how did you model the slime from the rear of the blight drone? i just picked up three of them and im looking at doing something similar

Post by: davetaylor
Hi guys
Thanks for the kind words. Those Blight Drone models are indeed awesome.
@ studderingdave - the slime/poop out the back of the Drone is greenstuff, built up over paperclip armatures. The stream of poop is greenstuff over a brass rod that goes up into the Drone and bends underneath the base. Then the whole thing was painted with a mix of browns and greens and given a layer of 'Ardcoat to finish it off.
Anyway, here are some new pictures of my finished Command Squads, I hope you like them.
Company Command
Platoon Command
Company Standard Bearer
Officer of the Fleet
As usual, there are a few more pics on my blog, link in my signature.

Nice. The yellow accents work really well, and I love the red shading. Nice banners, too -- lively, vivid, but not so busy that they pull focus from the figures themselves.

great job on the command squad, just one nitpick: the blacklining on the banner is very stark, compared to the smooth freehand. a dark brown would have looked a tiny bit better, imo.

Just read through this thread, this is a wonderful army project! You've realised some of the most memorable baddies from the Gaunt's Ghosts series marvellously.
The Mantis/Stalk Tank is outstanding; you might like to know that at the EPIC community over at Tactical Command ( http://www.tacticalwargames.net/forums/index.cgi) someone is talking about making an Epic scale version of this model...
Looking forward to seeing the rest of this army develop!

Hi guys
Thanks very much. I'm very happy with how the army is coming along. I'll be taking a break from the infantry until I finish off the tanks for the Battlefoam GT. To answer a few specifics:
@Gitsmack - hopefully we can get in a game. I'm also hoping to bring out the Stalk Tank, Romeo is doing some custom foam for me so we'll see if it all fits ; )
@ The Mighty Warhamster - Good critique on the black. I don't actually do any blacklining, just paint over black undercoat, but in this case I have definitely left too much black showing. Thanks.
@ firestorm - can you point me to the particular topic? I'd love to read it but the tacticalwargames forums are very involved and in depth. I'm having trouble tracking it down.
Cheers

Sorry Dave, you can see it here, towards the bottom of the page - someone has even put forward your very own Mantis tank scratchbuild as the basis: http://www.tacticalwargames.net/forums/index.cgi?act=ST;f=7;t=16593;st=40

Your reds are also very well done. I know how hard it is to do reds on guardsmen and it's not as easy as it is on a Space Marine.

A really fantastic aesthetic to this force. The entire thing just seems to work so effortlessly. Great color choice all around.
I really like the Master of the Fleet, more people need to do stand in's like this. And the big jagged hunk of metal the Platoon Commander is using as a weapon reeks of savagery.

Great stuff as always Dave.
How quick are you turning these guys out now?
I like the yellow cannisters as a continuous theme, it adds a bit of interest and a nice shot of colour. I'd like to see the yellow be a little paler and more rusted up, but otherwise, great stuff.
Can we trouble you for an army shot at some point?

I just stumbled across this blog while looking for inspiration for my new Guard army, and it blew me away. I've been a huge (but silent) fan of your work for quite a while now, and I have to say that this is probably my favorite I've seen. It might have something to do with my love for Dan Abnett's work, and the intersection of two of my favorite artists, of course.
I'll be eagerly following both this and your blog from now on. I can't wait to see more!

Also, good job on your Fulgrim version Will you be painting him as well?

Hi guys
Thanks for your continuing support. I'm glad you're all still checking things out, even though I've been a bit slack on getting Dakka updates sorted.
@FoxPhoenix135 - Yep, they were my dulcet tones you heard on 40K Radio. Nerve-wracking as hell ; )
@Shane - as a fellow Abnett fan I'm excited about being able to intersect more with his work.
@Flachzange - thanks mate, I have just finished painting Fulgrim and he'll go up in the next post, and off to my client tomorrow.
Anyway, here are the latest pics. I was asked to post a full army shot, but I don't really have a suitable setup for that sort of thing just yet. I've split the army into three groups.
The Infantry
The Vehicles
And the Apocalypse-only models

You, good sir, are a scholar and a gentleman.
I don't have corel myself, so I can't check it. Also, since I was printing on 6" by 12" sheets of plasticard, some of the bits from the first page are on the second page so that they would fit. Also, be careful to line it up properly, and the small vision slits are prone to warp as they are such small pieces, but they can be put back into shape using a bit of hot water.
Thanks once again.

@Empchild - the armor on my regular troopers is drybrushed with Tin Bitz, followed by a drybrush of Boltgun Metal, then a patchy wash of Thraka Green, a patchy wash of Leviathan Purple, followed by a wash of Devlan Mud, then Badab Black. All of that is finished off with an edging of Mithril Silver. Hope that helps.

And side by side with the Locust, a vector-fighter that Thomas Wynn and I are designing and building using the fins from Space Marine Drop Pods
And a shot of the Locust WIP by itself
I hope you all like them, more shots on my blog.
