So with the latest photobucket ransom, its looking like I'll have to shift hosts. I've over 11,000 images hosted with photobucket. This might mean that past updates may go dark, looking at my options.
3000pts 7th edition 40k game. An00bis's Tau empire vs my Deathwatch.
5 objectives, corner deployment.
The center objective was vital and worth 6vp instead of 3vp.
An00bis took some count as allies, the alien "shentari" used scout rules and I sadly killed their leader with a very accurate full spread from my whirlwind scorpius before I could get a picture of it. I got to try out my knight warden.
The main objective was a bomb, the tau wanted to disarm and disable it, the deathwatch want what any good deathwatch do, exterminatus!
In opposing corners from our deployments we both placed some thematic objectives. An00bis placed a wounded crisis suit and I placed a wounded deathwatch marine. As for the objectives in our deployment zones, an00bis placed his awesome tau command console and in my zone I placed a forgeworld generator.
Also played around with some canned fog for some of the shots.
Tau won, held all 4 corner objectives and had linebreaker for a total of 13vp, deathwatch held the center and got first blood for 7vp
We agreed to play a fixed 5 turns.
The highlight for me was when a lucky snapshot from the multi-melta on the land raider took down the barracuda. I had scrambled before the game to get that very weapon painted and it paid off. The dice gods and the paint gods occasionally do lunch

Thanks Jeff, should have another one before the weekend

Inevitable_Faith wrote: Great photos once again dude. That Night lords banner carrier is a great conversion too.
Yeah skimask's banner dude is legit terrifying, aos models are good for somethin
2500pts skimask mohawk's Raven Guard vs an00bis's Tau Empire. This was a truly awesome game to watch, definitely went very differently than both parties thought it would. Batrep's in the oven.
Some killer work here, man.
You are making this more than a hobby, seriously, this is art.
Elevating.
Seriously leveling up the entire enterprise.
Let me fill your pipe, man.
This is some serious greatness.
Thank you.

Thanks my good sir, your kind words sustain my being
ps: I Should have a new for lcbr up really soon, there's a very exciting reason for the delay in uploads
So many amazing shots in this thread. Amazing what some painted armies, even just a tabletop standard, can mesh together to really bring the narrative to life.

All you need is some captions and some call-outs and you have a book here.
Have you thought of hiring out your camera to do portfolios for collectors?
Say, "Send me your army, I will use it in a battle and take photos, and stage portraits of your characters and send the results, maybe even arrange a hard-copy coffee-table book sort of thing."?
Definitely a high-end niche but damage, if anyone can do it you can do it man.
You are awfully good with a camera.

Not sure what kinda demand there would be but I could probably make a book. With the hosting going dead on new years there may be some incentive for nostalgia
Logistics are the main problem for shooting collections, and as you said it's a niche. Locally it's not too bad but if the owner can't be present for the shoot I'd be so afraid to damage a model myself or have models get damaged during shipping.
I've contemplated selling prints, but again to solve the logistics it's likely not viable without a decent demand. The third party drop ship route would likely solve the logistics but I can't see demand being high if it's like 80$ s print.
Thanks for the kind words jeff, I swear I'll have a new lcbr up soon
Skimask Mohawk's mechanicum taghmata vs an00bis's Alpha Legion. 3500 points of 30k age of darkness horus heresy goodness. Pushin that foc to the extreme. Batrep ain't even in the oven this time, it's fresh and cooling on the youtubes. If you're into that sorta thing https://youtu.be/Rmla-OS2pnU
Again used the a7r2, the lens isn't really to my taste but its a cheap sony lens. Still stoked with how a lot of these came out. Workin on a little somethin extra to toss up on the lcbr channel. Stay tuned sports fans
Skimask Mohawk wrote: So brighter models you wouldn't really be able to add too much light as they'd over expose?
Yeah but on the upside you might have more latitude if it's just a bright model on its own, you can probably under expose it a a bit and still see a lot.

2500pts Mechanicum with Iron Warrors Allies vs Daemons
Got a chance to see the new 30k daemons first hand. Honestly think it's a really cool addition the game. Long and short of it is they feel right and "fluffy". 3 portals get placed, in this case we used the oop storm of magic vortex templates. Daemons don't really deploy like normal 30k armies, they poor forth from the warp.
We usually play with a house rule called "fear the flanks" which allows units entering from normal reserve or outflank to assault. The new daemon sorta threw us a curveball on that front. We discussed it and agreed that for the first two game turns, daemons arriving from reserve via the warp would not be allowed to assault, However, to keep things as fair as possible, daemons arriving from turn 3 onward would be allowed to assault the turn they arrive.
Batrep is in the oven and should be up very soon, In the meantime enjoy these pics.
Camera: A7R2
Lens: Sigma 16mm f/1.4 dc (cropped to aps-c 1.5x crop factor) 24mm equiv
Really stoked on this board, went for a frontier rustic look. Finally got to use the workshop and some of the junk piles.
Anyway, batrep is in the oven
Shot these on the S100, basically the namesake of the blog, man I forgot how much of a pleasure it was to shoot with. So tiny, way easier to get planar and right down into the action. I've been shooting the game stills on the sony A7R2 for the last little while and although it takes amazing pics, it's very hard to fit anywhere on the board.
Raven Guard vs Death Guard "The Decapitation Strike"
3000pts, both primarchs in play
Camera: Sony A7R2 cropped with Sigma 16mm f/1.4 (24mm equivalent)
It's also the lens used to shoot the battle report so it just makes everything easier to shoot cropped instead of of full frame. The lens is far smaller and lighter than its full frame bigger brother.
Spoiler:
Shot iso 640 for most of it, shuffled between f/4.0 and f/5.6, still pretty shallow depth of field. Even though it's a pretty small lens, the camera is still huge compared to the s100. S100 still seems like the better choice, can get way better variety of shots. But the sigma is really really sharp, the texture on the armour and iconography is crazy. Really nice bokeh too, nicer than the s100's.
A little clip vid inspired by the credit sequences from the mandalorian where they show all the concept art. Got some new terrain done for this one, finally finished the warcry box I got with the temples and statues. Fit pretty well with the "portal".
Battle Report is also live now
All shot on the Sony A7R2 cropped down with the sigma 16mm f1/.4, equiv to a 24mm (1.5x crop)
It's a nightmare to fit anywhere unlike the s100 but it's got a really nice look to it, pretty much all the pics are f/4 to f/5.6
We also test out the first mission of a tournament packet we're working on.
Again all shot on the Sony A7R2 cropped down with the sigma 16mm f1/.4, equiv to a 24mm (1.5x crop)
I love the look of the lens, but I find as much as I like the shallow depth of field but it's not always needed and sometimes makes deciding on where to put critical focus tougher than it needs to be. The biggest problem I'm finding is the cam and lens together are just way too big to fit into a lot of the places I want to take pics on the board so I end up getting the same angles over and over again. The basic idea is the more i can get wide shots from a flat ground level perspective the more immersive it feels, most pics of games tend to be high angle of attack and just high vantage in general, great for establishing the battlefield, I don't mind shots like that but I prefer to be down and sorta in the mix of the battle.
Going to try the canon G7x again soon and see how it looks. It will be easier to get the angles I want with it because its a lot smaller. I may do another video soon outlining my thoughts on the 3 cameras and the overall way I'm trying to document games.
