I started on my imperial guard army about 3 years ago but after a while real life and other projects kindve took over a bit, i am hoping that this log might help to keep me motivated. I will be doing The 121st Alcari as my main force with any funky stuff going to a regiment or 3 from Hellainus Novus.
heres where we stand at the moment
4 Leman Russ tanks, 1 with forgeworld vanquisher turret
1 basilisk
6 chimeras, 1 with forgeworld autocannon turret
they are all glued together and awaiting stowage/battle damage
test poses for sentinels, all options magnetised
squished nob for 3rd sentinels base
these two are captains from the Alcari, the one with the cane is a heavy weapons captain
possible commissar bits + magnets allows for yarrick counts as
marbo counts as, unsure on scope?
priest
pask counts as, possibly for vanquisher
test model for Hellainus Novus rough riders
thanks to whoever did this first but i really cant remember. if you read this pm me as i would love help with the chasis
the females and rough rider mounts were from the phoenix project if anyone doesnt remember.
magnetised a chimedon/hellhound/chimerax, chimerax turret build is obviously still wip
am currently after opinions on this as a possible power maul, does it look ok or does it need a cabled power feed similar to the captains powerfists?
now please help get this army finished (or even just ready to paint!)
Automatically Appended Next Post: mods, meant to put this in the blog section please move when you get a chance cheers
With my wife and daughter off to cbeebies live today I managed to grab a bit of hobby time
Somebody on the bolter and chainsword suggested I try an anvil industries scope on snake so I ordered a set, if I don’t use them they will go to marksmen in squads. Great service, got them the next day, just tried one and am still unsure
What do people think? Marine scope, anvil scope or no scope?
Also ordered some plasticard tubing to try sorting out the heavy mortar barrel. Whilst playing about with it I found out that a tank wheel fits exactly as well so out of the options below which looks the best? I prefer the biggest one but think it might be a bit big compared to a regular heavy mortar?
Got some guardsmen and women ready for spraying, quick coat of grey before the rain came, some of them have been converted a little bit, am not a fan of 5 or 6 poses throughout a 100+ model list, its going to mean a lot of work but hopefully it will be worth it
This was all done with a few minutes to spare so I started on my tech priest and retinue, a bit of chopping later and 2 plasma cannon servitors half done.
painting has started on the guardsmen but my camera batteries have died, while paint is drying have been fiddling with my anvil industries fully posable bionic arms and legs for my straken counts as, am struggling with the sheer number of possible poses and so i ask for help from the internet, what is the coolest most badass pistol and sword pose you have ever seen? pics, links or general descriptions are all welcome
for straken i am going for the "walking forward determinedly" pose of the marine on the front of the Calth horus heresy book, swapping the shorter sword for the pistol. what i am after now is which head do you think works best with that? am thinking the head on the left at the moment and am hoping to build him tomorrow (finally!)
anybody think i should use one of the other 2 heads and why?
cheers
the rough rider was made as part of the phoenix forum community projects, had a load of them sitting in a box for years, now i am trying to concentrate on guard they will hopefully get some attention. one day......
i am def leaning towards the one on the left, i just wanted to know if anybody could change my mind before i put knife to resin and cant go back
doh!i didnt mean the calth book, the cover of Censure will show you what i am aiming for.
heres as far as i got on straken
i got distracted painting my first load of grunts. hte how pictures can wash out your models and pick out the errors, altough for3 years no painting they dont look to bad?
for fun this model represents my brother in law (horuswaspretty on the forums) not a fantasticlikeness but i will do
both of the ladies needed some boob removing simply due to the poses i wanted, not too bothered about the extra effort as they both look good imo?
i realise i should have drilled out the grenade launcher, will do it asap
although theres 10 regulars they wont all be from the same squad, i am aiming for themed squads, these 2 will be in the bayonet charge squad
these 2 stand and shoot squad
squad leader, are his chevrons too bright?
2 captains
also sorted the piping for th eplasma cannon servitors
bases will hopefully follow soon, still working them out.
with gothicomp models finished with and voting in progress (doing miserably, i entered purely on the understanding there would be maybe 1 other entry and i would have a chance of winning something by default ) i managed to get back to the guard, was going through the modelling process like lightning but found out i have run out of spray for the undercoating so pics are of bare plastic wips i am afraid
pics of straken counts as, didn’t really manage the level of awesome I had hoped for but he will do
i have magnetised his foot so he can swap bases and trophy kills dependent on who i am playing against, only the carnifex head modelled so far.
also lets him wall walk
also got marbo counts as undercoated, these pics show i finally went for a reflex scope, have added a demo charge and straps for the back pack
started on another batch of grunts, had the idea of a "walking wounded" type squad
chest wound
arm wound
sore arm
sorer arm
really sore arm
head/ear burn
got a bit annoyed as i couldnt find my tub conataining bits for the wounded serg and hwt so started on some healthier guys
power axe serg
this is the start of a replacement missile launcher. going for the M202 flash look, i know IRL it isnt an acceptable replacement but hey it looks cool obviously needs detailing but what do people think about the general shape/size of it?
Some really cool stuff, snake is from the jungle swarm. I’m liking that rocket launcher conversion, stick and Aquila of her tank a chimera kit down the side and its will be very imperial.
Dead ork is pretty well done too, shh don’t tell the boyz.
Great conversions, particularly like the wounded folks. Never seen someone do an arm splint like that before, it looks really good! You've got some really original poses going on and some great sculpting too. Kudos all round!
Love the new missile launcher - the size is perfect, I feel. Though his mate's a bit of a bastard for just pointing at the striking snake instead of actually doing something about it
Thanks for the replies, especially pleased people like the missile launcher, will try to crack on with it soon, once one is complete I will start churning them out.
Posted this in the badass comp but forgot to post it here, a wip of straken counts as
whilst painting straken the other day i realised i was going to need some new varnish so i set straken to one side and picked up snake plisken/marbo. heres a couple of pip pics of where he is at currently
glad i took the pics as it highlights any flaws, think i will try to take pip shots a bit more often.
Fattimus_maximus - Zambro- Scrazza - cheers, nice to see somepeople think its worth converting 5/6 point models
grabbed a few seconds to do some work on straken, this will be my first ever attempt at osl so am probably going to be asking questions at every stage, what i am after here is advice on the size/area of glow, want input here as i dont want to go through in a blur and think he is finished only to have some one point out any flaws like why is/isnt there light in a specific spot when obviously there should/shouldnt be
any way, heres as far as i got, should i extend the glow further towards the front of his left shin? should there be any glow on the right foot/shin?
more than one pic for angles
a few minutes free meant some more work on strakens plasma pistol and its lighting effects
how does it look so far? should i lighten the glow on the leg? should i take the purple on the gun all the way up to white? have i highlighted it in the right/wrong places?
any help is much appreciated
am waiting til his base is sorted before doing more to the glow as i will probably need to put the glow on his base as well, will see what happens
had problems with strakens base tonight and am very coss with myself, nearly had it finished and have had to rebase coat it and will have to start from scratch next time :( luckily i did get some work done on fixing marbo/snake plisken after his fall a while back. all of a sudden he was done bar his base
i finished Major Gari-Baldi my starken counts as just in time for the badass competition, got a bit trigger happy with the camera so have spoilered most of them
Spoiler:
when it came to basing i couldnt find my bag of sand so might have gone a bit overboard with the whole walking through a sea of nid blood thing but the theme of the competition was over the top badassness so i dont mind too much
a cool,a nice, another cool and an amazing? cheers guys
started work on my ammobunker single mini competition entry, was originally going to be a regular guy with a flamer but the head i wanted didnt arrive in time so i started on a lieutenant instead. as with all comps i enter i am not aiming to win but to get models painted, it worked last time so hopefully by mid december i will get this bloke finished.
had a bit of a problem when i started to make his fist, i wanted him to have a pointing fist, the only termie sized one i can remember is one of the space hulk models (sacrilege?)which i had ordered off ebay a while back. the problem being i didnt want to waste a whole space hulk terminator so i just cut off the actual fist part, no elbow joint or anything, no problem though as i had already gathered a load of black reach powerfists that i could take the joint off right? er nooooo, the black reach terminators have their shoulder pads already modelled on covering just too much of the elbow joint to make it usable, cue swearing and a trip out to the shed, hunting for mini parts in the dark with only the light of a crappy phone screen to aid you is not fun :( eventually found some real terminator sprues and was back in businesss
then it was time to glue him together, noticed while he was balanced for drying that he looked like he had had a few too many beers down at the early officers mess christmas party
he obviously had some kind of accident as he ended up needing this
started painting the lieutenant and the wounded squad last night, also put some paint on the tech priest and his servitors
overview of paint tray
tech priest so far
am going for cream robes with some red freehand details
comp entry
couldnt do more pics as camera was dying
hopefully not too much still to do and should get the competition entry done on time and the wounded squad completed before the end of the year
had a dust mite infestation in my garage/hobby room and what with all the cleaning of a million boxes of bitz, a number of poisonings etc have only recently got back to working on the guard, this update would have been a batch of finished guardsmen but i have been having some trouble with my nuln oil wash :(
i usually water it down a little bit and give each of my guardsmen 2 coats. this time however both coats have dried grey in some areas, basically looking like i havent painted them at all. if i wet the area again then it looks fine, let it dry and we are back to grey. have been over some of the areas again with straight nuln oil, no watering down but still end up with patches of grey, see pics
have asked for help on various forums, searched google, opinions have been=
pigment imbalance,
too watered down,
not watered down enough,
not shaking the bottle enough,
paint in my water/on brush,
has it frozen/defrosted,
high humidity,
applying too much wash
or my own favourite, gw washes are crap
have ordered a new bottle, that cuts out some of the possibilities,
going to try a thinned down abbadon black to cover the grey patches for now and will try nuln oil again once i have the new pot.
i liked the effect on the 1st batch of guardsmen so hopefully a new pot will sort it out
To be honest the one that sprung to mind was weather conditions, the reason I say this is because I sprayed in the garage once with Chaos black undercoat (which had been fine before and after ) left the models to dry in the garage.
Now it was a cold morning and the garage was like a bloody Ice box after returning about 30 to 45 mins later it had just dried but slightly wet in the recesses so I gave it about another 30 mins to dry, after that I went back but found that the black in recessed areas was grey and some small raised detailed sections to.
I tried a black wash to cover this but when dry it just came grey again so ended up undercoating once more, so maybe adding a tad of the original block colour then washing might work.
Loving the conversions in this army so far! I have that Pliskin model from Hasslefree minis too, Cobra I think they've called him. I never would have thought about using him as marbo but it's such a good idea I may just pinch it.
Keep it up!
look forward to seeing your pliskin, every army should have one
annoyed with the fact that a thinned down coat of black didnt cure my wash problem i jumped forwards a couple of months/years and cleaned up a kurgan winter guard sergeant ready for ammo bunkers omam
Hello Comrades
this model is from mad robot miniatures and i have to say the quality of this model (and the 29 other guys i bought) is simply fantastic, no bubbles in the resin at all, which already makes it better than forge world and games workshop, minimal mold lines adds to this as does the crispness of the cast, i have to say, if you have not tried mad robot stuff then you should, so should gw and then they can see what "the finest miniatures in the world" should come like, not full of bubbles or bent seven different ways with a twist on top (sorry still miffed that my fw avatars top knot is hollow, my masters of the chapter had bits missing etc etc)
ordered these a little bit before xmas (possibly xmas eve) and still got them before new years eve despite them coming overseas, for a small company they seem to be doing things right and i wish them all the best
with a day to calm down and try again on the wash front i pulled out the guardsmen again, just figured i would paint the milky grey wash with straight abbadon black, seems to have worked, gonna call this batch done now, if i was to give them another wash they would probably look like i had resprayed them black, they are already much darker than the original batch but i dont care anymore, at one point in a rage, after the last wash, they nearly got binned, such is the life of a guardsman i suppose.
anyway heres some dodgy pics of some dodgy paint jobs
now, onto the kurgan winter guard, do i go with classic brown shinels or maybe green? currently leaning towards brown due to having a lot of fun as a russian in call of duty?
lol, you know you are getting old when you have to google to find out what the "kids" are on about, dragon ball was not something i ever encountered.
cheers for the comments, currently waiting on some air brush paints so i can crack on with the russiany blokes, updates asap
i ordered a model air brown so i could paint my kurgans in record time, stupidly i figured brown would just be brown and only ordered 1 shade, had to make another order and that didnt arrive today so i just fiddled about with the kurgan serg until he was ready for paint when it comes
changed his pistol to a more recognisable las pistol
added an old warzone back pack
in order to get something done for ammobunkers one mini a month challenge i started on another guard regiment
this regiment will also be able to double up as a necromunda gang if i can find any players nearby
this is either a sergeant or a gang leader, due to necromundisation he has magnetic wrists, only made a few options so far, hopefully more will appear if i get a game and he gets something different
have since tidied up the gs on the boots, also started work on his ride incase i get a go at an ash wastes scenario or rough riders are still in the new dex, no pics yet but hopefully some next time
got a bit more done to his bike, this is another mad robot model, an azog treadbike, quite simply, i love it!
its like a mini tank, so much more weight to it than a scrambler type thing and yet its still not crazy big like the space marine scout versions you see a lot of.
this will be part of a squad of rough riders or used in ash waste games.
i was originally going to go with no stowage to show off the bikes awesomeness but i shaved off a few rivets by accident, figured it was easier to just cover it up than try to get new rivets to line up. just need to find some more bits for the rear end, suggestions? (not rude ones? )
got some time in on my newest guard regiment (from now on planet Bethesda)/necromunda gang, the serg/leader is complete, wasted too much time waiting for paints for the kurgans that didnt arrive and then deciding on a new scheme for bethesda peeps, next month should be more productive?
Odd- lol auto correct ldd- the arms, head and back pack are from Victoria, good fit for the archer body
Mr sighs- cheers, Cadians are on hold now, they are being punished for the nuln oil incident, once I have done some of the Russians I will be able to go back and get some more work done on the missile launchers
did a bit more work on my bethesda regiment/necromunda gang, some wip shots
bolter and chainsword although they look a bit big?
heavy with heavy stubber
ganger with 2 magnetised pistols
finally got my ammobunker omam done, kurgan sergeant complete!
also started on another bethesdan, a sniper type, so sniper rifle for 40k but probably a hunting rifle for necromunda
so, strap on or off? no references to actual strap ons please
hoejarris- most people are saying keep it on, am going to go with that as it will hide some untidy scraping that there may or not be on his chest
camkierhi- cheers, your stuffs not bad either
having a very busy month so have only managed to get a few minutes here and a few minutes there for hobby stuff, got this bloke built and sprayed though so he will be my ammo bunker one mini a month model
got a cruise fast approaching so hoping to get a lot done on him at some point tomorrow
had some trouble getting a photo that wasnt really dark so got annoyed and stuck it in straight sunlight
not too annoyed though as it means i have completed my 4th month of the ammobunkers one mini a month
camkierhi- cheers, one day.......
had a bit of a horrible week with my daughter bashing her face and the corresponding night in hospital, next morning my youngest sister smashes her brand new corsa into a ditch :( to destress i broke out the paints this morning and managed to get most of the colours blocked out on another 6 bethesdans
hopefully thats it for drama in may and i can get these finished before june
this inquisitory/acolytey guy has been a modelling itch i have had for a few years, was originally going to make him in 54mm but the base model is so close to what i am aiming for i broke down and started cutting him up in between working on some bfg stuff. at least he can be shoe horned into my guard army somewhere
obviously the blue tac isnt a permanent addition and his left arm is very long at the moment but what i am after here is some opinions on what he should be holding in his left hand, what i originally had in mind was a flare stick but am now considering a shutter lantern on a chain?
very loosley based on this guy
once i sort the lantern i will get back to him
while cleaning up a valkyrie the other day a delivery of bits finally turned up after i had nearly written them off, the final parts i needed to begin some necromunda enforcers/carapace vets/scions/inquisitor npcs, just grabbed the time to try out the concept and am after opinions before i dive in
i seem to have grabbed a command torso by mistake, probably going with regular cadian torsos, anyway, what do you think?
started blocking in some colours on one of my enforcers
was a bit torn between a metalic gun or the classic red, red won out for the trial run and i think i will stick with it, hoping to get this guy finished for ammobunkers omam
and arbites genericfilmstarpoliceofficername is done
that sorts omam 7, now to decide whats happening for month 8
props to VisOne and mousemuffins on wargamer au for providing a hazard stripe base template, painting/weathering that was fun
a quick shout out for some help please, last night i finally built a scavvy boss/radical henchman/Haemovore/cultist leader from bits i bought long ago but am stuck on the head, i have one that is usable but i chose it ages ago and the more i think about it the more i want something different as hes going to be a gang leader i am after ideas for the perfect scavvy boss head.
pics welcome or even just something like "vlad von carstein has a cool evil head" type thing, need inspiration
cheers for any help
Automatically Appended Next Post: it was suggested pics might help doh!
then this was the original head i had planned, it still works but dont think it has the right level of menace/intimidation/scare factor/awesome
have been on holiday for a bit so have only just managed to get some pics of my scavvy boss/inq henchman guy with the heads suggested in my latest cross forum sweep, thanks for the ideas everyone
i might like this more if i shave off the horns? i think they are too mutanty considering i have seen some people say that raw the scavvy boss cant have mutations, that is partly why he has the gadget claw and not a hideous crab/lobster jobby
the plastic clampack necromancer head was suggested but already have that earmarked for something else
these two are way too big but am including them for the sake of completeness, they were suggested so they are here
as i said, just too big
this guy was suggested due to its creepyness but as i see me scavvy boss as biting chunks out of his foes while fighting the sewn up mouth doesnt work for me
next up two ghoul heads
i like the snarling bite your face off looks but they dont seem "leadery" enough?
when this guy was suggested i thought i was on to a winner but when i put the parts together it just didnt seem right?
now we get on to some of my favourites, although the ungor one is still an option
this mantic zombie head has a bit of a nosferatu vibe which is cool
this guy is pretty bitey but the fall of the hair does limit him to charging down the base rather than keeping my options open for charging down or about to leap from on high
again nice and bitey
aaaand back to the original, i dont seem to be able to get a decent pic of this head, when i look at the actual model in front of me i think yep but when i look at a photo he loses some of his creepy evilness
anyway can i get some thoughts on which looks best, sorry to keep asking questions about the same model but really am in two (or 5) minds on this one
ps sorry to anybody whose suggestions arent here, i dont have access to every model head (yet )
A really love the arbites, he looks great. For the heads, i'm not really sold on any of them. Have you considered on of the death heads from the plaguebearers kit?
cheers for opinions
my attempt to get my knight painted for august omam was failing fast due to hesitations on the white so i ditched the knight and started on an enforcer
this might be the quickest start to finish model i have ever done started last night and just had to paint the goo and glue him to the base this morning, the nurgles rot is still a bit wet i think but shouldnt look much different once dried
votes are in and it seems the mantic zombie/nosferatu head got the most votes, will see what i can do
started work on some grenadier veterans for my guard, some of them will double as necromunda hired guns and treble as inquisitorial henchmen
this guy is the start of a bounty hunter for necromunda, he will get a bolter in his left hand, bounty hunters have so many weapons! the good thing is i managed to squeeze them all on, he has a shotgun and chainsword in scabbard on his back.
the bolter means he will probably be the grenadier sergeant and he slots in nicely as a henchman for an inquisitor with a military background. all the bolt weapons mean he is a bit problematic for inquisitor though :(
this guy will be scum for necromunda, he is magnetised to receive a hand flamer and a sword/big knife, others in the squad will be dual wielding pistols so this guy got something different, is it too big for a knife?
he has a shotgun on his back to qualify for the grenadier squad and i dont think he will be too tooled up for inquisitor, i can always swap out the hand flamer if need be
had some trouble with pics, fully armed pics with heads should follow later
edit- figured i would spray them ready for painting due to the sun finally pointing back to earth, taking pictures of black primered models doesnt seem to work but heres what i got
got these two done, pictures came out sort of ok this time, also tried nuln oil out again after the rage inducing problems last time i used it on guardsmen it seems to have come out ok?
now i need to start thinking about building something ready for next month, more vets, some command squad plasma dudes for straken or some heavy weapons?
"welcome to radu lykans log"
"eh?"
"you know the one"
"nah"
"yeah, it harbours the worst photography skillz in the known universe"
"oh you mean that radu lykan"
some carapace vets with meltaguns, getting stuck on these guys as i need some more forgeworld shotguns to finish them off, will see what xmas brings
got omam done (12 out of 12!) by basing up a load of guardsmen, as the guardsmen were already done i thought i would get some terrain done a the same time so i didnt feel like i was cheating
bases
bases plus guard
terrain
the terrain was very easy and cheap to do, get an old cd, chuck a load of filler at it, wedge in some pieces of slate, let it dry, seal it with pva, add sand, seal it with pva then paint, now these test pieces are done am hoping to get a few more done ready for a desert table at some point
cheers ldd, when i get a chance more will be made, hopefully bigger versions as well although i am not sure how much tallarn sand my gw has in stock
was just going to get an arbites done for omam this month after going 12 for 12 last year. that was the plan anyway, yaktribes current competition is for examples of law and order which the arbites would have fitted in to.
would have been so simple.......
in the list of eligible items arbites just happened to have the word vehicle next to it and so i dug out my chapter house kit for a wheeled chimera thinking it would be a little homage to mike mcveys old riot truck.
the pics below show that the chapter house kit doesnt fit the new chimera hull if it ever fit the old one who knows but as you can see with the kits side hull pieces lined up with the back of the chimera you get a serious over lap of over 10mm in some places
after some swearing i just glued the sides on and when that was dry i shaved and filed the side pieces down to the correct size then had to redo a lot of rivets due to the big shaved areas and fill in gaps with green stuff
currently waiting on some hatch fillers from zinge industries then spraying can commence. rules wise am magnetising this so if i ever get the bitz then it can represent both a chimera and a taurox depending on my mood
just in case it takes too long to finish the tank i got an arbites sprayed
any ideas on policifying the chimera?
gong to wimp out on policifying the wheeled chimera, i want to use it in my guard army as well so dont want to go too far on it. too much procrastinating on this led to me having to drop it for januarys omam and so i have started (nearly finished actually) on the enforcer i had sprayed in case the chimera didnt happen.
was in a rush so the wash is still wet, one more wash to go then basing
started on an arch magos type bloke, this guy is going to be an npc for inq28, a counts as pitfighter gang leader, an hq from the 30k mechanicum list and probably just a tech priest for 40k.
what i am after on this guy is advice on the servo arms, 3 sections or 4? have included a pic of where his axe will roughly be, does 3 sections look too short to come around the axe? does 4 look too gangly?
while i was fiddling around with the zinge servo arms i noticed some funky little weapons that came with it and as has been suggested i had a quick go at a concept for a webber for my arbites (going to magnetise both specialists so dont worry anybody who suggested something else) my i phone wouldnt focus on the details of the spouts but if you own the zinge arms then you know what they look like, if you dont own them then why not? they are great, anyway..
also a size comparison with the scout shotgun
any suggestions on something better or bits to add/trim?
on ammobunkers inq28 section it was suggested that we all try to make a model based on a film character but 40ked up a bit by the end of march, well, i had the bits rough test fit so far, would have got more done but sliced my index finger with a silly slip so no more modelling today :(
hoping to incorporate this almost sort of in a dark room at twenty paces bane look alike into by bethesdans/delaque gang
real life has been a bit hectic so not a lot done on bane, managed to get the strap added to his head but my phone wont focus on his head at the moment so no pic yet. also added the sheep skin effect to his coat
as bane wasnt progressing very fast i built and sprayed a new bethesdan with a grenade launcher for omam. his pointing hand is magnetised for pistols etc dependent on how he gets on in necromunda campaigns
have lost my list of paints that i used on the first batch so there might be some difference between them and any future batches, its a toss up between balor brown and zamesi desert for final highlights on the jackets, shouldnt look too different if i choose the wrong one though?
in addition to being marchs omam he is going into the film character creation thread in the inq28 section and also the hq choice in the bolter and chainsword blood and glory challenge, got a lot of internet pride riding on finishing him by the end of march
while painting bane i will also be doing at least this bethesdan for the b&c one and all challenge due to them same being the same scheme
had a job interview this morning and so i took some time out in the garage to de-stress. instead of painting bane like a good boy, i started a kitbashing frenzy after that i got the call to say i got the job, which was nice
most of these are based on previous ideas i had for 54mm inquisitors
as you can see by the amount of blue tac these are very early wip, after some input, if any are crap i would like to know now before i invest any real time on them
first thing i did was chop up some forgeworld stuff :O
This guy needs some input on the stake, should i trim the top curved spikes off? am also considering magnetising the weapons to be swappable with two desert eagle style stub pistols
with the head from lok i quickly boshed this guy out,
obviously the bottom of the coat needs attaching to the top with green stuff. what i am after here is should i go with the empty hand(will get a psychic warp fireball added) or twin swords?
this guy will be getting a magnetised backpack fuel tank with pipes connecting to the skull mace which will have flames sculpted on, magnetisation is so he can double as a magister for mordheim with the flames being magic rather than techno based
am not sure the legs work? i see him running forward chanting from the book but does that come accross or does he just look like he is falling over?
lady flamberge here is going to be a house agent for an escher gang at some point but she will also be part of somebodys retinue as a noble woman who's family was disgraced and shipped off to be executed in the pitfights, against all odds she survived and made a name for herself as a gladiator.
does this pose work or does she need more movement?
what's cooler than a dbsosg? two dbsosg's
this guy's name is Hannikel, he was supposed to be based on the 54mm slick devlan model but i couldnt find the right hooded head head. a joint order with masterbuilder sorted that and with a bit of scraping here he is.
need to finish off the greenstuffing but the general pose is done, does it look ok?
how about the knife one?
when i said i didnt do any work on bane it was sort of true,no work was done on movie bane. Comic bane however.....
size comparison with movie bane
i know hes a bit crazy big but am thinking hes the bastard son of the lord of house goliath for necromunda where he has undergone some extreme gene enhancement, inq28 he will be a warrior gifted by khorne with daemonic strength, he might be strakken in a traitor guard list if i ever get that far
and finally a quick test for an escher ganger/slaaneshi cultist,
too dark eldary?
bane is done!
yep, thats a bat wing hes standing on (or a tyranid gargoyle wing dependent on which universe you happen to inhabit)
I think i could have gotten a lot closer to the concept pic both modelling and paint scheme wise if i wasnt planning on having him "fit" into my bethesdan guard army but its close enough that my wife said "where did you get the bane model from?" so am happy
added some hazard striping to the swords power wire, almost compulsory when he is involved in a game of necromunda
pic of base (magnetised)
ambience327 suggested a dead bat on his base as a joke but i thought what the hell
as part of the B&C's blood and glory challenge i also got this regular trooper done
comparison with bane to show hes a pretty big fella
got 3 more bethesdans done for april omam, the pics were even darker than normal so i had to fiddle with the contrast, sorry for the bright white background
although he's a guardsman and is dead if he gets assaulted by anything other than tau i modelled this guy with a sledge hammer because rule of cool
with a heavy stubber/payback and a grenade launcher as the only effective weapons for my bethesdans so far, i have
built some heavies.
this missile launcher looked great until i messed up when drilling the holes :(
something a bit more reliable at taking out armour
will sort the missile launcher when i get a chance
decided to enter something into the mad max challenge in the ammo bunkers inq28 section which will also get entered into the same challenge on yaktribe and be my omam for july, these are some very early wip pics
although hes not driving a gas guzzling mash up of rusty hotrod and beach buggy i think this guy sort of fits, c'mon, hes got a molotov spear and everything!
alongside this guy i will be aiming to get the basics for a rough rider squad/ash wastes gang done as well
i bought this dominatrix ages ago to use as a cavalry mount at some point, with a quick head swap i now imagine it as a super evolved flea like creature, moving about with big hops, need to look at the ashwaste rules to meld the pounce skill with something akin to hammer of wrath to represent it leaping from victim to victim
another unorthodox mount, the nipples had to go but once that was done its a sort of believable creature?
was struggling with this one, nothing looked right close combat weapon wise due to the distance from ground to rider, also wanted something pretty shooty on the back, a re-read of the rules shoved the glaive into my face and once the shaft is lengthened to rest on his stirrup i think it will look great. the shooty thing was solved by the difference between twinlinked rules in the various rules, in the ash wastes twin linked is two weapons rules wise, no re-roll, just a straight 2 shots
any ideas for general improvements before i start using glue etc?
because i am silly (still not finished the mad max challenge) i have entered the rise of the machines comp on yaktribe, a servitor that is going to count as a pit fighter
started with this
after cutting some bits off i ended up with this
also his weapons are magnetised along with a few spares
end date for the yaktribe comp is 18th july, will see what happens
got my ash waste nomad guy done
as ever the pictures show more than a few mistakes but am blaming that on painting in the (almost) dark last night
the one that annoys me most is the hole in the right boot from where i tried to straighten a tallarn foot and forgot to greenstuff the hole :(
will see if i get around to fixing him next time i work on the nomads
cheers Camkierhi, nice to know people look in here
finally got a bits delivery including some blood reavers that i intend to use as necromunda goliaths and khorne cultists in 40k. although a lot of people have said they are too big compared to other necromunda models i like them enough to extend my goliath leaders fluff to incorporate his gangers also receiving gene enhancements, growth hormones and super steroids etc. anyway heres what i did with 30 seconds before moving on to some inquisitors
and on to the inquisitors (still early blu tacwip's i'm afraid)
this first guy is based on one of my first inquisitor ideas, Inquisitor Mordax. his appearance came later when i played the matrix online mmorpg
Mordax was mentored by a fire and brimstone inquisitor lord who traveled around with a regiment of storm troopers belligerently kicking the crap out of any wrong doers. too many times mordax saw the instigators of evil flee at such overt military force coming their way leaving duped fools to fight and die in their place. so now he is an inquisitor in his own right most of the time he shies away from all the obvious trappings of his powerful position, frequently operating undercover with nothing more fancy than an autopistol or shock maul to mark him out from the crowd of bounty hunters and hired thugs
the head i thought would work here didnt and so he's headless for now :(
Mordax doesnt always operate from the shadows and understands that when leading any force of men an inspirational leader can bolster morale and so when entering any front line battlefield he goes clad in the full regalia of a powerful inquisitor lord, power armour, force hammer and bolt pistol etc
yep, he wears the helm of Saint SeJANUS in all its two faced omniview (360 degree )auto senses glory
am after ideas for something funky in the way of boltpistols here as the one he has is a bit boring
also any ideas for de-marining him a bit more?
this next guy is known as the lion of terra, the mighty hero who has spawned a number of acolytes turned inquisitors including mordax and who may or may not be dead in the current timeline, been wanting to make this guy since i saw the tyrant of badabs claw, not sure on the shotgun but wanted something that looked brutal enough for the braced firing pose, any other ideas?
any help regarding the issues above is greatly appreciated
thanks for looking
desubot, they are for my reaver which i am steadily cleaning up
unable to find any terminator arms to finish the lion of terra i instead went for mordax in power armour. voting on the shoulder pads went the way of the scion pads so with some minor converting they got done and he got painted. the lighting in the pics has washed out the red, its much darker in real life and its not quite so single tone
anyway, pics
sorry for excessive pics but looking for any glaring mistakes and wanted to show the filigree bits
i started on a command squad for my straken counts as. accompanying them will be a priest, did a quick kitbash but after ideas on improvements. i already plan to armour the feet but other than that am running low on ideas?
so, any ideas are appreciated
got some work done on a command squad for my straken counts as, have vowed these for the heroes of the guard challenge on the b&c
hopefully next time they will get finished, deadline is 9th October
got my straken counts as a new base and his command squad finished for the heroes of the guard challenge on the B&C
as they were for the challenge i boshed out some dodgy fluff as well
Spoiler:
Alcari
The regiments of Alcazar are sometimes known by the ironic nickname of “The Immobile Infantry.” Although the regiments from this hive world are drop troops and well equipped with APCs they are well known throughout the surrounding sectors for their ability to withstand almost any foe when deployed with their Bulwark class drop forts. This stoic defensive nature is bred into the Alcari by the fierce warfare that is waged between the various ruling guild houses of Alcazar over the planets resources and various mercantile contracts with the Imperium.
The Imperium often steps in to quell any serious threat to the planets production this hostility brings, be it with the barely veiled threats of imperial negotiators or the touch of an assassin’s blade.
The continuous threat of warfare has led to the surface of Alcazar being covered in citadels and fortress complexes, built by the various guilds to secure their territory and provide staging posts for their own opportunistic raids. With each house needing a standing body of troops, every worker is trained to use a las gun be it in defence or attack and so recruits raised from Alcazar are not unversed in the practice of killing, a highly valued skill in the Imperial Guard.
The innate rivalry and competition between regiments raised from different regions of Alcazar provides extra motivation to drive on or hold fast for the victory honours, leading to some truly heroic actions but also some devastating defeats as regiments over stretch themselves in the race for glory.
The 121st Alcari recently deployed on the xenos infested planet of Aridor on the orders of Inquisitor Mordax where they have been able to instantly set up numerous fortified installations around which the battered Bethesdan 51st and Aridor planetary defence forces have rallied. These beach heads have served as staging posts for additional reinforcement from other regiments enabling the imperial forces to shift from defence to attack.
Major Garibaldi
When as a young plasma specialist Garibaldi and his unit saved Arch Magos Toddius Kraine, and in doing so lost an arm to an ork choppa, few could guess the legend he would become. Promoted to lead his company and rewarded by the mechanicus with advanced bionics and an oath to provide bionics for any injured man in his company, Garibaldi has over the years become more metal than flesh, said by his men to be as strong as a space marine and twice as tough. Garibaldi and his special weapons company have a high proportion of bionics even now centuries later, long after the magos’ death the oath is honoured and these multiple bionics coupled with the concentration of special weaponry within Garibaldi’s company ensure that they are worth a lot more than the sum of their parts in a fight. This reputation has been tested multiple times, thrown into a number of meat grinders Garibaldi and his men have defied the odds and changed the course of thousands of battles with Garibaldi himself having won more medals than any previous recruit from the planet of Alcazar or the surrounding Eschataris sector.
To look at Garibaldi it is hard to see any organic parts at all and perhaps it is this cyborgisation that gives Garibaldi his faith in his own invincibility, whatever it is Garibaldi has never once retreated from a fight and makes a point of hunting down enemy commanders, separating their limbs from their bodies being a particular speciality of his.
The men that accompany Garibaldi are themselves heavily augmented, any time spent fighting alongside Garibaldi means fighting at the forefront of battle where injuries are common place. Doctor Zoidberg the medic attached to Garibaldi’s command squad is more mechanic than doctor, carrying more tools for fixing bionics than fixing flesh.
Plasma specialists Kurk, Piquard and Pyke have served in Garibaldis command squad for over 5 years together as their extensive limb replacement shows, a testament to the ferocity of the times.
N.0.r.K. was gifted to Garibaldi by the mechanicus upon his promotion to major to act as a bodyguard. Amused by the idea that he might need a bodyguard, Garibaldi treats N.0.rK as an attack dog on the battle field and a pet whilst off it, albeit a very dangerous one.
wasnt going to do the ammobunker one mini a month challenge this year due to some bigger projects hopefully coming up, with a test of my Alcari tank scheme nearly done i figured i will give it a shot and keep going til the inevitable failure
in the mean time the B&C have started a guard campaign that the new tank fitted into so i have also jumped on to that wagon, lets hope the wheels dont fall off too soon
anyway, here is as far as i have got on the hell hound/chimedon conversion i did a while back, just used washes so far for the weathering but have some forgeworld weathering powders on the way, hopefully they will arrive in time for me to get it finished
any tips on desert weathering for dark/black tanks is welcome along with any tricks for the powders cheers
One of the tactics used by Alcari hellhound crews is to rough up their tanks to appear as wrecks, sitting out in the open until something comes close to investigate. The investigators are soon roasted alive.
The crew of the hellhound below used this tactic extensively on its last deployment in a desert, often burying over 50% of the vehicle in sand to appear immobilized.
Spoiler:
or, it was my first time using weathering powders and i might have overdone it a bit
managed to get the taurox done before the B&C's Assault on Lutum deadline so the vow is complete. in order to get finished in time i had to skip the magnetised chimera bits though which means they wont get done for a while now. anyway pics
didnt hit this with much weathering as it will be doing double duty in the hives of necromunda where the sand doesnt make much sense. am thinking it will transport a unit of psykers in 40k and so a fluff blurb about the eerie-ness of the tank and the fact that even the sand doesnt want to be near it will happen at some point
Thanks, was not fun to make but happy with how it looks for now
for the final stage of the b&c's assault on lutum i decided to go big or go home, 3 russ tanks were vowed, aiming for 4 anyway, started highlighting.
also, i lost the parts i had intended to use as a counts as pask so a new version got started
[url=http://s364.photobucket.com/user/RADU_LYKAN/media/imperial%20guard/paska_zpsxvvekny3.jpg.html]
and a rogue trader/officer of the fleet for inq28/40k. He will be magnetised to swap between fantasy and 40k settings, after opinions on a pistol swap on this guy
am thinking a bicorne hat to play up the naval angle, considering his body cant have much in the way of 40k adding, due to multi role, any thoughts on other additions?
cheers hoping to somehow make the taurox hull work at some point but until then my bodged conversion will have to do
been trying to concentrate on my tanks, am getting there but keep wanting to just grab random stuff and stick it together for realms of chaos, last night horuswaspretty(brotherinlaw) was fiddling about with beastmen for his warband so the temptation was great but i persevered
once horus went home though i cracked and started work on modelling my tzeentchian champion so still have work to do on these, the B&C's deadline still seems a while away though so might still get done in time
The russ' were submitted in time but awaiting a better pic due to washedoutness. Have entered the b&c ETL with a hellhammer and some ogryns, 800 points for my first vow.
The forge has been awakened, sacred construction rituals are in progress
Started building the hellhammer last night only to find I have lost my 3mm drill bit with which I was going to magnetise the sponsons so am now waiting for the postie
still waiting for drill bits :( on the other hand it has led to paint happening on my ogryns, just blocking colours in at the moment but it's good to get the brushes out
Love your ogryns!
Your blog is very inspirational, especially for conversions. I think that's my favourite thing to see among IG players; originality and clever builds.
Solid paintjobs too !
I saw you have also different regiments that look cool, so if you want to tell more fluff about them, that would be great !
Lol fell off the guard band wagon for a bit, funny you mention orks
Got a sentinel squadron done for the b&c's latest guard campaign
Close up of squashed ork
I finished a van Saar gang which “accidentally” has the perfect load out to field them as a squad of veterans, still looking at list options, they may get a counts as centaur if I go the Krieg grenadier route. Any way, pics
Reinforcements (I miscalculated when I ordered these guys so not enough for a second squad. More on the way so one day should be able to field 30)
