so i had my copy show up earlier today, and i have to agree with the others just how nice it turned out, i also really like how well everything fits in the trays/boxes/back in the main box, since i sometimes find arranging storage space to be tricky at times.
also, i feel i'm going to be a long time painting the tray of of handweapon bull demons (didn't see that tray in the above pics)

Just received my copy of Journey and... wow.
I'm blown away by the quality of these miniatures: I backed several 'miniature games' that had great concept art, and those games, which ostensibly were about the models, were nowhere near as high quality as the miniatures in this thing.
Unfortunately I won't have time to really go through my box for like a week, but I'll definitely be putting up some pictures when I do.
The only complaint I can muster right now is the yin-yang spinner spins, but always lands in the same place. Not sure how to fix that...

Mine came today as well.
Minis are nice. Pieces look nice. Going to have to figure out somewhere to put all the cards. I wish they had some sort of tray for them.
My spinner isn't as bad as others say. With a little fiddling around, it'll actually spin the way it's supposed to.
Looking forward to Peng the Pandaman. Hope he's as large as some of the other figures.
Hopefully I can try out the actual game this weekend, but I also just got Rum & Bones, and I'm not sure if there'll be time for both.

Having played both of the intro Quests 1 & 2, I feel I can comment on the game: 1. I backed for the gorgeous minis, and was not disappointed. The minis are impressively large and well-detailed, even as bendy PVC. This is probably the best use of the material I've seen. Far better than Bones, for example. 2. The game itself plays quite well, very clean and straightforward, not a lot of unnecessary complexity - dramatically cleaner than Super Dungeon Explore 2.0 "Arcade" mode. Whomever designed this ruleset clearly understands that less is more, with only a few kinds of terrain and status effects, so that the complex items stand out as areas the designer intends more attention to be paid. 3. The Scenarios are a teaching tool, with the mechanics split into 2 separate scenarios followed by an integrating scenario. This is *exactly* how intro scenarios are *supposed* to be created, unlike Zombicide, which just has these random, difficult things right off the bat. 4. There is clearly more "stuff" than required - they probably could have cut at least 1 tile, maybe 2, from the game, but chose not to. Probably more basic Demons, too. But the game components themselves, the cards, show similar effort to streamline to only a few meaningful and themed variants. 5. Overall, there is a thoughtfulness in the whole package. Everything is designed and beautiful and curated. It's clear that Ray and Hon put a lot of love into Journey, and I hope they win "Game of the Year" or something. If you haven't played Journey, I heartily recommend you try it. ___ Oh yeah, I agree the cards should have some kind of sorter / organizer. Especially for between game storage. Also, I would have been fine (happier) with a Yin/Yang coin.

Post by: highlord tamburlaine
My biggest issues with the game, having run the intros, and without echoing John's comments...
-storage. There's nowhere to put the cards upon unwrapping them! Just about everything else has a place designated for it. A small oversight.
-the health trackers. They're too tiny!
Other than that I absolutely agree that it is very smooth and streamlined. A lot of thought was put in to this game. I may have failed on backing the KS, but I am very happy I ended up preordering it.
Now the wait for the other materials begins....

Out of curiosity, did you try playing it and not particularly like it or just move along with your interest? I'm starting to list a lot of the KS's hanging out in the back of my closet that I know I'll never get around to painting or playing with.

Played it a bit, it was well-executed but for whatever reason didn't grab me.
Still trying to wrap my head around it, but I didn't find it bad, just I guess not my taste, I guess? Normally I get upset with an element of a game I think was done poorly that ends up ruining it for me, but IDK, guess I'd rather have some cash/expand another collection than another fancy board game. Maybe just KS exhaustion.

Post by: Triple9
That makes perfect sense. We all have our games that we don't hate and are well received, but just sit on the shelf. Zombicide is mine. Glad to hear that you didn't find anything wrong with the game, just didn't grab you. I'll hopefully finally get a chance to take it off the shelf and play it sometime in the next week.

Makes sense to me. We've yet to get it on the table, but I can see how, at some point, all "dungeon crawlers" feel samey.
I'm hoping KD won't feel that way because of the uniqueness of the system, but who knows.

Yep, Cincy, fingers crossed that KD is even relatively close to the hype it has.

Interesting Update today, but it looks like Marrow is "done" with Wave 1, and now refocusing on Wave 2 to come out whenever it does. Kinda sad to hear that the guys are still working on a shoestring and can't quit their day jobs.
OTOH, having Journey core box at retail might help them a bit.

Wow, it is been silent for a long time, but we finally get an Update on Wave 2!
Wave 2 will include some small packs and one full expansion:
• Jiangshi Boxed Set
• Plastic Bridges Boxed Set
• Bone Demon Expansion
There is a small chance that the Yau Demons might make it into Wave 2, but it is not on the list at the moment. We do not want to miss more deadlines, so we are not giving you a date, but to set expectations, you will not receive Wave 2 before Q4 2016.
Glad to hear that they're working on it, and a little disappointed that it's not going to include *everything*. I just hope to receive something this year, rather than waiting to 2017...

Kinda light on details, tho... :(

Post by: DaveC
At a guess they seriously under estimated how much this would cost and the money is gone now. They'll have to look for more shipping money at the very least whatever about the rest. It's also telling that there have been no pictures of the expansion sculpts or most of the post wave 1 stuff bar a few miniatures.
I've chalked this one up to part delivery unlikely to see anymore. I wasn't in for that much so it's no great loss. I might be willing to chip in a bit more for shipping but that's it and I'd want to see finished product first.
(Technically I still haven't had an outright failure or even part failure on KS but 2 or 3 projects are close to it)

I'm rather pissed off when I remember that this KS was a thing that sort of exists. I went pretty much all-in, but also purchased a bunch of extras from the initial boxes, which they could have fulfilled (since they were manufactured) but didn't.
I'm assuming from their behaviour from the past couple of years that it's a write-off at this point...

Yeah, I want my extra dice, so at least the base game can be played without feeling like a pauper when I have to share dice. Of course, I also want my expansions. This and RRT have kinda soured me on KSing expansions on top of the base game. At least the base game usually delivers, where expansions are slow and iffy.

What exactly was the reason they gave why some of us only recieved the base game and nothing else as wave 1?

5421
Post by: JohnHwangDD
We got our update, and they admit they're undercapitalized for what they need to deliver, based on a few hiccups in Wave 1.
Color me not surprised. At all.
But they're going to attempt to do something, to get the hopping ghosts & bridges out, so there's that.

It's been 3 years since the 1st wave and basically nothing else was produced.
72224
Post by: Joyboozer
I'm not sure I believe this. Are they saying that not only could they no longer afford postage, but ran short of everything and can't afford more production, which for some reason they didn't order enough of in the first run?
So now if I pay postage I'll get the stuff you couldn't include in my wave 1 for reasons?
5421
Post by: JohnHwangDD
Sining wrote:It's been 3 years since the 1st wave and basically nothing else was produced.
I received my Wave 1 core box on 8/8/2015, so that's more like 18 months than 3 years.
Unfortunately, I backed a lot, so I'm still waiting on my expansions and bonus items. :(

What has actually shipped for this one?
Just the base game?
The base game + the 'upgrades'?
Have any of the expansions shipped?
This one had a lot of promise - sad to see it in the state it is in now...
5421

I've only received the base game.
No upgrades,
No expansions.
I did not order resins, so I can't speak to that.

Have you seen the VAMPIRE HUNTERS Kickstarter?
Not sure why, but I'm getting a pseudo-Journey vibe there as well...
I like it, but am hesitant to commit...
5421
Post by: JohnHwangDD
Dark Gate's Vampire Hunters? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1900818244/vampire-hunters-0 ? I saw the campaign, but ignored it as I'm not huge on vampires. IMO, it's worse than Journey, as they still aren't showing anything but renders 6 months after funding. At least show me 3-D prints! I won't late pledge Vampire Hunters, but that's because I'm looking at Rising Sun & Smog - knowing that CMoN will ultimately deliver both of them. ____ On a lark, I revisit the Vampire Hunters KS - it looks like they're delayed until 2018 with print issues.
72319
Post by: highlord tamburlaine
...and I just capped off my Vampires pledge.
Even if they end up pulling a Journey and only releasing the base game, I won't mind too much, as that's all I pledged for.
Then again I backed Ice Age Mammals, so what do I know?
I'd be curious what a paired down Journey would look like if it went to retail.
5421
Post by: JohnHwangDD
I'm not sure how much smaller Journey could be made for retail. I guess they'd try to shrink it to a Zombicide-sized 12" square box, with fewer Demons, and the coin instead of the spinner? But it still needs the 4 Pilgrims, the boss Monsters, the cards & dashboards. Maybe lose the generic demon organizers and the Qilin?
123
Post by: Alpharius
Is there any realistic chance this ever hits retail though?
5421
Post by: JohnHwangDD
Not likely. Where would they get the money to for a 2nd production run?

They have only produced (and mostly sent) the base game and some resin versions of the heroes from the base game. They are supposedly in development of the first expansion and some add-on items including the Jiangshi. Given the costs involved, and that they seem to have run out of money, it's not looking great.

I like how they're just now starting to sculpt these guys.
Why couldn't they have started work on the sculpts months (years?) ago?
61979
Post by: DaveC
Latest updated showed off the Yau Demons as if they are something new they posted pictures of them on Facebook in March 2016 so basically they've done nothing for a year. I get that they have money issues but this shouldn't have prevented them from sculpting minis over the course of the last year even if they can't afford the molds to produce them.
The latest armature work is no more than a few days work.

Post by: Triple9
I wish companies would just close the books on these projects instead of stringing it along year after year. At some point, there needs to be a hard reality check. You now have a game that was released almost 2 years ago, has no distribution/availability, so there is little point in manufacturing the expansions other than to fulfill the Kickstarter, which for most people would probably end up in the gather dust pile until the minis can be re-purposed. The Resins on the other hand; doesn't make any sense at all that these haven't been sculpted and distributed over the past few years. This was all being done in-house IIRC, so there really is no reason for them to be just getting started. Interestingly enough, I had backed this one because they were in China and figured maybe they wouldn't be plagued by the same issues that were rampant in every other KS at the time.
72319
Post by: highlord tamburlaine
I stand by my thoughts that this could have been salvaged and even finished in a reasonable amount of time if they'd adopted a Kingdom Death style release.
Put out a few new resins every quarter or so, have a few resins available on their web shop at all times, and have a somewhat steady cash flow coming in while they work on getting the rest of the game out.
Ray's obviously a good sculptor, why not put those talents to use regularly and get that money back into your company? Collectors will collect nice looking models. This isn't any sort of market secret.
I'm still pining for my Kung Fu Panda Soul Cleanser.

I'm assuming this kickstarter was another lost cause, like robotech (except the robotech producer just ripped folks off compared to the creator here who has tried to be honest and upfront about the game and money).
Shame as it's a good game. All I got was my four resin heroes and the base game :(

it looks like they are moving forward with the Jiangshi at least

I wouldnt write this off just yet I think they'll do everything they can to fulfil it just might take years to finish

Post by: highlord tamburlaine
Makes me wonder if they would do something like KD, Gloomhaven, and a few others have done- use Kickstarter to fund a reprint.
Then again I'm not sure if there's even that much demand at this point for a second printing of the game (or if they even sold through the first one).
Hell, sell some resins in the meantime. SOMETHING. A shame this one has had such a poor showing.

What I wish they'd do, and what I mention every time I look at one of these campaigns that's struggling later on, is why not supplement their income by releasing some new resins like Kingdom Death has continued to do?

They signed a deal with Edge Entertainment last August to distribute a retail version of the game.
http://www.edgeent.com/juegos/articulo/journey_la_ira_de_los_demonios/journey_la_ira_de_los_demonios
Kickstarter edition
Journey has finally struck a retail deal with a distributor. Because the distributor wants to control the roll out, we can’t give too much information at the moment. To take Journey to market, we had to change the game. So now the Kickstarter box is a special version, larger in every way; it has more miniatures, quests, map tiles and cards. The smaller retail edition has exactly the same quality components and gamers may be able to buy the components we removed as expansions produced at a later date. Other than the way the components are bundled into packs, there will be nothing available to retail shoppers that backers do not have.
Once the distributor makes an announcement, we will pass on more information about the changes.
Edge is owned by Asmodee so that checks out. I guess it just took longer than expected to get it to retail. Having it available it a slightly cheaper retail vesrion should hopefully bring in more much needed funds.
They are still slowly working away on this but they are having to work on it in their spare time as they need day jobs as well.

Post by: JohnHwangDD
I am not upset over this result - at least they are trying, and repacking for retail is a challenge. I'm glad to see the retail version, as it suggests that they may get enough money to make more of the KS stuff a reality

I can understand why people are mad about the delays for this but at the same time they actually are chugging along trying to get things made and trying their best to dig themselves out of the hole they're in. Finally getting the game up for distribution in the US and Europe is a pretty big deal as I saw it at gencon in 2017 as the smaller box. Hopefully that will get them an income boost they need to finish.

A lot of upset folk in the comments alright. This is one of those projects where a lot of creators would have just folded and scrapped everything else after the initial game shipped but these 2 lads want to do right by their backers however long that takes. This will likely drag on for years if I get more happy days if not I'll write it off and move on as I can see they've tried their best here and unfortunately over estimated what they could get done with the money raised.
The Jiangshi are part of my order so I've sent an address update. I half expected to have to pay more shipping for future stuff but if they can get it produced and shipped without charging any more happy days.
5421
Post by: JohnHwangDD
Exactly. Late is better than never. It's not like they fething took the money and ran like SPM/ND did with Super Dungeon Explore. They're trying to complete the KS out of their own pockets. I am not at all opposed to paying for additional shipping if that's what it takes.

Interesting on the scale. Aren't the core game figures more 40-50mm?
Also I did email them offering to pay shipping for the Jiangshi set and this is what they told me:
