deal, so i made some with warscythe and some with shield and power weapon, was going to magnetize, but i dont see me using them that much, and i have enough of them now to do a squad of each (2x8).
I still havent bought everything that you can have in the army, havent got any stalkers, and i only have one spyder left out of the 6 i used to have, the others obviously left without my permission (sigh!) i rather like the older ones more tactically useful, but the new ones do look impressive, cant decide yet which i will get, I must get some though, i like how useful they are now compared to the old necron codex.
I am so far behind the times only had the new Necron codex about 2 months LOL.
I actually disliked using the Necrons but loved going up against them, lot of fun to fight against but i didnt like using them, now, i think they are far more interesting and diverse, that i should enjoy them.
I am really looking forward to Reading some of your battle reports, and Thing 1 learning how to use them.
I wonder if he will pick up quickly how best to use the myriad of unit types and rule sets for them, and learn how best to use the synergy they now have?
You need to realise that things need to be done in the right order to best utilise the various abilities of things, something i really like about the army.
I also have another stumbling block, i still havent got through the 6th edition rules, i hardly managed to play 5th edition as i fell ill not long after they came out, and only managed a few games with that edition, so I still think in 4th or evn 3rd edition sometimes LOl.
Reading peoples battle reports though often helps me pick up things, and i love to see other peoples ideas on how to play particular armies, I often have my own ideas, and they have stood me in good stead in the past, we shall see though once i begin playing.
Most of all though it is reading what your youngsters are doing and the enjoyment they get out of our hobby that really keeps me going.
Started reading the'nid P&M of yours, but got side tracked very quickly LOL.

I have a battle report in the offing... Necron v. Necron, 1750 pts. Been sitting on it for weeks as I haven't had the chance to work up the photos correctly, but I'm hoping I can knock it out soon. I find the Necrons very fun to play and much more versatile than I thought they'd be. If course they're a very good dex... which makes them easy to play and easy to win with, so that doesn't hurt. There are some pretty good power combinations with the pretorians and at least one with the lychguard... however my son has his heart set on the lychguard... so that's where we're going. Good lord they are expensive though (points-wise). As far as learning 6th, my best advice is to find someone who has been playing a lot and really knows the edition & is willing to play a few non-competitive games with you. Just play and have them work you through the rules (or make corrections to your interpretations) as you go. It helps... a lot... and you'll have more fun because you won't have your nose buried in the rule book all night.

Well gits if you havent used your doom scythes yet you are going to love them, yesterday I went up against a necron player (and argueably one of the best players at my local gw). It was a 2k game against my salamanders and i'd like to think I was holding my own until his 3 doom scythes came onto the board blew up my vehicles and dropped 1 unit of immortals and 2 units of snipers w/ cryptek in the middle of my army. By the end of turn 5 all that i had left standing was vulkan he'stan. *shakes fist at doom scythes*

Post by: Gitsplitta
I haven't. I didn't realize the Doom Scythes could carry troops. Will have to give those a second look. The problem at the moment is that for some odd reason, our Necron army has a TON of heavies... so if I go the Doom Scythe route I'm not sure how much of an army we can actually put together. One way or the other I think one more scythe is definitely called for... either as a third infantry transport or the fill the heavy slots with Doom Scythes.

Ah i thought they were fast attack being flyers, but yea 5 deathmarks with a cryptek with that flame template atack will destroy anything that is marked for death. also mind shackle scarabs for your lord is a definite headache, vulcan hit himself alot yesterday lol.

I made 10 Deathmarks using body and legs of spare warriors, the only problem i found was the warrior torso being too narrow, to get round this, i filled the shoulder sockets with a ball of greenstuff before adding the arms and sniper gun (forgotten the name) worked perfectly, and with the spare Deathmark heads i had, they looked okay. However to add even more likeness to proper Deathmarks i cut off the cowling from the back of the Deathmark torso and glued it on to the back of the neck of the warrior torso, they look pretty good, anyway got 10 of them and enough parts to make another 15 if i really wanted to, although i doubt it.
When i eventually get the Immortals i ordered from GW direct, over a week ago, i am thinking of making some extra immortals out of the spare Warriors i have, i should have enough to make 20 Gauss Blaster Immortals, (I have so many Warriors built and painted from previous edition and a hell of a lot un-built, and part built, built and built and primed LOL, I think 100 painted Warriors is enough for now, i can utilise the rest for conversions to save myself some money.
As to all the super lets make sure i win ability of the Necrons, I would rather have a fun game, i will be playing against Marines (Salamander Chapter), Chaos Demon Army, and Nids first off, The Demons may had Chaos Marine Allies with a Helldrake which should be fun, but if they dont ...there is two armies with no transports for my Gauss, Not that it matters, i want to use a balanced army and stick with it, modifying it as i play different armies until i have a fun army which can give a good game to everyone i play without ruining their fun, but ofc when i come up against a power gamer whose sole purpose for playing is to table other peoples army, so they can do very little, then i will pull out all the stops, see how thy like it done to them, although i have found people like that try to avoid, experienced players with good armies and target newbies or easy armies etc.
Looking forward to reading the Necron V Necron Battle rep.

Interesting article, and I don't disagree with their assessment of it's power. But we all know that GW never back-tracks on it's rules... so I'm afraid their suggestions will fall on deff ears. I don't have any intention of building an airforce. Two flyers as transports seems fine. Neat, but not overbalancing... and so far, opponents who've bothered to shoot at them (even without skyfire) seem to have no problem bringing them down. However, I fully understand the power of the Necron planes and even within our Adepticon team... we figure if we come up against a Necron air force we're just going to lose. Them's the breaks... The same could be said for other builds in 5th Edition as I recall. It's also clear to me from looking at the codex that the Doom Scythe has no transport capacity. Sorry polari, I think your opponent took advantage of you.

That's what I did too... rather than the neck thing though, I'm in the process of making cloaks and cowls for them. They are turning out Grim Reaper-ish, but with guns.
About the BOLS article... it sounds like a whole lot of sour grapes to me. IG get their fliers in squads... and they are cheaper too. Demons and 'Nids get better cover with the MC's.
If you really think about it, Necron fliers have really crappy Time-On-Target compared to the imperial fliers.

Well, I do have a couple of the new SM flyers and some ork planes as well. Until I get those painted up and get some play-time with them, I don't really have a basis for comparison. I love them as troop transports. Long-range pin-point drops are hard to argue with... but their table-time is limited which is an important balancing factor. You have to be smart about how you use them, as good as they are... because your impact on the tabletop will most likely be limited to 2 or 3 turns. I guess that's why I haven't been in a big hurry to finish the gun for the Doom Scythes... as troop transports they fill a big hole in the army. While they're clearly outstanding as heavy support, we have several other heavy options, at least one of which (anni-barges) is quite viable. I might change my mind if we get the ark painted up & have another transport option... but for now... Night Scythes it is!

Quick update. Painting up a couple of things to complete a 1000 pt Adepticon army. Pretty cookie-cutter. Wraiths and flyers, D-lord. Finished the last wraith (won't bore you with that). Making progress on the flyer (will be the third). Went very smoothly. I altered the paints I used a bit due to colors no longer in production or incredibly variable dye lots (Valejo is terrible at keeping their colors consistent). It's a little redder than the others but close enough that I think it'll look alright. Gold is done. On to the boltgun metal, black & finally the blue.

My edging has gotten a LOT better in the last 6 months.
The gold involves 3 layers of airbrushing, 2 washes and a dry brush. There is a step by step tut somewhere earlier in this blog. Unfortunately I've had to change some of the paints involved, so this one is a bit redder than the other two... But it's got the same feel to it so I'm hoping it'll fit in OK.

Dude wow. I don't know much about Necrons except that I hate them just slightly less than Eldar so I can't use the right terms for the equipment, but that red thingy on the bottom of the center flying whatever it is really pops and looks like a crystal encapsulating raw power. The eyeball lens doohickey right above it is your signature gem effect and it looks great. The subtle weathering effects contrasts with the 'not so clean' clean bitz, the blue is a perfect balance for the rest of the gold and metal colors, and the scary little trooper guys with the green 'bruise Skalk's Land Raider to death' rifles match the overall theme very well.
Does your Warboss have that Scarab of Annoyance or whatever it is? Man I hate those things.
Great job all around!!! Wicked decent.

Thank you Skalk. I appreciate the great feedback. Yes, he has mind shackle scarabs. He's actually got a scarab magnetized to his back so I can remove it and place it on (or near) the base of whatever figure he takes over. It is a nasty little surprise...
I'm working on a matching objective marker as we speak. Will try and get it done tonight as I have to head off (with this army) to Lambeau Field in Green Bay for a tournament tomorrow. Should be a good test.

Yep Alf, that's where all these bases come from, good catch. I already have two of the oval bases that match from secret weapon, however, they have their own system for attaching the base to the flyer and it doesn't work with the Necron scythes... the base attaches much too far forward. So I have to do major modifications in order to make their base work with the Scythes. I need to order a third base and some extra GW pillars and some skulls before I can work on that. Yep, that's the idea. Wraiths + D-lord is a tried-and-true combo. Nothing imaginative about this army at all... but it should be solid and easy to run, which are both plusses in my book. (and thanks!)

Perhaps grab one of these bases, and then grab their Sack O'Skulls, and maybe some skeleton bits from some other company? It would be 15 dollars more expensive than just their corpsefield base, but it would allow you to set the scythe where and how you want and add skulls to taste?

Post by: Gitsplitta
The Sack O'Skulls idea is a good one. Problem is I'd probably need 3 or 4 sacks to make an appropriate skull pile on the base, which is far more money than I want to spend. I may have come up with a creative way to fill the post hole in the big base. Will have to experiment. In any case, I have 5 months to figure out how to do it, so there's no rush.

Don't want to duplicate what I posted elsewhere (at least not completely) because I know a lot of you subscribe to more than one of my threads... but here are some action shots from "Rumble on the Tundra" in Green Bay this weekend. This is our team army... (wyomingfox was my partner). The wraithwing closes in on a large boyz mob... Things go poorly for the orks. My Scythes had a tendency to arrive all at once in turn two. That actually worked out pretty well for us. Clash of the titans... wyfox's Riptide takes on a Wraith Knight. Hope to get some battle reports in later on. Very fun time.

Participated in my final tournament at my primary FLGS yesterday... The Last Square in Madison, WI. They're going to be closing their doors at the end of the month and re-locating to a much smaller facility a few miles to the west. They'll still be hosting tournaments once a month with a limited showroom and stock & keeping an on-line presence. But the overhead got too high on their large store and they just can't compete with the internet discounters. End of an era. 19 years as the center of the Madison tabletop gaming community. Luckily it's not "the end" for them... but it is a clear downsizing and I won't be able to go hang out at the store over my lunch period as is my habit. This was part of a big gaming charity event held all over Madison where donations are taken for Toys-for-Tots. I did enter a model into the painting competition but as it took place somewhere else, I have no idea how I did or even where my model is. Hopefully I'll get it back next week. Saw them out with a very fun tournament. 1750 points, no Escalation. I took my eldest's Necrons and my youngest to help roll dice and move figures around. List was not really competitive... rather it was along the lines of... "what would a 10-year-old like to play". I called it "Better Lucky than Good" (and it proved to be so). Steam Crons: Better Lucky than Good HQ: Imotekh - Royal Court - cryptek - chronomitron - cryptek - tremor stave, harp of dissonance - cryptek - tremor stave HQ: D-lord - scythe, MSS, weave EL: C'Tan Shard - writhing worldscape, entropic strike TP: 8 warriors TP: 5 warriors TP: 5 warriors FA: 6 wraiths - 4x whip coils HV: doom scythe HV: doom scythe HV: doom scythe So... lightening, entropic strike and difficult/dangerous terrain shenanigans with the doom scythes thrown in for good measure. Figured it would be decent against a pretty broad range of targets, including the ever-present wraith knights and riptides. Added my own little monstrous creature as a buffer should I need it. Game 1, we faced... Two winged demon princes... Yet another winged demon prince... A ground based nurgle demon prince (no pic). ...and fateweaver... This actually wasn't an army I was prepared to fight & expected to get tabled by turn three. However, the Steam Crons did an AMAZING job standing back up over and over again. If it wasn't for the fact that I completely FORGOT about the Mind Shackle Scarabs and that my flyers would automatically come on in turn 4... I might very well have won this game. As it was I lost something like 17-8 (lost the primary, tied the secondary)... but I took the 8 points and was happy for it. Game 2 we faced... You guessed it... 3 winged demon princes and Fateweaver (with the dreaded 2+ invul re-rollable). (sorry for the rubbish pic) This game started out fantastically with Imotekh's lightening and the flyers doing all but 1 wound to Fateweaver and taking out one of the demons and severely injuring the other. As time drug on however... the two remaining demons and the practically invulnerable Fateweaver really started to chew on our necrons. We did finally get Fateweaver when his "book"(?) roll failed and managed to secure a very narrow victory (16-14). Thing 2 was in charge of the lightening and tessla destructor rolls and really did me proud. Game 3 we faced... Orks! A refreshing change but yet another army that I hadn't planned on facing. This was a very weird scenario where the primary objective was to do x amount of wounds to a giant pillar of light shooting up from the center of the table. We didn't have an army that had any chance of putting out that kind of firepower so we just tried to hamper our opponent from getting full points on the primary and go for a win on the secondary. Imotekh's lightening gave us first blood... but then the orks unloaded on the pilliar and the wounds just started piling up. He fielded a very shooty ork army, not unlike that which I like to field. Still plenty of bodies though. It was kind of a mess & wouldn't make a good proper battle report, but a very fun game over all. The wraiths took on the nob bikers & eventually lost once a mob of 'Aard Boyz joined in. I did get slay the warlord, linebreaker, first blood and the secondary. My opponent got half points for the primary (which was still a lot). So, narrow loss (15-13). Wonderful event, great opponents in three very closely contested games. The Doom Scythes really didn't do much with their beam weapons as mostly my opponents were flying monstrous creatures & I had no luck grounding anything all day... however the TL tessla destructors are still worth their weight in gold. The whole dangerous terrain thing didn't really work the way I'd hoped. It's just not very scary any more. The lightening was great though. Helpful in the last two games for sure. Top award is split between Imotekh and the D-lord w/ MSS who got several characters/deamons to kill themselves over the course of the day. We ended up tied for 11th/12th out of 26. Not a bad finish for a goofy army using some outdated tactics & models. Thank you Carl and Bev! Been wonderful getting to know you & hanging out at your store! Hopefully still many more enjoyable experiences to come at your new digs!

I've seen really basic objectives like this work really well at Adepticon. Matching the overall theme it doesn't seem to matter that they're all identical. When I saw the bits & knowing that Thing 1's Necron army only has one or two proper objectives... I couldn't pass it up.

Post by: Gitsplitta
I've started a blog over in the P&M showcase section for the three armies that may or may not be on the chopping block... Grey Knights, Eldar and Space Wolves. It won't be a WIP blog but a place that I can post my progress & folks can see what's potentially going to be sold, unless I don't have the heart to do it.
Here's the link: Gitsplitta's random "things I hope to sell but might not have the heart" blog
Comments as I go would be welcome. I suppose the most time/cost effective thing to do would just be to sell them as-is, but I just can't bring myself to do that. Character flaw I guess.
So, swing by, see what I'm up to.

Hi-ho!
Just finished up some Necron themed objectives for my Adepticon team. I found these interesting bits dirt cheap on the interwebs. Thought I'd paint them up for the team. Originally was going to do them all the same, but that's boring... so I mixed them up a bit. I may still go back and add a blue top the the dark green pylon... but I don't want to make them look too similar. Guess I'll chew on it for a bit.

Post by: Ramos Asura
Those look excellent, gits. Really pleased with the difference in color. As far as adding blue to the green one, I think that would work nicely (currently its a little one-colored compared to the other ones) but i think you'd want to weather and shade it down some, so it blends with the darker metal. EDIT:: Oooh, actually, rather than a full on blue cap, what about some cron lettering/symbols in blue? Could add visual interest without completely covering up the work youve done thus far?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I could do that. Give it a darker blue wash to mute it perhaps... Good suggestion, thank you!

Looking good, Gits'.
You could do the lower half blue, then it wouldn't look similar to the other one with a blue top half...

Finally got a bit of work done customizing the objectives for my teammates. First up, a Necron objective for Solar_lion for whom white figures prominently in his paint scheme. Keep in mind these are supposed to look beaten up and forgotten.
Secondly, an objective for Yellowbeard's Eldar army...
One more to go!

These are looking cron-tastic! Although I assumed they were for Thing #1, not your buddies
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
They're still going to my son... I just offered them to the team to use to save everyone some time. Then SL bitched about the fact that they didn't really match everyone's army so I had to fool with them a bit. They'll still go to Thing 1 when Adepticon is over and I trust he'll still like them with the extra work I put in on them. So... win/win as far as I can see. My team gets more thematic & fluffy objectives while my son gets extra special, customized ones.
If course this is all a big distraction as I avoid working on the Necron bikes... which is what I really need to do to complete my army. I have a large pile of bits, some instructions and a lot of trepidation...

The tomb blades look really fiddly to build... but tey shouyld look great with a dash of paint.
I like how you have done 3 of each to give you more tactical flexibility.
@ RiTides, you could do a classic aliens face hugger moment with models from your team-mates armies. Or if they are also Tyranid, maybe do a rippers head poking pout each one with their Hive fleet colours, alongside hive fleet colours on the eggs themselves?? I also know its a bit late now, and I like your counts as Mawlocs, but for height a Cone of styrene as if the earth was bulging up as tey break throughand you could still use the broken ground from the base section where it breaks through... A bit like the video clip when they set off the giant mines in WW1

Finished painting the gold. God-awful photo from my phone, but at least I can document that I've got it done. Next comes the white metal... then the blue, then the details. The nice thing about having them to this point is that they are painted well beyond a 3-color minimum standard, so I can comfortably field them in an actual tournament, even if it has a painting requirement.

Post by: RiTides
Gits, if you're fielding a model you're still painting, does that mean you don't Dullcote it yet at that point? I'm always stuck testing things with unprimed models, and then shelving everything for a few months while I paint it... too worried I'd chip the paint job before sealing it.
Do you have a trick there, or are you just careful with them when using them before they're finished?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I don't usually worry about that, however... a quick shot of Dullcoat won't effect the overall look of the model (at least to the standard I paint to), even if I then paint over it & re-coat. It's more important to coat a metal or resin model before use than plastic, as the plastics are much lighter and less prone to scratching & chipping as a result. Automatically Appended Next Post:
OK, I think this will be my final color scheme for the tomb blades. This one is all finished save for the speckling on the blue and a few glowy bits here and there.
I *could* add a bit more blue... namely the shield things on either side of the driver's seat... but I don't want to overdo it. Thoughts?
39666
Post by: GiraffeX
I think he looks spot on Git's, just the right amount of blue to break up the gold.
22619
Post by: inmygravenimage
Agreed, the legs are sufficently burnished to add variation. Very nice.
30344
Post by: monkeytroll
Yeah, think that doing the shield things (Gits is right, that's what they're called ) would add too much blue to it.
Although...they don't all have to be the same do they? Do I recall the Scythes having slightly different schemes? Or is that just me?
Tell you what, I'll go back and have a look
Edit: No...just me then Hue differences, but no scheme differences...but then, you already knew that. Just ignore me, I'll sit in the corner here and keep the muttering down real low.

Post by: wyomingfox
Yeah, I think it could use something to break up the mass of gold in the center.
43588
Post by: Anpu-adom
I would go blue on those shield/ferring bits on each side of the driver. Like WF said, you need something to break up the gold. It won't be too much blue, and the blue is simply awesome.
34329
Post by: dantay_xv
I think it will look perfect once you get the glowy bits done and it will help to break up the gold a bit more

I'd not seen these models before you mentioned them. Are they not popular on the table?
Looking good.
As for the blue bits; try sitting them next to other members of the army and see if they look noticeably more gold / less blue than the others.
I would say go half way between the two and do some blue stripes on the shield bits, but I don't think Necrons go in for racing stripes so probably not...
63129
Post by: Littletower
Since you asked, I'd go with trying some added blue around the middle section too, to further break up the gold, as WF and Anpu-adom suggested.
Looking good, btw, and they'll certainly end up great either way.

The Necron Fast Attack slot is a very competative slot... with Wraiths and scarabs being the most popular and everyone having destroyers a-plenty from the earlier codex. Tomb Scythes are very flexible and fast... but are generally outshined by the other choices in the codex.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Thanks everyone for your ideas and opinions. I asked the most important person (Thing 1... since these are for HIS army) and he liked adding the blue plates. Here's how it came out.
I think it works quite well. Once the speckles are on I can call these done... though I'm really tempted to add a couple of small details, though one of them would be a real PITA to paint, so I may take a pass on that one.
I don't think the FA slot is as competitive as it used to be. No question wraiths are at the top, but we already have a full squad of six and I don't foresee getting another. We have a number of destroyers, but frankly they aren't very good now... so they're out of the running. Scarabs are still good, but probably at their best when you build an army around them. We don't have enough bases to do that yet. So, that leaves two FA slots wide-open for the Tomb Blades. They're dirt cheap jet bikes. Yes, you can add a bunch of crap to them if you have the points, but they serve their purpose with just the bike and a gun. Also, given the scenario... they could be scoring (if FA is scoring in the mission).

How do you do the speckles?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Sponge. Heavier w/ tin bits, then lighter with God-only-knows-what-they-are-calling-the-color-now. If I want a delicate touch, I sponge on the tin bits then use a brush to apply the brighter paint in specific places.
8723
Post by: wyomingfox
Cool Gits. What type of sponge do you use? Do you have to regularily clean the sponge as you are applying the paint or use clean areas? I'm just wondering if the paint would cake on the sponge and the the sponge would become more blotchy?
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
I have sea sponges for large areas...like the irregularity of them. Normal dish sponges work, as does the kind of foam you get from pluck-foam trays. I usually tear out bits with a tweezers to make them less regular. I rinse them several times in water (just like you would a cleaning sponge) so they can be re-used at a later date.

And when is Adepticon? Early April? Seems you managed to finish with about a month or so to spare, so congratulations on getting done early and avoiding all the frantic panic and burnout on the laed-up to Adepticon

Well, Thing 1 and I had a father/son gaming day yesterday. All day event. 1750 point tourney where we played an ork/necron airforce list, lunch at a great local diner, more gaming (last two rounds) and then dinner with the local gamers at a restaurant across the street. The local scene here is extremely competitive. I think nearly half the field was Eldar, Tau or some combination of the two. Necrons and Chaos made up most of the rest. We went 1:1:1. Beat eldar, lost to chaos, tied eldar (though we would have won if I'd listened to Thing 1 on our last turn). Had a really great day gaming and hanging out together.
The boy is now inspired to work on his own figures again & is feverishly cutting and cleaning an entire Ark worth of bits. I promised to help him build it & paint it. But it is really nice to see him have some interest in his army again. It's been a long time.
No pics of the battles unfortunately, we just went to have fun.
