Well back and thanks Vik. No meaning to it really, just a left over icon on a stick in some rock.
I think I can safely say I've gotten the hang of taking these larger pictures. Been posting the full sized ones lately and letting the forum itself resize them rather than the gallery.
Down to four more of these now.
Also signed up a while ago to this global campaign here. Which meant I needed to get a few things sorted for it, mostly just finally naming the army and as that Masque could lead it in some games it needed a name as well. So after brainstorming it a bit over steam finally settled on a few things; sirens and I wanted the word host or horde in there somewhere.
Bit more screwing around the the name became The Sirenic Warhost.
Managed to get those things into it, plus warhost is generally used for Eldar forces more. As a Slaanesh Daemon army it sort of subtly mocks them.
Usually led by Iluni, the elegant huntress.
And (after finding a name generator ) sometimes led by Lukuh, Siren of Slaanesh. For lower point games where I wouldn't want a KoS running about.
Up until now all my purple and pink have been simply the two on the left. With a bit of white to mix in or a Leviathan Purple wash.
But, today I got the three on the right. Wanted a darker pink for another side project I've been meaning to kick off for a while but never got around to yet. For the leaves I messed around with these new colours. Well except Screamer Pink, I haven't used that yet. But, for the leaves I started with Pink Horror then sort of highlighted with Emperor's Children then I think I washed it with LP before highlighting with Squid Pink. At first I got the three because I couldn't remember the one I was after out of PH and EC, then got SP because it looked interesting. When I put EC next to the Squid Pink I was a little disappointed because I figured they were the same colour which would mean that I'd probably never end up using the EC. However luckily EC is a sort of darker version of Squid Pink; useful as it's easier to mix a lighter pink than a darker one.
now that you mention it the leaves look very good... they would probably have escaped me on the genrally good painted mini...they are a nice twist for that kind of mini tho^^
and it is kinda funny that the paints got a picture almost the double of the size of the mini^^
d´oh...:facepalm... ok...hmmm.... those swirls on the shoulders and the head by the way would have been nice with some glowy effect too... not to make you too much uncomfortable with your work
One thing that has got my interest lately with the Horrors is their upgrade character the Changeling. Its ability fits in remarkably well with Slaanesh daemons when you read it. Pretty much if an enemy within 24" shoots at it you can make them take a leadership test; they pass and nothing happens, but if they fail I can make that unit shoot at their friends as long as I can see them with the Changeling's unit. If I get to adding that in, I suppose I'll have to do glowing swirls and such. Has to be fancy.
Easy way is to just get this and paint it up like them.
But, still finding out if it's worth using, it's only something like a 5 point upgrade though.
well... if the points are not that steep a cost and the mini looks like this... where is the doubt? go for it... and i agree that Changeling idea fits the army theme very well...a treacherous lil unit
Somewhat wish I could buy the ability for some other units; even at something like 15-20ish points. It doesn't look like it'll work often, but when it works it sounds like a lot of fun.
Experimenting with the new pinks aka I have no idea what I'm doing.
Huge picture for this update.
Same as normal really with the grey and Liche Purple set up, but threw in some Screamer Pink around the place to mix it up. Never even seen it dry before this. Got lucky and it turns out to be the dark pink colour I was looking for when I got those three paints. I already have them with slight variations in skin tone for the Daemonettes, going to be fun to have that with their hair and clothes as well. Uniform, but at the same time not quite.
I also really like how it looks next to the purple so far. Perhaps in the future some Daemonettes need to have streaks in their hair.
Well not a drop of the usual pink has touched this yet. I think though in future for the claws and such I'll make the purple fade into Screamer Pink like it was in the previous picture a bit.
I've worked through all of them now. I suppose it'll be ready for its glaze soon, which of course will help fix up the "skirt" later.
I'm not sure this one will end up blending in that well with the others unfortunately. Should have kept going with it as normal instead of trying to use every colour at once perhaps.
In a good way hopefully. It's somewhat normal to have paints you never use, for me it's yellow. It just sits around doing nothing, orange would as well if I didn't use it for squad markings.
Worked on it a bit more and starting to get somewhere I like with it now. Leaves and skull is just based at this point.
Anyway I need to hurry up and get this done so I can get started on my entry for nerdfest09's competition. My entry was primed a while back. But, never got around to painting it. Sort of lucky that way. It's got gems and rivets, but nowhere I can see to add any OSL. Perhaps the eyes, but it'd probably be better off with the Seeker eye treatment instead.
Well started work on my entry to Nerdfest09's GBT comp, going to put WIP shots there occasionally as well. But, more here so I don't spam the thread there too much.
Base colours down so far. Going to try to take my time with this one and try to make it better or at least as good as Lukuh came out.
The only thing I don't have planned for this yet is OSL. Going to do some rune work on the loincloth as sort of a boarder on it. Looks sort of rough as usual at this point.
Hmm, I suppose I could and use it to show Transfixing Gaze at times. Or if I end up using it as a generic herald the laser eye attack, that's if it can get it. Can't remember at the moment.
Looked over at the cloth a fair bit and the way it's bunched I think I may leave the runes off of it as I think it'll just ruin the shading in the end. Now, however, I'm looking to put them somewhere as a tattoo or something I guess. The claws perhaps. Also, I figure I can make them those glowing runes as well. Also noticed the left arm got some pink it shouldn't have. -.-
I've got my eye on U! ... or should that be, i've not got my eye on nOt_u ... o.k now i'm confusing myself....... anyhow! looking good so far! you have a real knack for that soft drybrushing, makes it look very feminine and blended, i'll be keen to see what sort of difference there is between this one and your normal ones you do! I tell ya, it's exciting times in dakka land!
Well should be balanced out a bit more now, also put down the base for the gold/bronze. I haven't the room to get that antiquated gold look easy, which is why it tends to not be on infantry. But, the work is more or less the same.
It's at the fun stage of the skin where it's sort of a see-saw. Changes seem to have to be subtle at this point or not happen. Too strong and it can easily fall back to a previous step. -.-
Now the trick is figuring out why the silver I painted on the eye isn't actually there at all. Must have dried on the brush while I was trying or something.
Was thinking of skipping the glowing eyes because I figured it would mask the highlights on the face.
Worked on the eye a little. Think it's about there.
Photo could be better.
For the actual entry picture, I'm thinking of probably getting detail shots of it to a pure white background like these WIPs put around a more "dramatic shot".
Something like either of these:
For some reason, when you mentioned glowing runes, I thought about this. Not sure why, or if you've played any of the Borderlands games before.
In any case, it's interesting to see what subtle changes you've made to your daemonettes.
Well a little, when I fixed the eyes I put gloss on them and the eyes to see if it'd work out. Other than that everything is more or less the same it was before.
The runes, I'm not sure but I suppose I'm up to that part now. I've not played any of the Borderlands series yet though.
Less pictures of the model itself and more planning the runes for this update.
Been messing around with different styles. What it says isn't so important at the moment I guess, just how it looks.
The first is the normal that I've been using, the second is the runes used in Dead Space and the third is apparently Cthulhu based.
I'd say to use the Cthulu based one. I think part of the appeal of Chaos Daemon writing and spells and whatnot is that it's not something for mortals to understand. Those who do understand go mad or convert to Chaos themselves. (Hands over two cents).
I knew they felt familiar somehow (for some reason we have a bunch of stones with them), but the friend who linked them said they were Cthulhu so went with it. A few of them even match.
Well finally done. First up a more dramatic or whatever shot. Auto adjusted to get the same effect as before.
And the actual image I'm going to submit, not adjusted as it messes with the blending and such on the 360 view on the bottom of it. Sort of gives a nice contrast between the differences of the two.
Finally got a game in and have a battle report in the format for the campaign. It does mean it's a bit less in depth as it focuses on highlights rather than the whole thing. I also found out when I got there that I forgot to bring along Lukuh so I used an armless Dark Eldar stomping on an Ork as a stand in.
Daemons (me) vs Dark Eldar 1500 points
Planet: Hera System: Dagon
Turn 1
Daemons
The secondary wave comes in instead... Flamers deepstrike in aiming for a group of bunched up Raiders, they scatter into them and are delayed. Daemonettes land perfectly on the center objective.
Dark Eldar
Raiders zoom out around a corner and open fire on the Daemonettes. Most shots miss or fail to wound, but two Daemonettes die.
Turn 2
Daemons
Everything else besides the Fiends come in, basically all in the Dark Eldar deployment zone. Two units of Flamers land on target between Raiders and Reavers. One Flamer unit kills a full Reaver unit and one of the other squad of three, gaining first blood. The other shoots through the trio of Raiders, but doesn't destroy them. Horrors miss with bolt, but manage to destroy the back Raider.
Dark Eldar
Charge the Flamers and Daemonettes. Flamers tie combat. Raider zooms off to Chariot and fails to hit it or even scratch it.
Turn 3
Daemons
Iluni walks further towards the combat growing in the center. Daemonettes charge Raider and get 5 explode results and an Imobilise. Chariot charges the Raider and rips it apart.
Dark Eldar
Shoot at Iluni and take her down to a single wound.
Turn 4
Daemons
Iluni joins the combat and challenges them, but not before killing a member of the squad just by charging in. The challenge is accepted and the Hekatrix is ripped apart before they can raise their weapon.
Dark Eldar
Incubi charge Horrors losing one to overwatch, tied combat.
Turn 5
Daemons
The Horrors mostly die out in the Incubi combat. Iluni challenges the second Wych unit in the combat and does the same to their Hekatrix, the Daemonettes finishing off one of the Wych squads.
Dark Eldar
Incubi finish off the Horrors.
Turn 6
Daemons
Iluni cuts down the rest of the Wyches and dives into a ruin. The Chariot smashes into the Incubi, wiping all of them out except the Klaivex who fights but loses to the rider. Fiends burst through the floor of a ruin charging the two remaining Reavers on an objective and quickly tear them apart.
Dark Eldar
Warriors open fire on the horde of Daemonettes massing in the courtyard in front of them, all that remained of the combat with their Wyches.
congratz to your win! and congratz to your fine mini...the auto adjusted tho looks better in my view... it really pops out of my monitor for real... almost looks as if able to be touched!
But, with the 360 view at the bottom it pops out and that goes grainy sadly. It's also pretty much exactly how it looks in person, I really need to learn how to take better pics straight off.
Wonder if they'll let me change the submitted picture, I suppose I could take the fixed one and just put it in place.
Not quite the cultists I was planning, and still sort of are planning, but my brother got Dark Vengeance and I figured may as well cobble together the ranged cultists and see what I could dig up from the random bits around. Turns out it was an easy 10 more.
These will probably end up in the misc section, some of them are alright but not a fan of most of them.
But, the scouts got picked up on sprue at a yard sale for about $2 and I think we got the guard bits and somewhat a basalisk for free more or less. Most are horribly cobbled together from catachan and marine bits, but I only used what I could salvage for these.
I'm still unsure on them as I had planned to make cultists myself based on the Glade guard. Plenty of lasguns around here for them easily.
Though I could just keep the bows on them, I'm still pretty much just kicking the idea around. I'm not even sure if I'll start them yet.
This lot will probably go back to him then with maybe a couple exceptions. May just paint up Macharius properly first, he can at least see play in the SoB possibly. In fact already talked about it with him and he's fine with it (of course), but he's thinking of making his marines Dragon Warriors. So I guess you could think of the cultists here I don't want as sort of a comission.
Got my work cut out a bit, this is what they look like.
The picture sort of sucks, but they're red with black trim. On the red is little scales. I'll do this on the armour panels, but for the average cultist they wouldn't be as fancy.

The bitz box extravaganza is always fun Though I think your "cobbled" cultists could use some more chaos-i-fying. On another note, who is the guy back row, a bit to the right with a sweet mustache? I need that head for my Vostroyans! Where does it come from? Looks Empirey.
Possibly, though more likely if I were to have some I'd make some different cultists a bit later instead. Sort of on the fence about taking any with the Daemons. Out of those I'm keeping the robed guys and Macharius. First thing they bring to mind is Mechanicus. Wishful thinking, but it'd be nice if the eventual cultist box had the parts to make a decent amount of those guys.
And yep it's Macharius, he was surprisingly amongst some IG bits we ended up with, well all except his bolt pistol arm so had to replace both or one would look out of place. The arms are also from the handgunner box (easy to tell when I've only ever brought one Empire box before I noticed how horrid most of the models looked and ended up not getting more ).
IMO there's loads of great conversions that have been wasted on lesser models... Not that these look bad, but had these conversions been done on models that already looked great in the first place, they would have been even better... Oh well. At least you've got some good cultists now, anyway.

I think you are pretty much required to add some sort of helpful direction or idea following criticisms like this, instead of saying "I think this could be really good, but you've gone and botched it up". If I was n0t_u, I'd probably feel a mix of discouragement and confusion, which is pretty much the exact opposite of why people make PMblogs for their projects. It isn't so hard to say "This is the part I like. This is the part I don't like, what about this other idea" Let's take the CC up a notch, shall we?
It's fine, I know the tone that was there anyway. Besides, I already said I'm not keeping these guys. Just painting them.
If it comes to the time I do start my own cultists, I'd probably have them so they'd fit in a bit more with my Daemons. Which is why I seem to keep looking to the Wood Elves time and time again. Oh, and so it seems I actually have some sort of update I finally got some more green stuff. Letting my ideas stew around for a bit and I think I'll get back to the flamers shortly. Throw together some more concept as I work on Macharius after this horror then try to pump them out at a reasonable pace.
Edit: Also I apologise if I seem ungrateful Rawson, that wasn't the intention.

Hey, if you're fine, I'm fine I would just hate to get a comment like that on one of my blogs, so I thought I'd say something. And there is certainly no need to apologize
Sorry, I'll try again. The part I like is the conversion. The part I like less is that such conversions were done on meatshields, when they could have been done on, say, daemonettes, or sisters of battle, where they would have stood out even more because each one is important enough to be a model in its own right rather than simply a rabble... I mean, it's a very good-looking rabble, but it could have been a very good-looking squad, or something...
I'll shut up and go away now, rather than continuing to try and say good things and failing each time...
You have to remember, not all of us have gaming first and foremost on our minds. Some of us don't even game, we just enjoy the conversion and hobby work.
That's true, though even in the fluff they're expendable, at times they're even more expendable than guard!
But still, cool conversions, whatever it was that was converted.
That's what's got me looking at them in the first place. Something to take so they can get shot at instead. Just have to figure if they're expendable enough to even be worth it.
There's a couple of Catachan and Scouts in there somewhere. Macharius has been pulled from the group, may have mentioned already.

Sorry, Gray. Maybe my comment was a bit harsh, especially since n0t_u didn't have a problem with it. Truce?

Sure, truce. Although I probably should think a little more before posting at times...
I liked the glade hooded heads. I made a few cultist with them, but now I see they are not playable, because they don't list las guns as an option (come on! as a Yanky I just cant wrap my head around the idea that cultist wouldn't be able to get there hands on contemporary or decommissioned military arms. Las guns have been manufactured for over 10,000 years!). You can now only equip the champion with shot guns, and all cultist must have autoguns or autopistols. Before this new codex you could use the Vrax books lists which allowed the renegades to have a mixture of weapons, but their leadership was at random. I'm hoping that they will release a cultist line soon. If I ever built a chaos army again I would like to be allied cultist with traitor guard. A new cultist would allow for great conversion for Necromunda, chaos, rouge traders and planetary defense forces easily, but of course the sky is the limit if you have an imagination, GS, and a jewelers saw.
Will do. And MS, just use them anyway. Their weapons are just S3 AP- so really they could be whatever they seem to get their hands on and go with it. I might get lazy with the WE ones if I do get to them and give them bows.
Well getting there. The glint in the mouth is more or less a reflection from the ink in there, probably do the tongue pink or something but still need to do the leaves as well.
Thanks Just need to get the base done I think. Did the tongue quickly and like how it comes out. Also put gloss varnish on the eyes and in the mouth.
And one of the seldom pictures of a supply drop. Leftover from some really old school project, had dust on it and everything. It even has modelling in its name. Along with some more greenstuff as I basically went through that much on everything thus far. The cheaper clay I figure is probably like plasticine, which means it can have use as practice and will become more stiff the cooler it is. Hence if I end up with something I like the look of, I can probably add the greenstuff as a shell and hold it. I think it should work as a filler clay anyway. Plus I can brag about them being filled with rainbows...
filled with rainbows....LMAO.... love filled deamonettes!!!! brilliant!
i dunno... the modeling clay will be rather squishy still... for filler material... if you had gone for milliput rather than GS i think this could work more secure....hmmm... but it will be interesting if i am totally in the wrong
Thanks and I like that shot as well, that's why it replaced all the horror pictures in the title post.
Now as a shock perhaps, this guy slowly strolls into the thread and with him maybe the SoB for a little bit. Have tanks to finish off after all, but shouldn't be buying anything more for them until they finally get updated. So there will still be Daemons, this is just the main army I had to put off for them...
He'll count as Jacobus or something, but likely he'll end up more for painting as I'd rather a living saint... Well there's one thing to buy for them still then.
Yeah, the only arms I seemed to find with that were left and had a gun. So figured he can be a little fancy this way. Might have been one with a sword or something, but he already has two on him now.
Also for some reason my camera reset its settings so I messed around with them a little. Auto adjusted, but it actually comes out a little closer to how it is in person.
argh... if you didn´t happen to live on the other side of the globe i could have ferried you to get covered in fitting arms!!! well we´ll have to make do with what we have...
Trying to get the armour sort of goldish, but screwing around with it too much. So much going into it and it's changes are only subtle at best. Even the highlights I gave it, they're more visible in the picture than in person. But, I think they work well.
Face I worked around with a little more when I fixed the eye up, probably leave it as it is or slightly tone the highlights back. But, I think it'd be best to just get to a point and leave it.
to be blunt as a dull knife... this is the very fist mini of yours i am not sold of... honestly... your daemonetts all caught me line hook and sinker... your SOB brilliant femmes with guns... your scratchbuilds...awesome ideas with perfect fitting painting executions...
the mecharius... not done yet... the breastplate and the chingards are way too big a blob of goldish space ...there is still too much definition needed... sorry to sound like a bum... but i think you are not through with that one....
Yeh, it's sort of one of the few models I've been unsure of almost the entire way. The bronze/gold has been through so many cycles. But, I think I'll get a lighter gold, give it a finer highlight and then leave it off there.
As for the next project, I'm getting some bases but may post up a teaser for it later today or something. Currently it looks like a pair of plastic allen/hex keys.
That's cool not_u, but the armor looks more brass/copper than gold. May I suggest some fine highlighting with a bright silver? Or perhaps a brown wash?
So somewhat busy so work slowed down a touch, but I figured I may as well show what that sprue is for.
I'm finally getting started on a flying Daemon prince. Of course I did a rough sketch for concept art. The idea was sort of a mix if I'd go with hooves or something then I got an idea; what if they were sort of like the arms and could impale the unfortunate guardsmen that happen to be in the way. With chitin sort of knee pads to cover my likely weakness with sculpting legs. I'm saying likely as I've never done it before. Of course taking elements from the Daemonettes as well. How I will run it though, I have not decided besides the flying. I could run it as Slaanesh and try pavane or something. But, at the same time I can give it stuff like Bolt of Tzeentch and/or Daemonic gaze and have it do stuff like blast holes through storm ravens and then the contents that fall from its wreckage. Seeing how FMC can be considered sort of reliable counters to flyers; something my current army can only stare at and perhaps shake a claw or fist.
Thankfully I already have the wings, which were left over from the conversion to make Iluni. So at least one thing on it will look good.
if you add the spikey pattern of the arms to the legs too i think this concept could pull of quite good... maybe you could add a certain two pointed fork like structure to the limbs too...
Though another thought is to have the arms without spikes like blades. Its a given the knee plates will have to be spike as well, for extra stabby goodness.
hmmm... blades... now that changes somewhat my mind.... hmmm.... if you go all thin blades i wouls skip the spikes completly... the current legs didn´t made me think blades tho... but if that´s what they are supposed to look like then i would stick to that route and be true to one theme... heck... you could do two versions and have one with bladescheme and the other with spikes... also... what about shooty thorns?
Arms would be blades, I'm sort of sold on the legs being like lances I guess. Arms will slash while the legs are more swoop at it and impale; should represent the fact that this thing will be able to rip into a tank still. Shooty thorns is an idea, I was just going to have glowing eyes to represent the shooting ability. There also has to be an eventual second and perhaps third of these; each unique.
It's going to be a challenge though regardless. If I somehow go oversize for the wings, that'll be annoying, but then I could just make those as well.
I could track down some more wings I guess. At the moment though the thighs are curing. And also I'm sort of looking at ways to do the lower legs better. Broke up the frames I had before and kept the thigh as the same one, but considering either using pens or some cheapish chopsticks I've found for the lower legs, plastic of course.
This is the type of pen.
If I use either sort of have it look kind of like its burst out of the leg which then regrew around it a little. To make it look more organic.
Anyway have the basic parts of the legs made, they purposely have a little extra on the knee end (the narrow end) to allow room to cut, pin, and fit in the lower legs properly. Which is what the chopsticks there are for. Probably end up using about a third of the sticks at most, they will be elongated lower legs but not ridiculous.
At some point as well I have to sculpt some more of those Flamers, there's always at least one in the related images when I look at these.
The main challenge now though, would be to figure out how to do the body and armour. Probably have the two separate though they probably don't have to be. By that I mean building the body then putting the armour on it rather than just building the armour as the body.
Well finally figured out a problem I was having which was what to do for the core of the torso.
In the end I came up with a sprue block, positioned to sort of work as they are, still will need to shape it a little. However she'll have armour anyway. I just need to round it out a little and add the filler putty before adding in more detail with a proper skin of GS to hold it together and then finally the armour to finish it off. Also some ideas for what to use for arms there.
Had a bunch of left over warwalker legs, enough for this to have four arms if I wanted. Likely won't because it'd look crowded and I don't really want it to be confused with the KoS too much. Some spike bit I had leftover from the chariot would also make a nice set of horns for it, as well as the various armour plates I have around from things.
For the hands though I have two ideas; as scythes like this:
And legs are one. Did mean to start the GS work on it today, but decided this would be best to take slowly. Plus a scale shot with it in position it should be in on its base sort of shows how tall it is at the moment. May need to shorten the legs, still unsure on that.
Oh and if people were wondering what the Overflag is, it's that black robot that I've been using in the scale shots to show the upper limit I set for the size of this. It also turned out useful in this last picture to hold it in position as I want a sort of hunched forward take off/flying position. Usually it has wings as well, and folds into sort of a plane mode, but I simply took those off as like most Gundam kits its all push fit.
It also sort of looks better without them.
I can't wait to see it finished! The legs look a little long perhaps, but I think they might be Ok once you've filled out the body slightly. It's probably more the proportions than the size, though I can't see particularly well so far from the pictures.
I think the idea for the blades will work well, too.
Yeah, I'm a little unsure of the legs as well. Proportion is where I want it about, but it's just so big at the moment. They're also surprisingly tough to drill into so might just leave them as they are and go for a more forward aerial pose to compensate. It's also sort of outgrown the wings a touch, though sort of like a crane. I will probably have to make new wings though instead of forcing myself to go with these bits I have. Though I could have suitable ones around, just have to check.
I'd build the body first, then armor. If the armor is all the same thickness don't forget you can let it cure halfway then cut out the shapes while they're still flexible and put them on...
also I'd shorten the shins, yeah, so they're only somewhat longer than the thighs.
Well got the initial GS down for the body. Finger prints and some join lines of course, but I intend to build up on this and lightly sand the entire thing before armour is put on. Since it's sort of a big milestone in the project, it gets a 360ish shot.
Still isn't the final pose it will take hopefully as standing like that it looks like it's playing soccer...
Pink blutac to hold it in place of course. Since it was cheaper at the time to get the different coloured sort of rainbow pack than the normal for some strange reason.
It looks great! Perhaps if you were to cut a little off the legs to make it look better proportionally, and that might help with the wings as well, but everything else about it looks great! I can't wait for more GS detail, as well.
Haven't really done any work, so not an update. But I've played Torchlight 2 a little and saw this guy. Figured I may use it later as an idea for newer fiends or perhaps some spawn. I have a ton of wheels leftover from the chariot to use as the glaive. The league would probably like the steampunk in it. The little robot over to the left could probably give you ideas for Rivettos Vik.
Plus there's fun stuff like this boss guy. And this robot I'll get to build later on.
Held back on an update because I wanted to wait to build it up a bit more than just the legs, makes the update more interesting I guess.
Just need to get some sandpaper to smooth it out a bit and then I'll start putting on the armour. So plastic card and likely rivets to come at some point.
Probably because of the lack of a head, I've been looking around for one before committing to sculpting one. Found one that would have worked if it wasn't too small (some Kira figure that came with a Strike model ).
I found my files so was able to get to work quickly on it for a little bit, also raiding some more bits. The arms I really like the look of and if ever I were to build a wraithlord again I'd probably go for this style, completing the armoured cuff though.
The armour isn't much yet, but it was tricky to get it to stay so didn't want to interrupt it while the glue cured so gave it as much time as it wanted. It should more or less come off with the flesh by now. The second image is more in the pose I'm after for this, I may have to make it so the legs sort of, still has the tabard and straps to be done first though, with some plates over it. Then I want to put a few symbols on it and get started on the jewelry. At that point I should probably get the head done. One idea for it I'm kicking around thanks to some of the chariot "horns" (they're more organic spikes) is this.
Not exactly the same and not with the tentacles though, sort of a mix between that and Ji.. Hakumen.
i really like more your work than your actual referrence and research pic
the adding of the DE bitz is a spify thing... makes it really pop now!
as for the torchlight 2 hint.... i´ve played through to the end of the first one... loved it...tho it had lacked a bit of long time motivation if i am asked... but the look and the general graphics was something i was instantly drawn to... and well... i have that game already in my eyes seems i have now more cause to get me this one
Yeah, I already have three characters in it just missing the barbarian. Engineer seems to be the most fun, went with a ranged cannon one that's about building robots. Usually it's the tanky class, but even like this it's pretty tough still.
Huge pic to show of this update on it, managed to get one to show the detail on the armour so far.
The back I changed my mind on a little, at first it was going to be open with straps and thats the way the plastic card fit on it. But, during sculpting I was able to continue it on and fill it out more.
I'm not sure I like how it is on the wings at the moment, but I intend to take the files to it again to smooth it out anyway so I may be able to balance it out then.
And in this one you can see the gaps where I still need to make the wrists. May be tricky but I want to match the elbow's ridged pattern.
And of course, more finger prints to remove... -.-
Well, not much but some filing and an extra detail or two here and there. As well as thinking of how to fit the head.
Added joints in the plates at the sides, need to fix up this side a tiny bit though. But, the joint does go into the plasticard a little anyway so the empty part doesn't matter.
This is it with the model I mentioned a little earlier for the head.
Then by firing up ms paint, and throwing on some music as one does when using ms paint.
Anyway I threw together how it should look seeing how it should all be in scale properly.
Of course only after I put it together I notice I had the horn on a different angle to everything else slightly....
I'm thinking to build up on the hair, though think it won't be made too long. Also thinking about the fringe the head has as it may look better with it perhaps.
But for now I took out the LGS and worked on the armour a little.
I changed my mind on the back so started filling in the mark there, tried something else I like the look of a little more.
The armour seems are also more or less fixed up now, just need to smoothen it and add in the rivets. I'm still wondering if I should try to do a trim on the armour, but may be better off without it.
Well it's changed up a bit now. Finally bothered with the chains, got the head in place, the rivets in, and the weapons on.
The head needs work still of course, but the shoulders and the neck need to be more seamless first. Then the shoulders will come into it before work begins on the head again.
I got the chains to lock in place using super glue, which I probably have to clean up in places.
Being chaos the rivets are sort of also spikes. I imagine them more to be random metal rods shoved into it to hold it together and hurt other stuff at the same time... or something like that.
At the moment it's sitting aside curing; just did the shoulders, the horns, and redid the back since it fell off during it... Should also start working on the base probably. I have two rider Daemonettes which came with the chariot, unsure if I should use those somewhere or save them. Being riders means they'd probably need some sculpting though...
So this project is now just a day over going for a month.
Got the horn crown thing started, think I'll add to it some more. Shoulder armour is about right, could get some rivets maybe. Though it seems in a good spot. Still need to add the gems on then I think it'll be about time to get this thing to stay on a base.
Well got the gems down and the crown sort of fixed up. May need a few finishing touches to get it done, but I think now I just need to get it on a base and it should be ready to paint.
Sort of have the shoulders attached to the torso armour over the back, but I'll look at giving it traps. Probably fix up the crown with a knife or something.
It's hard to tell what it will look like when done... right now it's not perfect, but when painted it could easily become the next... uh...
I'm as bad at analogies as...
The most annoying part of it at the moment has to be trying to get it on the base, it's a bit big.
I have a rock I intend to use which balances it so it won't tip over. I can put a rod down into the rock, but I'm looking at how I could have it sort of "scraping" past the rock so far...
Edit: Back with a picture of the general idea. Brings it inline with the height of the Wraithlord a little, also looms over infantry a bit. I like the rock, so if I end up not using it for this it'll likely be seen again for something else. In all it weights just a tiny bit more than the Daemon itself, enough to stop it tipping at least which will be the biggest challenge.
Well got it to stay put on the rock, obviously like most models this one is picked up by the base which may as well be bolted to the rock. GS holds it in place as well as wire which is bent in place as well under the base to add even more strength.
And a scale shot in order to show how it looms over others with this pose.
Thanks Nice to see that this hadn't slipped into some alternate dimension as well.
Continuing on I'm not quite sure what I'm doing, but I seemed to have somehow reached a pearliscent effect with those purples so trying to go with it because I think it looks cool.
And now for the rare multiple updates in a single day.
The various inperfections in the skin and nicks I guess are going to be played off as scars. This is also part of the "highlighting" blending part for the skin, in between glazes so they stand out a little more at the moment. Hopefully I can fix them up a bit more.
wow... now that´s what we call in the trade some progress!!! for sure!
the wings are atm my favorite part... the current look brings the leathery look to great lenghth... tho i have to say... the pose of the mini... as it is now based is not really that charming for me...
Well surprisingly managed to get a decent bit done, including the eyes which I consider done at the moment.
Highlights look a touch off when tilted back like this since they're not on all edges of the blades. Blades will be washed darker as well and the patterns will be more subtle.
Finished off the runes, highlighted the skulls and completed the gems. Well mostly they still need the gloss varnish before they can be considered truly finished. Next step is to do the rest of the shading with a fine brush and purple wash. Also perhaps coming up with a name for it to add some decorative runes onto it, like the gems on the knees.
First up a zoomed in picture of the face to actually show the work on the skulls.
there is lots of good stuff with this model... but i chime in with the others... feets/legs look weird...and the chest and shouldersection is a bit too much looking like one of a bodybuilder ...which isnt in theme with the more feminin looking head... but the paining is as excellent as usual...
Maybe the feet could be improved by adding the talons from Tyranid Raveners as toes that clench together to form a point? They could be carved with a knife for a drill-bit look too, but the painting is superb, and the concept is good too.
Maybe, but my Tyranid collection goes about as far as a lone gaunt I got to paint up ages ago. Their plastic is pretty hard as well so I guess sharpening them could be a bit annoying later, I do like the rune idea though. Think it'll look better with more glowy runes on them? I am tempted to put them on some of the empty flat spaces as well, or at least some sort of pattern.
Squigsquasher wrote: Also, is that a Figma head you have sacrificed for this model?
Nope some of the no grade 1/100 Gundam Seed models come with a figure of the pilot. I have a Rau around somewhere that I need to repaint or sacrifice. Meant to paint up this Kira, but could never be bothered and this seemed like a better idea for it.
Added in a few more runes, some subtle ones in the gems which were odd to do but I think came out alright. Had to paint them lightly then smudge them before they dried to somehow end up with the effect I was after. Guess I lucked out with that.
The legs also got the same line as the base on them, luckily enough space to fit. But, I'm still unsure of them and think I could do something else or repaint them entirely. Going with more of a glow effect.
Hmm... seems a bit late now that they're painted, but perhaps sharpening the leg-spikes would let people know they're weapons? At the moment they just look like they're going to be used for bludgeoning small birds to death mid-flight...
This will also likely be the last WIP pic of this daemon. Still have to bring the glow carefully onto the flock and catch any bits that need touching up.
After this I still have that Exorcist sitting around, warmachine stuff I've got to fix up, and Kirai unpainted. But then I also only have two flamers, while my list uses six and I want to add more to that as it's a good feeling to have a unit you've built yourself from scratch sitting there on the table. The fiends also need to be swapped out for them. They look fun, but there are situations where I'd rather have something else. So slowly the army goes back to the shooty type I usually play.
Well sort of got out of the mood for this a bit, so that's mostly why there hasn't been any updates for a bit. I had finished the Daemon Prince, just hadn't got around to taking a pic of it until now. Was also going to have a game that fell through, where I found out it doesn't fit in the case with the rest of the army and if it did the wings might have issue so I can't currently take it anywhere.
I also had another name and title for it, but couldn't remember it for the life of me while I sat there at the upload screen so had to make up a new one on the spot. Lifting names from places.
So without any further screwing around; Aier, The Talon.
As for what next, still in a toss up between that Exorcist (yay gap filling...) and making a squad of those Flamers. So whatever it is, it'll be unpainted and have greenstuff everywhere.
Some great work in the blog. I've been following it for a while now, just have never commented. The DP looks awesome and i love the little glyphs that appear on a lot of your stuff, like the summoning circle.
Thanks, and somehow don't see red dwarf around too much. Anyway, not an update, but Daemon codex should hit pretty soon so I'm going to let them sit for a little bit.
But, do I bother shelling out for this bulky hard cover book which likely has recycled art and background padding it out that I don't need to read for the third time.
At the moment the current is fine as it sits with the summoning circle up in the top of the case, but this new one will likely squash some things...
Red Dwarf is on ABC2 at the moment. Wednesday nights i think the add said.
If you do buy the deamon book at least get it from the States or the UK. Do you really want to pay $80 for a book that in all likelyhood will be exactly as you said?
Seems there's a doubles tourney coming up in the area as well in April. Thinking about going for it, but not sure which army yet. I kind of have the time to fix up the Eldar I have as well.
Being a non-gw store I could also likely do some easy conversions to pad out the small amount of Tau I have around the place.
I still got the rest of the parts primed though. I have also been looking at parts to use for the third Exorcist. Probably paint the two at roughly the same time.
Some sane stuff like these.
Plastic is decent and they open in half, the shape would be a very good substitution for the FW Exorcist parts.
Then some less sane stuff like Xbox 360 power ports.
Which this picture I found on Google will give a decent idea of the scale of it once you get it off of the board.
It makes more sense when I explain that we keep/get some broken ones for parts. Then I've already used a heat sink in another project, why not.
This is my favourite part of this thread, watching it transform from an unpainted piece of metal.
I've also built a second objective marker as the doubles tournament requires our team to have five. I'll probably be building a third as well, but have other ideas besides just another banner.
Just turquoise with a bit of a highlight of turquoise mixed with white.
Automatically Appended Next Post: This is also probably as far as I'm going to get with this today. Was going to more or less finish it, but noticed that when my brother went to the local GW he took all the paints I needed for it.
Automatically Appended Next Post: And this will be today's last update. Otherwise I might not have anything for tomorrow.
Auto adjust so the lighting would be better, was kind of hard to get a picture of the face that made it look like it does in person. Since it's painted to be looked slightly down at it kept looking weird with straight on shots.
Devlin miracle and a fine tipped brush make for great eyelashes by the way.
The hair as it is there is just the base of the colour I'm going for. Got a fair bit to go with that still. Then the bronze needs highlighting.
I finished up the SoB and shoved her into her seat.
Need to do the script work and a few things still before thats done.
Also been working on the servitor.
The flesh is kind of exactly the way I wanted it, kind of lucky there. Started with a base of deneb stone followed up by some ogryn flesh wash like most of my flesh, but then also added in a blue wash.
I'm thinking the organ player herself is pretty much done now. Probably one or two things I can catch and fix before I'm done with the tank overall.
The photos and the face still though...
The Servitor is also pretty much done, wasn't much to do with him anyway.
And since I had some spare time since there were some downed power lines, I threw together the turret for the third Exorcist.
Moves pretty easily which is important. The tank itself though I got like this when I bought it from a friend, it'll need to be cleaned up a bit then I'll have to make it more fancy so it's worthy of being an Exorcist and not just a SoB rhino with a missile launcher.
So put some more bronze onto the metal then made myself a verdigris wash using hawk turquoise a bit of water and a tiny bit of dish soap.
Then I applied it like a glaze, gently dabbing off the excess with a tissue. Two coats later it looks like this.
Have a few spots here and there on the white to clean up now.
So fixed up the verdigris by adding in a bunch of white to the mix. Left it to dry and found it in bits in the morning. -.-
Would keep working on it, but the chips on the SoB are annoying and I haven't found her left arm yet. So time to put this project aside again for a bit. I can still have the SoB in the doubles tourney by using that third Exorcist instead, but then it's even easier if I use the Daemons. Kind of tempted to as I like the sound of the new KoS rules.
and i have read in nerdfests thread that if you add dheneb stone to the verdigris mix it gets a nice milky look... i tried it recently on my riveteer springfountain myself...and it loks very good...
No idea, but there is good news. I've gotten a look at the new Daemon rules and a few things have jumped out at me. Now I have just over a month before this tourney, so may just have enough time to get these two projects completed.
The first one is the backup plan. There's a new item for them called the Portalglyph, you put it down and once per turn it can create a completely new unit of your choice of lesser Daemon. Now the choice there is to just use the small blast template, or a marker of the same size. Coincidentally I still happen to have the base that came with the base model I used for Iluni, which being from Malifaux has that nice curved lip. Basically, a smaller summoning circle is the idea here.
The main plan is to get a Soulgrinder built from scratch, before looking at the rules I was toying around with the idea of a mimic based Daemon Prince or something like that.
After looking at the Soulgrinder stuff I decided to wait to see how they'd be with the update. Turns out it's pretty nice at least to me. Good thing I had the parts set aside for a couple of them.
So messing around with the idea a bit more I twisted the concept of a mimic to more fit in with the theme of Slaanesh and 40k.
And ended up with a sort of cute drawing because I couldn't find the usual crayons I use when I want to add in colour.
The cannons out the back are to show the alternate skyfire mode of fire that the harvester cannon has by default. They're generally four barrel guns anyway I think.
