I'm actually very excited to put up a pic of the assembled Zoanthrope. It just happens to be my first attempt at any sort of base that is more than just a plain black circle.

My only suggestion would be to maybe tilt it slightly (head if still seperate, whole body if not) so it doesn't appear to be looking straight down? Unless there's going to be a cowering guardsman down there.

I might just do that, but bare in mind that the metal Zoeys that GW makes look as though they are searching for something on the ground too.

What gets me about the head sculpt is how uniform and smooth it is. The ridges, and sections of the plates is great, and the additions of the minor imperfections and cracks sells it totally. You've got real skill, and I'm jealous as hell

@Vent- That means a ton to me! I've been trying real hard to get better with things like GS and believe me it has not always been fun, nor has it always had the best results!

Make him more dead. The zoanthrope actually looks threatened there. At point blank range, a bolt would be able to kill it. Might as well give him a plsama pistol !

If I may make a suggestion?
Green-stuff over its eyes. Zoanthropes shouldn't need to see, they should know where everything is by their incredible psychic force.
And when you paint the marine? Either pin-point pupils or huge pupils, to give it a feel of something messing with his head, rather than a last valiant stand against the bug.

@Kristen.. I mean Samus- I don't want him to look too dead. I'm shooting for a showdown feel to the base. I've learned that at anypoint in the game my zoeys could suffer the wrath of my terrible save rolls and very well end up popped!

Just a small heads up. Playing a 2000 point game tomorrow so I will do my best to get some pics for an actual bat rep. Maybe...

Idea

The Zone is controlling the Smurfs mind and forcing him to turn the pistol on himself but he is resisting with his other hand. (because you havent invested enough time into this model yet)

The other arm is hard to see I know, but it is reaching out for the chainsword that I made but have not put beside him yet. Good idea though.

@Arakasi- He does indeed it just isnt on yet. Still very much a wip. There are a few more pcs to it that are not in the pics yet.

I ask because I have noticed that Marines with backpacks really don't like to lie flat! The Marine on my Big Mek base has a cut down back pack (just the top really), whilst I am thinking of going completely without for my swap with Gitsplitta...

I was just curious whether he had one (didn't look like it), whether he would have one, and how you were going to deal with that lump of plastic without changing the current dynamic if he did

There in lies the issue friend. If I add the backpack it all looks a little..off. I'm thinking I might make it broken nearby. The only issue is that the base is only so big. I may make a second one on a carnifex base or even a mini diorama. he das a chainsword that he is reaching for that just doesnt fit on the base and that makes me sad because that scene as a whole looks soooo much better with all the pcs.

If its any consolation - the pic still looks good without the backpack. How does it look in real life?

@Arakasi- In reality it looks like the marine is trying to pop a few shots off while thrying like hell to get out from under the Zoanthrope.

@Samus_Kristen_aran115- I picked those legs because they make the marine look like he is scrambling backwards. Thanks to my lovely 2 year old son for giving me that idea.

Sorry - I got that - how does it look in real life modeling wise without the back pack attached? Good? Bad? Cool? Noticeably missing a backpack? As I said - it looks good in the picture (and I'm planning on doing something similar, though the Marine will be definitely dead... oh, and with an Ork not a Zoey of course - but I am hoping the lack of back pack won't be detracting...)

I think it looks good without the pack. I personally notice it isn't there and it bugs me a bit but most of my friends think it looks great.

Just to slide a comment in here on the backpack
Personally I've found space marines look to damn bulky when they have the full armor and backpack whilst lying down...A good alternative I've used is one or the other, with either the backpack or the back of the chest plate, so you're basicly only using two (rather than three) pieces for his torso. It can make for some difficulties glueing on arms but that's nothing a little GS doesn't fix!

@Superscenic- I'm not really sure how to respond to that I promise though its a matter of not wanting to drop $20 on a metal piece that IMHO doesnt look very dynamic. The only downside is that now that I have one fully assembled and 3 more in various stages of WIP is now I need to buy more warriors... I'm pretty sure in the long run I still saved $$ since the warriors i had were from trades here on Dakka

Man I hate this lag glitch.

A good majority of my force got shipped out yesterday to a gentelmen down in Arkansas in exchange for what will become my younger brother's Salamanders army. I'ts going to take me a bit to rebuild the bulk of my force but it's totally worth it to get my little bro jumpstarted into this wonderful game! I will however try and get photos of whats left of my buggies.

It just looks like a warrior with a REALLY big head is leaping onto him to NomNom his brains...

I think thats a good thing tho, the Zoans allways looked like they should be toughness -6 with a 7+ save. Tonys looks like it could actaully do something physically and mentally.

I see that too at times... One thing that always bugged (no pun intended) me about the Tyranid fluff. After a world is picked clean of all the yummies everything gets redigested, including the forces, and sucked up really big nasty straws into the hive ships. I know I'm paraphrasing...badly but bare with me I do have a point. If Zoanthropes are NomNomed back up like everything else and reproduced right before being pooped back down on a planet than why are their bodies stricken with atrophy? They were just "born" so it seems to me that their bodies wouldn't have time to go completely to and look so completely scrawny. I do agree that they are a bit bulky in spots but I don't want them to look like a strong breeze will cause them to topple or float away

but other than that... Loving your stuff man!

I'm really glad you like it! Also I really do appreciate the insight on the bodies. It would really get old if no one ever gave me ideas or genuine thoughts. I am well aware that not every idea I have is a winner. Just look at the garbage on page one....nevermind DONT! I would like to pretend that the first page or so didn't exist

@WM360- Thanks man! I really like Zoeys and I hate that they are really just not that intimidating (the aforementioned strong breeze malarky) I'm not a fan of the standard floating totemn pole look, nothing against totemn poles or anything.

I am so sorry that nothing has been updated recently but it has been a bit of a madhouse here! That and I've started the process of making a SM chapter I have not been working on the hive fleet much recently but I am having a bit of a mental block as to how to continue on... The issue is mostly a lack of time. I know I know, "But Tony, you have time to work on your new SM chapter and the objective marker swap, why not the Nids too?" To answer that fairly I respond simply by saying and I'll get back to the bugs soon I promise!
