I might try sculpt a small lizard or snake now

I'm just sharing (some of) my ideas with people
Every diorama including nidz, needs humor.

You should make a Finecast diorama. We could meet up at Gamesday I'm going for a mounted chaos lord diorama.

GD UK? Why not lol, I should be going i think.

btw, liking the rank slugga, reading horus rising and literally just got to that chapter

Little update, nothings totally finished being painted, I've got my final design for the ceiling and roof and begun the foundations, and yes...... each one of them leaves is going to be painted. nobody is allowed near my desk or penalty of death is there lol. took too lonk to lay them out for painting to have anyone even breath them away.

The wash on the interior paving wasnt fully dry which is why its slighlty glossy.

The brass rod will be the support for the hive tyrant (it will be cut when i come to attach the tyrant), its going to be hidden by some tyranid growths.

I've also tried to create a variation in coulors for the path of the stream as in a jungle environment it tends to be full of rotting matter and bacteria and tends to tinge things orange hues and greens with algea. Deadfall will also be in the bottom of the stream.

Actually, when I take a second look at the dirt... Make it a small bit lighter... Then you can make the flora even lighter, so that the models appear to be darker.

The dirt still needs highlighting/drybrushing in two stages, then weathering powders to soften it. but i wont apply the powders until ive done the groundwork other side of the diorama (only holding off as i havent sculpted the tree roots and structure.

If my camera decides to work tonight, ill take pics of the roof, its now painted to the point where i need to weather it. Moss, algea stains (trying to go for the effect where water runs down a wall over a long period of time) then put some Ivy, fallen leaves and maybe a dead vine on

Slow but continuos progress at the moment

The roof could use some more weathering, but everything else looks great

WIP - D.Smiths Multiple Diorama Blog  @ 2011/09/07 15:51:19

Post by: D.Smith

The roof is still going to have weathering powders added, adwell as the odd broken vine, a little bit of ivy and dead leaves
The only truly "finished" bit is the water even though i know ill end up changing and improving bits as i go

Thanks for the suggestions guys

Im concentrating on my jungle dio untill its finished, im going to keep working on the base untill its finished, then move onto the Flyrant.

Im still debating whether to still use the Tau Crisis to make it a duel situation, or have good ol' marines reacting to a landing hive tyrant.
Whatever ends up being in the standoff its being painted/converted last of all.

Tyranid Hive Tyrant vs. Tau Firewarriors?
You can really show cool Camo themes on them.

Imagine a Stealth team in Jungle colours, and only bright lights giving them away. And a Hive tyrant with Brownish carapace, and extremely colourful body (like jungle bugs).

(then a ripper eating the lizard )

WIP - D.Smiths Multiple Diorama Blog  @ 2011/09/08 12:27:15

Post by: D.Smith

Haha, a small brainstorm has just come over me

Ive got an imaginary action clip that im going to try to capture;

-Tyrant drops through a gap in the canopy to confront the intruders

-2 pathfinders with a drone panic, and run for the butress roots of the trees to use as cover

-The crysis suit (in a semi-terminator style display of deffiance) brings up the big guns and puts down fire to cover them as they get to cover.

i think with some simple re-posing i could make some interesting mid-sprint to cover warriors/pathfinders to add a bit of drama to the dio?

Everything right now is awesome, except you can blend the highlights on the leaves a bit more.

Is the mini project base from plasticard?

Going for the obvious, the base off a trygon?

Post by: D.Smith

I dont expect anyone to guess to be honest its the base cut from the FW Hive tyrant, its responsible for me doing this mini peice, sorted through my bitz box and realised it would make a nice vignette/mini diorama base.

Nearly finished the base, just need to paint the severed limb from the casualty thats going to be on the base. im quite happy with the way the blood splatter has turned out. Its how i imagine the agtermath of a chainsword anyway

Sorry about the photo's ill take some in natural light when i can.

All C&C welcome

The blood looks pretty realistic to me. It could have been darker for the feeling of the "Grim Darkness of the Future", but I guess the guy the blood comes from has lived a healthy life.
