 thanks.
Totally forgot I brought some more terrain back home, so spent a few hours on Custodian helmets.. these are now 90ish% done. Need a final highlight on black parts and some purple glazing into darkest areas.
Great zoom really makes them look bad :''D

After a small rest, moving on to Lake Town Houses! Boi, these are cuties <3
Today I will try building Bard's house. In other words, copypasting the house shown in WHC article. And after that I will still have 2 more houses left to build.

Yeah. I think I will have to buy some bricks from GSWorld though. They definitely need some chimneys!
In the meantime, been working on some more Custodes shields...

Will see how it will turn out when all parts of the model will be painted in such manner
And today is a happy day, for I have finally bought everything I ever wanted from FWs Legio Custodes models. So now I can at least rest assured there will be no more spending in that category

Until they come out with something else that's cool, right?
96291
Post by: CragHack
Definitely!
No, in all seriousness, I've ordered one of the Zone Mortalis sectors again. Will try working one at a time and see what happens.
Jeez, I've soo many things to do now: LoTR, Custodes, Lake town houses, even more of the 40k terrain. And I have this new Deepkin terrain ship coming in tomorrow or wednesday! Gosh..
96291
Post by: CragHack
So here I am, strolling into our crib to see this fishkin fish tank ship waiting for me.
"Screw them Lake town houses, let's assemble this gak!". I was surprised it is made out of good plastic, not the gakky one like Dragonfate Dais is.
All in all, a pretty standard kit, with your regular GW sprue nonsense, requiring to glue head into slot even though the rest of the body was molded fully and things like that. Quite a few mold lines as well.
Can't wait to paint it tomorrow, just tried some Decayed gold from Scale 75

Creepy. Will have to catch You to get the details on where to get that wreck. Slash marks on golden shields look very good! Thumbs up!

Post by: CragHack
It's the new AoS terrain piece
First things first though, did some work on the huge building one of the guys brought to us. Still, a colossal amount of work to be done here.
Aaand, the last few days put some more paint of the fishkin fish tank decoration thing. Picking out the details, needs a wash and something else. Maybe a few highlights...

Roger that, homing.
But in Your hands it looks better and will look awesome!
96291
Post by: CragHack
OK, so it seems there's some more terrain incoming...the damned xenos gateway :x
In the meantime, more work with Custodes! Picked out most of the details, even finished lining one of them. 4 more left and then it's final layering time...

Post by: CragHack
Eh, guess what: I'm back into Zone Mortalis business. After sending those pieces back and looking at pretty much most of available, better and not-so-better known alternatives (Right Arm Labs does one as well), I decided that I simply can't live without it. Simply, because, it seems like only way I will be interested in playing Warhammer (30k) again. So the long term goal is to make the most pretty board, complete with dissection table(s), medicae bays, navy plane hangars and such.
So this time I decided to buy it piece by piece and just clean the heck out of each of them. Here you can see the rough condition in which it arrived. I already cut away most of the messy parts and removed some of the studio green stuff fillings to replace them with my own.
It's actually not that bad. Though I might need to use a hecking load of liquid greenstuff. And salvage one of those water filters for small beads... And to finally buy a heat gun, as the whole plate is warped.

I'm really liking how the ghost ship is coming out- the detail is terrific and the eerie green glowy wash thingy is highly effective- fantastic build!

Post by: lipsdapips
Gold tones on the custodes are succulent as ever! The ghostly wreck is neat as well - it'll be nice to see some focus on minis more than terrain but you can't go wrong with it! There are far fewer terrain-painters than miniature painters so you should never feel like you're overdoing it.
96291
Post by: CragHack
Thanks <3 The ship has been finished for quite some time, I just forgot to post it here.
And the main reason I'm focusing on terrain is because no one else does. And we need it. Even though now we have enough to decently cover at least 4/5 4x6 tables

Soo...did some more work on Custodes... This is, actually, quite old pic, I tried painting tubings, but failed miserably. I then proceeded to cry over missed mold lines.
But then this beauty came in knocking. So I wiped my nose and was happy for about half a day.
But then I started painting Galatus...
Ordered a bunch of brownish paints... Will try spraying bases tomorrow. Bleh.

Well the ship is absolutely amazing, stunning work, and the gold on these Custy's is so beautiful and rich and deep. Brilliant bud, brilliant.

Having seen that wreck in person, I should say that while it is amazing, it tries too much to be a ghost and a wreck at once. Too much shine on that ghostly glowing wood. But this is and excellent piece of terrain!

Thanks!
Lucky me, I won’t have to paint the webway gate, so that’s more free time painting Custodes. This week I should receive more Army Painter tones (seriously, I want to spill GW washes into toilet after using those), and some blueish/leathery tones for power swords and gloves.
Combined with me wanting to wait for a better euro:gbp rate, I should have just about enough painted models for a first decent, yet small, game.
In the meantime, did more work on Galatus dread.

Those golds are looking legit! Nice work!

Post by: CragHack
But I’m just not happy with them. At least with Sentinels, which I will have to buy a new squad and paint anew, most likely. I mean, just look at those derp eyes and the HIDEOUS mold line I missed! Gah...

Good lord, how did you paint that gold?
96291
Post by: CragHack
The original paint scheme can be found on Salaise Figurine blog. It's just bright gold with glazes and inks, but my interpretation inverts shadows from the original.
96291
Post by: CragHack
It's here! For the second time
So far I've pulled out 2 pieces and they seem waaay better than last time. I hope the rest will the the same. There is, however, some obvious warpage, but a heat gun should fix that as boiling water is just not enough to penetrate. First game is next week, woo!

More paints arrived, moving on to painting leather..
So simple, yet so complicated.
Aaand, packed pretty much everything up. Though I will definitely add some extra tiles, so in the end there will be two of these boxes + some smaller ones for all the extra terrain features.
This whole box fits roughly 11 tiles. 13, or even more if counting the flat ones in. Still better than cardboard bawkses.

Post by: CragHack
Slowly, yet steadily, moving forwards. The first 5 man squad is like 96% done! Need to finish the bases, varnish and maybe add some verdigris.
Dread is almost done too. More highlights, scratch marks, some hoses, gemstones, varnish and transfers.
I quite like how the bases turned out, though not sure whether to paint just the letters or are surrounding them as well.
70290
Post by: Wirecat
Bases are stunning. Just the letters would be enough IMHO, maybe with more pronounced cracks.

Post by: Big H
Bases look cool, I'd darken up some areas with either grey or maybe blue glazes and call it done !
96291
Post by: CragHack
I did try darkening one of them with black glaze before reading your comment. Will definitely try a blue one as well, might turn out interesting.
A crap photo, but this small force is *almost* finished. Ixion Hale needs his head and Misericordia painted. Galatus needs them couters fixed and one of the Sentinels is missing a sword, so will have to paint that up too. And bases. Bases for everyone! That’s pretty much all, until I can move on to either Aquilon termies, Achillus dread or Pallas grav attack

CragHack,
While the picture might not do them justice, looking at some of the earlier shots mean this is a really nice force.

Cannot wait to see what you do with Valdor. Also the metallic red on the shield is lovely.
96291
Post by: CragHack
Thanks for the comments!
Yeah. i’m actually thinking about investing into proper lightbox...it just makes them pictures look soo much better. That is, if I could get past the price without thinking about better options to buy something.
The metallic red is now, sadly, very limited edition Damn you, Forgeworld...And Valdor is pretty much the last one in line, mostly because I don’t play anything bigger than Mortalis and by bringing Valdor there... well, I guess I could bring him alone vs 1k pts of Deathguard and still come on top
Been slacking for several says now...Played a Mortalis game on Saturday againt Deathguard.
And put some paint on Pallas Grav-attack.
But still haven’t finished anything from my previous to do list. So I still have to:
1. Finish painting bases.
2. Paint Hale’s head.
3. Paint one more sword for Sentinel Guard.
4. Paint some gemstones on Galatus dread.
5. Add transfers on Galatus shield and shoulder pad.
Vs the new season of Diablo 2 ladder. Bleh,

That is looking stunning. really rich scheme you have, perfectly executed.

Post by: CragHack
Thanks. It's quite hard, though. For example, I'm now almost at the finish line with this Pallas, though I'm just torn how should I do the underside. Should I add gold parts, or should I leave it whole silver...
On one hand, it adds more details... On the other - the whole thing is already soo colorful. Gah!

Silver. You will shade it really well, I trust You!

Sold the Pallas. Couldn't live with all the fails
Started painting some 30k Thousand Sons, bought a crap tone of Mechanicum and Dickbikes. Painted some terrain..
Actually, I quite like painting it. It's just so relaxing, there's no need to be uber careful, no need to fix any tiny detail or worry about imperfections. Just a slap with a sponge here and there, and it's done!

This needs some stencils, like dates, dedications, kill marks and "da bad grot wuz here!" Very toxic on the inside, I like that.
96291
Post by: CragHack
Stencils could be cool, yeah
So now I have...
6 Lake Town houses.
The big red building, that's being slowly painted by a very nice chap. Bless him.
And a quite large - glue in progress - Cathedral to build...
Wanted to take Lair of the Astromancer the previous day. Unfortunately it was out of stock, gah :/
96291
Post by: CragHack
Some more progress on Cathedral. Need some mdf plate as base for this monstrosity...
96291
Post by: CragHack
Boom...
So, this is my current backlog of terrain I should, someday, paint. +the new Herdstone, +one more bunker, + some more defense lines.
Between me and my neurotic perfectionism, trying to paint some Thousand Sons and, now, some Shadespire as well.
Damn.

Envy is not even beginning to express my feelings. So much cool plastic! Makes me want to start some small 40K gang or at least something that can pass as such... Looks grey... err... great, but really needs some support. These cathedral halves should be half a kilo each at least.

The biggest problem is when you start running out of shelf space to store all that terrain
Pre weathered and added a layer of Dark Reaper on the flooring. Quite a productive day.
Also, finishing a smoll squad of 5 Khenetai Blades... what’s left is vendigris effect, transfers, bases (durr), a touch of black onto shoulder pads and belts.

Thanks Ironically, I stopped painting that piece of terrain the same day I posted here.
Tried doing some Sekhmet terminators, but man, I just overthink too much. I/e, a regular - normal - person would take parts and glue them together. I, on the other hand, have to spend a couple of days trying to find the coolest looking combos :/
I did make some OKayish looking bases though.

What can I say? Gritty! And very fitting on that tabletop too, although, perhaps, it is too clean. Horizontal surfaces usually get dusty and rusty first, but here most of the tear and wear (weather...) was on the walls. Anyway - great results! Will be looking out for the Herdstone...

Thanks and thanks! Starting strong this year: improving our gaming room in several ways: adding LOTS of light and storage space for the ever increasing terrain pile!

Been like 2 years now and, unfortunately, we were forced out of that gaming area - the owners decided to sell that particular place. But, we've moved everything up. Literally. There's a new gaming place at the same building just one floor up!
In the mean time, I've been slacking on a few gaming tables of my own: bought a foldable 6x4 table, acquired most of the FW tiles and bought a pile of OOP Wall of Martyrs stuff, so when I'm done, I will have a full Zone Mortalis, Desert-Fortification and Cities of Death boards.
I do have to say that it's quite hard to work on everything simultaneously, but some parts are getting along...Here's something I've built today: a start for Manufactorum themed sector. The main idea is to either have two buildings that will be connected by a walkway above or just remove one of them and use the raised area for either Voidshield Generator or Plasma Obliterator.
Hopefully, I won't stop here, but I will still have to buy at least 2 more larger Manufactorum sets to complete it :(
Oh, and the board itself is not yet painted. I just bought it that way. Will have to strip it down.

Finally did some painting. Ruined a new nozzle and needle after dropping airbrush straight on its nose
