Why the Second legion disappeared.(possible name the Enlightened?)

The Second Primarch was whisked away like his 19 other Brothers. But instead
of being send to a war torn planet, he was send to the planet Gautama, were
people followed the Buddhist believes. He was found by local Buddhist Monks,
Instantly noticing that this kid was special they names him Siddhartha,
after Buddha himself, He was taken to temple and trained in the Buddhist
teachings and the martial arts. He bested all comers with his martial
skill but he was known for his kindness and piety.

When The Emperor finally landed he did not find are hardened fighter but a
peacefull spiritual leader. I know why you have come father, i will try to
bring peace to this stricken universe. And During the great Crusade he was
several times criticised by the Emperor by not taken a planet by force. Most
of his planets were gained by peacetreaties and mutual pacts even with
Aliens! (most of these planets were taken back forcefully after the Horus
Heresy and the Xenos filth was eradicated). Siddhartha, became more and more
disenchanted with his Fathers ways, He thought he found in Horus someone
with the same convictions, But after Davin Horus Changed, And Siddhartha
knew That Horus lost his way. Siddhartha tried to reason With Horus, but
after almost a fight broke out between Abbadon and Siddhartha, Siddhartha
removed himself from the crusade, He sent a message to the emperor, but the
Chaos powers made sure that message reached the emperor all Garbled up. The
Only thing the Emperor and His staff could make from it is that His Pacifist
Son and his chapter had gone rogue. Angry because of his son's treachery he
commanded that all records of Siddhartha chapter should be deleted from the
records. (the emperor did not know yet of Horus treachery and Siddhartha was
low on the emperors favourite son's list). He called for a strike on
Siddhartha's home world, but by the time the Army reached Gautama the
population was gone. Siddhartha and his fleet were allready on his way to
uncharted space.

Ideas for the army;
Dark Angel and certain Black Templar bodies would be perfect as Battle
Monks, Scouts would be more difficult as they need all to have shave head
and monk robes (eastern style). Close combat weapons could inspired by
ancient Indian weapons and/or Chinese budhist armies. Color would light
orange.

Rules?
Well there should be a dice roll for battle to determine if there is a fight
at all! so if the roll would succeed (for example on a 6) there would be
peacefull resolution resulting in a draw (Damn no battle :p) Furthermore
Siddhartha army will always go second as they only fight back when fired
upon.

Ideas suggestions, fluffwise and conversions are appreciated

You need to add more details to them to make them look more Buddhist. Its good idea, just needs more to make them look like they are based on it.

Asherian Command , i checked lots of Buddhists groups and just picked the colors i liked (and it 40k later so i diverged a little bit )

Extremely well thought fluff, I like it. However-

Recent writings have shown that the two unknown legions were lost prior to the Heresy. They are referred to as the forgotten and purged. It is rumoured by some members of the Word Bearers Legion that the Astartes from one, if not both, of these unknown Legions were inducted into the Ultramarines after their Primarchs were 'forgotten'. You might want to change it up a bit, so people don't give you weird faces when you tell them.

I like your painting, but you could use a bit more detail. Maybe highlights, or some shadowing/wash.

thanks for the heads up, i have read the most horus heresy books and they changed the canon so much, let's say my chapter is a What if timeline.

i am stuck with tamiya paint in Japan, and drybrushing has always been my go to skill, but i miss the old paints, these days the paints just dry too fast

I see. Doesn't your local store stock GW paints?

Nice and novel approach to SM! I like the rule that if the die is cast a certain way, no battle takes place and counts as a draw, a very unique rule indeed

started to add a new squad thanks to anvil productions new Robed torsos and legs.

As a Buddhist myself, I find it strange that Space Marines would become Buddhists themselves. The concept of constant change seems impossible when Space Marines are so strongly indoctrinated into their "rank and file". Buddhists have to be able to follow their heart and it seems that Space Marines would be entirely incapable of this. Also, if there were Buddhist Space Marines, they would resist augmentation and other biological/technological exploits, including power armor. The fact that all things can and will be destroyed and reconstituted indefinitely is one of the central Buddhist beliefs and this goes against the usual Space Marine attitudes of undying faith in the Emperor, faith, etc.

All that aside, I like what you have done, I would have preferred to see more orange robes, as orange is a more sacred color. It would be nice to see some mandalas on their armor and robes. Another novel idea would be to base them as if they were running through waves of rainbow colored sand, as if they were destroying a large mandala.

Thanks for the comments, well if you can have vampire marines, werewolf marines and fanatical marines, why not buddhists? well i did some research and colors depend on the buddhist sect . There have been Japanese warrior monks.I just liked the idea of space marine legion that use war as a last resort.

I absolutely love Space Marines with a strong theme, and yours is not only unique but also optically very strong! Looking forward to what is still coming,,,
Will there be Librarians bearing a third eye? dreadnoughts featuring Bodhisattva themes? Chaplains with those yellow "smurf hats"? Stupas and mani stones as goal markers? strings of prayer flags decorating the vehicles?

I used to use Tamiya red but curently it started to dry up unevenly, so i switched to red from DR.color (which has a slight gloss to it) the other colores are Tamiya yellow, brown, black, gun metal, white and flesh color.

Are there going to be any Zen monks in the army? Maybe for a color shake up. Grey and white would look pretty cool for a special unit.

You could decorate the Rhinos with Buddha statues that you might find at tourist stores. I know that when I was in Nara last fall, they had a wide variety and pretty cheap too.

Loving those robbed bodies too.

As a side note about the robe colors earlier in the thread:

Thailand: Famous for the Saffron robes. Like your Marines.
Chinese/Korean: Brown, Grey, or Blue
Japanese: Black or Grey with kesa
Tibet: Red.

Well my first attempt in casting went not as planned, used GS before with reasonable success

i used Vaseline but it interacted with the resin and destroyed the mold when pulled it off, back to the drawing board!

I really like the strong contrast between the red and yellow on those marines, and that chaplain is is pretty cool- the Buddhist theme is evident, but it's not overwhelming.

I like the scratch built rhino dude. I do a lot of scratch building and some of my freinds have pointed out that if i invested the amount of extra time that i spent on a scratch build actually working, i could have easily afforded to buy the model. For me it comes to the fact that i enjoy the challenge and the fact that my final product ensured a limited profit for GW and a fun art project for myself. Same reason for yoU?

I agree with you, i bought a lot of stuff to built this little tank, it is the first true Scratch built i tried, mostly i just turn model kits into 40k things, it is also a learning process to try someting new.
And this army started as a gimmick, i don't want to buy to much for it.

If a cross leg conversion could be worked out well it would be awesome to see a marine cross legged in mediation floating over the base and call it a Librarian.

I like the idea, sculpting a cross legged in a robe, is maybe doable.

Used Bolt pistol and chainsword on my next Buddhist marines.

I had come up with the idea of the second being black and orange and had dubbed them the Storm Vipers. They were from a rainforest deathworld and based largely on Mayan/Aztec culture and looks. They specialized in chem/bio warfare and preferred preemptive strikes and wiped themselves and the 11th out in one big bloody misunderstanding (similar to the Thousand Sons) when the 11th was sent to bring them in for questioning on their tactics but they attacked with their preferred preemptive style believing their brothers had betrayed them.

Working on a Chapter Champion and the guys in the back still need to be finished.

Changed the spear to a more appropriate weapon for my Buddhists Chapter Champion and slapped more paint on.

The grey knight are there for that.

Although Buddhist monks can do exorcisms, did some painting on the driver of the steam/jet bike but not enough to warrant a picture.

New addition for my chapter

Didn't want to use the normal powersword, and i don't like the use of a tent pole on the back of a marine, so i used that to make a naginata spear. (the spear comes from a sakura taisen garage kit model)

Added basic colors

Really dig this Plog! Keep up the awesome work. Your army was one of the ones I saw that inspired me to work up a squad of Samurai Astartes as a side project.

Something I did when making Naginata for my Samirai Astartes that I thought worked well was the blades for the curved swords in the Ogre Kingdoms box. I'm still trying to sort a good way to make Tetsubo to use as DaemonHammers though.

My dystopian legion have clubs that somehow look like tetsubo's, easiest way my IMHO is to use sprue material and use green stuff or drilling to make the studs.

Mostly away this weekend but yesterday i started to paint my urban warrior mini's i had stored for ages. They will be Serfs/Imperial guard to my Buddhist Space marine army.

My Buddhist captain is almost finished

It has been a while,

Finally received my scibor miniature and it will become my Primarch, Siddhartha in the armor gifted to him by the emperor.
The miniature comes with a wicked axe but my Buddhist primarch only uses a (force) pole. Added some exhausts to the back to
make it look that the power plant is merged into the suit.

Some base colors added and i received my heavy Valkir and APC!

Valkir are nice and chunky aren't they? Only small next to the terminators and Hero figures

They look small only because 40k have become more chunky over the years, i will make 5 into Honor guard for my 2nd Legion Primarch.

I use the close combat specialists as the platoon command squad, I use the 20 as 2 tactical squads and the heavy weapons as well, heavy weapons! LOL! But they are the troops the Kruegerian Republic calls on for really tough opposition to doing their part for the Khadrovian Union of United Republics to which they belong. Gonna get a 2nd Keilerkopf Hanomag and put the anti-tank cannons on it, will make ammo boxes for the things as I ordered the tripod mounted variety, will glue them in place of the quad HMGs.

Painted the inside of my Dreamforge KeilerKopf APC and the first base color on the outside.



Added some more colors on my Buddhist Primarch and my Valkir (sorry for the blurry pic)

I see that on the Hanomag you are going base coat sand yellow, going for the Green and brick camo? and did you tape the windows of the Hanomag?

So the Valkir have joined the ranks of the Marines.

just found your thread... and at first i thought what a crazy idea....well still thinking so ^^... but i am now hooked....

have you thought about a kharne the betrayer model as a start for the conversion?... or bare arm of catachans?... together with some DA bits... that could look quite good... also bald heads...well... there probably wont be a shortage of these...^^...also...the bretorian set of whafb has a fat brother tuck head... maybe that could be a nice character for your army too?

More work done on the Keilerkopf APC
Camouflage and wheels added, Camo still need som touch ups. the sideskirts were a bitch to get on as they don't have many attach points.

Still, a bold camo scheme!

cool camo scheme... just some patches need a retouch as they are a tad smeared looking... but it is very striking...
