Beautiful! Great painting, and love the conversion work on the oblit. Particularly like the head and how you've smoothed out all that messy skin on the arms and cleaned up the back. I'll be watching, this is already looking great - Salvage

<3 across the board, particularly for the defiler. Great conversion, that one. Dig the legs on the 2 rubrics and the fantasy AS, spicing it up.
The ushabti prince, while definitely cool, strikes me as awfully "alien friend" (think ET) with the non-threatening pose and funky hand. BUT I like and would appreciate another angle of it, the low-angle shot I think is messing with me. And his non-threatening pose is clearly casting something spooky / weaving your doom type stuff, which I can dig.

Awesome. Your style is very painterly. I dig it.
I especially like your palette choices. I know the Thousands Sons colors are already set, but I think the actual shades of blue and gold you went with work really well, and the colors you use on the weapons add great contrast that doesn't detract from the model.

I concur with Salvage, the very first thing my eyes stopped on was the red picked out on the bolter barrel, and though I can't really explain why (never been a master of art theory and color wheel whoseywhatsits) I really, really like it. Coupled with the bit of detail on the belt/stomach picked out in the red, it really really looks great. All your stuff looks killer so far, keep it up!

I'm going to disagree here. I know what you're saying, and I don't think it would make it look bad or anything. In some ways, it would be the logical thing to do.
But I think that the paint job really works as is. It's got a look to it that I can only describe as painterly, and it's something I don't really see often on miniatures. In this case, I think it works really well. I feel like that at this point, this army has somewhat of a unique, artsy style that sets it apart from a lot of other armies. I feel like another level of highlights would just make look like one of the many other well-painted armies out there, and some of the stylistic uniqueness it currently has could be lost.
I think that would be a shame.
But please, keep up the good work!

your painting is immaculate as are your modelling skills, nice work. The only thing I don't like is the NMM, but I don't like any NMM as it never looks like metal.

the yellow is strong. I usually wait until like now when you tell me though. Commenting on NMM sometimes is like asking a larger woman when she's due. You either get an answer (or in our case, "it's supposed to be yellow"), or you get your nose smashed in because she was only a little fat (or "it's not yellow, it NMM gold! duh!)
but I wasnt sure if the bolter casings were supposed to be NMM or just a cold grey.

the robes on the rubrics are a layer of white, followed by a mix of skull white and a tiny bit of regal blue(its actually the light blue colour you can see on the robes), and then finish it by layering the robe till it gets the nice white colour(just water down the white and youll be fine)
and the Sorcerer is actually the same, only the signs are washed with the new blue wash, and then the details were picked out after that with skull white.

Dig the white robed rubrics, and the new AS is impressive already. On the dread, I think I like the horror arm better than I like the extended ankles. Or more specifically, I like the random horror arm and I don't like the ankles. Just look so thin. Though I understand why you lengthened them - when I was building my second AL dread last week I was a little non-plussed at how the legs sit right on the feet, almost no gap after nipping the tag off the ankles.

Ahhhhhh look at that rhino, wow. Just so much going on there, love it. If I had to pick one thing, it's the outline on the chaos undivided star ... or the gem you did on that track fastener bit, damn.
Keep up the great stuff Dev, you the man.

Man,
I love your work.
It not flawless in skill (magnification never help's the cause) but it's pretty darn close!
The stle of that rhino is breath-taking!
I really am struggling to finish off my Dark Angels and not jump straight back to painting my Tzeentch every time you post.
Also,
the rubrics really are looking better,
a more complete theme and still not very busy because you are using the effects as a quasi highlight.
Very nice!

Alright Develain,
I have finished ruff sketches for the banners you requested! Take a look, and everyone else feel free to comment and give suggestions!
Basic ideas
Random Colors, they can be changed. Just did it to give you an idea of what they would look like with color.
And here, for you as well I'll mail the original. Just felt like drawing it up! Hmmm it may be a little too fine arts "ish for you, lol.
Alright anyone has comments or suggestions give em up! Develain let me know what you think and changes.

this is really nice, thanks alot for the sketches
it is perfect for a thousand sons army, its great how you executed it, even though your not really into warhammer at all.
anyway this will be really good stuff for my army

that forgeworld dread is very nice, well done.
i like the rhino a lot too, i have a "good guy" rhino conversion that has the same lifted canopy going on, but mine will end up as a whirlwind with all the missiles stored internally in what used to be the crew compartment, then little doors opening on the roof like a nuke missile submarine.
using the little pointy bits on each side as little structural details is really nice, and i will definately be copying that (if i can find that bit)
my only criticism is with the left hands on the 2 Rubs. The top one looks to be holding some sort of grenadery, which makes sense, although the way he is holding them is kind of vana white-ish. i cant figure out what is going on in the 2nd dudes left hand. it looks like he has a microphone or something.

loving the sorceror, and as allways, lovin the rubics, gotta teach me to paint like that
als, just as an idea since your painting and converting is allready ace.
ever though about bringing a unit of ushabti into your army?
could use em as tooled up chosen, or as termies.
easy enogh to convert weapons on them, and with the way they look counting them as having lightning claws isnt far fetched atall, and you then get to add something other than the basic TS units.
and they look great

uhm yeah. i dont have any room for the ushabti conversions.

I have one request--can you get us a wide angle view of the troops and vehicles together? I'd love to see a long view which displays how this looks on the table.

well for Tau, there is one colour scheme i like, and that is this one on the cover of an white dwarf. its dark red for the fatigue and bone for the armour.
http://oz.games-workshop.com/whitedwarf/issues/WD318/cover.jpg
but if i had to choose i would go for the red tiger camo, btw is the camo all over the models?

that aint a bad colour.
red tiger armour, and i might do black clothing with a deep red hint.
could be amusing working out an effective way of painting red tiger.
allthough, white clothing might go well.

I'm just now seeing this Blog and WOW.
Your painting style is very crisp and clean and bold, it's exactly the style I aspire to become good at. I'm slightly Bias as yellow and blue are my fav color scheme from back when I played the TTG Warzone and had a Bauhaus army, which then Carried over to my Iyanden Eldar.
Incredible work Dev, look foward to seeing more, and like Sphynx I would be interested to see any kind of step by step you can do on painting.

Don't want to break the flow, but those wings are garbage. It's just my opinion but they look like they belong on a Hello Kitty corrupted by Slaanesh or something (Hello Kinky, eeeeew :S ).
Otherwise it is fraggin amazing, a thousand times better than my TS.

Yes develain you should do something completely out of you character, something that will allow you to look at it in a different way and challenge you to go over the top. I know you and I know what you can do, as good as your thousand sons were (amazing!) I think you were just playing around, when put to the test, I believe you will do some brilliant work! so I will be very interested in what you choose, make it count mate!

Decided to make a new 1700 pt tournie list.
I am going to throw the lesser daemons out of the list, and replace them with a 3rd Rhino and a 2nd daemon Prince
here is the start of that 3rd rhino, going to add more plasticcard to it and also a dozer blade:
As you can see its heightened just as the other rhinos and will be painted and decorated just as the previous ones.
tomorrow I will buy a new prince and gonna start converting it

Lol.
I keep getting so much questions about the yellow.
It's actually fairly easy. It is a basecoat of Tausept ochre highlighted with Golden Yellow, and the rivits are shaded with vermin brown and the rivits are then painted white.
Hope this helps.
