Haven't gotten back into those yet but yeah got the jumping acc now, wondering wether eventually you can equip more than one acc though (probably will considering trying to equip another states something along those lines)

At first didn't even realise you could use your summons during and just tried jumping everywhere with the "I weigh 50 bags of potatoes" propulsion you have by default

Anyway, Also found a dojo somewhere in a classical town (also has chickens you can hit for a chicken storm but sadly cannot learn them -_-), did the find the chicken quest too.

In the dojo you get incremental cool minigame arenas, none of which are really hard but still a lot of fun to try to perfect.

You absolutely can. Location in spoiler tag if you like:

I think Civilization is for me what XCom/Xenonaughts is for flamingkilamajig. I always have a game on the go. Started up a new one as Korea.

On that subject i'm becoming rather bored with xenonauts 2 now that i think i've reached the end of the milestone the developers are on. Nearly 300 days in game and at the moment nothing is much of a threat to me. I have a crap ton of soldiers. I have most of the tech if not nearly all of it. My weakest link is i might not have enough tier 3 fighter aircraft. I've been able to interrogate both an alien officer and a leader.

The alien base i'm about to attack is the only thing i might struggle with and the 3rd tier dropship i have which cost a bundle of resources allows me to transport 16 soldiers (as absurd as that sounds). They are decked out with all the top tier gear i can get. If somehow i suffer severe losses i will be shocked. I imagine this was originally the dropship made to fight battleship crash sites but the issue is when you're telling 12-16 soldiers what to do the game bogs down. I've been having that issue with 12 soldiers and i can only imagine what 16 is like.

I honestly think the biggest problem with the game right now for me is money issues rather than resources since i've nearly got all the resources i need only nearly running low after i built almost everything i have. All i have to do is a couple Cruiser crash sites and bam i'm drowning in resources again.

------

I wonder if i'll ever play xcom 2 again but maybe a Long War of the Chosen game of it. I maybe won that game twice on 2nd hardest on ironman. The mod is just absurdly harder than the base game which i could do hardest on ironman runs very reliably at my peak.

------

Wonder if i should do Hoi4 again but maybe i should try a nation that isn't the UK. The issue is USA is too OP, France kinda sucks hard and loses unless you ww2 early and UK is fairly tough on many fronts. I could play the baddie factions of soviets or fascists but that seems a bit distasteful and these days you can't play as the bad guys without people seeing you as them because people don't understand you can play pretend and not really be something. I may do another japan or italy run. The funny bit is japan was probably worse than germany on war crimes but it happened in asia so nobody cares in the West and so won't mind me playing them.

Addicted to Gladius: Relics of War. Playing as Eldar with a Dark Eldar ally against two Necron enemies which I felt was fitting. Just wiped out the Necrons so might do the "campaign" now. There's also a crap ton of wildlife around to kill.

I love the variety of wildlife in Gladius and how it and random map generation provide variety in how games go even if the player/NPC factions stay the same.

It's a missed opportunity that Tyranids can't dominate Hybrids the way Tau can with Kroot Hounds and Vespids, though. Maybe they save it for a Genestealer Cult DLC, if they ever make one.

Beat ice dungeon in Zelda, boss was annoying but not as annoying as the desert boss who I had to beat again in a challenge for the samurai blade and had forgotten how I did it before and so struggled a fair amount this time. -_- (first time I beat it as a boss I didn't even get hit but could hardly hit the damn thing this time during the challenge ..weird)

Anyway the ice dungeon boss..
Spoiler:
bats worked great, just summon a bat, take control over bat, jump' so bat starts higher, release.. and it homed right in on its helmet, switch between fire and ice bats when needed

Will do jungle next, mountain last because I don't like being set ablaze -_-

I just finished the mountain with plans to do the forest next myself. Tip for the mountain; you can grab bats after you summon them to make them work like chickens for gliding. This weirdly doesn't work for all flying summons and I ended up with some dumb workarounds because I thought you were supposed to do the Follow thing and let them float you over eventually.

Spoiler:
Been noticing some (welcome) jumps in difficulty in the 2nd triad of dungeons so far, I do tend to do puzzles my own weird way and find out later that the meant way is a lot less difficult lmao, im halfway into jungle rift now, the pre-mission (stealth) was pretty gnarly but I just psykered my way through (well, and hopping around in a vase), took me a bit to figure out how to turn off all the torches (6 of them) but doing a 360 while holding a windcannon worked.

@Adrassil @Geifer

So i do find myself once in a while playing gladius but it's not a thing i'm massively into. The A.I. doesn't seem to know how to play eldar and possibly dark eldar due to the webway gates aspect. I do enjoy dark eldar and their influence heavy economy means they can really attack in many places but it's also iffy. Dark Eldar are amazingly fragile without their vehicles and you kinda need to pump out vehicles and infantry at the same time. Of course you can also reinforce areas near allies almost instantly with webway gates as well as keep up an attack fairly easily. I imagine they're much nastier in multiplayer than in singleplayer but in multi they're really gonna destroy every webway gate they see if they don't play some form of eldar or dark eldar.

I've only really played multiplayer with friends and not really against anybody that good at the game. It'd be interesting to see a game with more matched sides.

If i recall orks, necrons, tau and a few others are pretty strong (maybe tyranids). Guard start off amazingly weak but can get strong late game/late tech (long range but mostly slow aside from tank commanders boosting tank speed and aircraft). Chaos is somewhere in the middle. Necrons just don't like to die and are strong. Tau drones, sub-systems, battle suits and hammerheads make them strong. I find sisters of battle to be weak or at least the game plays them terribly. Dark eldar have some interesting things but they have more tech which grants them interesting abilities to keep them going. I've never really played eldar but they have some strong wraith units and other things. Orks are stupidly aggressive and as long as they win fights they can do well (dark eldar is somewhat like orks in that respect). Nids are above average or strong. Space marines are middling but have a crazy ability to attack aggressively and only have one city but once there they can't re-direct back home too easily. I'm not sure what other factions i may have missed talking about.

I can't say about higher difficulty levels, but the standard AI in Gladius doesn't use alternate means of movement with the exception of jump packs. No webway gates. No transports. Not even Deathmark teleportation, which is only different from a jump pack in that it has unlimited range. I guess that's the relevant difference. The AI is based around keeping most of its army together, and if stragglers are engaged, the army tends to move to reinforce such a fight with little to no regard for other considerations. If it's a limitation of the AI rather than one based on difficulty, I could see sending small detachments around the map on tactical maneuvers to interfere with the fundamental directives that decide unit actions.

Not all factions are equal. I'd agree with that. The game is fairly cleverly set up to mitigate limited rosters and unit capabilities that tend to hold back AI Sisters, Tyranids and Dark Eldar. It appears that at the start of the game an AI faction is randomly assigned a focus along which it develops. While AI armies always mix units and you are likely to encounter all available units if the game lasts long enough, you can see that they are weighted in favor of some units. In the game I played yesterday, early on the Orks were heavily focused on Boys with minimal support from Burna Boys and Kans. They got pretty far against the wildlife, but once they ran into my Tactical Marines and Thunderfire Cannons they were out of luck. In the previous game I played with Orks as an opponent, they had a wider mix dominated by Kans and Buggies. That was a very tough match up for my Necrons.

Then there's resource and wildlife randomization, as well as difficult terrain and bottlenecks. During the early expansion phase a wrong turn is all it takes for an army to run into tough opponents like Kastellans or Umbra, and then instead of leveling units and taking outposts to improve the economy, the AI is set back by attrition. This influences success and failure far more than basic faction options. Once a faction has leveled higher tier units, it doesn't matter much if it's Guard or Chaos or Sisters. A lot of an AI faction's success is based on economy and momentum.

Which I find to be a decent way of making the game interesting in the long run. You can't rule out any one faction's ability to put up a good fight any more than you can assume that Guard, Orks and Necrons will be totally overwhelming every single time. It's nice to have that kind of variation.

I don't think there's a postgame?
I beat jungle boss, really easy one.

Going mountain now, when I finish the game I'll sell it back to the store for about 50% returns and order something warhammer for the moneys.
Will have my hands full on shin megami tensei V vengeance anyway I had put on pause while playing this zelda.

edit: finished the game, here's my spoilerbox;
Spoiler:
final boss was a bit chaotic but I just spammed ice-octopi everywhere (7 of them at all times lol) so it wasn't hard, dunno if there's different endings, mine was a bit short but ok, credits were nice.. would've been nicer if it had been a sequence rather than just pics, like how a link to the past ended. All in all the music was recognicable now that I had played the game through. Mountain dragon boss was a pushover btw. Saw some new bigger monsters in the final dungeon that I had not seen anywhere else, perhaps those were postgame area stuff but not really interested in that, going to sell the game. For kids its a must play, its very cute', for zelda fans I'd say only play it if you like this type of game, otherwise it may be a bit too expensive for the type of game it is with little to no replay value, or wait till it gets a bit cheaper.

Oh I was meaning general spoilers.

I stopped short of the final quest, and whipped round maxing out my Sword, Bombs and Bow etc.

Also wound up with all four Fairy Bottles, and finishing the Stamp Rally.

Tried my hand at the Flag Race, and got hacked off.

Back at playing Shin Megami Tensei 5 Vengeance 1st playthrough (not using guides) getting lost in 2nd map a bit, my main char is lvl 34 now and getting a bit bottlenecked in the whole max-demons limitation with barely an oppertunity to fuse that what I have so no ways to slim it down -_- (then again, walking around with two perma elementals kindof does that I guess, not willing to fuse them with anything for all the stat buffs they got (and cost).

I've found myself going back and playing old games I really enjoy. Currently replaying through a couple games:

Ps2 Gladius, Radiata Story
Ps1 Jade Cocoon, Legend of Legaia, Vandal Hearts
GBC Pokemon Blue

has anyone else been going back to older games they loved?

All i ever find myself playing these days are indie developer games and older games. That said i'm getting thoroughly bored with my current games so i may buy something new or try something else that's old.

I was playing command and conquer generals with the GLA campaign. This game....didn't age well like at all. Shocking how cnc3 looks so much better than this with infantry at the very least.

I was also thinking of playing wh40k: dawn of war 1 series. God what a classic series. Oddly i never tried the mods because i was a purist against mods until Long War for xcom 2.

-------

I'm curious if i should take the plunge and play Sins of a Solar Empire 2. I never played this series before but i heard the newest one is very good. That's honestly a first to hear anything new having good reviews these days.

Sins is a popular game but I have yet to find myself grabbed by it. I've come back to it several times but I end up just getting.... meh. With every playthrough I do lol.

Speaking of games that didn't age well at all, I tried checking out N64 golden Eye and was blown away...... like I spent an entire summer and school year playing that game and now... yeesh lol.

I still like giving Sins 2 a shot. Shame my computer is balls and i otherwise can't play any games like space marine 2 or helldivers 2 or even baldur's gate 3 (that said i'm not big into rpg's anymore).

I never really got to own golden eye. I'm not really a graphics nerd but for old games i never played certain things oddly don't look so good in full 3d when it's early 3d vs more 2d aesthetics if that makes sense. I suppose what i mean is red alert 2 is still fun but c&c generals is kinda ugly in 3d. Another game i oddly never played is the old x-com with the time units. I enjoy xenonauts 1 and 2 but xenonauts 1 is probably the lowest graphics settings i'll try. The original X-com has such hilariously weird movement with its characters it reminds me of those marionette dolls they used for team america: world police. It's hard to take seriously for a game where your soldiers are dispensable meat bags with names.

It also doesn't help generals is kinda politically incorrect these days. I find it funny because i'm not uptight but it's something that might be hard to stream because there's only 2 options for that (twitch and youtube) and both are uptight and downright aggressive against streamers and content creators.

Considering I've got all my physical oldtime consoles on a laptop as emulators I did that for a fair while.
I no longer own a television so cannot play those consoles themselves see..

Some of my favorite replayed games were Jade cocoon 2, although somehow the savefile corrupted due to using a wonky savestate -_- (laziness)
FF8 (my fave of the series) and 7, but also played some timesplitters (best shootemup ever created) series and some weird games I used to play with my younger brother like cel damage (arenaesque racing game with subquests during and loads of awesome weps, all cell shades) and freaky flyers (similar, with planes). But ofcourse also Yugioh (ps1 and 2 games, war of the roses for instance), and monster rancher

But that was about a year ago when I last went at it, today I have a switch lite with a few games, not really into next gen anymore though but handhelds are fine to me.

Downloading Mechwarrior 5: Clans. Once I get back from work, I'm diving in.

Looks to be a single player campaign where you are a participating in the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere. Its got mixed reviews on Steam, but I'm gonna give it a shot after work. I tend to get my money's worth out of Mechwarrior/Battletech PC games.

I find it very hard to go back to 1 after playing 2, I did play and finish 1 but never played it again on rom, just not interested, I mean.. sure the customizable-monster thing is nice but 2 just feels so much more comfortable to me with the jump in-jump out gameplay.

Also, first time I played 2 I was like 18 or 19 and kindof fell in love with Cure (no shame!, so I can understand todays youth having crushes on virtual characters, it goes with the age)

As for monster rancher, I used to own a matrix OST cd and getting that special monster (poison, a special pixie)made me feel special.
I didn't really care for games like pokemon although I had trading cards, monster rancher was a lot more inviting to me.. all the memberberries there, never even watched the anime ever, but woah.. things like suezos, mochis and jellys are so reconicable.
Never managed to get the moths, I think the best thing I ever got in that game was a dragon. Never understood how to unlock special cups, back then there were no online guides. I did once use a cheat-cd that maxxed your monsters stats but that was late in, played it for like a year and a half totally legit.

Oh how can I forget now that we're on this subject..
Another series I have always loved (and detest how its discontinued to localize);
YOKAI WATCH.

Funfact there.. the rarest game in the entire world for the 3ds is Yokai watch 3, and I own it. xD
edit: I also have boxes full of all my physical games, cannot sell them because its like photographs to me, and some of them are impossible to ever find again once you lose em.

I played dawn of war dark crusade until the sound bugged out for some reason and then the game stalled after i won a slightly hard battle due to massive map size vs eldar. My compute basically stopped running which pissed me off considering i was starting to carve out a very nice little empire on kronus for imperial guard.

Funny how imperial guard is like the only faction i ever really played in DoW 1 and i was halfway decent during its winter assault in its downward spiral after dark crusade was made. Shame at the time tau and necrons just felt so powerful for me to really enjoy dark crusade. I wonder how i'd feel about it now.

Reinstalled Darkest Dungeon this arvo. Holy crap I'd actually forgotten how much this game doesn't pull its punches.
"What's that? You want 60 stress on Dismas and a negative quirk for both him and Reynauld before you've even reached the hamlet for the first time? Sure thing, now go and get fethed!"

Never have I had such a love/hate relationship with any other video game. I've never walked away from any other game in such anger, frustration and general despair and then gone running back to it with furious determination as often as I have with DD. It was worth every cent of the... $20(?) I paid for it on Kickstarter.

been playing through the megaman x collection on and off the last few weeks
i played the first 3 a lot way back when on the snes, but never got around to the later games
didn't realize back then that the games have an actual continuing story
currently playing on x7, which is proving to be my least favorite of the series so far (honestly, i've found myself liking them less and less from about x4 onward, initially from level design, but then later from the poorly explained upgrades you can maybe get from rescuing bots during missions)

The X games remain one of my absolute favorite series of games, but they definitely fall off hard. I'm not sure any game in the series is as good as the original MMX. That is just a nearly perfect game and easily one of the best on the SNES. I still love X2-3 and X4 is generally highly regarded. I don't enjoy it as much as the SNES games, but its undoubtably the best of the 32-bit games.

X6 is just a disaster made quickly by Capcom without the Megaman team's involvement. It's just kind of a disaster of broken level design and shoddy mechanics. X7 is one of the worst games of all time, being a late 90's attempt at transitioning to 3D somehow done in the early 2000s. X8 is generally well liked, but I think it's mostly just a result of being a mostly competent game after two disasters. Of note, someone just released a demake of X8 that completely reworks it in the 16-bit style of X1-3 that's apparently quite exceptional. I've been meaning to check it out.

Story wise, the series was supposed to end after X5 and it really shows. X5's finale is pretty great, though getting there is messy with the time limits and upgrade parts and odd upgrade issues along with some pace killing attempts at excessive tutorials that were common of its time. The story after that technically continues in the MMZero games on the GBA, which are definitely a better continuation, particularly starting with MMZ2. X tends to get sidelined as Inafune really preferred Zero, but that's true of everything starting wtih MMX4.

Also, you should check out Day fo Sigma. It's an anime prologue to the series that was released with the X1 remake on the PSP. They did a really great job bringing the world to life with it.

Loved both games and X-com definitely has that replay-ability itch. I've gone back to it numerous times. If you haven't already, you might enjoy Phoenix Point. It's on STEAM, very similar style game and VERY fun if you give it a chance.

currently playing on x7, which is proving to be my least favorite of the series so far (honestly, i've found myself liking them less and less from about x4 onward, initially from level design, but then later from the poorly explained upgrades you can maybe get from rescuing bots during missions)

They did a really great job bringing the world to life with it.

i feel like i saw day of sigma way back when, but who knows
funny enough i did play some of the mmzero games back in the day, and they were pretty solid from what i recall
got looking up story stuff and apparently the timeline after mmzero is suppose to kinda end at megaman legends, which i have fond memories of, but would never have really though was part of the overarching storyline
haven't been able to get the interest to play any more of x7 since my last post. honestly i think i'm going to skip going any further with it and see how x8 is

Yeah, the Legends thing is hard to pin down simply because Legends didn't really get to play all its cards and ended on that cliffhanger of a second game. In the game, the great disaster that destroyed the world feels very standalone, but it being tied to X5's colony drop is either a really solid retcon or very much intentional given those games were developed together.

The main frustration of it all to me is they never actually do anything with Wily in all the story they set up for him. It's just left as endless allusions without a real confirmation. ZXA ending with a fight with Dr. Albert, creator of Model W but not Wily we swear being the end of that build up is such a letdown.

Sadly, with Inafune gone (for sadly good reasons) it seems unlikely we'll get any real content. Mega Man seems confined to the DLC costume mines now along with his Darkstalker pals :(

I enjoyed Phoenix Point but man if you want to get good it has an encyclopedia of stats. I got alright at Phoenix Point but the end game eventually got boring. I never actually finished a whole run of the game sadly. I tried doing the boy scout "Phoenix" path route for ending but ending-wise it seems like it's the least fulfilling.
Spoiler:
It implies to destroy the virus all life on earth has to die so that when it comes back hopefully life can start anew without the virus or something similar to that. A fairly sad ending but i never went the whole route.

Btw if you can find yourself a good mod that cuts out the excess side missions i'd suggest you play Gears Tactics. The first two Acts are pretty good but the 3rd one just drags on with way too many of the same side mission types. It's sad because without the extreme padding in Act 3 it'd be a short game but a really great game. I haven't seen any updates on it despite the game being so close to a successful good game. It could've been so much more.

I keep not playing Mutant Year Zero regardless of how interesting it seems and how much i think i could dig the setting and gameplay. I've heard it's pretty good but i think some reviews were annoyed by the gameplay. Something about all the stealth kills being tedious eventually. I'd like to give it a shot anyway though.

--------

Not sure how some of you are so good at Hearts of Iron 4 but maybe it's because i mostly played the democracy side as either the UK or France and i never intervened during the czech disagreement with germany as france (which is a mistake to not do i think) and the UK has to fight in lands with bad development like africa mostly which is alright but hard. The UK is definitely an interesting fight where you have to fight wars on most fronts while maintaining resources and fighting World War 2 almost solo. It seems like a really frustratingly hard experience where naval and air superiority are huge as well as RADAR.

Then you have Japan when you play as the baddies which isn't too bad but is in resource negative situations making it hard to make planes without taking some good land from european colonies.

Looks to be a single player campaign where you are a participating in the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere. Its got mixed reviews on Steam, but I'm gonna give it a shot after work. I tend to get my money's worth out of Mechwarrior/Battletech PC games.

It plays much more arcadey than the base Mercenaries game I think, but dear god the character facial designs and animation are horrifying.

The progress mechanic is too busy as well, with 6 different currencies to balance. Credits, character xp, mech xp, and three different salvage gubbinz.

Also, thinking about it, it seems more like Mechwarrior boy band edition, and that’s even with the fact that half the star are female.

On the other hand when it gets colder I still have a gaming rig tucked away in a cabinet that has Yokai watch 4 + + on it, dunno when I'll get to it..
currently having more fun with shin megami tensei 5 vengeance whenever I have some spare time, 3rd area is a blast, also no longer have difficulty with bosses since getting lucky with a white magatama (+3 lvls for the nahobino) just before gaining another lvl so +4 levels makes you pretty sturdy.

Been playing Mount and Blade Warband Last Days of the Third Age mod. It's a LOTR mod for MB. Really great, enjoying myself tremendously. After a couple of experimental plays to get my feet wet again I did a playthrough as Dale with the idea of welding an alliance of elves, men and dwarves in the North. Worked great, picked to be a Man so I could ride a horse and so on, had mostly Men for Cav, Dwarves for Heavy Infantry and Elves for archers. After a tough start ended up steaming south and saving Minas Tirith when it was nearly the last Gondor fief. Major highlight was doing the defense of the Hornburg.

Now playing as Gundabad orcs. If you play as an Orc you are physically smaller than a man and it has an impact on a lot of things, so it's kind of playing on hard mode. But after a very tough start I've managed to fight my way to defeating all my northern rivals and am heading south into Rohan. I have mostly been playing pure Gundabad with some Rhun Cavalry this time, and it's been interesting. A lot of advice to make a bunch of wolf riders, and it worked well for me in the early game, but now that we're sieging all the time I have just massive hordes of orcs and train them up to be top tier and eat all our prisoners. But it's definitely a harder fight than having the three race alliance I had last time.

I'm enjoying myself so much I'll probably do an Isengard playthrough after, and I haven't even explored the various secret side questions and magic items that the mod offers - been playing it fairly straight so far.

Mount and Blade is such an incredible game for me, I could play it forever. There's nothing else like it and there are so many incredible mods. I'm not even that tempted by Bannerlord because Warband hits the spot for me so well.

T'was October, so played some scary stuff. Obligatory 🎃

Silent Hill 2 remake, was a lot of fun.

Still Wakes the Deep, also a lot of fun, but quite short and ha, really needed the subs for some of that Scottish slang that was thrown about.

Also.. Factorio released its expansion, so starting a new game on Sunday on a dedicated server with some other peeps, I do not look forward to the horrors of the spaghet. 😅

Doing my 2nd run (in recent times) of xcom 2 lwotc since my last one didn't go so well.

I'm kind of low on a lot of things but i should be able to liberate a region very soon in late june. I should also have a few options for liberating other regions soon.

More Factorio, slowly getting somewhere.

Also played Mouthwashing, not at all what I expected it to be, but ultimately very good, maybe my personal pick for horror game of the year.

And started a Plague Tale - Requiem after finally getting it to work. Some bits are very annoying and the checkpoints are sometimes too far and in between, making the taking of risks in some areas a very punishing thing. But other than that, pretty good, playing less with Hugo and more with Lucas as your sidekick, does make for a better game.

I got to this game pretty late compared to my friends, but I'm getting through my backlog and I've started GoW Ragnarok. It's been a while since I played the last GoW but it's as punchy and intuitive as I remember the previous game was, so it's been fun swapping between the blades of chaos and the leviathan axe.

3rd run of xcom 2 lwotc is going really well. Power armor is 4 days from completion and basic coilguns are already out. I need to get advanced coilguns however and that should take a while. That said it'll probably only take a month of fakey super fast game-time to get to the chosen's avenger defense and i hope i'm prepared this time since last time that's what ended my run of the game.

Still plugging away at my Gundabad campaign in MB:W Last Days of the Third Age.

We've defeated the Free People and now the civil war between Isengard and Mordor has started.

To be honest, finding it way easier than the war against the Free People. My veteran army of elite Orcs is chewing through the less hardened armies of my enemies, whereas before elite Orcs were just about a one to one match for average Men, Dwarves or Elves but no match for top tier unless they had overwhelming numbers. So I've been buzzsawing through the armies of Sauron, already sacked Dol Guldur and the Khandish faction camp. Only problem is finding enough Men in the service of Sauron to take prisoner to keep my horde fed!

Been doing the newest campaign of xcom 2 lwotc and was mostly doing fine until i lost like 6 of my 8 soldiers on an advent hq mission. I still won but the cost was just absurdly high. That said the rewards were super great and i got them early. I should even be able to get an arc blade (tier 2 sword) which at this point in the game is really powerful.

Sadly i think my xcom 2 long war of the chosen mod campaign is done for. I've been doing major objectives and destroying alien facilities but avatar progress just fills up too quickly now. like in 6 days it fills up two bars of progress and though that's during the end-game. Maybe waiting till February of the next year just takes too long. It's really frustrating because i have to do all this crap making sure my soldiers have all the final tier weapons and armor and fighting avatar progress while fighting off the chosen avenger defenses. The sad part is it throws it at you nearly at the same time so you're kinda screwed one way or the other. In this case nothing really threatens me much anymore but avatar progress is nearly done with no easy way to counter it.

I hope a double post isn't so bad but last update was like 3 weeks ago.

My xcom 2 long war of the chosen 2nd hardest difficulty on ironman game is going insanely well and i'm in the very late game so this campaign seems like it'll end in victory. I have maybe 14 engineers, 17 or so scientists+full labs+labs boost continent bonus and just pretty much full final tier gear. I also have connected to every region and i'm doing the black site finally. All i really need to do now is the main storyline missions and maybe blow up an alien facility or another hq assault and i'll be done. I had to figure out a lot of new things to get my game to where it is and i killed 2 of the 3 chosen in their strongholds (failed vs the warlock) and fought off the warlock avenger defense. It's about february of the next year now and i have like 50+ soldiers in my roster but maybe 20 aren't useable. I also have 4 regions liberated (i can liberate a 5th if i so choose), i destroyed like 2 of the alien facilities (2 more i can strike at my leisure), killed an avatar and a codex and basically i just gotta do the storyline missions now. It's mostly just big missions left.

-------

Has anybody play Sins of a Solar Empire 2 yet? Every time i watch it i want to play it more and more and i don't know why. I've never played the first one and i've been curious about grabbing the 2nd game. The game is like 4 months old now but even my dinosaur computer seems like it can run it. I'm looking to play it with friends once my xcom 2 lwotc run is done if not sooner and maybe buy it during christmas break.

Played through Astro Bot. I believe its the second game I've ever got the platinum on. The Playstation pandering is more than a little trite and eye roll worthy, but the game itself is just a wonderful little platformer that copied a ton of homework from Mario. Tons of inventive little levels with clever mechanics and a charming vibe. Someone finally managed to inject the creativity that makes Nintendo stand out into their clone and it absolutely shines for it.

I'm not sure how you can call it pandering when the whole theme of the game is Playstation's history.

And it really needs to give Nintendo a kick in the teeth and actually put some effort in after the crap of mario wonder.

IDK, I adored Wonder. I'm definitely hankering for a proper follow up to Odessey or Bowser's Fury, but as a purely 2D outing it really recaptured the feel of SMW for me.

As for pandering, honestly the Playstation elements are pretty tacked on. There's one stage per world that's Playstation themed and the cameo bots are pretty randomly inserted among the normal ones. The vast bulk of the game is very much its own thing with its own characters and world that doesn't have much to do with the brand. The most integrated bit is the controller glider.

Like, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed all the cameos and they definitely add to the game. It's just the bits that get very self congratulatory about Playstation as a brand that I found distractingly corporate in a game with so much heart. It's really not what makes the game special at all. I don't HATE it, but I did kind of roll my eyes whenever they tried to get me invested in performing life saving surgery on my PS5.

What are you playing right now? @ 2025/01/06 19:03:08

I feel the exact opposite of wonder. It was the very definition of style over substance. Boring, unmemorable levels, gimmicks over gameplay. After playing more than a few SMW hacks, the sheer lack of creativity or inventiveness from Nintendo was embarrassing.

But again, I don't feel any pandering for Astrobot. The whole game is based around the PlayStation's mascot. Nothing really felt out of place.

I discovered a delightful little game called Islet Online. It's kind of a mash-up of Runescape, Minecraft, and Animal Crossing, with kind of chibi-looking characters. Most of the community for the game is Korean, as the game was made in South Korea, and some of the English translations are kind of janky (I lol'd at some of them). Nothing as bad as "All your base are belong to us" or "Setting us up the bomb", but still a little wacky. The game is currently free-to-play on Steam, with the option of microtransactions. Thankfully their marketing for those is not terribly predatory, unlike some other "free" games. I've been having fun with the game, as it's a pretty chill experience overall.

I actually got to the last two missions of xcom 2 long war of the chosen mod and then....i grew bored and stopped playing. God it got tedious. Turns out the aliens didn't even have to kill us they just had to bore us to death.

Aside from that i was playing a queek headtaker campaign on hard/hard. Funnily enough a coalition of dwarfs, dark elves and myself and some minor factions ganged up on greenskins and mostly wiped them out (down to about 3 territories at their lowest point). However then i attacked dwarfs and have been fighting back and forth while i also allied dark elves and my minor allies are fighting greenskins which have become resurgent in the far east but not by much. Dwarfs should be getting stomped slowly by me even if he has 2 allies and mine aren't really fighting dwarfs and their allies. On the plus side empire and the golden order are too far away to do much. I've also taken a huge swath of land dwarfs once had in my area so now they're mostly unengaged with me.

Path of Exile 2.

It’s pretty good fun. Some boss fights can be deeply frustrating, and I’ve had to call on my Guildmates at certain points.

Its main downside right now is it not really explaining its mechanics. And that matters, because once you’ve got your head round that? Your hitting power goes up massively. For instance, I’ve a three attack filthy combo which can drop non-bosses by the dozen. And I’ve other things which can help against said bosses at times.

There’s still a lot of wonk (melee characters are disadvantaged against certain bosses, and armour just does not work as it’s meant to). But it is in beta, and we’re getting patches.

I’ve also a nasty habit of getting my head kicked in as I enter a new area for the first couple of times. That’s because enemy casters hang back and can do rapid damage. So it takes a couple of sorties to figure out who’s who, and who’s first in line for a good ol’ Mace To The Face. I don’t mind that, but others may find it overly frustrating.

Been playing Skyrim again last few weeks, trying to get the few remaining achievements I didn't have. Playing a modded game this time around using things like Frostfall and Campfire and a few others. I've never used mods before, so this was a bit of a learning curve installing and setting them up. But it was worth it because I've been enjoying the added difficulty Frostfall brings with the cold weather and what not. Although it does get annoying sometimes when you're trying to travel around the northern regions but keeping have to stop every few minutes to light fires and set up camp, just so you don't freeze to death. No clothing I've yet found gives enough of a warmth/exposure rating to allow anything resembling an extend travel time in harsh conditions.

Every time I start a playthrough, I get distracted by other games and by time I think about doing Skyrim again, I just go "Well, I have no idea where I was or what I was doing, so I guess I better just start over". And the cycle continues. I must have cleared out Bleak Falls Barrow over a dozen times by now...

This one's a bit different. Usually they cover the entire Three Kingdoms era, possibly including the Yellow Turban Rebellion, and you play a story that follows one of the specific kingdoms. It looks like this one is hyper-focused on the early period, though. I don't know how long the story will run for, but I suspect it will end when Dong Zhou flees west with the Emperor, and China switches to "every ruler for himself" mode. You're playing as a protagonist who's participating in the important battles, but isn't directly involved with any of the various factions/groups. Unlike other Warriors titles, the protagonist is (at least so far) the only character that you play. You can bring another character along with you in some battles, and then switch between the two characters. But that's the extent of it. I'm not going to rule out opening things up for you after finishing the game. But I'm nowhere near that yet.

Also unusual and interesting -

1.) The game opens by showing that the Yellow Turbans weren't completely unjustified in what they did. There was a lot of government corruption in China at the time, and when you first meet the Yellow Turbans, they're genuinely helping people. And then they become just as corrupt as the officials they opposed.
2.) Dong Zhou's usually portrayed in these games as a completely self-absorbed and corrupt idiot who only matters because of Lu Bu - who of course is the person who ultimately kills him. Dong Zhou historically was involved in the Yellow Turban campaigns, and this is where you first meet him. He's unsurprisingly focused on raw power over virtue, but he's also extremely unhappy with the corruption in the central government. The result is a character that you know you probably can't trust. But at the same time, his comments aren't entirely wrong.
3.) DW9's open world format was a mess. There were elements of it that I liked (it gave you a basic idea of just how *big* China is), but the overall result was unsatisfactory. This game brings back a world map. But battles don't take place on it. Instead, you approach a battle on the map, and then enter that location to do the actual fighting. One the one hand, it's not a cumbersome mess like DW9's world map was. On the other hand, the map feels cramped. China feels small.

Speaking of Lu Bu, he hasn't showed up yet. But I just met Daiochan and her foster father. And you're not going to have Daiochan in a game without also having Lu Bu. So it's only a matter of time.

Playing my first Survival playthrough of Fallout 4 and damn it is a brutal affair.

Super Mutants raided Abernathy Farm killing the named cow and their cat. Pretty upset about it so I'm getting materials together to trap a new cat for them.

Is that the mode where you can only save by sleeping? It was too brutal for me...

That's the one. Upside of it is that because it's actually difficult I don't end up playing for hours at a time because it tires me out.
Having a wonderful time in the wasteland.

I'm playing Path of Exile 2 as well. Only like level 24 but there's only been a few bosses i've had trouble with. The first one i had serious trouble with was the Count (duke?) at the end of act 1 and then maybe that spirit in act 2 which is bound by 3 seals (mostly due to that bs poison gas she releases into the room i had to figure out how to stop).

I've been playing as the Witch which is basically just a necromancer in other games. I might try the bounty hunter next. I was unsure which of the two to play but ultimately chose the witch due to being like a necromancer and seemingly having solid firepower.

I can imagine the ranged classes are easier in these games vs say the melee classes. Only A-rpg i remember playing where it was the opposite is Grim Dawn.

Been playing some Kingdom Come Deliverance 1, mostly puttering around in Skalitz before the raid, maxing herbalism/leg day and whatnot.

Played some Space Marine 2 last night.

Played some Pokemon Yellow Recharged as well.

I had also played some "Dungeon Antigua", but finding myself very little time these days for anything.

Kingdom Come : Deliverance 2.

I think I like this game. But I also think I hate it.

I might just need to get good, I suppose. I feel like every duel/close combat is a toss up. Stealth is satisfying, if a little basic. Cleared out a roadside bandit camp sneakily after banging my head on it a half dozen times trying to kill them with arrows and combat. Only reason I had a bow and arrow is because as I came up on the camp, they killed a wandering archer guard right in front of me.

Last thing I did before logging off last night was find my horse, which gets stolen in the prologue, so that means I can stop stealing them! Or worse, actually pay for one.

Lol, that is kinda funny. Some things do bother me a little bit about the game/setting, I haven't played KCD2 but I have played over 100 hours in KCD1. Like... you're henry from skalitz, a bastard son of a local lord and end up working for him, and you run around stealing horses all the time (i've done it a bit myself), or you get loaded down with equipment from bandits or cumins and hock it off to merchants (hopefully after cleaning the blood off of it), or you wander around lockpicking into peoples homes at night to steal from their home.

A lot of the mechanics in the game are very well done, but they would feel more appropriate for a generic RPG where you might seem more likely to play a bad guy, like... I know they have reputation system, and different speech checks that are influenced by how you're dressed, but there's not enough.. "good guy" mechanics for getting around certain things? If you know what I mean. Like "halt, i'm a nobel working for lord radzig, I need to borrow this horse"

The original Final Fantasy, though the Pixel Perfect Remaster version. I never played it on the NES as I never personally had a NES; we were a TI-99 family so Hunt the Wumpus was where it was at. After that I'm going to try the Dragon Quest III 2.5 HD remake I think.

My Sorceress is now up to Level 46, and I’ve a filthy Unique Ashen Staff. Level 12 Fireball is alright. But it also causes me to cast Ember Cascade alongside every spell. And that is doing a lot of heavy lifting for me.

Still the odd boss I struggle with, but not the main ones. And now I’m only tending to get squelched when I’ve let myself get mobbed or cornered.

Finally got the hang of mechanics in Kingdom Come : Deliverance 2.

Really enjoying it and have found all pre-order bonus armor pieces and what seems like most quests in the starting area. Attended a wedding that broke down into chaos and am currently doing hard labor in a nearby castle. Pretty good fun, aside from alchemy which is an absolute bore, and there are a few other mini-game mechanics that are questionable. Not sure if they were the same in the first game, as I didn't do much in that game, other than escape a castle in the opening act.

Combat-wise, I feel like a monster, as I leveled up my warfare and sword abilities to be pretty deadly. Gotta get my ranged weapon skills and poleaxe abilities up though.

also: Totally cheated with console commands!

I read the new Witcher book in January and, after ~160h me and my wife are close to finishing our second playthrough of Witcher 3 GOTY. All of this reminded me of this little, but extremely well received game Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales and I bought it for the equivalent of 4$ on PS Store.

I have already played a couple of hours and it is really cool! Good story, dialogue and choices made me invested in the plot and card-driven battles are a couple of levels of complexity above original Gwent, and pretty satisfying to fight. So far, great fun!

Moved into a new region in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Still having a blast, though its getting kind of repetitive.

One thing that I did that I regret is selecting a Perk that reveals the map and all locations. Pretty awesome at first, then I realized it took all the wonder and discovery out of the game. Going to reset a few saves previous and not select that perk until its the last one.

Been playing a lot of Fallout: New Vegas. It's the most I've played it in ages, mostly because of all the mods I've got the game becomes a bit overwhelming. I've got all the SomeGuy story mods, but the one I've been doing the most is the World of Pain mod which adds a lot, and I mean a lot, of content. World of Pain makes Fallout: New Vegas a real Dungeon Crawler and one that is super fun and interesting. Challenging too, although, now I have five companions now so it's less challenging now, lol

Just started playing the romhack "Pokemon Crystal Clear", its a hack of Pokemon Crystal that really opens the game up, you can start in any town in kanto or johto, lots of new starter pokemon to choose from. Fewer obstacles to stop you from exploring (like cutable plants, pushable boulders, etc)

I've been playing Steel Division with a friend. It's actually oddly pretty fun. Some lists do better in certain maps though. In some maps there's more bushes and buildings and in others there are more open spaces good for tanks and long ranged AT. I may need more artillery for my current list as i was infantry heavy for my sub-faction (some british elites) but i was oddly forced to go for tanks and artillery.

I finally picked up Doom 2016 on sale. I've never been a huge fan of the franchise so I passed it over, but some games you just have to play and this is one of them. I'm not sure there's anything to say that hasn't already, but this game is fun in a way that few games manage to capture and will definitely make me wish there were more like it that manage to capture its combat flow.

And I am still playing Thronebreaker. Halfway through the game and it's still enjoyable as hell. Both card gameplay and managing your deck to tailor for different threats are really satisfying and some of these battles/puzzles are quite hard, require several attempts, tinkering with the deck and coming out of comfort zones. Great design.

The problem is how unstable the game is. It used to crash a couple od times before, but now, on the third map it does that several times per my gaming session (~1h) at totally random places - start screen, deck management, map, battle... It should have really been patched by now 😦 especially as from online comments it seems to be a common problem

Was playing Dark Souls 2 but got fed up with the run to Sir Alonne and switched to Space Marine (the first one). At the bit where the Orks are defeated, and again, my enthusiasm declines because Orks are more fun to fight than Chaos.

Also giving Soulstorm another try, because I never finished the campaign originally (despite countless hours played on Dark Crusade's campaign). Playing as Dark Eldar, finding them pretty tricky to manage!

As opposed to Duke Nukem Forever and Stalker 1 which took like 12+ years after announcement to finally release. At least Stalker 1 wasn't so bad.

----------

I'm gonna maybe stream xcom 2: long war of the chosen mod.

Also i've been playing hearts of iron 4 as japan. Should've done a naval invasion into coastal china midway through because the supply line is much better and easier that way. I'm practically into 1948 now and i just have a section of middle China left. Not sure if the game is supposed to auto-end in 1948 or if all wars need to end first. Also i was smart enough to never piss off the USA at all and even was apologetic to them. I figured antagonizing your resource daddy while you're both low on resources and occupied with a massive war where you're insanely outnumbered in attrition and supply hell was a bad idea. Turns out i made the right choice. That said i am a bit bummed i can't attack french indochina any more due to bringing india and others into my war against china and stretching the frontline to something absolutely ludicrous to maintain. It'd be more interesting than finishing off mainland china in supply line hell.

I'm going to give a very unhelpful answer and say that it will probably take 20-75 hours depending upon one's own reading skill, willingness to explore, connect the metaphorical dots and soak in the atmosphere.

Ie, treat it like a visual novel

Fired up Gladius: Relics of War, a civ-like 40k game, added a few mods to add a ton of units to the Imperial Guard's roster, got a few DLCs thanks to Steam's spring sale, and I am having a good time making themed runs, such as low-ish tech Death Korps taking on a horde of Orks or Tempestus Scions helping out a PDF to quell the wildlife/heretical cults/Tyranids.

Simple game, but the mods open up a lot of variety, at least for the Guard.

If i recall guard struggles with the early game but has an insane late game. I haven't played much on the modded sphere of it except once with simultaneous turns which as it turns out isn't a good thing for that game.

--------

I've been trying to stream xcom 2 long war of the chosen mod on commander/ironman on twitch. It's one difficulty harder than the base game so it's equivalent to legend/ironman. I feel like the additions to the mod have actually made it much easier overall. A little bummed there's no more lightning reflexes for assaults but in some ways the new ability is also really good where it makes you a little faster and doesn't trigger overwatch. It's not needed as flashbang grenadiers could cancel overwatch and slow down enemies as well as allow even a slow assault (with a shotgun) able to flank and kill but it's still nice.

The modded stuff is probably a little unbalanced, to be honest, but giving the Guard stuff like ambulances or Trojan support vehicles, as well as the option to have special weapon squads, on top of having Guardsmen from famous regiments instead of just generic Guardsmen does wonder for variety, if anything. Then also been going for platinum on twisted metal world tour, which is pain. But I will get it.

Then got 10 hours into Assassins creed and loving it, it’s actually really beautiful game as well as fun. Just walking through the wilderness has been amazing.

Got too many games to play, honestly this year has been awesome for new games, but finding time has been difficult for everything.

Want to finish the visions of mana trophies as well, but a second play-through even rush seems like less fun than the first time.

I went to fire Battle Brothers back up, and was shocked to discover they had put out a free patch with new content in it. So I'll be leading mercenary bands to their bloody demise for a few weeks until I see the fresh events.

Been playing Astro Bot after finishing Metaphor: Re-Fantazio, definitely lives up to the Game of the Year award it got, makes really good use of the haptic feedback and other features from the PS5 controller (wish more of Sony's 1st party developers did this). I'm only about maybe a 10th of the game in so far and it's already been a blast, they've done a really good job making each of the levels stand out with the different mechanics and gear they give you and it also helps that the game itself is very stunning from a visual and audio stand point. Also really like the call backs to a lot of the Sony IP that I grew up playing like Killzone, Gravity Rush, Jak and Daxter as well as things technically not in the Sony repertoire anymore, like Spyro and Crash Bandicoot.

Bought some add-ons for Total Warhammer 2 and been dabbling with the Tomb Kings and Vampire Coast.

On the Xbox, having great fun with Avowed and am trying to resist starting on AC Shadows. Technically it's my son's copy, so I'm trying to convince myself to give him a head-start before I jump in...

Been a while since I played WH2, but Count Noctilus is probably my favorite playthrough with Vampire Coast. Loved cruising the seas putting in Pirate Coves on port towns/cities, hunting Pirates and searching for treasure. His start location is pretty much smack dab in the middle of the map in WH3 so every playthrough is different.

Just thinking about it at work is making me want to do another campaign...

I never tried vampire coast but never really had much of an interest to. Could be an interesting faction in Old World if GW felt like adding it. I don't think it's as promising as other legacy armies though and we did never truly gets "Dogs of War" as a faction even though they were squatted.

I don't think i tried tomb kings that much but beastmen and skaven campaigns in tww2 are very fun due to all the extra abilities they get. Last i remember beastmen were like tomb kings but with extra flavor (heavy limits on what units you can take based on upgrades or buildings) however they are all free and so losing an army doesn't do a whole lot to them. Also watching a friend play as tomb kings with settra and watching his "battle kitty" leap and bound like a cat through enemies and pouncing on top of them was hilarious. It's even funnier when they do that to a skaven army.

No summons run of Elden Ring. Alternating between Brick Hammer /w Lion's Claw, Milady /w Wing Stance, and Antspur Rapier. Parry focused whenever possible.

I did the first two DLC main bosses at like 105-110, +18 weapon, Scadu +5.

Rellana is fine except for the two-three moves that are too fast for me to consistently parry or dodge with MKB. Controller is better for dodging. Found out after beating her that I could Carian Retaliation to abuse her spells. That would have made it easier.

Divine Dancing Beast is awful. I hate everything about it. It moves too strangely for me.

Mohg, Lord of Blood - Phase 1 is fine, Phase 2 AoE explosions suck. First boss where positioning really matters IMO.

Commander Niall - Lion's Claw deletes him, he's also easy to parry. Difficulty is vastly overstated.

Godskin Duo - Same as Commander Niall. I didn't use sleep pots. This took like 5 attempts. They have no bloody health even with only a +20 weapon.

Draconic Tree Sentinel in CFA - Not difficult if you use jump attacks, Square Off, Lion's Claw, Milady + Wing Stance, etc. I've parried them to death before, but it's kind of painful.

Malekith - The only reason he's not my least favorite boss is because Fire Giant exists.

Godfrey - Somehow easier than Gideon now. A lot of his phase 1 attacks flat out miss if you stay close and strafe him.

Jumped back to Total Warhammer 2 for a bit.

Doing a Teclis Vortex run at the moment. Turn 150 and weirdly it's really only me and the Dark Elves left as Clan Mors got knocked out shockingly early by Last Defenders I think and Hexoatl has been on the back foot for a good while now as he made the mistake of annoying Ironbrow's Expedition, who in true dwarfish fashion took whatever perceived slight to heart and has made it basically his sole mission to eliminate the great orange toad in revenge. He's been whittled down from 30ish settlements to about 4 by the dwarfs. It's kinda fun watching.

Just finished my first Mortis trial in Darktide. Pretty fun, but I haven’t played in awhile and I didn’t realize I had gotten my skill points wiped in an update and went in somewhat handicapped.

Still did alright I think, but felt like I was getting carried by my team.

I like this mode, as its not a mad dash across a map where a teammate(s) run off and Leroy Jenkins the map.

Huh, may have to give it a go again one of these days, as the donkey-cave team members thing still turns me off quite a bit from Darktide.

I've been playing Atomfall, it's alright. Quite a few features feel underwhelming (melee combat without the ability to block or dodge), poorly implemented (stealth system is just.. gak) or straight up useless (the barter system), but it has a nice vibe going for it.

Finally started God of War: Ragnarok. I had it in my head I wouldn't until I finished Witcher 3, but I've stalled out on that one pretty hard and GoW is just far more my style.

Obviously very good, but just getting started with it. Silly to have left it on the shelf this long.

I haven't jumped back in yet, but it was pretty refreshing. The difficulty that I played, 2nd from highest I think, had 12 waves and never felt overwhelming, but that might've been down to how good my team was. I was the weakest link, having forgotten how to play, being new to the mode and not having any skills selected.

Its on a map that's 1/10th the size of a normal mission. I couldn't tell if its purpose built maps for this game mode, or just a normal map cut down to size. There is still a bit of running around and retrieving servo skulls, but I never felt out of reach of a teammate even when I wandered off exploring or separated by enemy.

You also get selectable buffs every few rounds, which might give you more health pips, or increase dame/speed, etc.

I only played the one time, so YMMV.

Heard it was rough around the edges, so I held off. Looks gorgeous though.

The Fallout London Mod exists and is good so why play anything else.

Can't find the best video on the Mod so i'll be taking a risk that this is good and suitable for Dakka.

Atomfall is fun, it's not like Fallout, which can be good, can be bad, YMMV, but get it on sale, as it doesn't feel like a full game. I quite liked it, presented me with some fun story elements that haven't yet been answered, but I did get it at a discount.

In other news, played a short game called Spilled! which is about sailing in a little boat cleaning up oil slicks and other pollutants. Over in less than an hour, but a fun little destress game with cosy vibes.

Which is a shame, as its made by the same developers that made the Sniper Elite games, and I've loved all of them to varying degrees.

edit: Though I see its starting to get better reviews on steam... I might do something silly if I get bored and have some cash I want to waste.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

Beat Midra, Metyr, Gaius, Golden Hippo, Romina, Putrescent Knight by spamming Lion's Claw on a Great Hammer.
Scadutree Avatar required some more variety.
Rellana and Divine Dancing Beast were harder than the mid-level bosses.

The difficulty is so grotesquely overstated.

It does make me wish there was an option for neutral reviews on Steam sometimes, as it was a short, but fun ride, but for me some points just hold it back from being a complete and total perfect little package.

A lot of people didn't really figure out the Scadutree Fragments and the initial scaling was also a lot less generous on them.

Scaling doesn't impact stance damage, which is the real issue, or mechanic, depending on how you look at it.

Managed this yesterday as Japan in Hearts of iron 4.

Spoiler:

Took me like 3-4 tries and a lot of headache and some screaming as Japan has a terrible focus tree, terrible resources, terrible civilian and military factories and when fighting through china it's a terrible slog against massive human wave armies and going through a supply desert filled with attrition and poor resupply. Also i stayed up through the night to do it managing to get no sleep and working on no sleep at my job today because i'm an idiot and a gaming addict like that.

I'm not saying i did everything right. Me not pushing forth factory line efficiency really hurt me in replenishing my numbers and making new units which meant i was even more heavily outnumbered. That said i basically blockaded the entire chinese coast which is actually rather easy since their navy sucks and i sank all their convoys so even if they bought stuff on the Arms Market i'd sink it and they'd be left with nothing but basic infantry units and probably next to no artillery. Also china has issue with a lot as well since even though they unite to fight you as japan they don't really have good resources in most of their nearby neighbors which are mostly just in the alliance anyway. I can't stress how important blockading and sinking all his convoys was for me since that left him with mostly awful chinese tech. I don't even think they allow you to trade with landlocked neighbors in HoI4 but even if they do for resources it costs civilian factories at the minimum to maintain it which mainland china (the only part of china in the chinese alliance with an ok military factory and civilian factory amount and lots of armies) also doesn't have much of.

I didn't feel the need to make much of a navy anyway or upgrading it since i don't plan on fighting the usa (or at least not any time soon) since that's just a suicide mission. I focused on air power of all types, bettering research, resource output and more through tech i researched as well as making my infantry fairly modern. Honestly if i had to say the one bonus japan has over china is you can research more tech at a time and therefore you can modernize much faster. Also when you fight china you can easily blockade all their trade while you get trade with the usa until they get annoyed with you a few years down the road and stop all trade with you (very bad honestly because not many nations have the resources you need in your sphere with the ability to trade it to you. However by that time you should be able to fix your resources enough as is if you know what you're doing (even oil somewhat).

i am confused, why didn't you demand Indochina, it'd also have given you an in into southern china.
Also 44 is pain and suffering. When you can't wrap up pre 40 the game currently becomes a slog fest to the point of pointlessness. Especially for japan.

Beat everything without Spirit Ashes or NPC summons except Starscourge Radahn (screw that), Bayle, and PRC.
PRC phase 1 is not hard. Phase 2 feels impossible.
Bayle is just obnoxious. The hidden Dragonlord took two tries on this run...they're not even in the same league.

So i tried another game of hoi 4 as japan and it would've been ok probably if germany and italy didn't decide to get themselves murdered by the commonwealth and soviets while i was out destroying china. This forced me to have to either fight the commonwealth and allies (without the usa or to face down the soviets). I chose to face the soviets because japan needs an absurd navy to fight off commonwealth solo with allies and also because i'm not entirely sure if i'd have been able to grab all the enemy territory but probably since alliances weren't weird.

This is a different run than the last picture as in the last picture the soviets capitulated so i had to face commonwealth. I was actually doing well in that run until i had to fight in europe and africa to speed things along and i had to fight iraq which forced the usa to take sides somehow. I guess usa doesn't care when australia, india, multiple british colonies, china and the soviets are put to the torch but god forbid somebody invades iraq. It's kind of funny when you think about it. Anyway after that came the obnoxious usa and uk have naval supremacy. Wouldn't be a problem but germany and italy wouldn't allow me to take any of africa or europe that i was defeating. Also when i'm out taking territory in africa and europe to maintain the side here comes usa and uk to naval invade everything in various places. This forces me to have to go back slowly and retake it or to have iran re-take it and thus claim territory rights on all my previously conquered lands. Perfect....and because my european axis buddies are such imbeciles they won't allow me to bring any of my air power there with my armies so they are fighting a war without air support. Oh but it gets better. I can't use paratroops to take the UK because i need an airfield and to do that i need territory in europe because i'm technically co-asian prosperity sphere rather than axis so i can't share his airfields. Best i can do is give him as many aircraft as i have and have for the best. Turns out japan and italy/germany are just placed in very bad spots to help each other. Pretty sure if soviets capitulate to axis it helps but not really.

Oddly axis was more useless in my 2nd game than my first. I don't even know what you're supposed to do as japan outside of just fighting asia. There's is legitimately no reason to fight anywhere in europe or africa while playing as japan so you just gotta hope for the best and hope germany can take out the UK commonwealth all by itself and maybe italy. The sad part is it should be do-able. Next time i'll just make a ton of naval bombers and air superiority aircraft and hope he uses them correctly.

Oh and most hilariously of all my 2nd last game had ww2 last into the mid 1950's and saw over 50 million deaths on each side without considering china or the soviet union. So basically over 100 million died and at that point japan had been at war for like 18 years almost. Pretty sure the whole world would be reeling from ptsd at that point.

All bosses done solo, no spirit ashes.
Prime Consort Radahn was easily the hardest.
Bayle is medium difficulty when using the gimmick sword for him.

I haven't played either space marine 2 or helldivers 2 and while i think Space Marine 2 is a good introduction to wh40k (from watching other people stream it). It does feature primaris (not massively thrilled) and uh i dunno how to feel about it. The only real spoiler was leandros. Most of the game felt fairly unsurprising somehow. Which is sorta different from space marine 1. I will say the tyranid ai seemed cool though and the enemies looked fun to fight but the story was more lacking than in the previous game imo. I do find it hilarious they send 3 random ultramarines to take out a Hive Tyrant though. I mean didn't Marneus Calgar get totally destroyed by a hive tyrant of some kind when fighting hive fleet behemoth. I heard that scene has gotten meme'd on into oblivion.

-----

Went through another game of Hearts of Iron 4 as japan and there was at first some success but going into it without CAS was a problem. I may try again with tanks and supply trucks this time just to try it out. Turns out you can change up tanks quite a lot and give them a lot of upgrades and they're both good in breakthrough and soft attack. Do i realize this will cost a lot of oil to do? Yes. However it costs lots of oil to have a significant air army and navy as well and i would prefer having something with better breakthrough and speed so i don't have to slowly take china through a million artillery shells and CAS. I think i'll still use CAS though but we'll see. Probably a mistake and will leave me in horrible oil issues and will have a lack of focus but we'll see how it goes. Ofc this also means i'll probably have to cut down on other units but with a smaller airforce it also means i don't have to keep buying aluminum since japan has to import most of it. Of course oil is the same way but you can mitigate that somewhat. My only issue is that there will likely be supply issues into low supply areas which aircraft doesn't always care about. However aircraft eats up fuel too.

Regarding the Hive Tyrant

Spoiler:
they did start off by dropping a 20 storey building on the thing. 100,000 tons impacting at velocity tends to rather ruin your day. I’m just disappointed the final kill does t involve using a thunder hammer to nail the thing to the ground with the massive girder thats jammed through the Tyrant

My biggest problem with the story was how much of it they tried to tell me in the middle of my middle aged brain trying to respond to the blue and red action quick time markers. I don’t multitask at the best of times

Well turns out tanks and planes was somewhat of a bad idea in my last Hearts of Iron 4 game. I didn't lose any land this time but china as it turns out has absurdly awful and not flat terrain. There are a lot of mountains, hills, some rivers and some urban terrain with some desert terrain as well among others. In other words it's a nightmare to navigate with tanks who seem to take negative modifiers for everything.

The negative modifiers are a reason why i'm thinking of focusing on specialists like mountaineers, paratroops or marines. Each could be a solid choice but i think there's a limit of how many you can make total. Marines are great for going through amphibious battles and rivers, mountaineers can go through china's many mountains and paratroopers can drops behind enemy lines and either secure bridges or even grab docks. Each is a solid choice and i plan to use them in my next try of a Japan run in China in HoI4.

Not sure what i'm doing wrong as i had supremacy in most fights for a time but when i clicked on the individual battles that i'd eventually lose the enemy always had an intel supremacy even if that was the only positive they had. I think i heard intel allows the enemy to choose superior tactics in fights. That said which is the correct way to get intel? Is it radar, through covert agencies, through recon planes or through recon option per army being higher than the enemy's. It's really frustrating not knowing the exact problem the game wants me to solve.

Also somehow they had a gajillion chinese soldiers even without much artillery. Dunno how they manage to give them all proper gear but even when mine were fully geared up it didn't matter much.

So the real question is i will go back to infantry but should i go for cavalry, truck based infantry armies or soldiers on foot. It's rather frustrating. I may even run amphibious tanks since it's the only type of tank that does well for amphibious invasions, going through rivers and also likely forts. Also as i said earlier which specialist troops specialization should i pick. There's just so many and they all can have uses. As good as paratroopers are they can't easily take tanks however for obvious reasons and while they can be dropped in many places (like to secure a bridge). I've never used them in an actual normal combat before.

Anyway the choices are going down but there are simultaneously more options than i originally thought. I think this run might go better. Going to focus on infantry heavy with artillery and planes. China never has much of a navy so naval or airforce invasions are fairly easy too. The problem with naval invasions are since naval engagements are so one sided you don't get a lot of navy experience and therefore can't give marines many upgrades too easily.

If you have the expansion which introduced spy agencies, then you build up intel by having your agents build an intel network in the enemy country.

Bleeding China's manpower is almost impossible, however bleeding its equipment is somewhat more doable. If you can find a location where you can make repeat encirclements then that could be a way to go. Lure them in, encircle fast to cut them off, wipe out the encircled divisions and then retreat back to reset the trap.

@A Town Called Malus:

Thanks for the help. Yes i do have the covert options dlc but i don't use it as much as japan with the lack of civilian factories.

I was doing a couple campaigns or so since the last one i mentioned. I did find motorized rocket artillery is fun and tends to win fights. The big issue is it still takes me until at least somewhere in 1944 to take china by which time in the campaign the entire axis side usually fully capitulates and i'm sorta on my own hoping the soviets and allies fight each other. The last time i did take advantage of the allies and soviets fighting to fight against the allies but for some stupid reason the soviets declared war on me when i was busy helping them fight the allies and then they mostly 2vs1'd to which i just got frustrated and gave up.

I was thinking afterwards that manpower destroying was a bad idea vs china but i was thinking bombing the enemy factories would've been a good choice to keep their factories not producing weapons or equipment or having civilian factories at all for trade or to build things. Of course a friend on dakka said that way a bad idea since it destroys infrastructure in china (making it harder to traverse with armies) and that i shouldn't even destroy enemy trucks with logistics strikes which is interesting. I've never really done logistics strikes before for what it's worth. He also said that while Close air support was good as an option for helping armies that CAS planes are bad or at least in china where range of planes makes missions more or less effective and said i should instead take tactical bombers for double duty instead of strategic planes or CAS for their own separate tasks.

I'm actually trying to settle on other options now for another run of japan but instead i'll just plant some troops at the border. I'll use mostly militia but with entrenchment except at the direct nationalist chinese border and then i'll use maybe one experienced army to do the Strike South doctrine and attack dutch east indies and others. At least it should solve my resource issues without having to sacrifice civilian factories through trading with the usa. I imagine i'll still end up having to buy oil from the usa as well as other resources but it will force me to use navy a bit more and that may cause steel and oil shortage issues anyway. *sigh* Well here's to trying at least. I do like some of the difficulty in japan playthroughs but it's like slamming my head against a wall when they have resource issues and have to fight so many things at the same time.

Started playing the original FF7 on the Nintendo Switch. I am finding the story and setting pretty interesting. But its kind of odd that there's no Defend option in the battles. And for a while I was stuck on that robot scorpion boss way at the beginning. Learning that robots are weak to lightning helps a bit.

Maybe later on I'll try FF6 because I heard Kefka was a really cool villain. And then maybe FF 8 and FF 9.

I did try playing FF12 years earlier, but despised the gameplay on that one.

I'd say Suikoden series is my main jam when it comes to JRPGs, and I've been loving the Spiritual Sucessor Euiyden Chronicle.

IIRC you can defend by pressing one of left or right on the battle options, hidden from the four normal selections.

So last time i played Hearts of Iron 4 i did the Strike South Doctrine and attacked the resource rich islands along with leaving defense forces in china's border.

It went well for a while even when ww2 was going on in europe and the british invited the dutch (and dutch east indies) to fight in allies which made things harder for a bit. Eventually i handled them all however but when i invaded singapore (i think that was the one) and went through siam to get them back it just went wrong. Too many enemies including china, india, and some british colony.

I should've probably tried naval invading china instead (maybe would've kept the enemy factions separated from each other).

That said i wonder if i should've just said eff it and invaded australia instead or even india rather than going through the multiple front war near siam. Also i should never call siam as an ally into the war and maybe just have them for docking rights for my ships.

Due to frustration and being in a multi-front war turned into italy fracturing into civil war and being the achilles heel in every campaign i play as japan which they always lose said civil war and usually take germany with them who has to fight soviet union and the commonwealth allies and newly freed enemies all by itself. It's so frustrating. The worst part is in this campaign germany wasn't even at war with the soviet union until italy capitulated and commonwealth allies were surrounding it. Keep this in mind. Germany actually declared war on the soviet union when it was in an extremely disadvantageous position. I swear playing as axis and east asian co prosperity sphere you have to hope the other faction doesn't make an insanely stupid mistake and brings down the wrath of everybody onto you. The game really is a race against time. The allies and soviets need to hold on long enough for the usa or soviets to join in and the axis/co-prosperity sphere need to do what they can as fast as they can and be careful about what enemies they make and when.

On one hand i think i'm getting better at japan playthroughs. Strike South doctrine is far more interesting and gives you a lot more factories and resources that you won't need to use in stupid ways.

So lesson learned. Don't call siam into the war since it leaves you in a bad situation. Also Vichy france owning indochina is probably the better choice for docking rights for your navy but hard to say. Also you can get some good resources grabbing british malaya and others while never dealing with a huge front with loads of enemy factions. Another big thing is siam when called into war it takes a lot of land you'd otherwise get factories and resources for. Basically siam called into war isn't worth it.

Gonna take a break from Hearts of Iron 4 for now though sadly and not so sadly. The game is frustrating and is ruining my sleep schedule. With family visiting this weekend and work before that i absolutely can not play any time soon.

-------

In other news i've been play Tempest Rising and it's been good in the mean time.

Everything went well in my Tempest Dynasty campaign playthrough until i finished my latest mission and the game went to error screen. Hours of gaming and it went to error screen. Gonna maybe see if it keeps doing error screen and if my save is either corrupted and i need to replay the mission or if i should upgrade my computer (it is a very bad computer).

Anyway i'll update more on this later.

Just started on the remaster of Oblivion. Just made it as far as Weynon Priory after a short stop in the market district to sell some loot. In short, it's lovely. I loved Oblivion back in the day, probably still preferred it overall to Skyrim - and they've given it just the right amount of tweaking and polishing. It still feels like the same game, but it's all just a bit more accessible and graphically it's lovely. Still the same bizarre persuasion mini-game though...

I'm not saying oblivion isn't a fun game but it's a game people liked over 10 years ago. In fact skyrim was probably 10 years ago. Man gaming must be in a sad state if a remastered game that old with no mods is more popular than anything bethesda has made outside of a remaster in 10 years or so. Just saying a lot of twitch streamers i watch are all playing the remaster which came out of nowhere with nearly no ads.

Been playing the alpha test for the upcoming Marathon extraction shooter from Bungie. It seems to be getting a divided reaction but i've been enjoying it for what it is. It's like a good foundation or framework for a game but needs more content. But they did limit the amount of stuff available to try out, at launch it should feel more complete.

I've been having a lot of fun with Throne of Bones on PC. Essentially, it's a roguelike deckbuilder, similar to Hearthstone's dungeon mode. The twist is that you're a necromancer, with all sorts of expendable and hideous minions at your command.

Seems well structured, though poison feels a little too easy to exploit right now. But it's characterful, plays quickly, and is well executed.

Jumped on the Clair Obscur bandwagon last night and... yeah, if nothing else that opening is something special. I haven't dug too much into the game proper, but it definitely stands out as something special in its opening hour or so.

Also back on Space Marine 2. The prestige system is surprisingly fun despite mostly being an excuse to grind out more missions. The new Trygon level is really solid too, with a great pace and sense of narrative urgency throughout that keeps everyone moving.

As a newcomer to SM2, our first run at the Trygon was very much an extended "um, where are you? Where am I? where are we meant to go? Why can't I see anything, and why is that nothing now eating my face"

Still good fun, but somewhat unfocussed for the first part of the mission.

I kind of enjoy that unfocused opening, but mostly because a lot of the others are so linear. I feel like it separates and reconnects the team in fun ways.

As a kid I usually played the default 4, just swapping between Thief and Monk. As I've gotten to know the game better I've definitely found Red Mage to be a staple. It's surprising how viable everything really is in the game, though it does depend a bit on which version you're playing as they mess with a lot of the quirkier stuff about it pretty often.

Retro's The Spectrum. A wonderful recreation of the original rubber-key computer from the early 80s.

It includes 48 games from the early days of the Sinclair Spectrum's life and a few from the modern homebrew era. Sadly the majority are somewhat useless if one doesn't have the original instructions to go with them, so a bit of hunting around on World of Spectrum is in order. But worth it...

Just finished it. Spent like over 50% of the game wandering around aimlessly. Good god, this game does not tell you where to go. All that involuntary grinding was probably a good thing though. The game is super easy until the final boss who was suddenly very difficult.

Picked up Return to Moria. Grindy dwarf simulator is grindy. However the environments are pretty and you get to murderize goblins. It gets a lot less frustrating after the fast travel system properly unlocks.

The interesting bit is that it’s based on a seed system so each game is different, limiting the ability to simply follow internet guides. The exploration is fun, but it can be a bit frustrating when you miss the one diggable route needed to progress.

Stronghold (remaster) campaign, it's taking quite a lot of getting used to. Trying to even fathom how Crusader Kings 2 works, tried to 'upgrade' Deus Ex GOTY with a new renderer, map update, and an updated launcher but I may have messed up the install somehow.

Definitely an embarrassing thing to admit, but I just beat the Touhou 20 demo.Very refreshing new title, will be purchasing it on release for sure, a great return-to-form for veterans and n00bs alike. Excited to see what ZUN does next!

But I'm about to hop back into the Witcher games again. I'll probably skip the 1st game as I've played that enough to know it back to front. I'm a little annoyed that the game doesn't explain the bloody trade mechanic at all, so I skipped all the merchants in chapter 1 and landed in chapter 2 with way too much cargo and none of the unique items those merchants could've given me.

I'm in between games right now. I've been playing HoI4 with a friend as fascist japan and the kingdom of brazil. Brazil has a much updated tree however and easier fights with neighboring south america which it can make core territory of. Japan however needs an update hard. We stopped playing maybe a week and a half ago when i finally took over china and he had most of south america and i think he core'd most of it. Oddly this put our factories at least at similar amounts but my military out-performs his by miles.

Aside from that i've been playing Tempest Rising as GDF now that i've finished the Tempest Dynasty.

I plan to play xenonauts 2 soon now that it's been heavily updated while in early access for like 2 years.

I've been playing xenonauts 2. The first campaign went ok until it didn't around day 165 after i got a squad wipe in a terror mission and within days was followed by a ufo i couldn't fight off which invaded my base when i was stuck re-making all my gear. I basically quit out of the game out of frustration.

I'm on my 2nd run of xenonauts 2 and it all seems to be going well enough. I have a lot more gear available this time but i'm only at like day 60-90 and i downed 2 ufos in quick succession so i'll probably only raid one of them but we'll see. So far no squad wipes which is good because the last game had at least 2 squad wipes.

-----

Updates:

Xenonauts 2 campaign is going really well. I raided both ufo's no casualties and i fought the cleaner base with 2 casualties (1 soldier died permanently and one was resurrected by medbay). I'm basically drowning in resources at the moment. Money may be the next priority. Best part is i got all this done before the alien invasion escalated to a normal invasion so my money per month is pretty solid.

Been having a blast playing Firewarrior. The first couple of levels in the trenches were way shorter then I remember them being, I had recollections of the Valkyrie boss happening much later.
Still, going for all the A-rankings has been fun, with some levels being surprisingly challenging, especially as I struggled to initially remember all the secret objectives. Missed the "bread" after you rescue Ko'Vash about half a dozen times.

Been working on a golf game for Android, so lots of playing golf games as..."research"...

Leaderboard - ZX Spectrum
Golf - NES
World Class Leaderboard - Megadrive.

...and I feel like I've been missing out over the years. Even on an ancient Speccy, you can still have a very playable golf game with 3D graphics that only takes about 5 seconds to render the landscape. Once rendered the 2D elements take over and its a very smooth experience.

5 seconds sounds like a long time by today's standards but golf is naturally a slow paced game and you spend that time considering the next shot and usually the shot you just made - how it could have been better.

Having another go at extra-judicial execution simulator, The Division 2. I have successfully murderised many people that my all-encompassing augmented reality assistant assured me were "bad"

The set piece missions are fair enough, as its clear that some level of research has gone into the issue, and you are usually rescuing people or fixing equipment being damaged by naughty actors. The less clear cut ones are where you are hundreds of metres away from random folks in the street, and you kill them because they have a little red tag on them, rather than a green tag. I realise that this is going into way too much thought about the issue, but it does crop up in my head while playing

Also tried out the new Kurtzgesagt spin-off game Star Birds on Steam. A free demo is available. Its a gentle, low stakes and brightly coloured resource gathering and process management game. A relaxing time-waster so far.

Just polished off Assassin of Kings. Followed Iorveths path on Dark Mode this time as I did Roche last time. Was pleasantly surprised that I remembered very little of the story and had absolutely no recollection of how it ended. So it was kind of like playing a whole new game again with was nice.

I've only got 8 achievements left to get, and as half of them are Roche path specific (clearly was not overly adventurous the first time around) so I can get them all with one more playthrough. I suspect that Madman will probably forever elude me though, as Dark Mode gave me enough trouble with combat. So I can't imagine Insane difficulty, having an unworkaroundable permadeath, will ever see me complete it. I'll move on to Wild Hunt now and finish that before I come back to it.

Things were going well in xenonauts 2 until the aliens turned up to these new green weapons (fusion i think?) which cut through my soldiers really well. I think i lost 2 full squads and have soldier shortage and experience issues now. Dunno how i lost momentum over such a long game but i guess it happens. I also lost asia so if i lose another region i auto lose. Perhaps i should've assaulted the alien structure in space sooner since they've been orbital bombarding funding regions on Earth every 2-3 weeks or so. This is a fairly new version of xenonauts 2 for me so i'm kind of inexperienced with the end game. Which is where i'm sorta at. I feel like building the 3rd base left me in a bad position.

Can't remember which day i'm at in the game but probably around day 200 something. Just looked and it absolutely has to be passed day 255. Anyway i think the game is over for this run. I may have to try another campaign when i'm done being salty about the current one.

Leveling up my Zealot in Darktide.

My main dude is a Psyker, and I love playing it, but I was looking for something different. I also can't seem to enjoy my max level Ogryn, though he can be fun every now and again.

Also, it always seems like its Zealot players that run ahead and get killed, so I decided to be the change! Staying with the team, and focusing on the big bads. Been pretty successful, aside from an unfortunate Plague Ogryn encounter on a bridge where 2 of the team got punted off the bridge. I definitely get the appeal of trying to solo the level, because some of the weapons are so rewarding, like the thunderhammer! So far I'm resisting the siren song of going full Leroy Jenkins, but I understand it now, to an extent.

And the amount of folks who don't use a mic in this game is crazy. Its almost as frustrating as the "heroes" who run off on their own.

Just purchased Rebellion’s Atomfall.

They’re sneaky buggers, as up until about ten, fifteen minutes ago I didn’t know the game existed. But. I did just finish reading a comic based prequel story in Judge Dredd Megazine, and it was right up my street.

Mystery! Sci-fi! Folk Horror! Falloutesque Setting!

Comic ended a bit abruptly, but it really did grip me enough to spend £75 on the fancy pants digital version for PS5.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Played an hour or so last night, snuffed it once or twice.

Seems you can complete the game via stealth, and don’t have to off anyone. And to be honest, whilst jumping out a bush and setting about someone’s face with a Cricket Bat is undeniably fun? I think I’m going to embrace the stealth side. It’s my preference in Skyrim, and whilst I’m not sniping people here, it is fun to find a suitable vantage point, learn the routes, then run the risk.

Still plugging my way through Majora’s Mask. Still flip flopping on whether I enjoy it or not, thanks to having to keep rewinding time and that.

Definitely not an intuitive game. It's completely brilliant, but very hard to progress through without a guide the first time through. It "feels" more punishing than it actually is though and once you get into more of a Soulslike/Roguelike mindset with it some of its rougher edges really smooth out.

The actual Dungeons are a bit of a doddle. But with every reset, there’s niggly little things you need to do, like either collecting the Silver Rupees in Clock Town to get some funds or withdrawing from your savings, then tanking it around in Termina Field to get Bombs, Arrows, Fairies etc.

I feel there’s also too many races, which go on a bit and once you’ve utterly and horribly blobbed it, no option to Give In.

But I definitely enjoyed it more when it first came out.

One of my favorite games of all time. It was really mind-bending at the time. I hope it still stands up but time is more unkind to Video Games than any other form of media/art. One of my favorite games back in the day was Perfect Dark. It was rereleased a few years ago. I picked it up but couldn't even play it for 5 minutes.

Plugging away at Wild Hunt. Really REALLY disliking Gwent. I'm no good at those sort of games and it's pissing me off that there's so much of it. Took me about 20 goes to beat the Bloody Baron and that hasn't filled me with confidence about my chances of late game matches.

What was wrong with Dice Poker?

With the new expansion I'm back playing the Rogue Trader CRPG and having a great time. Although my laptop was going into Hibernate mode sporadically while in the middle of the game. Then it eventually kept going back into Hibernate when I tried to get out of it. I had to restart eventually, losing quite a bit of progress. I updated my graphics driver and other things, so I hope it's stopped now.
