Grapevine also just broke ground on a fairly large new commercial and events development just a couple blocks south of that location. So that area's going to see even more traffic than it already does.
Ghaz wrote: They also have their Facebook page up with the store address and it looks like it will be HERE.
Very nice - on Main Street and not stuffed into a mall.
Looks like a decent area however, I have the feeling that the people in charge of choosing the location are completely ignorant to the concept of personal transportation and the required parking associated with it.
We know the floor space is 4000 sq.ft and let's assume GW expects to have 2 employees on site. They should have 15 parking spots minimum.

There's somewhere north of 100+ parking spaces within a 5 minute (quarter mile) walk.
I honestly wouldn't be shocked if they put a 1 hour maximum on the six spaces in front so 'all day' players don't clog the few 'prime' spots.
Albino Squirrel wrote: When you're trying to transport an army somewhere for a game, a five minute walk on busy sidewalks isn't really ideal.
There's not a lack of retail parking off Main, but all but six spaces are going to more than a 20 foot walk. I don't disagree regarding convenient 'army transport' parking, but that was an issue at the Mills before.
Perhaps they will have a space or two reserved for 15 minute 'army unloading' only parking right in front of the store. (Or if they don't... "suggestion box" time.)
+++Poor Behavior Alert+++ The Boss just left, so I decided to be a bit of a rebel. Over the weekend I'll be "leaking" some W.I.P shots of what we're up to for the Citadel. Here's the first pic. Keep spreading the word and liking the page. #StormtheCitadel #Whatareweuptonow
Hehehehehehe! Hey folks, if I don't get in any trouble over this, I'll have a cool announcement next week about the Citadel. For now, just enjoy more leaked behind the scenes pics. What do you think we're building? #Whatareweupto #Hehasntfoundoutyet #StormtheCitadel
I will drive by the address they have posted (I basically pass by there every day, on my way home). If there is anything to interesting. Ill make it known here.
EDIT: I stopped by the store, looks to only just have signed paperwork as the store just has "New Warhammer Store coming soon" on all the existing windows. Ill try and make a point to drive past it every week or so and provide info if I can.

But wait, there's more. Most of tables in the Cafe are board games sized. More on that tomorrow. One last thing, our events will not be limited to the number of tables on site (and that's all I can say about that.). Here are some teaser pics of the tables we have worked on so far. So 14 tables in store, and the promise events are limited to those boards.
Reckon they'll be hiring venues local to them for bigger tournaments?
Also, how does 14 gaming tables compare to your average (is there such a thing?) FLGS?

Compared to the other stores in the area I visit, one has 2, two of them have 3, and the last has 14. I'm not sure about mid-cities and Ft. Worth side. Warhammer Citadel will for sure be one of the highest number of table stores.

14 is pretty good. We don't often go above 30 people in a tournament.
The main Dallas Area store has 12-15 I believe. But it also has lots of terrain on shelfs along the walls and caters to all miniature gaming, not just GW products. It also has plenty of parking. The issue with Main Street is that there are so many local shops, as others have said you will have to walk. I go often to eat at Jakes, and always park near the church, which is a probably 2-3 minute walk.

Well today is the day, and a deal is a deal. First of all thank you for sharing all of the posts. You did it! We are proud to announce that the Warhammer Citadel is going to open its doors June 9th and 10th at noon! Make sure to sign up for the event (see the events section), and bring all of your friends.
The second bit of information is that the Citadel WILL carry Forgeworld products. Yep folks, that is what the big project was/is that we are working on. We’ve spent the last few weeks building a ton of Forgeworld models for the display case. (see pics below)
Make sure you get down here on opening weekend. Not only will there be a large selection of Forgeworld on sale, but there will be lots of Warhammer Citadel exclusives. We will also have the Limited Edition Space Marine Captain, and all sorts of additional cool Warhammer products. This is big news, so please share this post with as many people as you can!

Just thought I would add the following which I found useful since I am one of those who don't frequent the area but definately planning a visit probably the second weekend they are open. If your visits are after 5 PM or on weekends it looks like there maybe plenty of parking reasonably close by next to the Grapevine visitor center.
Ok guys, we have some bad news, and some great news.
We’re gonna give you the bad news first, but then follow up with the great news, so stay with us…
Bad news first – we’ve had to postpone the Grand Opening of the Warhammer Citadel in Grapevine Texas. We know, we know – you were super excited to attend, and we were excited to welcome you. We know a lot of you already had your plans and tickets booked to travel to the event at the world’s first Warhammer Store and Cafe, on the 9th and 10th of June.
Don’t you worry though, your journey will not be in vein.
What do you do when you can’t open a store on the day you wanted?
You throw an awesome party, that’s what!
We’ve scouted the local area and secured a great space in the local DFW Doubletree hotel.
Everything we were planning to run at our Grand Opening weekend, will now be there, and more!
Not content to just move our celebration, we’ve expanded it to a full-on mini-convention including gaming, shops and free tournaments – one for Warhammer Age of Sigmar and one for Warhammer 40,000.
How cool is that!
Can’t open a store? Run a convention!
We have got so much cool stuff planned for you:
Forge World items on sale*
Featured theme tables to play on
Displays of Warhammer Relics
Exclusive store merchandise
2 official tournaments to play in
If you want to reserve your place in one of these tournaments, make sure you sign up now in the events section of the Warhammer Citadel Facebook page.
The new venue at the DFW Doubletree, is closer to the airport, and it also includes shuttle service from the airport and to the local area. Being a hotel, if you’re travelling in from out of town, you can even book a room at the venue itself. It also has a huge dedicated parking lot – ideal if you’re driving in.
We’re all set for a great event, and we hope you can join us.
Ever since we got the news the Citadel Opening would have to be postponed, all of our efforts have been put into making this as right as we could for you. We hope you will be satisfied with this alternative event.
The Citadel location will open, that’s for sure. And when it comes, the opening will be incredible, and we will throw just as much effort into that. We will announce the official opening date as soon as we are certain that NOTHING will get in our way of delivering it to you. If this has caused you any travel issues, we’ve set up a direct line you can call to talk to one of us, one on one.
The number is 972 518 3205.
See you very soon,
– The Warhammer Citadel Team
* Plus any orders you placed to pick up at the grand opening.
Kudos to GW for turning it into a convention instead. At least they recognized that there may be a lot of people who already booked travel and such for this.
I wonder what the reason for the delay is. Maybe some permits for the cafe side of it are still pending or anything.

Odds are they never had to deal with US contractors and building permits which are always behind schedule.
I'll still have to go check it out. Honestly, I think I am more motivated to go now that it is a convention style. Maybe they will have the Necron Walker by then.
North American gamers – your very own Warhammer gaming venue (and café) is on its way! On August 25th and 26th, the Warhammer Citadel, located at 616 S Main Street in Grapevine, Texas, will be celebrating its grand opening – and they have some incredible plans to make the weekend a memorable one.
There will be games galore, including huge narrative play games for Warhammer Age of Sigmar and The Horus Heresy, plus an immense three-part Warhammer 40,000 game with a unique interwoven narrative that will encompass aerial battles, close quarters combat between kill teams and mighty god-engines marching!
Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire Organised Play will also give you a chance to delve into the City of Mirrors and claim victory with your warband – so grab your cards and start building that killer deck.
As well as all the gaming, there will be painting workshops running across the weekend alongside competitions testing your skills at both speed painting and speed building. There will also be a Hobby Showcase painting competition where you can show off your skills with the brush.
Of course, being a grand opening, there will also be a plethora of exclusive items available on the day, along with swag bags – and don’t forget that the Warhammer Citadel also has a range of Forge World models available in store!
Tickets for the event will go live this Saturday the 4th of August – check out the Events section of the Warhammer Citadel Facebook page to see how to get yours.
The mighty Warhammer Citadel will open its doors for the first time at the Grand Opening event on August 25th, and we have the privilege of revealing two special guests who will be joining the throngs of excited hobbyists on the day.
Becca Scott Actor and all-around gaming guru Becca Scott will there to meet and greet and talk about all things Warhammer. For those who have been hiding under a rock for the past few months (and who are we to judge?), Becca was also our special presenter for the How to Play video series for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. If you haven’t done so already, check out these great videos here.
Spoiler:
Sarah Kaiser Artist and Tech-Adept Sarah Kaiser will also be welcoming the hordes at the Warhammer Citadel Grand Opening. Amongst her many other talents, Sarah has been responsible for creating loads of great art for the Warhammer Community team, (including our Thanksgiving and Christmas cards) and creating life-size Space Marines weaponry worthy of the forges of Belisarius Cawl himself!
Spoiler:
The Grand Opening is shaping up to a true hobby extravaganza! The portcullis to the Warhammer Citadel will be lifted at 10:00 am on the day.
I’m actually in the area for the rest of the week on business. I’m seriously contemplating just extending my stay and going, but I’m not sure what to expect. I don’t want to go through the effort of getting another car and hotel just to be disappointed.
I'll be there on Saturday to check it out, but probably not for long. I'm not a social person, and there will probably be way too many people i don't know for me to handle for long.

I went and it was a blast. It was pretty decently sized and I chatted with a number of people that came in from out of state for the "opening"/convention. Even though it wasnt officially open, I went to their store location and walked in (some guy was painting inside). Its about 4,000 square feet, so lots of space. Their FW selection at the convention was limited but in all fairness there was a decent selection (at least IMO). They had a number of neat props and paintings and such too. I was glad to have made the drive out there.

That’s great to hear! I’m looking forward to it, especially after a pretty stressful and exhausting week.
I’ll be the skinny guy with a beard and bald head wearing a blue confetti pattern button down shirt - give me a poke and say hi, especially you shy guys like Tannhauser!
I know they're more or less Warhammer celeb-spokespeople, but it made me cringe seeing the "hey look, we'll have two...FEMALES there! Come on out!" lol.
Congrats to any of the Texas guys though for having a potentially decent spot to go game. If they manage to make good coffee/food...even better.
Yeah, just drove by, saw that line, and said "feth that". At least the drive isn't a total loss. I'm at the Breadhaus a few blocks away getting some goodies.
There was supposed to be. But I imagine that the models would appear on the GW community page at the same time based on recent history, and nothing there yet.
Ghaz wrote: Don't forget that there will be a preview seminar at the NOVA Open next week.
I'd expect Delaque and possibly a first look at the nightvault wh underworlds stuff. I hope I hate all of it, cause the last thing I need is more stuff.
I just got back. The place is great, they have tons of every GW kit you can think of. Lots of FW, guy told me He wasn’t sure all they had because of volume of sales. Looked like they had most of the books as well. You get free shipping if you order with them. Plenty of Black Library, game tables, the works. The cafe looks like a basic coffee shop set up. I didn’t take too close a look though. They may serve more. It’s definitely worth going.
I'm in the UK so i can't check it myself, but i'm curious what the exclusive stuff is and if it's the same sort of thing as the Warhammer World exclusives. Is there a list anywhere or does anyone know what they are?
I saw the FW Cataphractii Terminator and traitor psycher for HH. Also a couple warlord titan heads but I didn’t pay too much attention to them. They had a couple other models at the register but I didn’t wait in line so I didn’t see what they were. I did hear one of the employees call one model by captain. Those were packaged like GW stuff. I probably should have taken a look at them.

ooh, mars beta head? And were the SM command tanks there?
The models at the counter were the plastic Terminator Captain with grenade launcher and the plastic Terminator Chaplain. Also available were Warhammer Citadel dice, numbered challenge coins, dice trays, signed Kaiser prints and post cards, some signed books (not sure which ones).
Back in the cafe part were some Black Library posters and mugs.
Not sure if any of those are still in stock as I decided not to stay for the pub quiz and left about five hours ago, nor do I know which were limited to just the grand opening and which are regular exclusives for the Citadel.
Exclusives that ran out before I got to the counter were included shot glasses, (different) coffee mugs, and what I think were keychains. Again, don't know which were stricly for the grand opening.
Cafe looked neat, lots of themed drinks and hand painted decor. Replica Imperial and Eldar gear along one wall. A servo skull hanging from the ceiling that I hope was a functioning security camera. Nice seating and a lot of it, some basically set up for spectators of games/presentations/etc. Other seating had nice, big tables for taking advantage of the cafe's selection of GW board games available for play including Gretchen! and the Space Marine Adventures game.
Edit: I was hoping but did not see the Space Marine command tanks, but it was a busy place. If I overlooked them someone please correct me.
Second edit: the plastic Terminator Captain and Chaplain are grand opened only, but those are the only two I know for sure.

bit disappointed they didn't go with "Thirst and Only", but Tanith tea is acceptable.

I'm so far out of Age of Sigmar's consumer-zone, I didn't bother responding to the troll reveal. It's nicely sculpted if you're into that kind of aesthetic, but it's just another one on the pile for me --- they're so far from the classical fantasy aesthetic that I don't imagine I'll end up going into any form of Warhammer Fantasy. This troll looks to me like it should be in a film like Labyrinth, etc. GW is definitely making their own bizarro-fantasy aesthetic, but it's completely lost on me. Shame really as I've owned a lot of GW fantasy kits in the past for old things like Warhammer Quest, and various dungeon crawls.
I like the Troggoth, but do agree that it’s busy. The real bummer with a model like that is that they’ll all look just like that, which is noticeable because it’s so distinctive. Still like it, though

You're not just in NoVa...you're in Arlington, lol. Jeez. When I was in AZ paying $650 for a decent apartment my sister was in Arlington, much smaller apartment at something like $1400...nooooo thanks. I grew up in NoVa but have NO desire to ever go back.

It depends which 'classical fantasy aesthetic' you're referring to. I'll grant it isn't either Conan or LotR, but it's very fairy tale. It's the kind of thing I'd expect in slightly over-written tales about Seelie and Unseelie Courts, where the bumbling hero literally stumbles over a fungi-fied troll in cave or clearing.
Not sure how they'll jam that into Age of Sigmar, but I have the same question about Fallout Dwarfs and Flying Shark Elfs.
Voss wrote: Not sure how they'll jam that into Age of Sigmar, but I have the same question about Fallout Dwarfs and Flying Shark Elfs.
..Huh, really? One look was all it took to remind me of the Fungoid Cave-Shaman. I imagine the new troll will be the big guy/heavy hitter for a Fungoid Grots.
Didn't they say the Troll was coming to Warhammer Underworlds? He might be more busy because he's part of the grot crew, rather than a kit we might see.
Their Facebook page says they're open on Mondays, so I'll be heading up there today. Maybe they'll still have some scraps left. Their hours, however, are just way too limited. Close at 6 on Monday, and at 7 Tuesday-Friday. Guess they don't want anybody getting a game in after work/school. And evenings is when downtown Grapevine really gets busy, too.

When he says NoVA, he's talking about the place, not the event. NoVA is short for Northern Virginia, which while an argument could be made that you are a captive audience since driving around NoVA can make you feel that way sometime the reason for the high prices is just in general how expensive the cost of living is in the area. We regularly rank in the top 10 most expensive areas in the US to live. All of that government spending means the area is fairly recession proof as well as all of the extra money in general that is injected from the federal government into the local economy.
When you say NoVA this time of year on a forum such as Dakka then one automaticaly makes the connection. Plus it doesn't help that it seems like Kid_Kyoto moves almost monthly

Uh, yeah. Obviously he goes with that one $35 hero. And if there is some cave in the Realm of Life where fungus is so abundant it grows on its inhabitants, fine. It works for a model or two. If all future night gobbos (and assorted allies/lackeys) everywhere (including the realms of fire, metal, light, etc) are festooned with mushroom growths, I've got questions.
If it's just a specific band for Underworlds, then whatever. Non-issue.
