Best sport on the planet is about to begin anew...
Pre-season starts this weekend!
BREAKING: Blues sign Steen to a four-year, $23 million contract extension ($5.75 AAV).
— Jeremy Rutherford (@jprutherford) September 23, 2016
w00t! Steen's probably one of the best 2-way forward in the league... but, that definitely signals that the Blues won't be able to resign Kevin Shattenkirk .
I'm off to the United Center tonight to see the Blackhawks open up their regular season. I was bummed when they didn't make it to the Cup finals last year, but man, they needed a rest after their deep Post Season runs...and Cup victories!...of the last 6 or so seasons. I'm looking forward to a rested and healthy Blackhawk team bringing the Waaagh this year!

I understand that Games Workshop has really turned a corner this year, but I think wargaming has been doing pretty well throughout. Certainly saying that it is about to begin anew is a bit exaggerated.

Anyway, Go Nucks!
And those 4 goals are not cheap goals either.
Good for the leafs!
The Blues beat the Blackhawks yesterday!

Blues won their home opener v. the Wilds 3-2.
New guy Yakupov scored his first goal... that dude has some serious wheels.

Anyways, I was absolutely revolted by the officiating in the season opener for Detroit/Tampa last night. Detroit got 2 PP's the whole game, and one of those was a 32 second power play... Hell, the ref's were even putting our guys in the box for Tampa's penalty. At least we were able to enjoy the giant middle finger Vanek gave to Minnesota last night, scoring two goals right off the bat.

I think he's tired from all the Post Season and Stanley Cup action the Hawks have had the past few seasons. It's been 8 years since the dance for you guys right? I think we've won 3 Cups since then. That's okay, the Red Wings look good this year...sitting at the bottom of their division!
#Canucks4Cup2k17 <--- we canucks fans need a cup help us, please.
Anyways, in my state, there are more canucks fans than coyotes fans. Its a bit exciting to see a sea of blue and a patch of red, even when red is the home teams color!

Hossa put in #500 tonight!!! Booyah!!
Chicago has lost as many games as Detroit has so far, just sayin.

With the Blues and Nashville in your Division, that might be a fair bet. Counters Tampa and Florida for us. Lets say one troop choice?

Done. Remember, it's who goes the furthest. In case of a tie...unlikely, but theoretically possible...both of us send a troop choice to a charity raffle effort. It's for charity after all, and therefore, a very good thing.

As a Habs fan living in Bruins territory, I get to be awfully smug about the Canadians beating the Bruins in Boston again - Bruins haven't won at home against the Canadians in almost 5 years.

Didn't the Habs start out hot last season and not make the playoffs?
The Wing's defense looks fast and pretty solid. The Blues shot a fethton, but the Wing's defense did a great job limiting the 2nd/3rd chances.
I was on Washington St when the puck dropped last night. Wasnt in a situation to get some tickets unfortunately. Loved that shootout though. Zetterberg once again sticking it to the Blues.

Yeah... Zetty is a Blues killer.
Wings are looking good dude... think they'll make a run this year in the east?
SemperMortis wrote: That was a good save don't get me wrong, but not the best by far.
Well, there's no objective standard by which one can measure "the best" save.
Miller's save will be included in most future "greatest saves of all time" highlight reels, that's for sure.
I agree, but realistically it wasn't an overly hard save, the hardest part was skating from the bench in time
I would compare this to one of the MANY diving catches in baseball that happen almost every game. For me a truly incredible save are the ones where you think he has literally ZERO Chance of getting it
djones520 wrote: I always love it when it gets compared to other sports. "Well, they do that all the time in baseball." "They hit just as hard in football". Etc...
This gak is all on ice. Nothing is like the other sports.
Well obviously, the point remains the same though. You won't see this in hockey that often because its an EXTREMELY unique situation. Just because its a unique save doesn't make it epic or great. Just unique.
I compared it to baseball because it looks a lot like a diving catch. But beyond that it wasn't that impressive. Miller himself has made better saves then that.
Nice to see Detroit get back into the win territory, even if it was an ugly one like that. Sometimes it's what you need to get the confidence rolling again.
Also like to point out, that it's been a great ride watching Jimmy Howard retake his starting position like a boss. I never got on board the Mrazek train.
It is not very often that I wish harm on a hockey player. It's a rough sport, stuff is going to happen.
Mother fething Emelin though, that donkey-cave needs to sit the next 5 games minimum. He went after 3 players last night, may have ended ones season. Makes me really wish that Kronwall would step back in time 5 years, and deliver a nap to him in the next game we play.

So, WJC is over and the other guys won. That was a heck of a game last night, a full credit goes to the American kids to keep coming back after falling behind by two goals twice.
Poor Dubois. I bet he's sick after flubbing that game winner in the last minutes of the third.

Shoot out is a terrible way to resolve a game.
One of the best games I've seen. Grats USA.
What do you mean "...and the other guys won." Gold medal worthy game from both sides, but just the fortitude and perseverance on Team USA's part to rally back down 2...TWICE! Boo-yah! Parsons stopping all five tiebreaker shots...W-H--A-A-A-A-A-A-T!
Now that it's "official" that the Red Army won't be participating in post season play, yep, what a collapse. Maybe the new arena next year will help spark something, who knows.
I'll keep my eyes out on the forums for anybody doing a charity army project and you can make it right then.
I don't follow hockey but a co-worker does. And he keeps me in the loop for the real important things:
50% off at Papa Johns when the Capitals score 5 or more! This has been a pretty regular thing lately. Its somewhat gakky pizza, but at 50%, with a PJ across from my work, I've been wearing that place out.

Papa Johns at any price... I'm a pizza snob from Chicago, I can't help it. Go Hawks!

This was just a hell of a year for us.
Gordie Howe passes. Mike Illitch passes. Last season in the Joe, and our 25 year streak ends. When it rains, it pours. I also wouldn't be surprised this off season to hear news that Kronwall will retire.
On the bright side, we got some pretty solid performance out of AA and Mantha, two guys that we'll definitely be hitching our rebuild onto.

It's Ok, my Canucks FB feed was "happy" about such poor showings at the end of the year because by getting 2nd worst, we have a better shot at better draft status than the Vegas team.

4 or more and the Caps win. There's a similar deal with the Wizards. A friend of mine is a VP in Papa John's mid Atlantic corporate and he said they lost a lot of money in January... but he also said he was happy because a) local teams were doing well and b) it was *really* good for their drivers. Lots of tips!

Found a charity project, PM incoming with details for you and Zach to sort out. I'm rooting for the Penguins at this point, but the Hawks folding the way they did left me not really giving a feth.
BigWaaagh wrote: Didn't predict it, but I'm glad it was Pittsburgh and not the Preds...I HATE the Preds. I mean, who the hell throws catfish on the ice!
I am an incredibly drunk pens fan who has just opened this thread for the first time. This is my first time touching alcohol since my breakup(see my other thread about breakups) But yeah I dont know what we're talking about in this thread but go pens and as a side note go steelers in the next season! (Ps go pirates but they kinda suck)
I also posted this message in the wrong thread at first
I think the Pens just kinda survived this Cup. Which makes it sweeter somehow.
Feel bad about the disallowed goal, but the Predators had plenty of chances to tie it up, including a 5-on-3 PP, and didn't get it done. And somehow they finished the night without taking a single penalty. At some point you have to make yourself some luck.
And, as hard as it is to believe, 'The Kid' came out of this series looking like more of a douche than he normally does.
So I guess there's that?
By 'douche', you of course mean 'among the very greatest hockey players of all time, despite jealousy so intense from others that it becomes hatred', right?
I'll put this in terms you should understand completely. Crosby = Brady.

Someone had to do it to those scrappy Preds.
Can anyone remember when a Cinderella team won it all? It seems they can make it to the final but run out of steam versus the favored team from the other conference. Preds died in the Final this year. Northstars in 90 or 91. Panthers get there in 95 or 96. Sabres lost to the Stars. As an 8th seed Kings beat the Canucks, but won the Final against the Devils, who weren't that favored. That team was arguably much better than their 8th seed status.
Funny how people point out Mr Slew Foot getting a few love taps to the helmet. Subban tried his Slew footing 25 years ago on Wayne their would of been hell to pay.

Totally agree. It's a totally different NHL now. Sadly, Lucic is the closest thing to a Dave Brown, McSorely, Probert, Boogaard type and he's a rarity. Miss the good ole' days.
Ducks left Manson and Vantenin unprotected. Bet there's a deal in place there to keep them. I'd love to see Manson in a Hawks jersey like his pops years ago.
Not sure why Preds left Neal unprotected. He brings a lot to the table, perfect for an expansion team.
Blues protecting Reaves instead of Perron? Not sure about that one.
