It's out next week! I'll be downloading it as soon as I get home from school (or possibly early in the morning; I'm not very good with timezones). Headhunter should be awesome, and it's great to finally see Elites that are different from SPARTANS in multiplayer.
They're huge! Huge like Xbox!
And the ViDocs are great. I'm really looking foward to this!
Cheese Elemental wrote:I wonder if Reach will be any more relaxed in multiplayer. I get the feeling my Halo 3 record isn't too good... better check Bungie.net. BRB.
Hmm. 1.12 ranked K/D ratio and 1.30 social K/D ratio. Bugger.
Halo can be less in your face on some game modes than others.
And I'm "Ranked K/D Ratio: 0.99", "Social K/D Ratio: 0.95", so don't worry
My gamertag is my forum name if you feel like getting buizay
I hope some of the achivements (particularly the 'kill X players with Y in Z seconds' ones) are easier to get this time around. I've been struggling to get Steppin' Razor so I can unlock the Ascetic helmet (because I've been using the Assault helmet for ages), but I honestly don't see how I'm supposed to get a triple kill with an energy sword in a Lone Wolves game.
Hell, I can't even get the Triple Kill achievement with a goddamn rocket launcher or grenade spam.
Lord-Loss wrote:I loled at the pie chart showing how many of your game is social/custom/campain/ranked.
Atleast 80% of mine is custom and 2.1k matches out of the 3.5k matches I've played are custom.
It's because I'm not on XBL whenever I turn on my 'box. I have to plug it into my modem with an ethernet cable, and that cuts out the internet for everyone else in the house. I'm not wasting $120 on a wireless adapter when I can get a better, cheaper connection directly from my modem.
I don't have ODST myself (AARGGGHHH why couldn't I spend 40 euros?) but I really want to play the Beta. I'd better stop chewing off my own fingertips out of anticipation and get me some money. Since I just started a Halo clan I'd better get the Beta (y'know, a clan without a leader's... odd.). I'm looking forward to perhaps playing with some of you guys?
My GamerTag is my username, Lord Nimr0d.
Hmmm, I have ODST but no X-Box Live. I'm tempted to disconnect the computer and redeem one of those 2-day trials you get with pretty much any game.
While I wait to decide, it is entertaining to watch some of my Halo 3-playing friends denounce Reach as the death of Halo. Some of them seem quite adamant that Reach will never take off.

Really? First time I'm hearing that. What are their arguments/reasons for thinking so?
I however think Halo 3 is the worst in the series. XD
To be honest, the assassinations will be very impractical in the middle of a firefight, and seem to be a way of saying 'feth you' to your slain foe without resorting to teabagging.
I wonder what the Elite-kills-SPARTAN ones will be like.

He's convinced that Reach will have fullly destrutible terrain. He's convinced that their changing too much in Reach. He seems to have some strange hatred of the Marksman's Rifle.

Lol? They haven't featured destructible terrain any of the videos, and it's not gonna happen, cause their still using the same engine. I can't imagine how he thought this one up..
As for changing to much... It's not much more of a change then 1 to 2, or 2 to 3. I mean dual wields, sword, deployables etc.
And the Marksman's Rifle looks like my box of chocolates (along with needle rifle) since i always preferred carbine.
I hope the refreshed pistol isn't the stupid broken 3-shot-kill weapon it was in Halo CE. That thing ruined multiplayer for me because it was too easy once you learned how to lead a target and it made newbies cry.
It does the same per-shot damage as the DMR - which means it will take four (IIRC) shots to take down a Spartan's shields, and five shots to take down an Elite's.
The differences between the two are magazine capacity (DMR has more), range (DMR has more), and rate of fire (pistol has more). So the DMR is better at long range, and the pistol does better up close.
Well at least it won't be the gamebreaker it originally was. It really needs to be put in a proper sidearm role instead of the primary weapon of most players (like in Halo CE).
Cheese Elemental wrote:I hope the refreshed pistol isn't the stupid broken 3-shot-kill weapon it was in Halo CE.
3 shot kill weapon nothing. A single head shot from it was enough. Trust me, my friend was an ace with it.
It was a 3shot kill weapon, 2 shots (don't have to be headshots cause headshots dont do extra damage on shield) third shot brings shield down and hits head.
I was in the Dutch halo Championship with Halo 1, I should know (my friend won though :( )
Magnum was still 1 hit kill in halo 3 when the oppenents sheilds are down.
And I'm gettin live for the 1st time this summer (after my exams pretty much) is there any point me playing halo 3 or odst or should i just wait for reach?
Glad im not at work tomorrow Had to get back into halo now since i stopped playing for ages to play MW2 instead lol.
If anyone wants a few games of MLG or TSn drop me your tag and ill play a few.
49 in MLG currently (lost last game) and still 50 in Tsn (locked in now due to having around 500xp in it)
I'll be up early tomorrow to start the download. Should complete itself while I'm at school. Too bad I don't finish until 4pm though, so I won't get home until at least 6.
I currently have 2 accounts
1. Ranked k/d 1.24
social k/d 1.68
high skill 50
2. Ranked ----
Social 3.58
high skill 1
I have a propper account for when i want to play for a challenge, and a rubbish one where i have no Ranked games and a good social k/d. I only play on that one for a laugh
Taking ages to download the Beta, It's on 8% after 45 minutes. I'm considering downloading overnight 'cause I wanna play Borderlands, but I'm going to be kicking myself in an hour or two when everyone on my friends list is playing it.
Yep, I agree, but, I'm already fed up with it, the people lack teamplay, and all they want to play is either capture the flag variants, or headhunter, which just comes down more to luck then skill.
Soladrin wrote:Yep, I agree, but, I'm already fed up with it, the people lack teamplay, and all they want to play is either capture the flag variants, or headhunter, which just comes down more to luck then skill.
I think you're missing the point of the beta.
This is a mere preview of one of the year's most anticipated games. Of course the fanbase is going to want to try all the shiny new things at first!
Took 2 hours download, and finding a game is near fething impossible since it takes ages lol, got 7 games in though, so im currently 7/0/0, so all good
Also, jetpack + G-launcher kicks ass.
Been amused with the camo too though, seems like some nice possibilities.
Sprint - Dislike it, has minimal use tbh.
Shield - has to be as much use as a chocolate teapot so far.
Every time ive seen someone do it its been followed up by them being assassinated.
All in all though, ive found my MW2 replacement lol.
The new tricks should have a ton more use when playlists and more maps are released in the actual game, but until then, they seem limited.
I do like the fact that you cant use tricks while carrying flags.
Stops people grabbing it and running off / cloaking / flying away.
Allready have a few vids saved, mainly a killamanjaro in free-for-all.
And a double overkill on 1 flag. (people dont seem to know its a 1 hit kill lol)
One thing i do miss though is the height of jumps :(
Makes me a sad panda that you can only just ninja people on it due to reduced jumping :(
my only problem is that the server is flooded with players to the point that its been overloaded and doesnt connect half the time I try to play lol. Only got 2 games in before the connection was overloaded, but i keep losing because I havent played a Halo game in MONTHS.
That being said, new Assault Rifle's sound effects are awesome, it actually sounds powerful now. Also, at one point I absolutely annhialated a dude with what appeared to be a lock-on cluster plasma grenade launcher
garret wrote:jet pack should be faster. the point is to escape fire. its not doing that.
No it's not. It's for getting to high-up areas or gaining the advantage of height in the middle of an open battlefield. Sprint is the one you use to escape.
My main question is, how long is the beta going to be avable is there a certen date when we can play no more untill the realease of the full game, some one please inform me?

No, they are only picking one of the lesser shiny ones, compared to the rest of the choices>_<
Argh, this morning went terribly. I had a fair few matches with negative K/D spreads. Getting stuck in SWAT didn't help, because I'm fething terrible at it.

But man did we do awesome in that Covy Slayer game on Sword Base!
Two quitting=we wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin.
Heading to bed now. Early date with the ladyfriend
I had a blast with this today. We thought the armor upgrades you can buy would improve the the abilities like stealth etc.. Convinced.. haha. I actually think default looks the best which is sad.
I have played like EDIT 49 games today. I think I've won like 17 or so.. But I'm only a sarge..
All the modes were cool. Except Juggernaut is the game where you camp a room and win congrats.. Slayer is of course great. I really hate stockpile though, it just feels like a treasure hunt with people shooting at you.
Also finally able to get my beatdown right.. took forever to get use to that bumper.
Have to get use to the DMR .. but I am used to the FAL which rewards trigger happy behaviour where as bungie says no place your shots. The beam guy is really cool, nade launcher is great.
I noticed with this new method of ranking, doesn't make me wanna do better to get a better number(I got it up to 1600 playing a string of newb games. Whereas in the old halo 3 lone wolves I recall striving really hard to get to level 35 and then finding I was unable to play well enough to keep advancing. Damn you 50, I wanted to be a general!
All in all its pretty good. I look forward to playing as an elite though. They are cool.
I love it... very pleased with the beta! I'd stopped playing halo (or the xbox at all...) out of boredom, but I love the new armor abilities! Excellent touch, that.
Now, I think my TV is a bit too small... the font is barely readable! But I'm loving it
Armor lock (AL) is my fav ability. I'd hate to think how crap the game would be if everyone used it.
Its perfect for poorer player like me, some one shooting you? AL and see where they are.. he threw a nade AL. Sword/hammer dude AL.
Instead of like in cod were assists are worth gak, in the beta they are worth equal to kills which promotes team play not to mention if you run in a pack which I've learnt to do now you do a lot better because of the inability of spawn weapons to kill quickly.
Anyone hardcore enough to be in a division yet? Im not as it uses true skill.. haha.
I've not been too impressed with AL - I keep on going to use it, getting half way through the wind up phase and then dying, or the AL not engaging (even when I have full power reserve) and then drying, etc.
And I can't even count the number of times I have just waited for someone in AL to just run out of power before either assassinating them or piling grenades around them for when they run out of power.

I dunno its not like Im good.. 1614 was todays rating.. But I often see people die waiting for me to un armor.
It is really reliant on team mates to help you out and capitalize.. So if your whole team are jet pack lone wolves, then well it won't work as often. But when I was following my team and they were footsloggers it was awesome.
I'm not saying it does not have its uses, I am just not a player that finds them very handy - not really my style of play (lurk/stalk and kill).
Feel free to add me (my user name is my GT) and we can compare and contrast
Might not be online much tonight as I am taking my wife out to teach her driving and then going to see Iron Man 2(!), but I may be, and will probably be online tomorrow.
I don't think anyone on here would want to play with me I don't talk ever and I use universal mute to avoid hearing all the BS complaints/insults. It would be like playing with randoms.
I don't mind - I don't tend to talk much unless the people I am with talk too. It is just sometimes cool to play against someone who you kind of know, or at least play against the same people semi-regularly.
Peesonally I agree with silver on the AL thing, I just can't seem to find a use for it, second silver sorry for the screechy guy yesterday, he's a loser.
Shaman wrote:I don't think anyone on here would want to play with me I don't talk ever and I use universal mute to avoid hearing all the BS complaints/insults. It would be like playing with randoms.
I think AL will be good when your using teamwork, if you're fighting someone and your teammate is close by, that's when AL becomes most useful. Otherwise it's kind of gak.
Stalker Is pretty useful in Stockpile, great fun to sneak over to enemy pile and start moving flags out of the circle.
Played a few games of invasion.. was real confused..
First game I turned off mute so many I would understand what was going on. Game starts with the spartans shooting each other.. lol
I didn't understand that it was basically the elites capturing generators which are like territory. Ithought they had to blow them up with grenades.. lol.
Vehicles appear but I have no idea where.. once they arrive the open ground is my grave.
I think this would be fun with a friend but with some random complainer not so great..
Don't understand why it takes so long to re spawn either...
I wanna fly a damn banshee!
The other version of the game is like capture territory and as it goes more dangerous vehicles appear..
Changed my service tag to feth because of my confusion .. I am noob. (the censor doesn't recognize the euro looks like c.. haha)
I would prefer regular map with vehicles and slayer..
My xbox360 got the red ring of death (as I said before.) but I went to my friends house today and retrieved my GamerTag and played it at his house. It was amazing!!! It kills modern warfare. Plain and simple.
Invasion is great! Everyone's placed in pairs so that you can respawn on your partner, and teamwork is really important. I've played several games today, and did best in one where my whole team was smart enough to use their effing mics.
yakface wrote:
So, any more feedback on Invasion besides Shaman's overall confusion?
I need to live vicariously through others...
Invasion plays very similar to Bad Company 2's "Conquest" gametype. There's two objectives that are the centerpieces for the starting phase(the UNSC generators powering a rudimentary shield system) and the second phase(wherein the Covenant's Elites have to capture the generators that power the shielding on the core of a UNSC NAV-AI), either of which being taken can cause the "invasion" to progress to its next phase.
Once the NAV-AI's casing is cracked, it becomes a CTF styled mission, wherein the Covenant has to run the core from its housing to the waiting Spectre dropship.
Now, here's where things get *really* interesting.
As the phases progress, different loadouts become available(ex: Spartans at the start have a "Scout" loadout, which is an Assault Rifle, Magnum, and 2x Frag Grenades--wherein that loadout in the second phase becomes the "Point Defense" loadout. The "Marksman" loadout, which is a DMR and a Frag Grenade at the start becomes the "Recon Marksman", adding in a Magnum and another Frag), weapon caches are unlocked, and vehicles come into play(starting with a Wraith and a Ghost v. a Warthog in the second phase--with the Warthog backed by Spartans on the ground with Rocket Launchers and a single Spartan Laser ).
As Cheese mentioned, you're split into rudimentary Fireteams(it seems Spartans have Fireteams of two--which makes sense as that's how the Spartans tended to break up their operations anyways--and Elites have Fireteams of 2-4 depending on the phase). You can spawn directly on your teammates, provided they're out of combat. Your teammates receive a warning that one of their Fireteam is wanting to spawn on them, but can't due to them being in combat--so they can get out of combat and provide you a leap right into the action.
All in all--I like Invasion.
And not just because I pegged a Wraith with a Spartan Laser from across the map and hit it at an oblique enough angle to have the shot keep travelling and kill 5 more Elites.
8) at that last comment, and I found it quite like BC2 aswell, tip if you guys want fun and don't care about winning, let them have the first one or 2 if your spartans, then the last fight is extremely fun, I'm doing that right now while I'm typing!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Nearly warrant officer grade 1 now! I'm addicted to this game, last match played as elites won with a 13 kills no deaths streak!!
I found my first Invasion match to be much like Shaman's, It was pretty confusing and I had no idea what the feth was going on. The Elites team seemed to know what they were doing more, so they took our front generator thingys.
I should also say I am biased against objective games. And I was unable to get any vehicles (except one ghost) during my games.. So to me that mode is gak. Because I nub at it.
I have played 127 games of the beta I think I'm bored now.
I'll still get the game when it comes out.. campaign should be pretty awesome.. and regular arena slayer with more maps would be cool.
Phase 3 seems really, really hard for the Elites. The Spartans have easy access to a Scorpion, sniper rifles and splasers, so they can counter all of your vehicles and hang back while picking you off. It needs a lot of teamwork, something that half the people I play with seem to lack.

That's kind of the point.
If the Elites were able to get to Phase 3, then there's a teamwork imbalance in regards to the Spartans v. Elites.
Agreed about the banshee, I like the weapon change ability though. New controls suck however, prefer old ones, can't even put my finger on whats different, it just is.
scarskull5 wrote:Agreed about the banshee, I like the weapon change ability though. New controls suck however, prefer old ones, can't even put my finger on whats different, it just is.
I still keep on hitting the wrong buttons - blown myself up a couple of times with grenades rather than reloading/getting into vehicles/picking up guns
Not sure if I've already mentioned this but if you hop over to the controls menu you can change to recon controls which are practically the same as halo 3 controls, just grenade swap is X and ability is LB. Also for anybody who's wondering theres no dual wield anymore, sadly. :/
Havent been on in a few days (MW2 addiction again)
I take it there are some new things about now?
Also, if you want to complain about controls, try running bumper jumper on H3, then going to the new setup lol.
No button is the same as such :K
About my only piss off with reach is the new SWAT system.
With a game like this they need an element of speed, and for me, reach seems slower than H3.
You also need an ability to jump higher.
The whole idea of reach was to add another level of character to the series. however, they have nerfed SWAT with the baby jumps. (ever had to nade jump onto a ledge? have to do that alot more often now, and in SWAT, you die if you dont do it right lol)
Invasion is so fun but it's also so anoying because half the people on your teams don't have mics or your partners in a party, I kind of hope that bungie put the mic setting to what modern waarfare 2 has.
If anybody want's a game GT is same as username say your from here or i'll just ignore it.
Invasion is to easy and the objectives to straight forward IMO. I prefer slayer.. the Invasion objectives are just too boring. camp here for 20sec, camp there for 20 sec, now ctf.
I want something completely different not just more of the same...
I love stockpile. Great new gametype. Also, SvE is interesting, although I got stuck as Elites every single time. Not complaining though, we showed those puny UNSC soldiers who the real power in the universe is! :p
Also: Focus Rifle? Awesome. I love the sound it makes. And the fear it causes when an enormous laser starts pounding you from half a map away...
Pvt. Jet wrote:Also: Focus Rifle? Awesome. I love the sound it makes. And the fear it causes when an enormous laser starts pounding you from half a map away...
My favorite weapon is also the focus rifle. Reminds me of the Quake Lightning gun.
