I'm coming back to the hobby slowly. I'm still in a shambles in general, but I've been thinking about the old Ordo Gorkamorka lately, and the shoots boyz squad I want to add (to the long list of unfinished models ;P).
I was thinking about the fluff behind them and it settled this way: Gutsnik is from the Mekanikus and the grots are his Skitarii, so the irks must be Beakies! Well ok, but what chapter?
So, looking through the chapters, I was leaning toward the Iron Hand, because of their close ties to the mechanicus, but I was having trouble, fluff wise, with my kommandos being the noobs in the chapter, so to speak. ( SM Scouts and all) Then it struck me, Space Wolf's Scouts are the vets... some of them anyhow.
So I think I'm gonna found my own chapter of SM Orks to act as the militant arm of the Ordo Gorkamorka. This chaptork will be known as Da Gnashers... after the face-eatin' squig. It's either that or Da Growlers, after the squighound. Their gonna be a squib themed SM Chapter themed ork shoots boyz mob... (mouthful) and anyway, it's a new idea.
Besides that bit that I'll continue to think about but try desperately to not begin modeling. I would like help deciding what to finish first. Any of the models or terrain I have started in this blog are up. Please let me know.
Thanks for reading

Thanks fellas.
I'm going to try to finish one unit at a time, as a sort of new years resolution... let's call it a new year in my hobbling timeline. As for the ork chapter thing... I'm still trying to rap my mind around it, too, Gits. So we'll see.
The other thing that I've thought about to make it even more complicated is to have the "chapter" be Death Watch themed instead (as Gutsnik is an exploring Magos of the Cult of Gorkamorka... or summing like dat) and draw from such notable chaptaz as Da Brazen Klaws, and so on. I do need to look at those threads again, for inspirations sake... and also because they iz cooool.
I still need to get my work station rebuild, but I'll have more room this time round and I have already started working, more productively, on the Mobile Kroot squad that will found as Stormboyz.
So I'm gonna keep working on the mopeds for da kroots, but I'm also going to focus on one other unit at a time to finish modeling them. I probably won't be painting for some time yet, but I did dig up old Lokun and the Grot Platform, so I may finish those two... if any of my paints are still useable.
and already I have left my resolution behind...
DAMIT!
;P One unit at a time. I should start with Gutsnik, I suppose.

@ Neil101: Yeah I was psyched when I stumbled across them.
Quick question: has anyone seen an Ork version of the Emporor's Shadow Space Marine Chapter? Think I could go for Gorkamorka's Shadow. Heavy on the dredz and lots of cyborg parts. Still could do the Space Squigs (Space Wolves theme), to keep the kommando's promoted (as it were).
I set up Bigtoof earlier today, for the first time in... well, when was the last time I posted pics of it? Anyhow, I measured it this time and, at it's widest points, the town is 39" x 21". I now have table space to set the whole town up. I took some pics today too, but I haven't uploaded them yet. I'm interested to see if I misplaced any of the buildings, as I did it from memory. I like that there is some room for rearranging the town, even tho I've glued many of the buildings into clusters.
I'll amend this post with pics a bit later on. Also, thanks for the reinforcement, D.

Here you go:
starting off right, wif Bigtoof Proppa, from da squidgions eye.
and da part I plans to were on next, da majer 'ousez of Bigtoof.
I also took a pic of my HQ selection... not strictly speaking
the Runtherd and Deffskullz boss, I don't think, would ever really count as HQs except in Apoc games, and then the Runtherd would be that 'uge IG general.
and a quick refresher of some more of the models I've had almost ready to paint for about a year now:
So, my plan now is to finish modeling Gutsnik and base coat him, AND adding the wooden features to the buildings at the end of Bigtoof (shown above). I left them out so, when I find the balsa wood, I can start making the deck and stairs that go with those buildings. I still have yet to finish setting up my work station as well... so I suppose that will have to be first.
Hope you enjoyed the flash back and thanks for reading.

Post by: The Good Green
@ Arakasi: Is that all? I've been moving for the last year and a half, and I haven't gone anywhere...
@ Monkeytroll: good to hear it's just a short break.
So, here's a quick color test for Da Squigs Shadow. It's the marine themed wing of the Ordo Gorkamorka. Their namesake (Da Squig) is none other than Gork's (or was it Mork) most vicious attack squig. Taking the color scheme from The Emperors Shadow, which I have not been able to find much as to their fluff. But I like the colors so
No base coat or nothing, just quick and dirty.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Upon further viewing, I find that color scheme a bit too colorful. So, some changes are in order. First on the list is the suspenders/harness straps will match the shirt (for the most part). The leg strap and arm band I'll try to use for squad markings... I liked the Ork Angels approach with the troops symbol tattoo on the arms, so I'll do that too. All da boyz and weedy nobz will have shoulder tats matching their unit type, except I will be comparing them to the unit tip of the Space Marines... so, Tankbustas = Devastators. Now, I know many of you will bring up the clear fact that the loots are more like devastators, but there aren't any loots in the Ordo Gorkamorka. Those steeling' hits are over at the Trukk Shop rip pin' off over folks ridez. The boyz squads will be the tactical squads and the komandos will get the elite symbol, as I find their character more akin to the space wolf scouts. The Beaky Boyz that I'm working up are, I suppose, more like the chapter of space marines the Adeptus Mechanicus tried to create. They were ultimately found out and punished somehow... I read it in a bit of fluff somewhere. At least my beaky boyz are like that when compared to such great Chaptorks as Da Brazen Klawz and Da Dark Angelz. My main reasoning there is do to the ruling influence of my big meks. I was thinking about going the Death Watch route, but I want more to do with their gear than all black and one fancy shoulder pad... also I couldn't see the ordo collecting one shoulder pad from so many chaptaz. I guess they could be boyz from all over the universe that had a shoulder pad and fallen in love with the idea of being as tough as space marines... having been the last boy in the mob by the time they squashed only one marine (or whatever). So that ork boy rips of a shoulder pad and books it outa there... and finds his way to Da Ordo Gorkamorka. ... would explain why my waaaagh is going so slowly So I'm going the other way, the Mechanicus founded chapter (that was ultimately squashed by the emperor I think) only with orks And so Da Ordo Gorkamorka founds its very own chapta... I haven't settled on a name for the whole chapter yet :\ I'm leaning back towards something with Growlaz or Gnashaz in it. Bloody Gnashaz or Gork( or Mork)'s Growlaz, something like that. If you have any suggestions, please share them. Thanks for reading. ALSO! I'm very happy about the new allies rule. I just heard about it and I'm so happy I can actually bring the Bigtoof Grots as Allied IG in regular games now.

Sounds like you've got some good ideas there GG. The color pattern is a bit much. One bright color on an ork is OK, 3 is pushing it. Maybe if you darkened them a bit... it wouldn't be so jarring.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Here's the second try at the colors.
Frankly, I'm not as happy with these two. I certainly will be darkening them up a bit, plenty of dirt and grime too.
I've got some relearning to do with my painting as well. The red straps are going to get darker, more like squib leather. The skin will get a different touch as well.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Something about the aqua... just looks... wrong with an ork. Especially the red and aqua together.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
I know what you mean. There's just something off about it. I think it's just my crap paint job tho. I'm going to toy around with the colors some more and see if I can't find a pair of turquoise and green that work better. Here's something I'll be using to help: So... I think, maybe, more yellow in the skin? or making the red rustier. more reference: I'll be lightening up the black with wear-n-tear and highlights, so hopefully that will help calm the brightness, too... ok with the last few pics added to that spoiler, I'm thinking the skin is getting much darker, and a bit yellower, and the red is getting drastically muddier or rustier... a darker, drabber color at any rate, more like squib leather... like I was saying
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Turquoise! (not the color, the stone) I approve! Check out mechanicum jon's dark eldar. He's got that theme going and it's SPECTACULAR... He even has a tut somewhere near the beginning.
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
I suspect a wash of green on the skin, and then devlin (or whatever it is now) everywhere would both tone it down and add depth to everything. Some shipping on the turquoise plates would help too.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
I knew I saw a turquoise tut somewhere around here! Thanks Gits. And thanks to you Whale. I'm gonna try a few different base colors for the skin, mostly lighter/yellower tones then dark washes all the way. Isn't that funny, GW changing all the names like that... not funny "haha"... `,;~P
ps, nice quotes, both of you!
22192
Post by: whalemusic360
There's a tut in WD for the turquoise crons a few issues back, may be helpful. Iirc, they drybrushed bleached bone and washed with something.
48594
Post by: dsteingass
Shade your green skin first, (get it the color you want, but biel-tan green shade is badass)) then you can customize the other colors that look good around it.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Thanks for the tips, I definitely need the help. I haven't been able to find either tut, but I'm still combing through Mechanicum Jon's thread. GW has cleared their articles in large extant. :(
Getting back on track, I've taken a few pics of Gutsnik and his backpack to help remind myself of what is still needed. It's mostly wires at this point (and a load of paint ), but I have yet to start on any kind of shoulder guards. I'm also going to take up a suggestion I remember from much earlier in Gutsniks life, tho I can't remember who posted it. I'm gonna see how it looks to put in some extra-mekanikal supports for Da Dred Klaw. There's also the grots tools to build...
here's some pics
The grots and their missing tools
Here you can't see the missing cord from da fred claw to the battery pack that isn't there.
The battery pack is gonna go between his back and the tank... I've got a bit in mind, but I still need to find it.
You can see some of the cables here, in the center there. A nice bit from the lootaz set. Those will get connected to the device in his hand... the KFF kontrolz. I've got to figure out something to do with that box thing in the cables up in the top right corner. Shoulder guard on this side too, but no hydraulic bits.
and finally, I've been wanting to put more of an edge on the platform... what I'm worried about there is that it will come down to using a very thin strip of card... very thin - so, we'll see.
and again, thanks for reading.

Remember, Orks aren't brilliant at discipline, or thinking nothing can be "improved". If you wanted to do Deffwotch, I'd reverse the black/pad color scheme if too much black is an issue (ie clan/chapter colors mostly with a single black pad to bring them together. Or some other combination (maybe black weapons too). Looking forward to seeing this progress while Da Dark Angelz are in storage/their own dark journey... The other advice above looks good - I certainly can't improve upon it at this time
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Well I know orks isn't da best at drills and marchin' and the like, but deez boyz is Blood Axe boyz. Dey know those beaky boyz got some good armour, and day see how da beakies mow down lesser waaaghs. Deez boyz has also seen them squishy blue gits and all da guns dey has.
On that note, Da Bloodspittaaaz haz a couple a new 'are boyz dat has one SM shoulder pad and one orky should pad. While I was fiddling with that on my own work bench, it looked off some how, but seeing dees two 'are boyz, I like it.
With that in mind, and with your advise Arakasi, I think I'm going to paint the ork pad metaly black and the SM pad will get the turquoise treatment, with black trim. I'm going to pick up some World Eater pads too, and paint them up like squigs. Not sure yet, how I'm going to make my own 'are boyz look 'arder then the rest of da chapta. Maybe they'll just get different colors (like white helmets) and some extra trophies.

Post by: The Good Green
Ok, here's my plan for painting... this is more so I can remember, but I'm also interested in your input for different layer options to get different effects.
Pants and Shirt:
-Black base coat
-Dry brushing dark grey highlights
Skin:
-Base coat with a Medium to Light Green
-Medium to Dark Green wash
-Medium to Light Green highlights
-Devlan Mud wash
Helmet and torso armor: (for Da Boyz)
-Black base coat
-Light dry brushing of Dark Grey
-Extreme highlight with Dark Grey
-Extreme highlight with Medium Grey
(white helmet or fur ring for "soar boyz")
Suspenders and Straps:
-Base with a Warlock Purple of some sort
-Devlan Mud wash
-First highlight with Scab Red
-Second highlight with Blood Red
-Extreem highlight with 1:1 Vomit Brown/Blazing Orange
-Devlan Mud wash
Shoulder pads:
-Base with Dark Angle Green
-First highlight with Hawk Turquoise
-Second Highlight 2:1 Hawk Turquoise/Ice Blue
-Edges get rough black base coat
-Edges get metal/grey
-Devlan Mud wash
Gunz and Mek armour:
I'll be trying to emulate Arakasi's red for these parts
So, that's my plan so far. I left the colors more "undecided" for the skin because I'll be trying to vary it, a bit, from boy to boy. The Nobz will get darker skin tones as well, and irks deemed to be veterans (nobz and some boyz) will get white helmets while "sergeant" nobz will get red helmets. I was thinking maybe the horned helmets could be vet status, but I think the horns might represent some other part of the heraldry better... any ideas there?
So, I'm off to see how close I can get to that. Thanks for reading
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Alrighty, some progress picks!
I've got the two test orks painted up to the first layer of highlights (almost). The shoulder pads don't have any highlights and the weathering is still just black base-coat. The skin is only washes at this point, too.
I like the slugga boy's skin better, so I think I'll stick with light greens and yellows for the skin base coat. I'm not super happy with the dry brushing on the clothe, but a wash may fix that. One last thought on the color scheme, maybe the torso armour should be red as well, and just the shoulder pads are turquoise. What do you think? I still need to work on my technique for the pads anyhow, thin the turq. out a bit more, a few more layers of it... I'll get there.
I've gotten Gutsnik and his backpack almost completed as far as assembly goes. All that's left to make are his shoulder guards, and maybe a wire or two from the Dred Klaw to his armpit.
So, a few more steps with the painting and I'll post them again. As for Gutsnik, I'm very pleased to say that there's really only some gap-filling (and the grot's tools) to do before he's ready for a base coat himself. However, he isn't glued together (fully) yet. The back pack still comes apart (the mekaniks and the platform) and the whole thing comes off his back. The wires attaching to his trigger still need a little touching up to fit them right, but that is easily fixed with glue as well.
Anyhow, thanks for reading.

Post by: The Good Green
Thanks you two. I mean to do some GS/gap filling later today. Haven't been in much of a mood for painting since I got the color scheme going in a direction that I like. I'll keep working on the color scheme (sort of in the mean time as it were) while I finish up the Nobz. I took a survey of theme a day or two ago, and they're almost done, too. I need to finish a couple staffs (the waaagh banana and a big choppa) but otherwise, I think they are about done.
I still need to get the mold line off of the left side of Gutsniks back pack... and give him some shoulder pad action. (after all, 40K=giant should pads)
Thanks for reading, and hopefully I'll have some pics for you by the end of the day. Automatically Appended Next Post: So, I finished the staffs and added a bit to the AdMek Nob's backpack. The only bit I have to add to the nob squad now is a rokkit for one of the servitor nobz. That said, they are ready for GS. Which means I have a Big Mek and a bunch of Nobz ready for GS... so I shouldn't have a problem mixing too much
At any rate... here's the pics

Post by: The Good Green
Ok, so... on further inspection I did have more to do on the nobs... also, I've been uninspired to do any GS work. :\ But I did start gluing the nobs together. I had forgotten that most of them still had massive amounts of blutac holding them together. I've left bits ungled for painting, but they hadn't even been glued to their bases (some still aren't) At any rate, I'm not sure if there is a good group shot of them on here yet, so I uploaded one:
... not to say this is a great picture of them, but it shows all of them off pretty well. bit of blur here and there but what can I do, these are all on my phone.
Anyhoo, here's another picture of the Acolyte/Kommando Nob. I have been struggling with how to equip him. I figure he can change from game to game, be more of a counts as model. I think the most acurate way to do it is a choppa and kombi-skorcha, but I like the idea of running him with a PK from time to time. It might be a hard sell with that choppa on his shoulder.
Thanks for reading, and if you have any good links to help me get in the mode for some GS, I would appreciate it. I want to get these guys done.

Thank's for the nudge. I worked on more gluing and mold line removal yesterday. I did manage to start the GS on one neck... it was funny, as I mixed JUST enough to get the base bulk of the neck.
Keep kicking me to get 'em done and it should happen a bit quicker. I really wanna get these gits done, too. But I gotta finish modeling them before I can paint 'em.

Post by: The Good Green
Thank Monkeytroll. I've got some more work done... still stalling on some GS, but I did some work to that end. Here's some picks: First off, the Rokkit Servitork got his rokkit (finally) and an exhaust vent for his pack. The Acolyte Nobz got their elbows finished off, tho the Tankbusta needs a shoulder still and the Kommando has his trophies glued on, too. Finally, I propperly attached the Iron Gob to the WAAAGH Banna. Besides the Tankbusta's shoulder, most of the GS is gap filling (oh yeah, I filled the gaps in Gutsnik's Dred Klaw) and some fleshy bits for the servitor and admech nobz... and the backing for the rokkit on the servitor. ps: a lot more is pinned and ready to glue, as well, but I want to paint some of it first.

He's thinking about counting his bionork hand a PK or taking his choppaz... strike faster or strike harder? No pics at the moment. I went out to my FLGS to pick up a new GS sculpting tool thingy. I don't know where my last one ran off to. At any rate, the Nobs should be done much sooner now. I also got another pack of snotling. The pack had a bunch of snots with shrooms and a few others that I didn't have yet so I'm stoked. Even a few that are perfect for my fantasy goblin cult. So I started painting a few of them should have pics of their base coats soon. I'm working on skin color for the most part. Gotta figure it out before I get started on the orks. :edit: one more thing, just found this article. It's a sweet compilation of old and new ideas for civilian vehicles in 40K. I'm really excited about this in regard to the Naval depot, that I am continuing to plan as a future project. ANYHOO- here's the link: http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Civilian_vehicles_in_40k. A BIG thanks to Kidkyoto for writing it! also gonna pimp this thread, some awesome conversions: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?280176-Da-Waagh-Mediko/page14 edit again just picked up a copy of IA 8... Ok, I've got some pics this time. Almost all the GS is done on the nobz and I've got a minimum unit of shoota boyz assembled and ready for paint! On to the pics: Fun trophy hand bunra for the Kommando Acolyte Nob Mekanikus Nob has coat tails and his pack is GSed a bit too Got a pin to hold up the Servo-Nobz kombi-rokkit Remember dis boy? He finally got his launcha fixed and here's my first legal unit of boyz - shoota boyz dat iz! I forgot, some of them still need shoulder pads before paint... and they might get additional accessories, too. Sorry some of the pics aren't very crisp. That'll be a bit of armour sculpting.

I've already got all three units primed... well, mostly. Some of the bits I left detachable are still waiting for their first coat. I just don't have enough tiny holder things. SOOooo... just played my first game of 40K It went pretty well.
I had a KFF Mek (Gutsnik) and a Weird Boy for HQs. My 370 point nob squad and a kommando squad with 2 burnas (both of which did absolutely nothing) for elites, and a unit of shoota boyz and grots for troops.
He had Chaos Marines lead by a War Lord and Sorcerer on bikes, with some Havocs and an Obliterator for heavies, and a squad of chaos marines and summoned demons for troops (I think).
Total points (if we both counted right) was 990. We got through two turns before we had to call it due to time of night.
Da Growlaz and da Grotarii really shined in the game, while Batork, the weird boy, was deffinitly the mvp. First shot fired, Batork rolls a 3 on the powers table: S10 melta hits his Warlord right in the face, killing him outright... if we did that right. (S10 vs T5?)
After that, however, the rest of the shooting was abysmal that turn. Also, due to the terrain his havocs had a commanding view of the table so my nobs started behind the only cover I had in my deployment zone (a building in which I hid my KFF). His shooting whittled my troops down a bit, but I made half my saves so I was pretty happy.
Turn 2, we got confused about reserves and deep striking. My kommandos didn't come on, but he summoned those demons. So we figured out where they landed, which was tricky enough that we may have done it wrong, but then it was my turn. My weird boy rolled frazzle this time, but I throw it at the wrong target. The demons were all clumped together, but Batork was still more interested in killing dem mareenz.
Anyhoo, Da Growlaz took the chaos marine squad down to 2 marines with some help from Batork. The rokkit and big shoota did nothing the whole game. The Sorcerer zoomed up and charged the grots which inflicted 2 wounds while taking minimal loses. The grot prod did very little, but I definitely felt the use of that grabba stick.
In the end, I won due to Batork getting 3 points in 1 for making the first kill, killing the warlord and having wiped out the whole unit. We were playing the kill everything mission. Though, he got 1 point for killing the grots. At the end of his assault phase, the sorcerer had taken out enough grots that they needed to LD test and we decided the demons could charge that turn because I had a turn of shooting at them already. So I conceded that the grots would have been overrun, after the demons killed most of the remaining grots and Runtherd.
So... that's a 2 up for Da Ordo Gorkamorka - WWAAAAAAAGGHH!
I'm sure we screwed up the rules all over the place. Not only was it my first game, it was the first game he has played in years and years... so... yeah. But it was a lot of fun, and the way Batork preformed I am very happy with weirdboyz.
Thanks for reading, and I should have a painting progress pic for you soon. Da Growlaz uniforms are almost done.

Yeah, it was quite nice. We took hours longer just looking at each others minis. Reading through the rule book, I've seen some of the mistakes we made. I'm sure there's some I still don't see. That's fine, though. We both had fun playing, and we played at my place, so my Bigtoof terrain got some play. Also, that means I get to make the house rules

Here's a bit of the painting I've down in the last week. It's not much, but I have a good excuse this time: it was so hot the paint was drying up in the blink of an eye! I decided to do more base coating of large areas (and skin) on the shoota boyz, the nob squad, Gutsnik and the half sized Grotarii unit that I finally glued together (no mater how I'll fit a brush in). Anyhow, here's a pic As you can see, I'm keeping up the multi-colored ork skin, but I've limited the color pallet for the grots. The Grotarii are getting straight forward mekanikus costumes, while the nobz are gonna be a bit trickier. I'm planning on doing washes for the fabric and edge highlights for the metal bits.So I'm sticking to washes for now, then I'll switch over and do the metal. Here's another pic to show where the other units are I also stared painting that squib Anyhoo, let me know what you think, if you have any suggestions or comments and thanks for reading.

Been a while since I've updated. Mostly due to slow progress, but I have been working on the boyz still. It's a harder transition for me than I was expecting, switching from modeling to painting. I was trying to do batch painting, but it just wasn't keeping my focus. So I started thinking about it differently and I've been able to paint a bit easier, tho it still turns into a bit of batch painting (which makes me laugh a little). Anyhoo, here's a few shoddy pics so you can see just how slow I've been going. Here's Gutsnik: The green bits of metal are going to get the turquoise treatment and only his skin has any kind of layering at this point Here's where most of da boyz are: but I've started the straps on some of them: again, the green shoulder pads are gonna be turquoise later The nobz have been a bit slower even: Here's were the grotarii are: Also, I haven't given up on the grot platform: OR Lokun... but the pic of him came out so bad... I'll have to retake it and post him later. Mostly, he's just been based. Also, I just picked up a tau piranha, that had been horribly assembled, on the cheap. It'll probably be a kopta... I haven't compared it's size yet to my looted sawfish (which is also still wip ). So- I started prying it apart and cleaning it up right away, and this is how I've reassembled it so far. Just a bit of rehab before I loot it. You know, cause Da Ordo Gorkamorka only uses da best bitz Just wanted to say I was still alive and in the hobby, even if just barely. Seeing all the awesome work that I've been missing out on, here at Dakka, has really set me in the mood lately too. ps: I like the fluff for the planet of Baran, so that'll be the basic fluff for 88 Tanstar moving forward.

Interesting stuff! Going to keep an eye on this. Any reason why you are hand painting white base instead of white primer? (Sorry if it answer is some where in the 20pages)

Oh, it's just cause I don't have any primer.
Thanks for the kind words, in the mean time. I've been doing a little painting, but still nothing pic worthy.

Hi everybody. After a long hiatus and a losing fight to finish painting all those green skins, I have returned to modeling. Here are the newly promoted boyz (they're the only ones that made it through field testing the rokkits):
Da squad
Da nob
'is rokkit boyz
Da Runtherd
'is grenadierz
and dis mekboy dat tags along wif extra loud gubinz
The squig'll be eating a few grenades before I'm done with him, and that one grenadier still needs a rokkit pistol, but I'm pretty happy with how the squad came out. I've also started work on a minimal squad of flashgitz.
I need to get a paint station set up proppa or sumfing. I dunno what I'm missing but I hate sloggin through the brush strokes. Guess I should have gotten stuck on an elites army. I think I'm going to do as much modeling as I can before I figure out how to paint the whole army. I've got the color scheme and everything, but I don't have the patients... or the time.
Anyhow, thanks for reading. Let me know what you think.

looking good liking your kitbashes alot. didn't read all the fluff honestly, but interested to see what you are doing with the night gobbos/grots
Really like the deck on top of that one gits back. I have a metal kaptain badruk who is in process of getting mega armor and a wood deck like that atop him, with a pirate ship flat (bosspole) and crows nest/grot gunner. Giving me some inspiration to finish em
edit: moar squigsssss

Thanks skyfi. I've got to put together a few more of those Grotarii before too long. I don't think I'll get back to my squig cult until the Ordo Gorkamorka is in good standing (but I am looking forward to it). Glad to hear the inspiration is contagious still.
Here's a shot of some flashgitz showing off their dakka.
The one on the left isn't much of a conversion, relly just a bit-swap. They are all still waiting for the doc to finish their gitfindaz, too.
Let me know what you think of their gunz. Also let me know if you think the dual pistols can pass for flashgitz gunz or if I should strap the gun on the floor to his back (or something).

There's always at least ONE Git who thinks Moar Gunz = Moar Dakka. I have one of my own. Granted, all my Flashgitz have Beemy weppinz.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Thanks guys. I'm takin your advise Anvildude and strapping the extra gun to the pistol-gitz back = Moar Dakka! The other two look like their getting grot sidekicks to keep the gunz loaded and an eye on the target. In the mean time, I started working on the grotarii again. Well, I started collecting bits for 'em, but I wasn't really feelin it. So I pulled the one gettin painted out to help inspire and remembered that I had started with the bases. On that note, here's some pics Not much to look at yet, but I thought I'd show I'm still working on the older projects... here and there at least. I also picked this up recently. I mean the trailer. Got the wheels on ebay, found the trailer. Still needs plenty of modding. I've also got Bigtoof set up to get me motivated to finish it. I still need to see if I have any plaster around.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Those bases are fantastic GG, and I can't wait to see what you do with that semi.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Thanks Gits.
I've got 20 boyz modeled, all but 5 are PIP while the last 5 that I made are still waiting for some glue. No pics yet :( but I'll get some up later on. I'll be working on the remaining 16 grotarii next. I've been working on Bigtoof a bit, too. So I'll showcase the new models in town.
Any suggestions for the semi? It's got so many rivets on it already, I don't really want to cover them up...
I'm thinking about a catwalk on the top of the trailer. Some armour plating on the sides (but how much?) and a ramp and swinging doors in the back. Maybe a boarding plank near the middle of the trailer.
Any thoughts? and thanks for reading.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Catwalk and rails on top would be good. Perhaps you could add some gun emplacements to the sides? I don't think you'd want to cover the whole thing up with armor, but sections here and there would be good, especially near the bottom partially covering the wheels. Depending on if you want to give it some options... you could do some fun, creative things like boarding planks or the swinging ball thingie. You could even open sections of the sides up and expose interior detail (like gunners or occupants).
45857
Post by: SelvaggioSaky
I do agree on the coverage with plates on the wheels.
The gun emplacement could be mounted on top at front and back and just glue some shoota out of the windows

Post by: The Good Green
Thanks for the good ideas guys. They've got me thinkin. Here's a few pics fer ya. The first one shows where most of Da Growlaz are in painting. I say most because five more boyz found their way into the horde (and one has a big shoota ) This last one is just a peek at where I am with Bigtoof Proppa. I still need to make stairs down to the first floor from the deck. The boy is just for scale. I've got a few weeks off work coming up, so I should get Bigtoof plastered and one coat of paint. The details will get added after the plaster... so the paint may take longer. As for the semi... I'm thinking of making the center section (between the ladder lookin bits) into a two floor number, so I can put a kontral sentar in the second floor. The first floor will be mostly open with platforms for boyz to shoot from. Probably a latter up from one of the platforms, and a small deck toward the front of the trailer, to get to the hatch on the roof of the cab. Should be a fun build... it'll really drive it home for me, how many rivets I'm not putting on my builds. (yet - I haven't finished any of them ) Anyhoo, thanks for reading. Let me know what you think. ps: the armour plating on the wheels and in spots on the trailer is the plan thx agn)

Thanks Gits. I'm just posting a note about the fluff so I don't forget later. The Shoota Boyz are from Da 7ph Krumpany and the Tankbustaz are from Da 9ph Krumpany. I picked reserver companies because my warboss is a bigmek, part of Da Ordo Gorkamorka (my orky version of the mechanicus), so he can only muster troops from the reserve ranks due to his status in da WAAAGH! [mostly because the Big Waaagh Warboss doesn't think a big mek could get into a fight big enough for one of da fightin' krumpaneez] [The 'ard Boyz are from the 8th krumpany] because they also have Landspeeders, and the Landspeeder Storm is how I think of my looted Sawfish being used. It's gonna carry the 'ard boyz into the hairiest part of the battle, with the usual objective of backing up the kommandoz. Now the kommandoz aren't from a krumpany. Gutsnik's branch of Da Ordo Gorkamorka recruits them from every tribe they encounter. They will even recruit from some of da krumpanyz if they see a sneaky git survive a battle. The grotarii are also a part of Da Ordo Gorkamorka. The Flashgitz are from the 1st, or Fist Krumpany, as they are veterans of Da WAAAGH! I think the Nobz most closely resemble a command squad with a tech marine attached. The Supergrots of Bigtoof are still IG and most of the special characters are planned, but I'm not trying to work on that until I've got Gutsnik's army done. I've been pushing to get all the units as close to assembled as possible for painting. The I think I'll try jumping all over the army to paint it. Five boyz from one unit and a few nobz, that sort of thing. I need to figure out a way to finish painting... not losing determination to finish. (edit is in [ ]... most of it anyway)

Very thorough... and impressive I might add. My orks (or any army) are never that well sorted out. They're lucky they're wearing the same colors!
17244
Post by: The Good Green
hahaha well, you have to remember this army is Blood Axe. The IG horde is a Snake Bite clan, so they will be much less organized - looking. Also, all of the heavy weapons will be converted to not weapon things... like the BBQ I made a while back. I'm gonna use a huge stew pot, with grots pouring hot peppers and squig meat in, for a melta. Heavily a counts as army, with rickety trukks instead of tanks. One Infantry Platoon will be restaurant and bar themed with town dwellers to fill out the ranks. So the hvy weapons team is the kitchen staff and the infantry squad is the wait-staff and customers sort of thing.
... but I've put that on the back burner for now, though I am looking forward to it a great deal. I might try to get some more work done on my WHFB Squig Cult in between the two 40K armies.

Thanks guys. I'm just poppin in cause I remembered something about the Super Grot army. Some of the heavy weapons, mostly for the moonshine grots, will be modeled as dragon/squig type creatures that spit fire or plasma or whatever. An easy "counts-as" model. As for the Ordo Gorkamorka, I've only got the 'ard boyz and the mobile kroot to model, nevermind the looted sawfish and maybe a trukk. I just ordered some flyin ork headz for the 'ard boyz and the looted sawfish crew. :edit: just a few notes to make sure I don't forget. Gotta give the 'ard boyz knee pads and some kind of arm guards. Lots of iron gobs too.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
I've been seriously considering scrapping my first looted sawfish in favor of using piranhas as the base. My other option is to redesign the scratch built one. Now that I've got a piranha, the old sawfish just doesn't cut it for me. Maybe I'll give the papercraft a go, instead of using plasticard. On the plus side, the deffkopta pilot fits pretty well in the piranha (if you cut his knees off).
It's really almost a perfect fit... once you cut a bunch of plastic off. ;p
I've also started the mockups for the 'ard boyz that will be riding the sawfish into battle. Here's one making his assault straight from the sawfish
Here's one on the charge
and here's a couple grenadiers
I'm waiting on ebay for some more legs, but I also will need to cut up most of their legs to repose them. I'll be doing some foot swaps too. I think I'll pick up some more black orc arms to fill out the unit too. I only got 8 in the first batch.
Anyhoo, thanks for reading. Lemme know what you think.

Well, I've been waiting on bits... most of them have arrived now, but I just haven't been feeling the hobby vibe the last few days. I've set up almost every project, some in groups, to work on and gotten nowhere. I have been trying to get more grotarii modeled, and the 'ard boyz for the looted sawfishs I've been working on. Sorting through bits endlessly, mulling over poses, and finally it dawned on me - when I made the first group of grotarii I was in the habbit of pinning almost everything. I was away for long enough that I haven't wanted to pin anything. Some of the 'ard boyz and the tankbustas have metal bits... just glued to the plastic. So far it hasn't been much of a deal because the surface area on the ork bits is big enough to accommodate enough glue to hold the weight. The night goblin models from the way-back-machine have such small joint surfaces it's hard to get the blutac to stick.
So, after going through my entire bits collection... I have realized that I need to put away all of the orks for a moment so that I might finish modeling the grotarii, as well as spackle the exposed foam on the Bigtoof buildings. I haven't had to energy or concentration to work on such fine detail in a while. Now that I'm well into the first half of my summer vacation I think I am ready to give it another go.
I should have pictures to show you some time tomorrow. After I've got Bigtoof well spackled I'll start back on the sawfish... think I'll call it Da' Sawtoof. (gives me an idea for the grill )

Mah weird boyz gone an' dug up dis 'ere tred wiff sum awsm head-sploshuns! It waz a site ta see, all deez boyz clawin' up outa da ground. Dunno who brot does weedy grots back tho.
Hi everyone. Been gone a while. Popped in every now and again to see what you guys have been up to. I have been impressed more each time I come back and it's done a lot to get me motivated to work on my hobby again. I'm happy to say I've finally started working on my grotarii again. They are about half way through modeling. I also just numbered most of the army (under-base) for foam storage purposes, so the whole (mostly assembled) army was out on my table. I took the opportunity to get some pics. I also pulled out my wii motor pool to get in the action. So this post isn't just threadmancy, it's also a photo dump.
I'm not sure how much is new, besides the grots having more than just a base. The pics are more catalog than glam shot, just sayin.
Here's the Big Mek, Gutsnik, and my nobz. I divided them up into CC and shooty (tho it's hard to tell that in these pics), because three are Flash Gitz. The rest are kitted out nobz, but too are shooty enough to roll with the gitz, so they are for now.
Here's the 9 Tankbustaz I've made. The nob is right in the middle, with 2 tankhammaz and a squigherder in the left column.
Here's the kommandoz, filling out the elite slots with some burnt dance fun. I haven't completely decided who the nob in this squad is… maybe they share the roll, choosing a different nob for each mission. There's a little git with a pk in the middle 2nd row, a tough looking big git in the middle 4th row, and right behind him is a smallish snikrot (two killy blades).
Now fer da boyz! Here's my shoota boyz mob. They hail from the 3rd Krumpany, bringing 2 big shootaz from their dakka lokker. The nob is off to the left.
Here we have Grotsnik's Grotarii. I have a couple options for Runtherders in this unit, much like the kommandos. There is Grotsnik's lucky human off to the left (he is very good at finding gubbins). There is also a Grotbot, second from the left in the first row, who will have a KFF like device (from 1st/2nd edition) in bigger games. I also have 2 Grotarii with 'special weapons' (one being a grotprod).
And here is the junkyard that is my motor pool… everything here still needs a lot of work.
The semi is a BW. I've got to make the piranhas a bit bigger before I can run them as Warkoptaz (from FW) and the Scrap Trukk is followed by 3 buggies from Da DeffSkull Towin' Krompany. That takes up 2 fast attack slots and the 3rd goes to the Mobile Kroot.
To finish it off, here's a pic of the foam. I've got it stuffed into an old suitcase. At some point I'll start modding the suitcase to make it look more like my orks.
It was kinda fun cutting out all those odd shapes.
Anyhoo, hope you liked what little you could see in the pics. I'll have more interesting pics of the grotarii when they have arms. I'm almost done with their right arms. I'm looking forward to working on their heads a bit more tho. I also have those 'are boyz to work on, but that'll wait till after the grotarii are done being modeled.
Thanks for reading.

Post by: The Good Green
Thanks you guys.
@Gits: Yeah, the mater trucks are really just getting an orky patchwork of metal plates and a gun or two. Nothing major for those.
I just finished pinning the grotarii's gun arms so I slapped them on for a quick pic. The left arms should be coming soon. I've got a lot of bits picked out already.
The gun-knives are all pointing in different directions to add to the haphazard look of the squad.
You can see some of the height difference on a few of the models (a little bit) and how they will be holding the gunstaffs. Also a tease at a new bit of terrain I got (fisher-price goody).
Sorry for continuing the crumby phone pics. I found my camera, but the batteries are dead. :\
Well, the grotarii are coming along. Plenty of work left, but it's mostly mold line removal. The cybork bitz aren't gonna be so heavy in the unit as in the first five. I will be adding a bunch of cybork head modz tho, but they are so small… and fiddly.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks you guys. The Flashgitz of Da Ordo Gorkamorka are veterans from Gutsnik's kommandos. Having proven themselves with big shootas and living to tell the tale they were rewarded with super-killy guns and speshly fitted gitfindaz to further develop their shooty prowess. They have managed to survive and flourish, growing into powerful nobz and amassing an arsenal from their enemies bullet-ridden armies. The best are given what can only be described as a rail rifle, however few believe orks are possible of such technology. That the weapons owner believes seems enough to produce results. Hi folks. I was just thinking about thematic ideas for the flashgitz i'm "working on". You've seen a few of them (those that have been modeled atm) but I have been meaning to put more Tau into the army. So I have been planning some rail rifle flashgitz. I was just pondering which side of my Blood Axe clan they would hail from (Da Spass Mareenz or Da Mekanikus) and I'm going with the above. So they will probably get more camp than the shoota boyz mob. Tho, I might add camp to a few of the boyz to make them stand out. The Flashgitz will blend in better with the kommandos, tho with less camo (probably). It also means they can have much different personalities, as far as the modeling will allow at least. I've always thought of my Spass Mareenz very much akin to the early stormboyz, you know, back when they didn't come with rokkit packs. They were just well disciplined (for orks). Just wanted to write that fluff bit down so I didn't forget.

Well, I've been working on my flashgitz a bit this weekend and I've got them close to the green-stuff to-do list. They all have their gitfindas now and there's a whole unit without the pain boy. I've got an old painboy for the squad, but he still needs an arm. I'm pretty happy with how all the snazzgunz turned out but there's still some clean up to do… more so now that I've seen the pics. Something else to mention about the fluff of the unit. They were hand picked by Gutsnik and assigned to Shakkstoff, Da Masta uv Dakka. They serve as his retinue. This was the first flashgun I started on. His snazzgun just came together straight out of my bitz box. Finally got around to his gitfinda, but that's all thats new on him so... Here's my second flashgit. He's had a gitfinda the longest, but his snazzgun finally got a handle and trigger. again - pic if you want to Here's the third flashgit to join the ranks. His snazzgun got a tune-up while the doc was fittin' his gitfinda. Now for the two brand new members of Shakkstoff's retinue I feel like the last gun is still missing something… besides a trigger, but I like how it's looking all the same. They'll probably get a little more detail on the bodies with some GS before I move them to the painting to-do list. Plus the bases. Don't know when I'll get around to more, but I'm very happy with how these gitz turned out and I'm pleased to say I've got another legal unit build and on the way. I'm sure holding my breath for a new codex. Anyhoo, thanks for reading.

You know what game would really fit Flashgitz?
Loadout.
As a matter of fact, I think I'm gonna name my next custom gun "Snazzgun" in honor of them.

Loadout would be perfect! I've been wishing for an Ork skin mod for that game. Any modders on the forum? wink-wink

Go on the forums. There's a few people talking about the next çharacter' they're adding- I think I've seen Greenskin come up once or twice.
Or just a series of outfits for the existing characters. I could see Axl as an Ork.

Good to see you GG.....flashgitz looking sweet...particularly fond of the looted railgun with twin rows of exhausts - I'll be looting that idea sometime

Thanks Monkeytroll. I am particularly happy with that gun too. Well, I finally got started on my Shokk Attack Gun Big Mek. He's still WIP, but the gun is mostly done. Loads of GS on the vacuum tube to thicken it up. Maybe an exhaust pipe somewhere… any suggestions would be appreciated. I was looking around my house for almost a full day, trying to find the right sized tube for the SAG. Shakkstoff still needs his Gitfinda too (or some kinda bionics, he is a big mek after all).

Late comer to this blog, but fantastic work, especially on the Flash Gitz
But I do have to ask;

How many partial gays do you have at your house?

LOL, you wouldn't believe how many partial gays I have around here. Thanks for the editing.

Yeah, give it an exhaust, a few wires, and possibly a grot's feet sticking out the end of the hose?

good grief! well, that one is an auto-correct goof.
That reminds me, I do have another wire to add to the SAG straight away.

So I've got my 'ard boyz mostly assembled. The still need some clean up and plenty of shoulder pads. I think the GS will have to come before the shoulder pads for some of them tho. here's the pics Here we have the nob and grenadiers Some of da boyz. You can see what I mean about the GS coming first. Here's where they start to get confused and think their stormboyz… The fluff behind this unit is basically the land speeder storm. Only their vehicle (a warkopta) is a looted sawfish (a concept tau vehicle). So I wanted to model some of them about to land. I modeled the humans as outlanders. They are just unlucky people who got chosen for target practice. There's gonna be a good amount of GS on them too, mostly for clothes. As you can tell, there are a lot of shoulder pads missing. Part of that is the massive gaps where their shoulders should be. The other part is that I want to give some of them the old World Eater shoulder pads. Those always looked like ork faces to me. I will try to sculpt some of the shoulder pads too. We'll see how that turns out when I get to the GS. So… besides some cleanup… the only "infantry" unit I have left to assemble is the Mobile Kroot. I've been trying to figure out how to make the mopeds for a long time now and I think I've finally given into the reality that I have to make the tires from scratch (at least most of the tires). I'll be using an elder jet bike as reference for the body of the mopeds. Hope you like the 'are Boyz. Let me know what you think and thanks for reading. (note to self: that makes 1800 points or so of assembled, unfinished models)

Ard boyz are coming together nicely - I like the idea ofthe old WE pads being used, they do make good orky pads I feel - or even heads
The boys landing on the humies with a nice 'krump' are cool, especially liking the one coming over the wall
And excited to hear the mobile kroot are back on the cards

The new model I've been working on to keep from doing the Moped Kroot, still very WIP: It's meant to be a killa kan modeled after a squig... using an IG sentinel for parts. Just to show I'm still kicking around... ps, thanks monkeytroll (I do have my Mobile Kroot bits box out now, so I should be getting to them when I finish this Killa Squig's feet)

Post by: The Good Green
Hi you guys. I've done some more work on the first Squig Kan. It's got feet and that wire on the back of the legs of a sentinel. Still needs loads of rivets and a few patched up spots. I've got two more cut out and waiting for assembly as well.
Here's a picture of what they look like before I cut them out if anyone was wondering:
I've also been working over how I want to organize my list, fluff wise. I don't really worry about competitive builds. I figure that's what tactics are for. But I've been trying to figure out who the Deff Dreds should be associated with. Since I've got two Big Meks that are mimicking the Mechanicus and all of my Boyz are from Da 3rd Krumpany, a Waaagh that has modeled itself after space marines. I also want to model the Dreds different ways, that is, I really want to make a "construction dred" with a pilot that can exit the vehicle, but I also like the idea of an old mekaniak wiring himself into a deed to extend his life. So I'll probably make both, but where should they go in the factions?
I'm leaning toward having the construction dred as part of the Big Mek's motor pool, but the wired-in dred(s) can be fallen hero's that the doc "rescued" from the battle field. Or anyway, the different builds will be different kinds of fluff. I dunno, I'm still trying to nail it down. If you have any suggestions or feelings about it please let me know.
Another project for AFTER the mobile kroot is a unit of Deff Koptaz modeled after the Squig Kan, only with "wings" instead of legs and a tail that curls under it's belly with a buzz saw... so, the buzzer squigs squadron. The wings'll be some kind of helicopter blade set up, or a jump pack kit bash, things like that. A similar mouth, so I can change the ranged weapons... I want to get some magnets for that.
Another note on a project I need to get back to is the super grots of Bigtoof Proppa. I want to organize them, list wise, so I can run them as counts-as-imperial guard OR as grots for my orks. The main problem I'm having is finding a proper "equivalent" for the runtherds, to differentiate them from the guardsmen. I think the commissars will work nicely for that, but I also think the Priests could work as Runtherds, so I think the plan is to model 30 man platoons of grots with Commissars and/or Priests added onto each unit, to a maximum of 3 added characters per platoon. Any IG units I end up wanting to have in the super grot army will have to be groupable into 30 man hordes with an added character per each 10. That's my plan. Ogryn can be Nobs. I think it's be funny to play this army with the old catachan rules for commissars some time... if I ever finish it
Anyhoo, thanks for reading. Just felt like ranting a bit about up coming plans. I'll have some more time for the hobby over the summer so I've been thinking about what I want to take care of and where I wanna take certain projects. Hopefully I can get the next two Squig Kanz on their feet before too long.

Before you got to the second paragraph, I would've said just like you : 1st construction Dred with the Mek, 2nd with the Krumpany !
Other concepts sound fun too, and Commissars should represent Runtherdz pretty nice ! (Plus, if the Grots flee, the Runtherd/Kommissar will just execute/stomp/eat one of them to keep them fighting... That's fluffy !)
We'll see how it turns out !

Thanks Gits and Thraka.
Yggdrasil, the thing that makes me pause about the dreds is the fluff about HQ characters getting put into dreadnoughts. Well, that and the mechanics war engines, the mechs that build themselves up into ultimate battle machines... the Auxilia Myrmidon I think. Those bits of fluff make me want to model the dreds as big meks that have wired themselves into their best dred.
So... I think all of the options for the dreds work great, but they would end up in different parts of the WAAAGH. Forgeworld has a dred hq, right? That could be the big mek dred. I think that might even be what it is for FW. Then there could be the construction dred for odd jobs around the workshop and the dreds in the Krumpany could be the more standard dreds, strong orks that were dragged off the battle field by the painboyz.
Of course, the dreds are all a ways off. I am sort of trying to, and trying to not plan a whole Chapta for this waaagh. More for fun than accrual modeling plans. Tho, if I had the chance ($$) to get in that deep, I think I would.
I do want to make a small herd of Boarboyz for Bigtoof and a small unit of lootaz as the Deff Skullz Towing crew. Nevermind the grots of Bigtoof and the mobile kroot. So, fun plans and ideas for expansion... I've also been trying to dream up two stompas for Gork and Mork (robotic or not). But that's all after I get a few more units modeled and then paint everything.
I've decided to do the whole army in stages. So, modeling everything (plastic and glue) then greenstuff where needed. After everything is ready for paint, then I'll change over my hobby station for painting. This is all because I have very limited space.
As it turns out, I've got monday off. So I should have some time to put the next two squig kanz together. It'll be fun kustomizin them.
Thanks for reading.

So the rumours for 7th Ed suggest that you may potentially be able to have an army without the normal FoC restrictions.
Which means you could potentially now have a full Dred Mob army just by filling the whole thing with Deffdreds.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
That is pretty exciting, but I'm more happy about being able to filed all of the sub groups of my waaagh. Tho I feel I've lost something. The limiting features of the rules and FOC are part of why I started back up with the hobby. Of course, they have't taken it away, just made it optional. So I can still use it.
Still, that might be why I started thinking about a whole Chapta for my waaagh. Dangerous thoughts...
17710
Post by: Yggdrasil
Yeah, don't get overboard with your Waagh lol !
As for the dreads, well... I don't have the IA books where (potentially) you have a HQ Dred, sadly... So I cannot say !
The Unbound concept in 7th has got me all psyched with the endless possibilities... I'll try and stay focused (focussed?) too !

Interesting plan you're putting together GG!
Buzzer squig squadron sounds cool - now get on those mobile kroot so you can get onto them
....................
Modelling EVERYTHING first? Then GS EVERYTHING? Then paint EVERYTHING? Ambitious
.........
The FW list is for Dread Mobs...
HQ - Big Mek, Pain Boss, Kustom Meka-Dread ( )
Elites - Burna Boyz, Cybork Slasha Mob, Mekboy Junka
Troops - Spanna Boyz, Gretchin Scavengers, Dread Mob
Fast Attack - Deffkoptas, Warkoptas, Killa Kan Mob, Grot Tank Mob
Heavy Support - Mega-Dread, Lootas, Looted Wagon, Lifta Wagon, Big Trakk
So there's your big mek dread, and different mobs of dreads could be the construction gang, the combat gang, etc.
And why limit yourself to a Chapta....Get a whole Krusade going

@Yggdrasil:
@Monkeytroll: Thanks for the unit list for the FW codex.
So, I've got a question for all of you. I've been trying to decide on a painboy for the flashgitz. I've got two that I'm picking from now. The problem I'm having is that I really wanted to use one of them as a nob for the deff skulls towing. The thing is, I'm not use I want them to have a nob anymore. Tell me what you think. The fluff for the Deff Skullz Towing company is that they were left behind by their first WAAAGH when they stopped to work on some gunz. Well, when they were done with the gunz, and the rest of the boyz noticed the waaagh had left, they didn't have enough working vehicles to catch up with the waaagh. So they opened a towing and salvage company to collect more vehicles/parts to get back to their waaagh. Of course, their meks can't help themselves and they keep making guns for their boyz instead of trukks to get back to business. So, they definitely need some meks, but should they get a nob? I mean, after a while wouldn't one of the boyz get big enough to be a nob?
So, Deff Towing is gonna have a unit of lootaz, but should they get a unit of boyz or spanna boyz? The difference being spannaz get a mek instead of a nob (I think the mek is the only one that can upgrade his gun too).
And then - if Deff Towing doesn't get this guy as a nob
should he be the Flash Gitz painboy (also likely to be a Pain Boss in future is he goes that way)
Or should this guy be the painboy
Now, this guy... I have a plan for this model too. I wanna ale him an ork jedi. I think he'd make a pretty good painboy too tho.
I guess the real question I'm asking is should the first ork (with all the skulls) be a Pain Boss or a Deff Skullz Nob?
Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.
ps: should have another kan mostly assembled later today, but I need more of those big bases before I'll be able to finalize the legs.

He seems to fit the bill as a scavenger type with his assorted pouches, so I'd say Nob for the Deff Skullz Towing Co.
And ork jedi hey? Sounds interesting

Yeah, that second one definitely has "Painboy" written all over him. Just imagine a nice tight linen facemask over those lips, and a big ol' reflector thingy on his forehead, him peering into anovva Ork'z mouf.
Hrm... Painboy Dentist?

Well, I never made it around to the other two Kan Squigs, but I added some more detail to the first one. I also had to reassemble it after a quick introduction to the floor. I'm not entirely satisfied with the feet. For that reason the feet will likely be the most variation on the kanz. Then there's the exhaust and gun options to make. As is it will count as a grotzooka. you might notice the moped template under it. I'm working on em... ever so slowly. Those templates are big enough that both wheels fit on an infantry base. The templates give me both the wheels and the body of the moped and I'll use some bits for the engines. Then it's on to posing the kroot. Thanks for your input on my painboy options, guys. I like the idea of the second one bending over to examine a victim. PS: As I was cutting out some mopeds I remembered another option for the mobile kroot. I could make them on jet bike sort of things based on Tau vehicle propulsion. The reason for the tau jet bikes idea was to conform better to the rules for jump infantry. I am still gonna make the mopeds, but I might try to keep the kroot removable so I can make the jet bikes with the same poses... but I think I'll only really go for the jet bikes if I start playing more competitively.

Been cutting out moped shaped bits of plastic... nothing to show for it yet. But I do have an outline for Da Chaptaz orkanizashun: Da WAAAGH Chapta: Master of the Chapter: Ghazghkull Senior Officers: Meganobz, Mad Doc Grotsnik, Big Meks Administrative and Support Staff: Grots and oddboyz Techmarines: Meks Servitors: Spanna Boyz, Grots, Cyborks Librarians: Weirdboyz, Warpheadz Dredz: 2-6 per krumpany, 1st Krumpany can have more and 10th krumpany can't have any, KMB only for Mek Dredz Krumpany HQs Captain: Warboss Chaplain, Apothecary, Standard Bearer: Nobz, Painboy 1st Krumpany (Veterans) Terminators: Meganobs Veterans: Nobz, Flashgitz Dreadnoughts: Deff Dreds, Mega Dredz (Character Dredz) Rhinos: Trukks Land Raiders: Battle Wagons Battle Krumpaneez (2nd - 5th) Tactical: Shoota Boyz Assault: Slugga Boyz/Stormboyz/Hardboyz Devastators: Tankbustas/Lootaz Dreadnoughts: Deff Dreds (Dredz 0-2) Rhinos: Trukks Landspeeders: Deffkoptas/Warkoptaz Bikes: Warbikers/Buggies 6th Krumpany Tactical: Shoota Boyz Dreadnoughts: Deff Dreds (Dakka Dredz) Rhinos: Trukks Bikes: Warbikers/Buggies 7th Krumpany Tactical: Shoota Boyz Dreadnoughts: Deff Dreds (Dakka Dredz) Rhinos: Trukks Landspeeders: Deffkoptas/Warkoptaz 8th Krumpany Assault: Slugga Boyz/Stormboyz/Hardboyz Dreadnoughts: Deff Dreds (Kutty Dredz) Rhinos: Trukks Landspeeders: Deffkoptas/Warkoptaz Bikes: Warbikers/Buggies 9th Krumpany Devastators: Tankbustas/Lootaz Dreadnoughts: Deff Dreds (KMB/Rokkit Dredz) Rhinos: Trukks 10th Krumpany Scouts: Kommandos Let me know what you think, if you have any additions or changes you think I should make. Also, if you have any ideas for how to individualize krumpany 2 thru 5. That is, if those chapters lean more toward shooting or close combat or more vehicles, anything like that. This will help a lot when I get to painting the unit markings. Also, now the kommandos aren't just one of Gutsnik's assets but part a proppa part of Da WAAAGH Chapta (Da 10th Krumpany). Likewise, most of da boyz wut got sent to Gutsnik are from da rezerv krumpaneez, as he is a big mek, not a war boss. Thanks for reading.

@Anvildude: You're right, but I'm not sure where they would go. The only thing I can figure is the big gunz are in the armory or the mekanikus. Is there a big guns unit for Space Marines? I know there's a tech marine that can get a gun on tracks, but that's the mekanikus then.

Agreed with Anvildude, TFC would be the perfekt Big Gun !

Well, now that the Big Gunz kit looks like it comes with a mek instead of a runtherd that sounds like more and more the plan. They'll be attached to Shakstof's shop as he is my shooty mek. So they still won't show up on Da Chapta Orkanizashun, instead they will be part of Da Mekanikus. I'm thinking the flashgitz will be assigned to Shakstof to get better at making and maintaining their snazzgunz. While the nobz are from three different sections of the waaagh. There is a mek and his irk servitors, a "chaplain" and his chosen nobz, and then Gutsnik's acolytes.
Also, I was looking into the daemons codex for good Gork and Mork "counts-as" units. I like the sound of a Bloodletter for Gork and a Keeper of Secrets for Mork. I don't know if you can summon greater daemons tho, cause I haven't had a chance to read 7th yet.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Well, if you're using them as proxies for Gork & Mork... why would it matter?? They aren't really summoned demons after all.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
Wouldn't they be, if they come out of the warp onto the battlefield? They are the warp gods of the green skins after all. Also, there haven't ever been rules written for them, right? I figure the greater daemons are the best proxy in the game so far.
26790
Post by: Gitsplitta
Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you were going to use them as proxies for the new Gorkonought and Morkonought. Not Gork and Mork themselves (my bad).
36940
Post by: Anvildude
Thing is, they're described as so big and bad that Khorne himself won't pick a fight with them.
17244
Post by: The Good Green
So.. 10s across the stat line? I dunno, just looking for a reasonable proxy. Also, wouldn't or couldn't some of that "boss of the warp" stuff be exaggerated rhetoric? I can agree that Gork and Mork should be at least as killy as Khorn, but maybe Khorn doesn't want to mess with them cause of their kunnin. Dey outsmarts 'im? @Gits: Oh, that explains the confusion. I might try to figure out something for the 'naughts, but it won't be daemons. Something from da mekanikus for sure. Of course, any thoughts in that direction are a ways off. edit: I'm getting excited about making a Deffskullz DJ with some of the flash glitz bitz... or a sound guy to go with the Goff Rockaz (when I finally get my hands on them)

Dakka? Frag?
17244
Post by: The Good Green
I like the dakka for it, but I went with a checkered stripe. No pictures yet, but I'll be painting it up soonish. I'm also working on a revolver kustom job using a Hellboy revolver template and the slugga template. The bullets'll be modeled to look like plasma slugs. I've also been trying to get a handle on the new detachment rules to field my army better. I'd like to use the irk detachments for the FoC multipliers and some of the special rules, but I'm worried about losing Obsec. Tho, I think with the right tactics and army build that could be negated - as in not leaving a unit on the objective to contest with... but I don't know which of our units is good for that now. At any rate, boyz most important role now seems to be satisfying FoC requirements. Everything else is a bonus. Now that the Red Waaagh has come out I'm liking that Bigmek formation with 3 Big meks a Warboss and a Warphead. Then I can take painboys as HQs in a detachment That way, I've got my 2 Bigmeks and one extra, plus the my HQ characters from Bigtoof Proppa (Batork and Mork Da Ork)... AND I get to field the Nobz and Flashgitz with their own painboy again. I am also super happy about the Ghaz formation as my WAAAGH Chapta Mastaz. So here's what I'm thinking: Mogrok's Bossboyz Snkirot's Kommandos and 1 full CAD lead by 2 painboys. ...no to figure out how many points that is.

Post by: The Good Green
I've been working on another life-sized slugga, but I wanted to make it a kustom-mega-slugga... so it's taking a bit longer. On the other hand, just this morning I realized I had enough boyz in my Deff Towin Boyz pile and enough shootaz (or almost enough) to make them a legal allied detachment. I'll be using a painboy as the HQ, or maybe just a regular mek to save points if needed. I've got a bunch of RT era meks that I'll be using as Lootas. Anyhoo, here's some pics: Here's the lootaz, not much to look at, as I haven't started any of their gunz (save the one) There's 5 meks there that can easily count as lootaz (four need their gunz built and the other has a metal KMB that I'll proxy) and the three on the right will be the meks. Here's da Boyz: You might notice there's a banna and the nob has a bosspole These two are the upper management, the nob and big shoota from the boyz squad Here's the madboyz and their minder. The minder doubles as the runtherd of the company... the trots are on the buggies The two madboyz arms are pinned into place, but I've got them blu-tak'ed on for painting sake later. I know I've said it before but I'd like to reiterate anyway... the idea for this detachment is a trukk broke down and was left behind by their WAAAGH. Since the trukk was busted it had a few meks working on it when the warband left, leaving the meks and a few boyz stranded. Well, the reason it was taking the meks so long to repair the trukk was because their area of expertise is more in the dakka region. As a result, instead of repairing the trukk with which to catch up to the WAAAGH, the meks made a load of deff gunz. Well, the lowly nob that was with them had a hard time being mad at the mixup because now he had a load of deff gunz for his boyz. He did manage to get the meks to make some new wheels, but each mek made their own ride. In this way, none of the vehicles were big enough to fit all of the boyz AND the deff gunz, so the nob had them retrofitted to collect more scrap to make a better trukk. Eventually the meks did get around to making a trukk for da boyz, but by then the band had grown. At any rate, the nob was getting wise to the idea that they were making a profit off collecting scrap, so he didn't want to leave any more. They build quite a business for themselves, towin' wrecks and broken down trukks for anyone they found. The Deff Skullz would fix up the ride and ransom it back to who ever had served waiting for the repairs. After a while the Ordo Gorkamorka landed near by and Gutsnik became their biggest customer. After a while he sent Shakstoff to recruit them into Da Mekanikus. There was a bit of a fight, but when Shakstoff sent a few of them into the warp with his SAG, the Deff Skullz were both terrified and amazed. They agreed to join Gutnik's Waaagh with the hope that Shakstoff would show them how he made the SAG. Here's a pics of the dok's hurty syringe

So I put together four deff gunz. There's a little bit more detail that I will add to some of them, like metal strips to hold pieces together and drilling barrels. Anyhoo, here's some pics:
Above is the one that needs the metal strips to "attach" the GW bits to the blue bit.
I feel like this one needs some metal strips too, to attach the barrels to the body of the gun. Also, I'm not super happy with this one. I've straightened out the barrels a bit, but it seems the most forced to me. Mainly because of the barrels, I think. I may switch them out for some plastic rods.
Here's my favorite of the bunch. I wanted this lootaz gun to be special, because he's the RTE SAG mek model. So I thought his deff gun should be the biggest.
Let me know what you think. Also, if you have any suggestions for the 3rd deffgun, lob 'em at me. Thanks for reading.

You know, after assembling the Deff Skullz Towin crew I realized I have a ton of infantry models almost ready to paint. With the new HQ options I can field them as their own army. I've got 6+ HQ options that are mostly meks.
Maybe you guys can clear something up for me: can the mek boyz be your only HQ? I know they aren't IC and we can take them as a +1 for other HQs, but I can't find anything that says they can't be the only HQ.
Meanwhile, I've got almost 2000 points worth of infantry without upgrades... and I have finally started putting the first moped together. nothing with pics yet. The school year just started up again so work on them won't be much faster, sadly.
I'm getting pretty happy with how my army is shaping up. I've been window shopping for a display case... any suggestions?

Mek boyz can't be your only HQ because you can only take them when you take a HQ choice. They're only boyz after all, they can't be bosses! They have to have someone to boss 'em around.

Pretty much this.
You also can include them in huge quantities in Loota & Burna squads, so that shouldn't be a problem !

Hrmph and curmudgeon. I guess that makes sense, but the wording on the special rule gives me hope. After all, it doesn't say they can't be the only one, just that they can't be taken as a mekboy's +1. But that's why I made a painboy for the Deff Towin mob. Plus, I found a few old grot models (namely the grot hooligan from blood bowl) that will do nicely for killsaw meks. They'll end up being my Repentia Grot models, survivors of the SAG that now wield massive chainsaw weapons.

Good grief. I have been away for so long that I forgot my password, and the password for my email that I used to create my first account here... so I've created this one to try and pick up the blog again. That's right, it's the slow and purposeful return of the good green. It's been a while, like I said above, and I haven't done too much in the hobby. I have upgraded my army storage to a display case and a few details here and there. Well, just yesterday I started three new lootaz for my Deff Towin' crew. The idea came when I found the figures. all three are old fantasy arrow orcs. I thought they would look good reloading some dakka so I set to work making the gunz. I really like how the guns turned out, but they look more like flashgit guns to me. Anyhow, that makes seven lootaz with deffgunz and plenty of meks to fill out the unit.
I hope I don't set off too many alarms trying to bring this old thread back from the dead, and thanks for reading.

Thanks fellas. It'll be slow going but I am starting to pick up plastic again. I've finished the nob for the Deff Towin' shoot boyz... really all he needed was some dacha so:
Now the Deff Towin' crew is done. They just need to finish "their" wheelz.
Speaking of wheels... working on the gunz is giving me a test for very small pieces of plastic again, so mopeds- I don't want to jinx it.

Thanks Gits. That whole unit is old metal models... actually the entire staff for Deff Towin' is old models from the 90's. I'll have to get a pic up this weekend. Quite a few have new arms tho.

Yep, always keen to see old-skool based orks.
And keen to hear your taste for plastic has been re-invigorated and the mobile kroot are back on your mind

I've fixed up the loota gun that was bothering me. I like the new version much better. Here's how he looks now:
Here's what his gun use to look like:
Changed the barrels in a major way and thickened up the the middle bit a little.
I'll get a pic of the whole towin krumpany this weekend.

I slammed out a couple of bikes for the kroot a couple days ago. The pics aren't great, but the rides are still rather WIP. I did want to post the progress I've made tho, to prove I am really working on the unit.
This one still needs a seat, which will over the left wheel, level with the gas tank. The candle bars will come out where that baltac on top is.
This one needs handlebars and a few other details/structural components.
The plan is to greenstuff pants for the kroot so I don't have to pin their legs. Also GSing some tread on the wheels that need it. I think I need to go bits shopping again

I do love me some old school orks. I think the deff guns on the pervious page were a bit too large though, but the one above is perfect.

Hi again. Sorry for the absence/threadmancy habits that I have now. Over this past summer I I had some time to work on Da Chapta "codex". Really it's been since all the work formations have come out. They made it much easier to put the krumpaneez together. Most krumpaneez consist of two formations, but some may have more or less. I don't have all da krumpaneez locked in. The first three and the tenth were easy.
The small formations with just HQs and Nobz are the Chapta Mastaz, while Da Bully Boyz and Badrukk's Flashgitz make up the 1st Krumpany (filling in for Deathwing and Sternguard). There are more, but I'll put together a more formal post to go through the whole chapta.
I also had time to finish constructing my second 1:1 scale kustom blasta. Still have to paint it tho...
I also found a "Bratz" plane on the street, so after I finish the moped kroot I'll be starting an airfield in conjunction with the warcoptaz I've been working on.
Hope you like the dakka, see you next time.

That's really coming along well TGG. Really like the fact that the gun "breaks" so the cylinder can be loaded.

It's been a while since I've posted or worked on my orks at all, tho I did indulge in a box of Meganobz over the holidays. I finally got around to playing with the kit when I realized I had a few Termis from AoBR, so I pulled those out too and made a total of 7 MANZ.
So I have 2 units of Meganobz, the MANZ (I didn't want to mod them too much as it seemed like a lot of work, for getting back into things)
and the Termi-Nobz
Still need to cobble together a gun for the last one.
I also modeled an InquisitOrk that can be a fourth Termi-Nob or a Warboss depending on the game. I also made a ServitOrk Skull for him that I haven't attached yet.
I used a smoke launcher for most of the bits on the skull, the bit on the left side of the skull is meant to hold FNP meds for when he's a warboss.
The backstory is that he was inducted to a rogue xenos inquisitor's team. When that inquisitor died (under questionable circumstances) the ork took his armour to a mek and made it work. The InquisitOrk used his access to the inquisitor's inventory to gather as many other suits of armour and other supplies as he could before the inquisition cut him off.
As for my last post, I didn't get that blasta painted before Halloween so I used my older dakka. Here's what it looked like:
Sorry I've been gone so long. Life being what it is and all. Thanks for reading.

I've started work on a morkanaut that heavily takes after Proiteus' awesome Red Gobbo Mecha. The inspiration is the idea of the hero mecha, like Big-O or Scopedog. Which has a lot of overlap with the Freeblade Knights. There's the pilot and a bunch of well trained grots. I might try to fit a men on there too.
At any rate, I have been thinking about substitutes for the legs. I know of the gorkanaut legs and the imperial knight legs, but are there any other options that stand out?
Thanks for reading. I'll get pics of the morkanaut once it has some limbs.

Thanks for weighing in all the same, Gitsplitta. Just found this thread. Think I'll find my legs here... should have thought of that my self, to tell you the truth... just didn't edit: Just had a fun idea for a unit of kommandos: Teenaged Mutant Ninja Orks, with the nob being played by a skaven Splinter.
