Looks good . Even that castle base could be used, just use putty to make it look like it’s on a slight hillside, stairs might be wonky, but oh well.

Cool stuff you are creating with the printer. I'm jealous of you hvaing one but at the same time glad I don't have to try to figure it out.

I like Theo's idea of what to do with the castle base.

Unfortunately the base is mildly rotated as well as slanted, and thus won't work quite as well as might be desired. I have started a new print on a slightly different base, and will see how that came out once it's done.

Beware of greeks bearing gifts....I've been busy working on models for Hail Caesar! Seen here are two units of Hoplites, a unit of Throrakitai, a unit of medium cavalry, and a unit of light cavalry. I've got two to three more units of hoplites to build...urg.

Trying to get most of the way there. I did find some 7/8" washers I've started using for basing, and may work up to two Mortal Gods armies on my way to a Hail Caesar! force.

It will be a slog to get there. I also have some 15mm stuff I've done I need to put up, and get some opinions on color scheme for the freighter.

So I ran a color test on the freighter, and I think I will go with the darker/more drab brown vs the lighter beige. I do have some mild sanding I need to do as the bloody spray paint went weird in parts.



Lesson to be learned, prime before spray painting I guess.

I like the darker tones too , though if the soda can pods are seperate, they could be different colors or even have different logos.

So unfortunately I did not do a very good job with the expandable foam I used to fill the soda cans on my 15mm freighter. Sadly it has been moderately damaged on one side during handling, and I am going to put it on the shelf for a bit until I decide what I want to do (essentially a number of large dents running down one of the sides, all the way around the can).

As such, I've diverted a little bit and am trying to finish up the hoplite unit as well as work on some earlier Greeks for use with Mortal Gods. I have to say that I am really surprised that no one makes plastic Trojan War miniatures and the metal ranges are not amazing.

Below are some shots of raw metal from Old Glory and Redoubt. Both are pretty flash heavy, but Redoubt is more/better detailed than Old Glory. Old Glory on the left and Redoubt on the right:


Then some Newline Designs bowmen, which are not amazing figs, but will do the job adequately:

I'll use Redoubt for character figures and Old Glory for the rank/file just due to pricing. Although I have weeded out all the 'au natural' soldiers as I intended to play with my kids, and so maybe price isn't that much better. I'm going to see if my daughter can get all of the flesh tones on and I'll come back through and do the detail work.

Hopefully I can get a shot of the hoplites in one of my above posts this weekend. I've made some progress, and have been trying to make my hoplites more colorful than the usual white linen you see in armies. I've been doing some reading up on hoplites, and it sounds like it would have been more common to have dyed or painted linothorax than what is usually depicted. It makes some sense as a way to distinguish yourself from your mates and display your wealth/social status I suppose. Plus, it will break up the monotony somewhat for the army.

Sorry to hear about the freighter, I hope there's a good way to get it back in action. I'm looking forward to seeing these amassing armies finished and in action.

Maybe 60%-70% of the way there. I need to paint the spears and get the basing down, then it's just details and shield work.



I'm not sure if I want to put the mastic down first (press the mid ranks down into it to make a spot) and then add the mid rank back in, or glue them down and then put the mastic down.

Oh, and if you have never bought Old Glory Trojan War minis, don't. They have multiple elbows, heels which come out of the leg mid calf, and other oddness (such as what looks like broken arms with bones jutting out or a total lack of shoulders where the pectoral muscles just wrap over into the back). I've taken to call them 'carve your own' figs.

The troops look great, coming on nicely. As to mastic before or after, I would say it depends how easy will it be to do after, because that could be pretty fiddly trying to get in about.

And the last bunch there are shocking, by today's standards, they are just not acceptable.

Dang it Herakles! I told you not to take the pin...I mean...javelin... Enter Talos, to be used as a Titan when playing Saga: Fantasy. I still need to touch up the rocks, but he's here in all his bronze glory:





He started life as a Schleich spartan toy, and was slightly reposed (his head and spear arm). For a scale comparison, here he is about to trample some luckless hoplites (who are almost done as well):



Two stand of whom are almost done (eyes on one shield, and the fronts on the other stand still need doing).





In the end the bases were sanded as the mastic had gone bad, which turned out okay.

Ah, I scratched a long standing itch and finally built myself a proper gaming table. My father-in-law has a large selection of wood working equipment, but lives about 1000 miles from me. We were up visiting them and while there I built this with his help. Surprisingly it fit in the bed of my truck (in pieces) and made the journey down. I spent most of Sunday assembling it and setting it up for a game of Saga. The ends have a recessed pocket in them ( I have some work to do to finish the covers, but in principle it all works correctly) and the legs are all dual shelving units to hold books/terrain. Under the table I can fit my carrying cases and have some small shelving area for terrain tiles (you can see the supporting runners in-between the legs).

Man that is slick! Neat and organized, compact and efficient- it appeals to every level of my OCD!

I intend to, someday, build such a table. How much did it cost for the materials? That will be a joy to game on for you, great work.

@CaptainWaffle: It cost just under $200 to build. It could be done cheaper using just 2x4s instead of the 2x6s I used for the sides and a lower grade plywood instead of the birch I used for the shelves.

Alternatively, you could use 4x4s for the legs and have runners between them to lay plywood/mdf/et al on to make a larger under table shelf.
