^^ Got some work done on Bubba! Mostly Edge highlighting on the purple. I'm aiming to get the orange done in maybe yellow, so it'll show up nicely. All this is still before weathering as well. Got the LED kit, and started trying to figure out how to place it. I may go ahead and put the switch in the bottom as it's the most accessible anyway.
And my son's DE kits came in today =D I'm pretty excited he's been wanting these because he wants to do the hobbying all by himself =D

Bubba is looking great. Love the scheme you use for your orks.
Look forward to the DE. Quite a tough start, but sure he will do fine.

Bubba's looking good.
Good luck on the DE models. Those overlapping armour plates are tricky to paint well (although shortcuts are available; dry-brushing for example) .

Thanks guys =D he's fixin to start on his actual assembly. I have another airbrush needle coming so I can let him use it to prime.
Coming along!! I can't wait to start the weatheringize (soon tm!)
Here's the work I've done on the LED for the head so far - I wanted to try to backlight it as well but I think the LED is blocked too much so I may not put it in after all (I have two LEDs). I'm waiting for the glue to dry, that's holding the LED in place, praying it doesn't shift.

Great piece of work- looking forward to seeing how the lighting effects come out. I want to try adding LED to a vehicle coming up, and am eagerly learning how it goes with you.
95040
Post by: Guildenstern
Well, I'll tell you - I wish I'd waited to put the head together, and some other bits before trying to place LEDS, would have made it a lot easier. Live and learn.
the second LED isn't so visible when the doors are closed, sadly, but it does a good job otherwise. The head looks a bit less bright from this angle, but it's pretty noticeable IRL.
Just waiting for glue to firmly set, so that I can start the rest of the edge highlighting and final touches before weathering =D

I did a bit more WIP on the Gorkanaut - it's all in the edge highlighting so if you don't see a huge difference, that's why More pics are up in my gallery as well as I want to record every stage before I start weathering mah beasty

Thanks! =D a lot of the edge highlighting is (already) gone lol as is a lot of the base coat.
Tbh I LOVE weathering. When I first started painting it was a really hard jump for me. To spend so long painting a model really really nicely, then to basically just completely 'mess it up'. It's a different mind set. Now adays I look forward to messing it up with excited glee (maybe a little too much...)
Perhaps in a perfect world, where you were able and willing to take time to plan how the weathering was going to go exactly, it'd be faster to paint only where you want the 'nice' colours to remain, but I've never found that works. I can't really plan where I want to weather. Or where the paint will stay etc. It's easier to paint the whole thing first and then go to town.
Anyway, slight ramble there sorry! PICS!
After starting the weathering:

I got a couple pics snapped while waiting for the weathering powder to dry/set etc - hoping to have better ones up soon, after I get his base done.

Thanks Cam =D I'm having a ball with him, I really want another one now lol
For some reason, I decided I needed to tr to make a grot sandcastle... as part of the base (beach theme) so now I'm on my second attempt at it. Milliput alone did not work. Well, maybeif I knew how to sculpt. But anyway, hopefully it'll work this time, if not I have one more idea. And if that fails I'm a call it and just get the base done without
Anyway, meanwhile, I've been working on my entry for Wyrd's Iron Painter (Elim). Been wanting to do a sewer scene for a while so I was pretty keen on it. I'm gonna keep it to shoot pics of my rats on after too.

Thanks guys =D I thought I uploaded these already but apparently not >< been one of those weeks sigh
Been doing a lot of random terrain (as we need more to play with!):
Did some more work on my Kraken Diorama (waiting on some lil hills to dry so I can start adding the aquarium plants into the diorama atm):
WIP on some objective markers I got from Fenris KS - awesome details on these guys:
And I gotta wait on the Killakanz touchups to dry then I can get more details and weathering on them!

Started work on Kaptin Badrukk =D
Mostly working on his body and sword atm, then he'll be pretty well finished I think, except basing.

More on Kraken Diorama:
Mostly starting to glue the plants in, lot of waiting for glue to dry!
Got placement of most of the critters and mounds set, I think.
Need to paint the backdrop - I'm planning on running nylon thread from the backdrop to the taller plants to help them stay up, otherwise they have a tendancy to fall over.

Testing doing flames for the burna boyz
And the finished Burnaboyz, sans bases. I just got them in so will hopefully be finishing them soon.

Speaking of colourfull... lol
I was all about making this guy yellow - as I just really like the yellow dakkajets. And my son goes, "you should make it rainbow!" thus was the Painbow created lol
Needs some touch up in places, or not - as I'll be weathering it anyway I figure I'll go ahead and weather those spots. (that's what that undercoat of rust was all about)

^^ WIP shots of the Warbuggies
^^ Here's the Skimmer/ocean version (has a ski on the front foot instead of a tyre); it's made from most of a base model warbuggy with some added bits and plasticard
^^ Here's my Trike version (base back is mantic bit a friend sent me, front is mostly deffkopta and some plasticard with a Kromlech wheel)
^^ Here's the fairly boring base model.
Because the Dakkajet needed more dakka (since it's an ebay model I only got what came with it, so I decided to add to it)

Hope you all are having a Merry Christmas!
I of course stayed up late painting after wrapping Santa presents hahaha
Here's a couple shots of my base model Warbuggy - looking better I think now it's finished. Still wish they were larger but oh well. I'm off to finish the other two, Taking a bit longer because more bits of course. But they should be done I hope today. Really looking forward to getting more of my Orkz done before the end of the year, or at least shortly after the beginning. And I have my LOeR project I want to work on!

Post by: Guildenstern
Had to GS the front end again (Fell off) so I'm impatiently waiting for it to cure atm.
Also working on buggy #3 and Dakkajet.
If I end up using more warbuggies than these 3 definitely just gonna get a trukk kit and cut it down.
95040
Post by: Guildenstern
Finished this guy off. I'm thinking I'm gonna put him a base to help support the front forks, even tho now the GS seems pretty stable.
On to #3 and the Dakkajet!

Just a couple finished shots of my Dakkajet and friends.
Time to decide on the next project but I suspect it'll be the Lootas staring demandingly at me from my shelf. Or well, they would, if they had heads.

So this is one of my terrain pieces I'm working on atm for LOER. I am basing it loosely on an Egyptian Temple.
Here it is from both sides atm, as I have it laid out. I cut the foam columns with my new foam cutter, to get them close to circular. I'm probably keeping this layout, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
This is after I sanded the pillars to get them closer to round:
next stage is going to be refining the columns, trying to get them to look more like stone. I also started scoring them lightly where I'm going to be painting designs in. The base it self has been basecoated with a burnt umber, which I'm waiting on to dry.
95040
Post by: Guildenstern
So I started redoing the base, after I realized the stone simply stood out too much from the pillars stone version. It looked nice in brown, just didn't match, so I started redoing it in grey, like I did the pillars.
Here's all the pillars after their final HL of ivory white, I tried to give them a hint of a vein structure.
Mocked up the Temple again, to check out how it was all fitting together. Much happier with this version.
And I started working on the main pillar itself. It'll all be weathered afterwards, but likely mostly with paint as chipping fluid would not be ideal for pink foam.

I like to do army shots sometimes especially when I find my impetus waning a little bit. Trying to get the wherewithal to get the remaining units done this year (soon TM)
Speaking of remaining units so far I have:
30 grots
20+ nobz
6 warbikes
1 battlewagon
4 Mek Gunz (not purchased yet)
? Flash Gitz (also not purchased yet)
5-10 Lootas (under construction)
and 2 DeffDreads
That'll complete my Greentide, at least til I get a stompa and the FW units I'd really like (Grot tanks etc)

Thanks guys! Got a bit more hobby done (yesterday) on my Lootas:
Mek Boy & Lootas - working on their metals atm, their flesh is done. Bases are under consideration (will be ocean again tho).
And I actually am not currently hobbying (Gasp) because I'm playing a small game with my Son (finally!!) - really our first 8th ed game. Yes it's been that long.... Had to wait for him to get his DE together lol. Basically he's using the entire contents of the SC box, and I'm using 10 boyz, 1 nob, 1 painboy in a trukk, and a warbuggy (which was already blown up so not in shots).
Just playing on a small mat, so's to try to keep it quick, neither of us have psykers (well DE, Duh) but anyways, it's pretty fun! Little bit of confusion over 7th rules vs 8th but not too bad. We didn't add in anything except let's kill each other so we can try to figure out how this game works. I think he's prolly gonna win tho lol

I've decided to start visiting the blogs of other LoER contestants, so I can enjoy more than just their contest pieces. I'm only starting the 3rd page of yours, but I wanted to comment. First, what a nice collection you minis you've been making. It's not very timely, but your Luna Wolves look good.. not a lot of update atm, but I did rebase (or well, base) one of my trukks, I'm working on doing all of them. I hadn't been going to do it, but after a couple games I found it would be better if they were on bases to avoid messing up all the weathering etc I did (and breaking them less ><

I'm up to page 8 now, and wanted to comment on how nice your swamp board looks. You did a great job with the water effects and making it look like there is aquatic life going on under the water. I also checked out this current page. I really enjoyed your green tide army pics for the end of the year. I did the same thing. Your ork army looks great! I love the orky feel of it, and the conversions. My favorite is probably the grots suspended from the bottom of the wings of the dakkajet in those little armored baskets.

Yeah, I have a chibi-style figure to paint soon, myself. It's going to be an interesting challenge to get the right "cartoon" look to it (rather than the more "realistic" painting I'm used to).
Pretty base you have there. Good contrast with the rusty Ork truck.
A couple of things for the future, and if the base is a permanent fixture;
I'd have added some splashing from the wheels, doesn't have to be rooster-tails, but something to show the water being moved about.
And on top of that (or actually under), some brown, murky trails from where the wheels have been. Under the water effects (over the blue) to show the mud of the bed that the truck is running on...
...Or can Orks, if they believe in it enough, walk/run/drive on water...
... being churned up and muddying the water.
Maybe I'm just too "realistic" in my thinking for Orks. There's so many things about them that I "can't" do in my models.

Brilliant! No, those are awesome ideas! I Love it! I always learn a lot from each iteration so it helps having critiques as well, to point out what I miss.
I look at a lot of these as mini dioramas, so I'll ask myself, what is the trukk doing? I mean, is it wading through the water? Or revving full speed? THat kind of thing, it helps to tell a story I've found, even if the story ends up no where other than my own head.
I played with waves on this one, not very happy with them tbh, I'm still trying to master white water type effects the way they look in my head lol
Since this trukk was meant to be going relatively slower, I definitely feel like the muddy idea fits. And yeah I think the wheels need to be at least 'wet' looking in places - I originally had sand on them, but as you can figure, a complete sand/beach theme, without water, is pretty boring.
I'll definitely incorporate these ideas in my next one =D Plus it'll help differentiate from the others. And prolly can touch up this one, while I'm thinking about it.
While I've not had a ton of brain power, thanks to tiny Nurglings giving me the crud, I did manage to get some stuff built at least:
I put together my son's DE addons (basically all the Gangs of Commarragh box set
Got this bad boy put together - going to do some pretty minor (for me) conversion, as I do like to have at least a couple 'regular' kits of most of the orks stuffs
And my Terrain order came in... This is my big 2018 (and maybe 19... 20..) year project. I'm building a table of terrain to look like a Forge World. Besides some of the new terrain kits, I have a lot of pringle cans, PVC pipe and other bits that'll be helping (Because I'm not 100% crazy and buying all the kits from GW like I'd like to). I expect progress to be fairly slow, as I am also still trying to finish my ork army, but I'm excited to start in on this new project as well!

@Syro - thanks! I hope it lives up to your expectations
@Cam - awesome sauce! So far I also have a lot of window screening to use as the flooring (as a cover, not by itself). At least in places. I'm working out how to do girders, I asked Mel (theTerrainTutor) and mentioned using cut up pieces from that honeycombed plastic sign board.
Can't recall if I mentioned yet, my plan is to have two levels, with gantries, and stairs between the two. I am likely to order plasticard for the steps so I can get that diamond pattern easily.
Anyway plans are percolating!

Wow. That is a massive haul. GW hit a new high with this terrain. The detail is maddening. I have quite a lot of it and no matter how much work I put in it always has more... more... MORE to be done. I'll check back with you in 2020 and see how that particular project is going.
95040
Post by: Guildenstern
Lol @ Skalk - thanks! I might be done by then lol
Thanks Syro - it's kinda an organic process I've found (that's my excuse for it completely grows out of control and i have no idea what I'm doing!)
Here's our latest installation:
I think it's about ready for sand now, I wanted to build the dunes up a bit, to show where the sand had gathered over time, as the wind blew it etc. I think it's high enough to my liking now. I had to wait a good bit for my filler to dry. I did it in three layers to help with that as well. Normally I'd use something like Spackle but I'm out (it has this annoying tendancy to go bad here in GA, probably as it doesn't seal 100%)
62749
Post by: Dr H
I find it best to let a model grow/build itself. However strict your original plan may be sometimes a model will just want to go in a different direction and you shouldn't fight it.
Good work, Guild'.
101917
Post by: TerrainWalker
If by 'go bad' you mean turn stanky and grow mold, just throw a piece of plastic wrap on top of what's left in your bucket and smoosh it down into the spackle. That will prevent mold and drying since both need air. Good looking stuff as always - particularly the chessboard looking part of the build - I like that bit
95040
Post by: Guildenstern
Thanks Dr H - as they say, no plan survives contact with the enemy
Also ty TerrainWalker- that was what sorta started off this build, I was looking for a use for those blasted bazillion left over 20mm square bases lol! I had been thinking like maybe dungeon tiles but I like this better
By spackle "going bad", typically yeah, it either a) molds, or b) simply dries completely out >< I should have thought to stick some plastic wrap in there - great idea! It's just not air tight is the issue (lousy seal on the lids)
I think I'm getting on the home stretch finally here- working on the water effects mostly atm, after that I'll be doing a light dusting of sand (weathering powder) in strategic places, then I think it'll be done =D

Yeah, I just give up on the lid ever sealing correctly and sealed it with the plastic instead :p I don't know if it's a flaw in the lid design or junk just gets all up in there but it never fails to leak air
What weathering powder do you use for a sandy look? I've been meaning to try some out but I hate buying them and not liking them so they just sit on the shelf forever unused

I actually have a set of FW ones, that I got bundled with their two painting/converting books (well worth it imo). You use so little, generally, that it goes pretty far
I know some people grind up chalk to use. And there are pigments you can just buy (as in to mix paint with) that are available but I've not bothered to look quite yet, as mentioned, I already have a bunch.
Anyway the Sand one I tend to use is actually the Bone Dust. They also have the Dark Sand, but as implied it's a bit darker (still more khaki tho)

I am going to get out the lights here soon and take better pics of my best for the monthly painting contest but atm here they are "done":
As a reward for getting the Grots done I started working on my second Battlewagon =D
Started cleaning up these lil guys too - they are Sherman Chibi Tanks from GUTS and a good bit smaller really even than grot tanks would be, but I think they're adorable and I'ma convert em anyway
And I finally found the perfect Weirdboy model(s) for my army! When the new Fungoid Cave-Shaman came out I knew I needed to have him!! He's awesome and perfect for my army. I don't have any Weirdboys yet because I've never liked any of hte models before this. I also picked up the grot shaman because he also is cool, in case I need a second Weirdboy.

Really kinda annoyed with our weather it's waaaaay too humid to rattlecan prime :( And I have to clean up my mess of a desk to get out all my airbrushing supplies. Hopefully this weekend I'll find the time so I can actually get started on my buggies/gunz :( Also, hoping my plasticard order gets here so I can make some gun conversions for the skorchas.
Meanwhile, I did finish off the boy's DE reinforcemetns (Gangs of Commarragh box set). We'll probably be looking at getting him a couple flyers maybe, and some other stuffs but I am kind of hoping the codex will come out first, just so we don't buy too much/wrong things generally.
Working on the Fungoid Shaman as well, he's going to be my weirdboy (along with a goblin 'chanter).
Also discovered 7 more deffkoptas while I was unearthing my Iron Hands for SM month lol

I did some more work on my weirdboy model:

We finally had a good day with low humidity so I could prime! (without dragging out the airbrush)
I got a lot of stuff primed super fast, just wish I'd had more built tbh.
I worked on some barrels from the Munitorium set, that are going in the Skorchaz I'm working on, mostly rusting them up:
And I got more of the colours on, over the metals of the Skorchaz. I just need to build a couple more gun bits, a gunner, add some tubing/pipes/hose type things and then I can do the weathering:

Thanks guys! I had to move the box to where I can't see it lol although it helps I have gone through a LOT of bits building my last few conversions as well. I'm hoping my plasticard supplies come in soon. Funnily enough I ordered on amazon, from a new to me seller, but apparently they're in UK so it's gonna take a bit to get my stuff in. Worth it though, the prices and selection was a lot better. (My closest local store with hobby supplies of that sort apparently closed o.O and the next closest is 2 1/2 hours drive)
Finished the gun painting last night! I need to pin it on the back end I think so it'll be more secure, but that parts done. I might eventually make a supa skorcha version, as someone on twitter suggested just since the gun's big enough... but that's another day! gotta get through my backlog so I can start puttering with the Beast (baneblade).
I tried to do some OSL on the gun... not great but it sorta works I guess
This side came out better I think:
Anyway, now to finish the hoses and get the weathering done and they're done!

That big schorcha is looking great! I also can't wait to see what you do with that baneblade.

Love that scorcha, Brilliant work. The gun itself is awesome. Great work on the OSL, just keep plugging away at it, you have got a nice subtle look going there.

once again thank you all Really had a lot of fun making and building these. I just finished the last licks of paint on them, so I started (and finished) weathering them all today. Hopefully, my next project will be my new terrain board here shortly.
Anyway, finished Skorcha pics:
I also finished my Battlewagon up, since it was really just waiting to be weathered (except its base is still in process):
And I finished a group of Luna Wolves, my poor neglected 30k army that I haven't worked on for forever:

GW Promethium Refinery kit (just dryfitted atm):
Some assembling and gluing starting!

My computer's been down (had to replace video card sigh) so I haven't been updating much, but I've been working steadily away at my projects. I got all my Forgeworld (Mechanicus) terrain together and primed. I also assembled my box of BaC to augment my Luna Wolves forces. I did some work on some DE for my son, who wanted Trueborn DE.
The group of them - they're from Sisters and Kabalite parts, fairly easy conversions, tho some arms were a bit iffy
And his leader:
Assembled Luna Wolves:
Also did the Razorbacks in the back there. They're probably going to be Iron Hand Rhinos, mostly - I left the turrets off so they can just be placed on, with a magnet to help them stay stabilized. I'm planning on adding them to my soon to be ( TM) Ratticus Mechanicus army, to go with the Iron Hand detachment I'm working on, and getting some FW Deimos Rhinos for my Luna Wolves.

Yeah =/ I've a spare in atm, but it's not very good tbh. Still, gets me online ^_^
I still haven't managed to prime my Luna Wolves bleh.
I did get some of my terrain started anyway, I'm just getting pieces ready for when I start actually building my table.
This just a general use piece, I got on sale from Impudent Mortal, it's one of four. Really like thes buildings. Roofs aren't glued down so they'll come off easily.
And my sector mechanicus stuffs:
They're very basically just drybrushed and washed atm.

I don't know why but this guy screams runtherd to me...would love for my ork army Automatically Appended Next Post: Guildenstern wrote:thanks Dr H!
sadly I won't be able to work on him much longer for a bit, heading to my sisters for a couple weeks. So he'll have to get done in October but the kit should hopefully be here by then too.
Anyway, just about forgot to update this with my new MANz unit (Kromlech Juggernaut) - only have 1 in progress atm, the other 2 are just primed. I was dithering about what weapons to give them til I got my xenos book but finally just decided to go for it and worry about it later. Planning on buying more MANz anyway - I do like the GW version too, I just wanted some variety and Kromlech orks are awesomesauce.
This guy is a bit further along than he is in this picture, I'm currently working on pinwashes and edgehighlighting as the contrast isn't as bright as I liked it in areas. Even with highlighting, which just seems to be blending in.
I love all kromlech pieces, been wanting to get a set of these to go along with their kan koptas I have. seeing your awesome work decided for me

Haha thanks =D
Burt is an insane model (really good in my list too!). He'd make a great runtherd - lots of fiddly thin bits though, be forewarned, if you do pick him up.
Kromlech stuff is sooo addicting >< omg I love their stuff so much. I have two other 'not' meganobz I'm working on too. Their resin is soo clean, hardly a mold line to be seen. I keep looking at it, thinking I see one, nope it's a tiny wire!
I have a bunch of their torsos I got for my war bikers, and some heads as well - not finished painting them either =/ but again, really cool stuff. Takes a bit of finagling (greenstuff) sometimes to use their heads with GW ork bodies, otherwise they're really awesome.
My computer's been annoying of late so I haven't been on it as much as my twitter/instagram. But I've been working more on my Luna Wolves, my Forgeworld Terrain and some of my son's stuff. Not much to really see at present, as it's been mostly basecoating.
First WIP of next group of Luna Wolves though:

Started working on my Ork Warbikers finally - getting the custodes conversions first.
And Saturday was an awesome game, we went up to Atlanta to play Horus Heresy with friends. My first game really. I played my Luna Wovles (1600 pts) with a new friend's Imperial Fists versus my other friends 3k Alpha Legion. I pretty much took a lot of advice from Dorn lol so we won but it was actually really hard fought. Especially with all the 6s Alpha Legion kept rolling omg.
pretty much how I was set up the entire time except another rhino on the left out of the shot.
And the big boy fr Alpha Legion coming in
Beautiful model, still WIP obviously. As is a lot of my own army. I was proxying the dreadnought as a Deredeo, which is just a freakin awesome machine. Wow, it did a lot of work. Also, independant tracking is love. I really needed to put more on my Landraider, and dozers on the Rhinos though, but thus we learn.
And my hubby bought me an actual Deredeo for Mother's Day/my birthday this month so I'm really excited!
*edit*
wanted a family pic so to speak, so here's all my Luna Wolves (some obviously very much WIP)

Daww thanks Cam =D
I prolly should have finished these guys after doing the 'normal' warbikers lol Now I am kinda meh about doing the regular ones =/ but anyway the Custorkz are done! I gave up on battle damage at least for now... the metal colour doesn't lend itself to it, and I have qualms about actually damaging those models (cuz they're purdy!)

Those are some sweet looking conversions, I can see why it might be tough to go back to normal warbikers

I'm puzzled: you used the words 'normal', 'ork' and 'warbikers' all in the same sentence?
