I had to join simply because of this thread...I've been coming to this site for years, just trolling, looking at models, tactics and armies...
My most annoying moment had to be when the Tau were first released, I was playing my buddy ( whom had gotten a tau army, I was playing Tyranids ) .. a squad of 5 Fire Warriors killed my charging Lictor in CC, not losing a single model.
Or when I took my girlfriend ( whom happens to be really hot ) with me to the local place where they do tournies here...you'd think the Emperor had just walked in the way they were googling at her.. people kept coming up introducting themselves as if she actually cared...telling her what armies they played and why.. of course she had no clue what they were talking about. The local place is full of the 'Walking Stereotype' gamers...all overweight, in their mid 30's and 40's, single, don't shower, socially awkward... it was a very akward experience for us both!

the most annoying thing easily to me is reteaching my girl friend's unit's stats. Every game i play she forgets what her mandrakes stats are, her kabilites roll to hit, it just sucks. No offense amanda.

I was setting up to play a match at the local store and chatting it up with a kid who suddenly drifts off mid sentence, he doesn't look quite right and sweating really heavily and I noticed he's hanging on the edge of the table with a white nuckle death grip. Just as I'm about to ask if he's ok he projectile vomits into my open minis case. Trying to brace himself up he leans on the table and the folding leg buckles and dumps him and all our minis on the floor. I'm like did this seriously just happen?
The kid gets taken to the hospital (we later learn he had food poisoning) the manager and I end up spending an hour washing the armies off in the store sink and he gives me a new case so I have something clean to take my minis home in. I never did get any games in that night and was a pretty horrible event.
The second worst moment was playing a game at my house, my templars vs my friends orks. We're using my dining table so it's slightly smaller than a standard table I go first and roll my landraider forward shooting at his Kan, first shot of the game pops the Kan and it explodes, as he hasn't moved it's in the middle of his army and the blast hits 3 differant units killing about 30 of his boyz, and his only powerclaws. (other than the boss)
It was pure luck, but he completely flips out as he no longer has anything he can damage my two landraiders with and starts throwing his models all over my living room. I ask him wtf are you doing? and he responds by starting to smash the remaining models with his rules book. He starts pounding his metal ork boss so hard it tears through the back cover of his book and totally marrs up the table. All his rage was fortunately only directed at his stuff but needless to say that was the last time he was ever invited over to play.

I hope that dining table was not an antique, or I'd have been raising hell myself. How does someone act like that as a guest in their friends own home?

I used to play with a guy who made up rules and said they were in rulebooks you didn't have, then he would say you couldn't look at those books because that was cheating. He also said that any model in any squad could target any model in any other squad. He would then target all your flamers because he thought that was a "gay" term.

the worst time i have ever had wargaming (barring everytime i go into GW and suffer the man smell) was when i was playing 40K at a local club and a new chap arrived, he seemed a little odd but as they say "dont judge a book...". however my assumption was very wrong, he was not a "little odd" he was a full blown nutcase! he spent about 1/2 an hour talking to his models and squad devising his plans cackling with delight and declaring he had already won as him and his army were "one". anyways by turn 3 i had just about tabled his chaos marine with full blown IG battle cannon power (i could have played easy but he just me off so i went all out). the most annoying part was when he failed an armour save, took a wound or even rolled less than needed he would shout and scream and go beserk, i dont know why i continued to play but needless to say due to his language and attitude he was banned. i also found out that he is banned from every Gw in the country because he punched the Gw truro manager.

Not antique, I had the table for about a year so it was pretty new which is what steamed me really bad. Not sack kicking him for his behavoir was a huge effort of self restraint. He is the worst power gamer I know and terribly sore loser. While it was definately one of his biggest jerk moves he's done simular things before which is why people avoid him like the plague (justifiably) I've seen people pack up their stuff and leave when he walks in the door, I used to feel sorry for him but not anymore. I've joined the long list of people that refuse to play him.

this made me tick, a man (not kid) was playing with my models during a game, we ask him to stop, he carries on playing with our models, we ask again and he still keeps touching and fiddling with our models and i and my opponent had to ask him to leave our board and go do something else, still didn't listen, he finally left when a store worker came over and asked him to move, earlier in the week he was sent out for completly rearranging the starter board.

Playing a 500 pt game when I was 12 at GW.
Played against a nid player who seemed to have a few too many models on the table. I asked to see his army list and everything was on there, so fair enough carried on with the game.
One of the store assistants walks up and has a similar quiry to myself. Looks at his army list and it turned out he has 'cheapened' everything.
He had 800 points worth on the table and compared to my 500 of necrons, this wasn't looking good for me.
So I went away feeling cheated, needless to say I've now read up on point costs.

It's in my sig. That actually happened. Was playing my Black Crusade CSM against my buddy's 'Nids. My unit of Chaos Terminator Champions w/ Mark of Khorne was trying to hack their way through a very annoying tarpit of Termagaunts so they could finally stomp on the even more annoying Doom of Malan'tai Zoanthrope my buddy had just "podded" onto the table the turn before. The Terminators raged through the brood but didn't wipe it out the turn before and had suffered a few losses to an insane amount of saving throws I had to make. However, there were only 5 of them left and once the Terminators broke free they would be in position to blast away at (and with luck assault) the DoM.
So yeah. 9 hits, wounding on a 2 up... nothing.
My friend looked at me and said (as quoted) "Dude, your dice suck."

After a while, when he broke a nice, kind customer's Leman Russ tank by dropping it, the staff told him he was banned from the store for a month and should take the time to think about his behaviour.
Well, Jordan wasn't having this. He ran to the modeling table to enact some sort of bitter revenge. Sadly there was naught to destroy.
But look! Paints! So Jordan reaches for a pot of Ultramarines Blue and flips the cap. Everyone steps back, fearing the pigment will fly. And then...

No, I don't know why, either. But he laughs, and runs for the door, through a sea of people frozen into inaction through confusion.
He get to the door and falters, stumbles. "I..... I don't feel well...."
We watch in silence as he staggers a few steps and clutches his stomach. He looks for a bin to throw up in. He finds none. Which leads to one of the most surreal moments of my life.
I watch a young lad sobbing quietly as he throws up blue-tainted vomit and bitter bile time and time again into the slot of an unfortunate Royal Mail postbox.
Then his mum came to collect him.

So stupid that the guy tried to pull mephiston in a honour guard at a tourney...
This formation is actually allowed. In the BA Army List it states you can take 1 unit of Honour Guard per HQ choice. Seeing as Mephiston is a HQ I see no problem with this.

I've only played five games and only once had a problem. I play Eldar and the guy I was facing had Necrons, it was turn five and I was to go first but I got a call from the girlfriend saying I'm outside, hurry up. I realised I only had one squad of 10 guardians and a squad of Banshees left and he still had about 20 destroyers and heavy destroyers left, so I conceded.
He got in a mood with me and tried to keep me playing by rolling for me. I tried to shake his hand again but he refused, I think he was just trying to humiliate me infront of the people watching -shrugs-.

While not the most annoying moment of my wargaming life, last week proved to be incredibly annoying... My FLGS started a new escalation league and I was paired up with one of those guys who is only 1/2 paying attention to the game. I was playing mech'ed necrons while he was playing a Tau broadside list.
While I'm perfectly happy to walk a new player through the rules, this gentleman has been playing long enough for me not to baby him. So rather than putz around I speed through my turns pretty quickly (4 models on the board doesn't take long). My opponent was largely unconcerned with watching what was happening during my turns but somewhere around the bottom of turn 2 he announces that I've been cheating. I ask how, and he responds that I've been counting select failures as success on key roles. Now I use opaque white dice with black dots, so maybe just maybe he saw wrong... I offer to even re-roll the mediocre average results as this "key role" couldn't of mattered less.
Anyway he proceeds to call me out on cheating twice during the game because he couldn't be bothered to keep up, and I was easy going enough to let him play with an illegal list and allowed him to take back a game losing movement decision.
I could of punched the guy in the face by the end of it...

Well, there is a guy at a WHFB tournament I tend to go to. He is so incredibly WAAC it's just ridicoulus (using the Stubborn banner thing for Daemons of Chaos in 7th edition for instance). He also always try to bend the rules to his favour, a pure rule nazi.
My friend has made him his personal rival, and for some reason, he keeps getting matched up against him, even though opponents are randomized.

There was a kid (well, 17 year old) at my FLGS who soured the Tau for me. My second game he told me that Pulse Rifles rapid-fired at 20', were Strength 7, and AP3. Now, I was playing with the old Guard 'dex, and was brand-new to 5th, so I had no idea what I was doing, and as it was my second game ever, I just took him at his word.
When I wisened up and talked to him about it, he told me "I'm a purple belt in Tiger Shouman's (sp) and I'll kick your butt if you say that again".
I'm a 10-year Dan member in Tang Soo Do, so I found this hilarious. I told him so and he shut up really quickly. He was also the type who cried if he lost, and started blatantly cheating when he was losing. All of his dice had extra dots painted on the 3's and 2's (turning them into 5's and 4's respectively).
It was somewhat gratifying to watch him in an Apoc game, some time later, after he smugly dropped two Eldar Titans on the board. A buddy of mine deep-struck a full pair of Vanguard Veteran squads with Meltabombs in (didn't scatter thanks to a few well-placed Teleport Homers), and Heroic Intervention'd their way into the Titans, killing them both in a single assault.

Sure we have some WAAC players too. However, they usually interpret some rules differently rather than claiming something like " Pulse Rifles rapid-firing at 20' with Str-7 and AP-3". I just don't understand why these weirdos were allowed in a store in the first place. Also I don't think anyone will ever have the nerve do something like that:
Flaming_Spider wrote:then we hear the distinct sound of liquid under pressure hitting plastic. And the smell!! It was awful. Some guy at a painting table pulls a 2 liter bottle from under the table and sets it down. You can guess what was in that bottle...

Then he started whispering that he liked her...
She gave me a look and I knew it was time to leave or she might kill the guy if I didn't get there first... so we picked up and left without a word.
If this ever happens, in a best case scenario, it would end with that guy dragged of the shop and given a warning of never returning.

Like the others have said, you just have one or two bad apples. The kid I spoke about hasn't come to my FLGS in about two years-ish, and the rest of the community is usually agreeable, good-natured, and good-sporting. Yeah, we've got a small number of power players, but they're not cheaters, just min-maxers to an extent. They're still nice folks, even when they're stomping your teeth in.
That bottle story...just ew. How was he not evicted on the spot? And as for the other guy...he gives normal folks who play wargames (the majority of my FLGS) a bad name. We've only got a single neckbeard to our name (and he's more a metalhead/biker than a neckbeard, anyway).
This kid and one other story are the only negative experiences I've had with my FLGS. The other story involved a pair of troglodytes talking about furries in the open, with little kids milling about. At first I thought it was a joke; I went "hurr, suffer not the furry to live" and went back to my game. I didn't realize that the topic had turned rather risque, and it ended with the store's manager chewing us all out (for good reason, IMO).

This Happened at GW HQ in Lenton, when you could still disembark from a Rhino, shoot and assualt in the same turn.
there were 3 of us, Me playing Khorne marines, my friend (who was on my side) with Dark Eldar combined 3000P.t.s against 3000P.t.s of Imperial guard my other mate had.
It was an excellent game, with everybody having fun, despit the fact we were losing unitil....................
A guy comes along, tells us he has been looking for a game all day and found no one willing. I Hate pick up games and told him our game was organized and full. My friends told me told lighten up and let him in, so my mate put half his imperial guard away. Random guy brought out his new shiney grey night thingies. (they had just come out the week before)
He the proceeded to orbital bombard me 3 times every turn, when he destroyed my Land Raider he said it exploded and destroyed eveything within 6".
i was getting anoyed, but carried on 'cus my friends seemed to be having fun, though by this point it had turned into 2 games, my friends battle each other and me and random guy.
finally my rhinos were within rang to disembark my berzerkrs and assualt his line. as i get my models out he informs me that only 5 models fit in a rhino. when i contested him het picks up one of my rhinos and a berzerker and says ' do you really think 10 of these would fit in a rhino?' and he 'showed me' that only 5 models would fit in it, yet his razorback held 10??? i didn't even show him the codex i just packed up and went to the bugmans bar.
A brilliant fun game ruined by a random guy.
Another time i was in the same place trying to buy 2 obliterators. The same random guy came up to me and told me i should buy 3 as that makes a unit.
Now......
I left with no obliterators and an escort of 2 burly shop staff.
Nobody tells me how to spend MY money.

What really ticked me off was when my LGS was having an apocalypse game and my bloodbrides multi charged a vindicator and stormraven, I blew up the vindi and immobilized the stormraven I then piled in to block the access points. Then on their turn the person who was working made me move my dark eldar so he could get his furioso and sanguinary guard out just because we were winning, although next turn he was staring down the barrels of 6 void lances!

It sounds like he was just trying to be helpful. It's not very hard to politely tell the guy what you'd prefer to do. The fact that you had to be Escorted out of store, and the way you are talking about the incident, seems like you escalated a non-issue to absurd levels.

I lose. A lot. In fact when I win, it is a genuine surprise. But what I really, really dislike, is folk who think that because I am laid back about my gaming, that it is OK to cheat when playing me. Two usual culprits at my local GW. I hate having to watch my opponent like a hawk. Fielding hundreds of extra points. 'Forgetting' BS etc...and if challenged, not having a codex or army list with them. At one point, for the fifth time I had to sigh and say "For the last time, no, it cannot move or fire its guns. Because it exploded. It is a wreck. That is why you put it upside down. It is not a tank. It is scenery."
Got a bit of flack once for unpacking models at one tiny-tournie, seeing it was 'Them' again. I instantly asked for army lists, and if they had their codex with them. No on both counts. Packed back up and walked away. Got accused by a passing random for being a bad sport.
That day did not end too badly...I did some painting instead. About four lads in expensive tracksuits and baseball caps came swaggering in. I thought 'oh lord, here we go' expecting a bit of aggro. It has happened from time to time. Instead of a sneer from the lad who bobbed down next to me, he asked me how I 'got my white like that'. Blinded by his bling and a bit taken aback, it took a moment to gather wits and tell him how I did it. He kept asking questions and was generally polite and earnest...and some more tracksuited twerps came in. This lot were the usual breed though and began strutting about the place trying to pick fights. This upset the guy talking to me. Never thought I would see a pigeon-fight in a GW, two lads squaring off, arms back, chests out, up on the tips of their toes. "You startin' mate, you startin'?'" In the end the new lot left, and the original group came back over to ask if the rules were easy to learn. A staffer swept in at that point and gave them the 15 minute trial game and they seemed to have a right laugh. Automatically Appended Next Post: On second thought...it was when my wife decided to have a go at the hobby. She chose Orks, She painted them magnificently, blowing me away with how fast she picked up her skills. She thrashed me in her first game. Then she looked down and decided it was not for her after all!

Well, not the worst gaming experience ever, but it certainly was a biggie
I was still vaguely new to the hobby- goin for about 4-5 months (for me this isnt long experience wise).
I was curious about fantasy battle, as it seemed pretty cool. I ask if I can play a tutorial game. They say sure, give me some chaos knights and a mage (If I remember correctly) And they ask another guy whos played warhammer before for I think a while. He used dwarfs. I was beating him (well, I was killing his models, but he was killing none of mine) The guy was scary. He kept swearing, muttering under his breath and by the end of it he seemed ready to run off swearing and rage crying. Not a nice experience.
Looking back on it it was probably the reason I dont play warhammer. Shame.

Perhaps on the second bit i would have said something like "Well i was going for 2 at the moment and if that doesnt work out ill try 3!" But on the first bit i'd get a bit annoyed about strangers picking up my models. Im not that bothered if they would ask, because then it'd leave me more relaxed that they're gunna be careful.
But anyway if he argues that only 6models can fit in a rhino you'd really have to pull out your codex and show him and if he still argue'd then get your friends to back you up on your point. and if he STILL argue'd that would be the time to say "screw this, ill find some one else to play against"

I had my online shopping cart filled with over 200 dollars worth of models during Squadron's 50% off and free shipping sale. The sale expired as I clicked to check out.

It sounds like he was just trying to be helpful. It's not very hard to politely tell the guy what you'd prefer to do. The fact that you had to be Escorted out of store, and the way you are talking about the incident, seems like you escalated a non-issue to absurd levels.
To be honest at that point i was TFG I'd had an irritating day, and he kept saying the words 'get 3' over and over and it was only a week after the first fiasco. I just lost it, though i didn't punch him or anything, just swore at him very loudly. Games workshop doesn't take kindly when you swear at people in their shops.
But anyway if he argues that only 6models can fit in a rhino you'd really have to pull out your codex and show him and if he still argue'd then get your friends to back you up on your point. and if he STILL argue'd that would be the time to say "screw this, ill find some one else to play against"
I did point out i only had the money for 2... like i said earlier i just lost it and turned green.
to be honest i was fed up playing him, I just said, im hungry, im off to fond food and packed up, he didn't seem too bothered. My friends were not bieng helpful that day lol.
I don't like random people, i have a bit of a short temper and get anoyed very fast, i know this so try to avoid playing pick up games just in case something happens.

As I saw the dice, the lith moved almost directly toward you with a VERY slight left veer. As you saw it you said it moved almost diagonally toward Nathan.
As for your Pod, I know it can move away from stuff, but as you saw the dice it went left fith a forward veer, but as i saw it It was going diagonally towards me.
Its just I had to take both into account and you only had to take your view into account. Just sayin' in ain't really fair

I don't game much anymore (time/budget constraints) so I really haven't had an annoying moment in forever. I remember back in 3rd edition, a DE player refused to believe that Pulse Rifles were S5 and wouldn't play me because that was clearly cheating on my part.
Never mind the fact that if and when he got into assault range with his super-duper Archon unit the whole Tau army would die in about .6 seconds.

Nope. It was a big tournament, something like 30-40 players. The final round, by design, was a 3-player free-for-all.
And that's not even the worst of it, here are some of the rules:
Each army must deploy one HQ (just HQ, not retinue) model in the center.
Turn 1, you can only use units if they roll a 4+, otherwise they are "confused."
Roll off for who gets first turn. But if you get the first turn for Turn 1, in Turn 2 you automatically go LAST.

It was table quarters, with just one un-used quarter.
Objectives were one in each used quarter, and one in the center.
And my Dark Eldar got paired up against 2 Blood Angel armies. Guys who happened to be buddies and so on. Yeeeeah.
I'm all for unusual scenarios that force tactical thinking, and I'd even be okay with a 3-player game, but with the rule of "if you went first, be prepared for 4 turns of Blood Angel attacks" nonsense...yeah. Not fun.

Ok so I have two-three
The first one didn't happen to me but a kid that goes to my LGS where I go to college. Now I've told the story about the big guy who yelled and fussed making this kid cry infront of everyone. What I didn't say was the pregame rolls. It's his DoA/ DC vs this kids Tau. Yeah already not fair. Now first off Jordan, the kid, wins the roll off and goes first actually taking a table quarter that forced the BA a fair distance away. Now the other guy, I won't say his name, just came back from the register while Jordan deployed no biggie. He promptly annonunces his army will be all in reserve. As he walks up he just grabs one of Jordan's dice and says rolling to steal the initiative. He failed to ask to borrow and to steal. He wadles around to his side of the table yelling about how he doesn't like his dice and demanding a reroll with his dice which look like casino dice. He rolls despite Jordan's protests and gets a 6, practically forcing a reroll.
Now for mine. This was back with the old DE book, about 2-3 years ago. I had just gotten through with a game and had time for another one. They guy I'm playing says he wants a rematch because "I was over the point limit." I kindly pull out my list that I printed off and hand it to him with my codex. He brushes me off and says he's using a different list. Not only does he refuse to let me see it. It is practically a DE kill list. It couldn't win against nids. Basically it was assault cannon razorbacks, rifleman dreads, and ML/ PG marines everywhere. Now I'm pretty sure it was around 2K-2,250 in an 1850 game. Needless to say I was less than pleased by this lack of sportsmanship from someone I considered a decent guy and good player. We rolled up objectives, 3 of 'em. He just started destroying my army. End of the game I pulled a double flat out hopping move to take 2 of the objectives. Moral of the story don't be a duesch and respect the speed!
Number 2 would be the same guy from the first story. Noticing a trend yet? He used the same BA list on me that I saw him use on Jordan, but this was still when DE had the old codex. He tried to rush on foot not thinking DE could shoot effectively with only S3 rifles. Then I unleashed my dissintegrators on his tightly packed DC and assault marines, so basically 9 plasma cannons Not believing me that that was my current codex he insisted on using his old 3rd ed codex for his rules despite using the 5th ed book to build the army. I still tabled him in 2 turns.

When I was just starting out I was playing my tau army in a small doubles tournament with my close friends, and in the final round we played against these players that spent the whole game telling us how horrible our paint job was (I was 10 give me a break!) and how amazing theirs was. Then they went on to make up a bunch of rules just so they could win (I didn't know better at the time.). If I ever play them again I promise I will grind their army to dust .

I went to a team tournament near the end of this most recent summer with a friend. The tournament itself was great fun, but what a certain someone had to say really annoyed me.
As a student, I spend my Summers (and this current Christmas) in Calgary, and my school months in Lethbridge. As such, I spend time with two different gaming groups. Anyway, this tournament was held in Calgary, but some Lethbridge people came to play as well. Anyway, one of the people from the Lethbridge group ended up writing this fairly hateful blog about people at the tournament:

What got me was the personal attack against me:
Grey Knights. Draigo, wound allocated 10 man squad of paladins, vindicare assassin. Players Choice for best painting (we'll get to that later, let's just say I drew with him for first but didn't win). I personally CANNOT stand this guy. He goes to school in my city and is renowned in the scene as a douche.

I just read his blog, and boy he can really dish out the attitude. I would be quite miffed if i went to a tourney and most armies were blood angels but i dont see cause to slag off every army just because its unique to the others. And personally i dont see what was wrong with no hatches, it symbolises the ability to shoot 5 people from it instead of the lasguns (which im sure any GK player would love to use instead of their standards) on the side.
I was going to comment on his blog, but oh wait, Comments are closed! I feel sorry for you having to even know who this guy is. I'll take on the family guy italian stereotype and say if i were you this guy would not like me coming round and showing him a thing or two about, ahem manners!

Yeah this blog is a piece of feth (that is the first time ever I used that word).
Reason being is that, he hates everyone by the sounds of it, When he was "apparently" tied for first and the IG guy won it he was dishing out the dirt on it and personally there was nothing wrong with it, and he thinks he is the best, and he was sick of ALL the BA but when there was different army's He was surprised and even disrespected them (I mean he didn't like BA or GK yet he moan on like a meldrew about all other army's... What a complete waste of a blog)
In other words if you see this guy again tell him he is Victor Meldrew and if he asks why tell him about how he wined like one on his blog...
(on a side note if he dose not know what Victor Meldrew is, tell him to watch him on you tube)

Yeah, but then you get a look at the current Incubi models and never look back
I was at a doubles tournament a while ago. It was a swell time, and I had a lot of fun with my IG and my Dark Eldar teammate. All our opponents were great to play against, we had a lot of fun, and placed well! Unfortunately, there was one guy (he's well known in our gaming area) who started cussing someone out and screaming at them before the day even started. We hadn't even done our first match ups and this guy was already flying off the handle. In one of my games, I was stuck playing next to him. From the start of turn 1, he was bitching about how there's too many Space Marine armies at tournaments, people should be more creative, and so on. Of course he says this in the face of his opponent, who's playing Space Marines. To ice that cake, he's playing Space Marines himself. I ran into him a bunch at my old gaming group, and he's one of the reasons I left.

I looked at that and thought, "what?" Anybody claiming that space marines are at tournaments too much and then bringing them himself, then calling those people unoriginal acting as if he's brought Live models who actually shoot other models on the board... should just not go to them at all. It ruins the fun, especially when you are not even playing them and its the surrounding people who suffer too.
