Hi
I want to know, what do you think about my painting skills, so i resolve to start this topic. I hope you like it.
First, minis which i want to paint in near future.
As you can see:
- Grey Seer
- Plague Priest
- Sentinel (renegade)
- 4 Sanguinary Guard (+1, which is painted)
- 2 (will be 5) Death Company made from ass squad troops and sanguinary guard bits
- 2 free Mantic ghouls
- 3 Tau pathfinders with Drone (devilfish is in pieces)
- IG commissar with PF and book
As a fellow ork collector I can say your black orcs-nobs looks really, realy good. I love the way you kepp skin and armour smooth and simple. The skin is especially good - you archieved this "organic" fell that is hard to get righ when painting non-humans.
Even if you left them untouched and call them finished just now... they´d still look gret.
Seriously, that's one of the ugliest (best) ork skin schemes I've seen. My hat's off to you sir. Mind sharing the recipe?

thx, no problemo
Skin
1. Goblin Green & Iyanden Darksus (2:1) - base skin color
2. Sunbrust Yellow, Goblin Green & Chaos Black (4:2:1), about 3 layers
3. Wash made from Blood Red, Adnrea Color 3th shadow, Enchanted Blue & Sunburst Yellow (4:2:1:1)
4. Thraka Green wash
5. Final layers (to highlight) using mixs of Goblin Green, Sunburs Yellow and black
Nose, tongue and scar
1. Mechrite Red & Blood Red & Skull White
2. Baal Red wash
3. A few layers of Blood Red & Enchanted Blue (more blue-shadow, more red-highlight)
I was experimenting so it is. Maybe next time i figure out simplest method.
Best black armour I've seen
I just add some blue to black paint, it looks more realistic.
Best Ork skin I've seen
thx, i can't paint realistic human face (only thing i can do is white primer and 2xgryphonne sepia wash) but ork's fits me perfect. Tomorrow i can show you my old ork face, painted on white primer.
Looking great dude, consider me subbed, any way you could share how you've done the weathering? My Khador jacks would benefit hugely from it when I get them.
I find your style interesting, the dark, muddy, textured colors vs the sudden super saturated brights that are much less nuanced than the dark in terms of tone range.
It is almost like 2 diff people are painting parts of the model, but like I said, it's a very interesting style!
m.ike: I really like you're work. It's understated, which is rare in 40k painting and very refreshing. Your orks are gritty without being hopelessly dirty.... like that too. Lab rat is fantastic. Please keep sharing, it's giving me lots of ideas & things to think about.
I can say without a doubt that these are the best-looking orcs I've seen yet. Using black orcs came out really well, I'm surprised I haven't seen it more often to be honest. Their armor looks perfect with 40k, and their massive chain weapons unify the overall look of the models so that there is no confusion which game they are for.
However, the painting style is really "where it's at." You've acheived such a gritty yet realistic appearance...it's how I imagine orks would look if they actually existed. The highlighting and other details are very subtle that it takes the entire model to get the overall feeling, but it's amazing when you do. Keep up this great work, I would love to see an entire army of these guys!
Armor on the last pics is still wip. Base color is mix of Andrea 3th shadow (from black paint set) and blue (enchanted blue). This :dark gray: is MiG dust pigment . Highlights on armor was made using SW gray.

I still must repair some things, but it is something like this
Dude seriously. Not even funny how awesome these orks are, I'm jut thinking how awesome an army of Black templars would look with that kind of black armour !
I would just like to point out how much i hate you,,, i mean it I really hate you dude,,,, thats the nicest orks i have ever seen and the idea with the water is really nice i just wish you had made it 2-3mm deeper... outstanding mini's and once again,,,,,,,,,
I like the way you did the shoulder pads, it look extremely realistic. I like the colour you chose for the killer khan (is that right?). Keep up the awesome work
With the skaven (rat ogre?) looks a little like the fur is getting lost in the bandages, maybe a touch lighter with the fur there? May just be because the pic is focused on the head, may look fine (or more likely better than fine ) when viewing the whole model.
I had problems with my camera (battery charger) and i couldnt make any pics. I finished most of my stuff but because of bad pics, today i'm showing only few things.
your work is real impressive. I love the colors you chose for the orks, they look realistic. I also really like the weathering on the armor and in partiular the sentinel. Great work!
I love the flat colors !!! read through a bit (and sorry if I missed some), but what line of paints do you use. The flat effect is real hard to achieve with GW and Valejo paints .... I am curious and would love to know.
Bleh, i have problem with internet (only hotspot connection) and i cant (and dont have time) make GOOD photo. I know that pic is bad, but is background good?
How do you make your space marines have such a brilliant worn look to them. Everything you paint has such a nice tone to it. I love the charcoal color armor on the orcs, but the Sanguinary guard marine is such a great looking piece. Can you share your technique?
Something Charcoal grey (urban, but dark asphalt, not light concrete), Green (nice classic static grass etc) or terracotta (red-rock arizona style) would really be the best colors to make the blue glow. Sand, light grey etc would work too of course, but not as strongly i.m.o
That's terrifying m.ike! (also brilliant) The bell is phenomenal too! Your painting skills are masterful... please keep updating... really tremendous work.
The screaming bell is just plain awesome.
I like the idea of a red rock base for the dread.
I think I prefered the greenish skin on the ogryn, and once again the weathering just blows me away.
Gorgeous looking GK there. I can't think of anything to say about the weathering that I haven't said already, I'll have to start learning how to say awesome in a variety of languages
Also that 3-barreled weapon, is that from the GK kit?
Alright M.ike, I'm afraid I am going to have to insist on a step by step tutorial on how you do flat armor, how you do flesh and how you do cloth.
I take it glazing or filters are a big part of your technique, what exactly are you using? oils? glaze medium? plain watered paint? how are you achieving the tiny scratched on the armor surfaces? Scratches mind you, not chipping...
Awesome stuff, just going through this thread from 1st page to 5th, your work has improved by 10X, it's crazy how rapidly you are progressing.
Absolutely incredible! Those are probably the coolest looking Grey Knights I've ever seen. How did you do the metal? I was trying to do something similar for my marines.
I think it's impossible to explain how I've painted them...
Black basecoat, Mithril Silver and then many, many, many red, black and orange glazes (GW paints). For scratches I've used Vallejo Air silver and 000 brush from W&N Series 7.
Breathtaking work m.ike, such an individual style you have with all of your models I am particularly fond of your grey knights! you have conveyed a real sense of weight to the armour and have weathered it without it looking dilapidated or rusty! a very fine skill to have in your painting repitoire! I also really like the paint on your storm raven, it's a great job as well and if anyone needs some inspiration (myself included) we'll be coming right here! :-)
I have used your tiny scratches style to good effect on my Stormraven, pics should be up this week. Thanks very much for the inspiration and the pleasure of seeing your great work!
No! I'm really unable to judge this mini on my own.
This is first, from 5 termis, I want to make each in different color scheme. I can't finish my 3 dreadnoughts, coz I'm still waiting for my PRO(!) airbrush from China (19$ with shipping) xD.
Thanks for comments, I'm paining it right now, hope I can show finished work tomorrow.
If I could suggest one thing, it would be to add a bit more grime between the green and metal armor edging, as tonally they are quite similar, at least in the pics. It would help differentiate the surfaces and borders a bit.
May just be the pics though, the specular shine IRL probably makes them quite distinct!
I want to buy really pro airbrush (about 150$) but my white stormraven has missed in warp and I'm poor right now
I should get it this week, so I can make little review.

You sir, are a god among men. I just can't figure out how you make everything look so realistic!?
If I ever meet you I will steal your soul just to gain your painting skills.
These termies look amazing. And actually, I think the NMM looks pretty solid, even if not your finest attempt. Are you just using super glue for the cobwebs?
STOP IT YOU GIT!
Your making us look terrible Seriously I loved the armour so much I didn't even notice the AMAZING skin. Rather jealous, Most definitely subbed, please marry me?
Ok, I think I've finished practicing with brush, I understand the contrast thing better. It's time to return to my weathering and airbrush techniques.
I have for you WiP from tomorrow, airbrush job (yes, this 19$ one), about 3 hours of painting (work during second Pirates of the Caribbean).
I would love to see a step by step from you, that BA looks incredible, I am not usually a fan of the pinkish highlight on red, but yours looks amazing and done just right.
Is the highlighting pattern on the chest a happy accident of Zenithal style, or did you expressly darken the upper chest under the collar?
Great Gorkamorka I love your work! very nicely done, that's a lot of w.i.p's that need finishing soon for the thread! hint hint :-) love the BA he's looking sweet as!
would you consider selling me that commisar?? I love it the paint job (though I'd prefer the bolt pistol model) PM me for costs for you to paint me one of them if you're willing spectacular. And I would like to see you try your hand at more IG actually...
Looks really nice! I really like the contrast from dark to light on the highlights. I take it that is just done with an airbrush the edged with a brush in some areas? I really want to get better with my airbrush as I use it mainly for base-coating at the moment, if you have any pointers that would be great
MajorTom11 wrote:Do you have a costlist you could post? I am sure a lot of people would be quicker to commision you with that info in hand to help them plan jobs -
Skin on DE = awesome btw! As always, really enjoy seeing your stuff M.ike
Wow, there appears to be some very nice space wolves cropping up at the moment! this is a damn fine example of how they should look! well done m.ike! well done i say!
now please continue to wow us! or should that be w.ow us?
The blood on that powerfist is simply amazing :O
Everything you make is just brilliant. Not joking here, but i think you are the best painter I have ever seen, and that nurgle terminator was just... *mind explodes*
