So here the miniature.
Let see how it look near all my other chaos figures. So many colors...

The only other similar miniature is that Huntik toy.

This one was a blast, I made it in a day and it is all toy. The torso of a Gormiti toy, the leg of a dragon keychain, the arms of a Digimon toy and the rest is from a toy spider. The original idea was to make a cave troll, but in the end I got this strange glowing alien.

Funny story about this thing.
Not about the making, it is my usual toybash: a random slug toy and a lot of Warhammer bits.
No, the funny story is I forgot this poor guy near the heater when it was half done and the paint and the plastic melted. You can notice it pretty clearly on the spear.
Well, I finished it anyway.

It is said that no plan survives contact with the enemy - here is the one about the "heat of the battle" . Being able to joke about such mishaps is a part of the happy hobby, I think. Congrats anyway! It is still a very wacky model and now it's got its own story.

Something different. Fenryll demi-orcs. I think it means half-orc.
They are one piece resin, with the base already sculpted in. That's unfortunate, I'd like to rebase them, but the resin is too brittle to try.
Nice sculpts, they are very old school, perfect for dnd.

But I like the eyes.
In the end is a big boar-cow-dinosaur thingie.

Some heroclix miniatures painted as yetis and an Ice devil.
Plus a couple of more artic terrain and a saberthoot tiger I had around.
I don't know if you can see it, but I have dry brushed a little drop of silver paint on the blue to make it shine a little. It's very pretty up close.
The bases are poker chips, very cheap alternative.
The painting was very simple. Gray paint, blue wash and then a lot of white drybrush.

No fancy title this time.
Here an update on the last miniatures I panted.
First of all some Fenryll bandits.
The Fenryll lines is perfect for dirt and quick washes, but unfortunately they are a solid piece, with the base attached. And they are so fragile that I don't take the risk to rebase them.
Also, bandit #2, nice mullet.
Then some undead, from Heroquest to some Fantasy football, plus a knight.

Long story short, I bought the game Runewars and one of its expansions. A game for 3 people with 60 miniature at 50€ it's not a bad deal.
The miniatures are a little flexible but they are easy to build. No customization at all and no extra bits, it's a very easy game, good for new people in the hobby.
Some sculpts are very good, most are generic but detailed. Worst case scenario, you can prox a full undead Warhammer army for 50 bucks.
Here some pictures.

Some very dark photos (you are welcome cloudy autumn) for this mordheim band of druchii. I'm still missing 2 beasts for the beastmaster, but I don't know what to use.
I had not so much parts for this band, so it is a little 40k-ish.

Yup, another one.
I finally painted all my mummies and they are enough to make another band for Mordheim. To tell the truth I lack a couple of scorpions, for now I'm going to use the 3 vultures instead. This was a lot, I wanted a Daemon Engine for my dwarves, but I found no solution for a steampunk slave-collecting murder machine. In the end I simplified the concept and with the help of various cheap toys and bits I made a simple cage on wheels. It works, I think.

This one is a no-brainer, you only need to find the right resources. The small pebbles are from a bag of decorative sand for fish tanks. The bigger ones are for home decor. They are both transparent plastic and for some reason they hate superglue. To be honest, superglue can work, but it takes ages. It's better to use hot glue or pva glue.
In the end you only need to glue together everything, it's like flocking. I drybrushed a little of black and gray to show the crystals are being digged out.

Long time no see, I was very busy. Recently, I found a very promising bit of packaging and I decided to finally make some terrain. Here is a step by step gallery of the project. First, composition. Not a lot of work here, the packaging was already looking like a hangar, I simply cut half of it with a knife and glue it together with toothpicks and school glue.
Then 3 coat of glue+water+sand+paint.
Beads and skewers as details and stairs.
These beads to be precise.
Some dressing made with paper and corrugated cardboard. The re numbers and other posters are small scraps from a newspaper.
Drybrush, drybruks, drybrush. And a brown wash later here we are.
The front door is only dry fit, so I can drive my rhino inside.
And I can use toy guns for firepower.
More dressing, made with toy parts.
And more newspaper scraps for posters.
And next? I'm working on some toy soldiers stuff to add some obstacles on the table.
What do you think? I'm very happy with the result, and it took a little more than an afternoon.

From the high quality appearance, it looks like it should have taken more than an afternoon- great work!
I also dry-fit a door into a project from long ago and far away so the interior of the structure could be used as a tank garage- I like the weathered, realistic look yours has. The extra bits and bobs you've crafted add that element of detail that makes a colored piece of packaging a real set-piece of terrain.
I'm very fortunate in that my better half not only doesn't chide me for seizing on every bit of plastic and foam that comes into the house- she saves things for me to see if I want them!
Here's to the better halves, God bless 'em!
More pics of progress work, please.

After the big fortress I still was in a terrain mood. So here some more scatter terrain. Some is old, some is new, but it is all for my WH 40k little guys.
Some toy soldier stuff, the cannon is decent once painted.

The big guy is finally done and with some decent photos too. This is a toy from the "how to train your dragon" movie with a new face and a tail to make it looks like a fairytale troll. The small boar on his shoulder is a decorative bead. I tried a lot of new techniques on this guy, so it looks a little bit different from my usual style.
I have no intention to play with him, so the base is not legal for any game, but I think he can fit well in Mordheim. Barbarian for scale.

I saw a lot of tutorials on the argument, so I wanted to try. I have one of those free stormcaster and a discounted set of 3 metallic sharpies, so let's try. The only thing I conceded was a black undercoat and some touches of black where I slipped.
First of all, the silver was dry out of the box. Now I know why the pack was on a discount.
The results are meh, but consider this: no glue, no paint (except the black undercoat), it took 20 minutes and it is tournament legal.
Food for thoughts.

That’s pretty impressive results for a few pens and 20mins! Could be an option for freehand projects I suppose?

Here we go with another project, because I have not yet enough.
I want to make a mordheim Kurgan (marauders of chaos) warband.
But only with old models. I'm looking for old Talisman or heroquest-like models. Possibly without breaking the bank.
Do you know other barbarian-looking monopose models from the 90s?
1
106331

Yes, I'm still alive.
I'm also in a very old school mood lately, so I bought some very old models and here the first test for a small band of humans.

Nice halberdier! Battlemasters?
As for monopose Barbarians with a similar aesthetic and size to 90s GW, the best option is probably Fantasy Armies barbarians. I think they were sculpted by Mark Copplestone in the early 90s and they are carried today by Merliton and EM4. A nice deep range with all manner of weapons options, leaders, shaman and even mounted options. Very affordable too.

You're very welcome. Where is the shield emblem from? It's a great addition.
I used WHFB shield emblems to improve the shields on the Battlemasters figures I used as the core of my Chaos army.
Chaos warriors and knights got emblems from the Skeletons set and the Beastmen shields got Skaven emblems.
106331
Post by: The Brave
Not sure about the emblem, it was in the bit box. Someone suggested it maybe be from a Black Templars kit.
84491
Post by: gobert
Those old BattleMasters minis hold up well I think, the Black Templar icon on his shield is a great idea. Good luck sourcing some more barbarians. I’ve bought stuff from em4, they were really fast and very well priced!

Post by: The Brave
I made this band last summer, but I never took decent photos of it. These photos are not decent, but at least they are new. The miniatures are a mix of GW and Kings of War stuff (I think) and they should both work as Cult of the Possessed and Carnival of Chaos bands for Mordheim. Even if they are very Slaaneshy. The paintjob is nothing spectacular, but I'm particularly happy of the 2 demon clowns.

Here another project I wanted to make for a long time. An 80's style warband. Something it looks like it came from an He-man cartoon. Unfortunately I have not enough old monopose miniatures for a full warband, so I added some more modern miniatures. They will be replaced in the future, maybe. I'm also lacking monster men with the right look. Maybe some old Warhammer lizardmen?
The monopose are from Talisman, warhammer quest, dark world, Battle master and harlequin miniatures. The big snake is a toy, but it fits. As for rules: this should work as Kurgan (marauder of chaos) warband for Mordheim. But mostly as a d&d encounter.

I finally finished this big project, thanks to Gork and Mork for the speedpaints!
So many miniatures!
I tried to make this as oldhammer and cheap as possible.
Almost all the minis are from boardgames or are very common old plastic miniatures, the damaged one where kitbashed.
The only exceptions are the troll and the squigs. Because I don't want to pay those old metal buggers as jewelry. And the new plastic ones are too modern. So, all the squigs you see are sculpted by me, or are cheap toys I found at the thrift store.
Other notes: the troll is from bones reaper,it fits very well with the monopose look. The shaman is kitbashed from a damaged orc archer. It's a bit more dynamic than the others, but I don't want to pay gold for an old shaman. I have a painted weirdboy around that can fit the band, but I don't want to strip the paintjob.
One of the heroes is a 40k ork with a new bow.
The orc "rogue" it's from Dark World.

A fun "little" project after the orcs. This started as a way to make me like the Stormcasters. I had 3 or 4 of those free minis that GW sometimes gifts around and I wanted an excuse to paint gold. In the end a friend suggested to instead use those bits to make a small band of Thunder Warriors, an unit I never heard off.
A quick Google search and I liked the idea, so kitbash it was. The recipe is simple, mostly stormcast bodies, old and space marine arms, cadian heads, orc hair (except one guy who has a demonette scalp, because I finished the orc heads) and a bit of sculpting to blend it together, plus a big fluffy mantle.
I received some comments on the wips, so here the answers.
What colors did you used? Vallejo's gold, bronze and silver paints, agrax shade and Army Painter's speedpaints.
The weapons/the insignia are not lore accurate. I don't care. That's what I had around.
Why don't you used/sculpted goggles, as in Blanche's illustrations? I don't like the goggles. Too goofy for my taste. And I have no goggled heads.
The weapon choice is sub-optimal for a kill team. Those are the bits I had.

Last bunch of minis for this year.
This, as usual, began as an easy and quick project and in the end was longer than expected.
I tried a lot of new things for these gobbos. First of all, they are not green. The orange goblins are more a D&D thing, but I think it works. Also, I'm tired of painting greenskins.
They are mostly build from old skaven bodies, lizardfolk and goblin arms, various feathers and goblin heads and shields. The exception it's the more feral one that is made with a ghoul body and arms.
Some of them have 5 fingers, some 4. I don't care.
Now they need a leader and like 12 more gobbos.
