Part of my next hobby project is taking a look at the Eldar faction, obviously the new jetbike kits make some of the ugliest old models in the game disappear but whilst I have always been in love with the concept of the Aspect Warriors alot of their sculpts feel very dated to me, especially the Warp Spiders. given that I have some spare time on my hand and the inclination to try and make something new and unique looking for this years armies on parade contest I have settled on making a functional aspect host and converting all of the aspects out of existing kits to make more dyanamic and hopefully better looking new versions of older models.
Thus far I have completed my test model Warp Spider:
And started work on my Swooping Hawk!
More to follow as the rest of my components arrive.

Thanks guys, today being payday I've ordered the display board and scenery for my armies on parade entry aswell as the next batch of components for the growing eldar army. With some of the bits I had previously ordered coming in now I've got a touch more of both the Swooping Hawks and Warp Spiders done with components on the way to finish the first 11 of each. I'm also stocking up on bits for my Fire Dragons who will take cues from the dragonskin masks that the 30K Salamanders have to give them a touch more character. Todays WIP is the none too exciting, lots of part finished aspects:
Warp Spiders are awaiting a huge number of DE Shredders to run as their monofilament weaponry, everything is on order but coming from the US/ UK bits sites so postage may take a while there, everyone has legs, torso and head and now three of the models are fully assembled. The basing theme is ruined city with some alien growth and this will become more apparent when painted and the display board is complete.
Swooping Hawks looking far less complete, obviously I can only use the bird wings from the Scourge kits so I get 3 complete swooping hawk torsos per kit, just waiting on the next few to arrive. The guns will be running the FW las weaponry from corsairs and the heads will come from the same conversion kits.

I'd credit the original person who came up with the concept but tbh I saw it whilst browsing a while back and havent been able to find it since. It was by far the best method of creating Warp Spiders I'd seen in a long time so I had to borrow some elements of it. The Swooping hawks are part of my "no bit left behind" policy trying to use as much of the spares from the kits used in the Warp Spiders as possible (so shadow spectre legs).
Current plans are:
WARP SPIDERS:
DE Warrior Legs
Shadow Spectre Torso
DE/Scourge heads trimmed and with hair sculpted
Shredder Arms
SWOOPING HAWKS
Shadow Spectre Legs
Scourge Torso/Wings
Dire Avenger Arms
Corsair Lasblaster
Corsair Head
FIRE DRAGONS
Dire Avenger Legs (dragonscale tabard sculpted)
Dire Avenger Torso
Blaster/Arms
Shadow Spectre Heads (Sculpted dragonscale mask)
Firepike Conversion for Exarch
HOWLING BANSHEES will likely be made from Sisters of Slaughter with arms lent from various Harlequins and DE kits to give them the correct weaponry, though theyre not happening anytime soon
STRIKING SCORPIONS I really want to do but cant find a sufficiently similar armour pattern to use as a base, so any ideas here would be awesome.
SHINING SPEARS
Eldar Jetbike Base
Shadow Spectre Weapon converted to lance
Dire Avenger Head

First batch of Shredder arms for my Warp Spiders arrived (for those keeping track the arms from Australia arrived before the ones from the UK. Giving me 10 completed Warp Spiders and an 11th awaiting arms to make him an Exarch. Pretty happy with these thus far and will be trying out the FW clear airbrush red when painting them!

Thanks guys, not directly related but whilst I wait on my paints order for the Eldar I had to try out the clear red from Forgeworld to see what it went on like. It was a bit of a rollercoaster for me since when I first applied it it looked a dream, all smooth and gradianted red (done over a metal gradient underlayer), then due to the watery consistency went a bit patchy. But with alot of patience and some patching up I'm pretty happy with how it looks.
As modelled by my World Eaters Lord (formerly Moritat)
Still WIP

So that was just pre-highlighted metallics and then the red over the top? Pretty impressive results! Nice conversion too!

Post by: Melcavuk
Yup it was primed white (for no reason, I literally had one minis worth of primer left and it was white).
Painted in gunmetal (vallejo)
highlighted from above with chainmail (vallejo)
Edge highlighted with runefang steel (gw)
Nuln oil in recesses
Sprayed all over with Angron Red Clear (FW)
Touched up
Wet brush while drying to remove red from some edges for battle damage.
Essentially no highlighting has been done on the red whatsoever, it was all done prior to the red being applied.

Thanks guys, I'm aiming to get all things jetbike painted by Thursday since thats my first game with the army, at which point I'll start working on the Aspect paint jobs. This leaves me 4 jetbikes, 3 warlock jetbikes and a farseer on jetbike to paint still.
As promised a better picture of an assembled squad of swooping hawks, significantly larger than the GW standard but alot more dynamic.

Soo.... I got distracted, the eldar are slowly chugging away getting painted but I got distracted by the impulse for Ork conversions, having played a guy with an imperial knight in his ork army that looked entirely too pristine for me I felt it my duty to manufacture something properly Orky to run as a Knight Warden. Presenting!
The Ork Waaagh-den Knight, known by Deff Maw to other Orks, named after the favoured squig of Gork for its immense size
A Feral Ork Morkanaut!
And with the release of Age of Sigmar, I like countless other hobbiest felt the need to convert the awesome chaos sculpts to 40K. And here are what I have so far:
Daemonkin Lord:
Daemonkin Aspiring Champion
Daemonkin Herald:
Tzeentch Sorceror:
And Khorne Terminator:
I'm using the torsos from the bezerkers to make True Scale Khorne Bezerkers, once they're assembled pictures will follow!

Few things are feared more in the bowels of the underhives than the Body Snatchers, more machine than man they stalk the darker passages, lurking in hidden corners out of view. They wait, patiently, silently, unblinking for their prey to pass by alone, and then they spring their attacks, ferretting away the unconcious body before anyone knows what has happened. Some say they have access to the Gene Banks of the hive, stalking individuals that suit their dark masters needs, but such talk is heresy, if the forces of Chaos had access to such sensitive information it would be a violation on the highest of levels, nobody would be safe.

My WIP AoS Giant for my Giant-kin force! Wanted to inject a bit more story and character into the Giants of the setting so I'm working on a Jotunn War Clan, basically a war party of giants who have gained a following of lesser giant-kin in order to pillage and destroy.
“There is a point, where Savagery and Brute force outweigh the need for reason or intellect, when a beast transcends its mortal shell to become a force of nature. The Jotunn are this point, they are the hurricane and the flood, those who hear their roar must secure what they can, seek safer ground and pray they are passed by unscathed. It has been an age since the drums of war were heard from the Mawfang Gate, since Sigmar tamed the beast. And for the sake of mankind I pray it will be another age shall pass without them.”
Amulus Thawn – Celestial Chronicler, The Tome of Beasts
The concept is that Sigmar forged a peace with the Jotunn in times forgotten, that neither would make war on the other as the feud would last until time itself stopped. However with Chaos spilling into the Realm of Beasts the Jotunn do not distinguish between the different creeds of Man-kin, instead their dominance has been challenged within their own realm. To show weakness in the realm of beasts is to invite predators to claim your life. Such a challenge must be answered in force and thus the Jotunn have sounded the drums of war once more.

Thanks yeah I looked at that shoulder alot in the photo and I'm sure its off somehow but I dont think the angle of the photo is too flattering. This should be the first of three giants (Shaman and Trapper being the next two, this one dubbed Bezerker)
Mymearan wrote:Amazing stuff! Followed so jealous of your awesome Aspects, and I love that you're using almost every bit from every kit...
Cheers, I really love the concept of the eldar aspects but found alot of the models to be very... lacking in terms of the modern kits available to other armies.
And now...
More progress on the giant and a look at how he was before painting started. I'd say I'm about halfway through at this project shot!

The reason that it feels a bit off might be the fact that the arms are very muscular while the body is... well.. not so much. Personally I would cover parts of the right (raised) shoulder with some pieces of armor but that's mainly because once my brain picks up something like this it can't really let it go and some coverage might help. With that said, the model is nice as it is!
49729
Post by: Melcavuk
Yeah unfortunately the giant body tends to lean toward the more.. potbellied approach unlike the arms, I may revisit shoulderpads later on but for now am hesitant to ruin the paint job in the process of sculpting over it.
The basing materials have arrived so here is the bezerker roaming through the meadow!
And my WIP Jotunn Ghur Shaman (Counts as Thundertusk)
Jötunn Shaman, noticeably smaller than his bezerker kin. The children of those Jötunn proven to be of weak heritage are cast out into the wild to become prey for greater beasts. Most perish in days but rarely, some years later one will return. These are called the Ghur Shaman, those forged anew by the wild, often mad and quite dangerous but with an affinity for beasts and tribal magics. Those possessed of true magics dispute the Jotunns claim, they say that magic is an intellectual art and the Jotunn simply do not possess the mental faculties to truly wield it. If magic were poetry then the powers that the Ghur Shaman wield is little more than shouting obscenities at the wind.

1 Cyclops
1 Ettin
1 Giant Runt
1 Stone Giant
3 River Trolls

Jotunn War Tyrant
Warscroll: Giant (Added keyword: Hero)
Stone Giant
Warscroll: Stonehorn
Giant Shaman
Warscroll: Thundertusk (ranged attack is his "Magic")

Cyclops
Warscroll: Cygor
Ogre Tyrant of the Skull Throne on Hellbeast
Warscroll: Vampire lord on Zombie Dragon
Ogre Paymaster on Great Plainsbeast
Warscroll: Chaos Warmammoth

Paymaster on Mammoth

3 Mournfangs
Mournfang Cavalry.

Tiny bit of progress for AoP, the answer to the much pondered question "How do you fit a giant through a realm gate"...
Presenting the Mawfang Gate, forged by GorkaMorka in the realm of beasts that his minions might visit destruction untold upon the realms. It is an abomination forged for the remains of many fallen gates, and much like the realm it belongs to the gate hungers. To pass throuh it takes a strength that few except the collosal posses, others... Weaker creatures are consumed by the insaitable appetite of the portal.

This weeks project, I had a spare white valkyrie that I intended to paint up eventually for my Renegades but really never found the motivations, so after staring at it for about an hour on monday decided to throw in some come-the-apocalypse D99 allies to my renegades. The Asgards Aces!
The Renegade Navy "Asgards Aces", comprised of Deserters, Convicts, Thugs, Thieves and Rogue Nations "The Asgard" is a nomadic fleet of vessels. Surviving by piracy and pillaging those worlds on the edge of imperial space. The Aces comprise mostly of veterans from now defunct rogue nations or imperial deserters, riddled with combat drugs and highly unstable but a potent force none the less.
So from Monday I've gone from concept through conversion, assembly and painting and now on Sunday I have about 900 points of Pirates and Marauders good to go!

Busyish day today, my lovely Ta'unar arrived yesterday but since I was out gaming it sat languishing unloved for the whole day, barring a quick wash down to remove any mold release. Fast forwarding to this morning when I eventually managed to drag myself out of bed I have now managed to:
Assemble Ta'Unar
Prime Ta'unar, 3 crisis, 2 remora, 1 y'vahra, 10 path finders
Base colour all the above
Highlight all the above
Given that I've reached a natural stopping point for the night it looks like detailing will have to happen later in the week, but for now here's my days progress picture (all done today barring the old riptide in the back right!)
