The code this year is the highly original 'SALUTE2017', and please remember you enter it on the 'confirmation' page, which is the last one before payment details. There's a box at the top of the page. (Every code we get people writing it in the comments box, other than making me smile, that does absolutely nothing! ) Also if your order is over £60 then the chosen freebie will be dropped into a lil HF goodie bag, if you order over £120 it'll be a double sized bag and so on!
The code wil be active until Tuesday the 18th of April! We aren't packing any pre-orders after that date, you'll just have to bring your lil scrappy piece of paper with you and we can both struggle to read your writing

I've been looking forward to your annual thread, Ruglud. Though I believe this one has been later than your previous efforts... tut tut!
I've got a feeling this year is going to be a good 'un. Really enjoyed last years (the missus enjoys the fact I go because I suffer from mini fatigue for at least 6 months after! ), though sadly I'll have to be conservative with the funds but I'm hoping you'll keep the thread updated with some nice deals.
Lastly, I can't wait to see what imaginative and utterly monstrous and crazy tables folks will dream up this year... bring it on!
Nevermind, just checked their Facebook page and they're going to reveal it in full later today. By this time last year the mini had already been teased out over a few weeks.
We have now shipped 5,500+ Legendary Nimue boxes to the guys at Salute. They will be put into the free show bags that everyone will get when they first enter Salute.
This model is stunningly detailed and we are very excited to get Legendary Nimue into your hands. Remember if you are at Salute to come over to the Wild West Exodos stand to see the game, studio painted miniatures, and maybe some news on future releases.
* All boxes contain, Model Sprue, Stat Card, Model Base.
Warcradle are putting this year's event model free in the swag bags for attendees.
We will also be at the show, with some new releases and the bulk of the WWX range.
The stand is going to be pretty exciting based on what I have seen, and we should be demoing the current build of the new edition, along with bringing some of the studio minis to show off in the cabinets.
Come say hi and find out what's going on with the future of Wild West Exodus.
Will be there representing the Warhammer, 40k and Other Wargames Loot* Sharing massive, along with Admin A and Admin B.
My Wild West Exodus freebie is already spoken for, but there's a chance Admin A and Admin B will be passing there's on to the deserving. And in true W4OALS (hmm. Acronym is catchier than I thought) spirit, it'll be at Postage Cost - because every deal makes a scalper cry.
*Yes, it did used to be Booty, but wrong'uns kept trying to join, so we changed it to loot.

I don't suppose anyone knows if Modiphius are there with their Trek stuff? Your group didn't exist for the first times they had it at conventions and I really want a Picard!

They're listed as a Trader on the Salute 2017 Trader's list, so looks good
News and updates are trickling out for Salute this year - even the Warlords own updates have been few and far between, hence the delay in my starting this thread (yeah, I know... excuses, excuses...)
Having said that, I've always found the 'Wargame News and Terrain' blog site to be great for scouting out the info, check it out here: http://wargameterrain.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Salute%202017 (note, not my site... but a great resource I often frequent...)
There's been a teaser picture of the free model for this year, but apparently it's already available to see in this months Miniature Wargames magazine which has a free show guide... The miniature in question (I can't find any pictures though) is a 'Russian Revolutionary Figure'

Bring money. All the money. Also I tend to order stuff and pick it up on the day (free postage, and saves spending cash for impulse buys
Don't drive and park at Excel - it'll only tempt you to spend more money as you can make regular trips back to the car parkto deposit your plastic / metal / resin / mdf / other goodies in the boot then return for more !! I always drive to Excel now and have fallen for this
Charax wrote:Bring money. All the money. Also I tend to order stuff and pick it up on the day (free postage, and saves spending cash for impulse buys
Earlier in the week I looked at the website of all the traders / companies attending to work out what I really wanted to buy. I now have a list of company names, stall numbers and items to try and will try to restrict myself to the list rather then buying anything that tempts me even a tiny bit. I suspect I will fail badly.
I am only playing a few games at the moment so main aim is to pick up the con exclusive Walking Dead pack from Mantic, try and have a trial game of Achtung! Cthulhu (perhaps grabbing the 2 player starter if that goes well) and pick up any suitable models for Strange Aeons / Von Unaussprechlichen Kulten. If Knight models were attending I would most likely end up spending too much with them as well.

I was considering driving but in the end have opted for train and DLR. It does mean I am limited to purchasing how ever much I can fit into a backpack and carry with two hands.
Is it best to arrive early or can you arrive just before opening and get in relatively quickly?
No need to arrive early - you get put in a massive snaking queue but it doesn't take long to get through - allot of flk arrive alittle later to allow the queueto clear, goody bags don't run out for quite a while - I'd only arrive early if I wanted to get to a specific stand before the masses... Helps though to preorder (as previously said). I would though make sure to get your ticket(s) online though - you can even do this on the day and is a lot cheaper then paying at the gate...
#Salute2017 - we'll be there! You can get some Micro Art Studio's stuff with a special -20% discount! Order now, collect at Salute!
When placing an order please remember to choose the appropriate options:
shipping method -> "personal pick up" and payment method -> "cash on delivery".
Leaving a comment "SALUTE 2017" on the checkout is a must!
A special -20% discount will be granted when collecting the order.
Please note that You should place the orders no later than on 16th April, so there's enough time to complete them.
Some vendors will take plastic (usually the bigger retail stands, rather than the smaller "traditional" manufacturers), some (such as twilight Miniatures, because a friend of mine asked him) might take Paypal. The problem is getting a reliable mobile phone connection when dozens of people simultaneously try to do so inside a large Faraday cage. I bring plenty of Scottish tenners to confuse the natives.
There are a few cash machines in the atrium of Excel if you run short.
Custom House DLR station is closed this year, although apparently Prince Regent is closer to the end of the venue that Salute will be at anyway.
Cash is more practical at salute because I tend to buy at small vendors and also enables me not to get carried away since once the wallet is empty I know I reached my limits… Dealing with cash at these sort of events works fine since we are not talking about huge sums of money here.
If your adamant with plastic just make sure you have also some money too, just in case.
Time is short believe me, things go fast once you get there so the last thing you want is wait on a vendor queue only to find out they are having card problems when its your time to pay.
theres a really high chance that at least one of the places you want to buy from won't be able to get their card readers to work, and another will only be taking cash
and then you'll find a huge queue at the cash machines
so bring your spending money with you (and leave the CC for extras you aren't really meant to be buying anyway)
BrookM wrote: Cash or creditcard, it's shocking how few vendors at events support regular debit card transactions in the UK.
Small vendors have tight margins and accepting cards cuts in to that or do you want prices to rise? also in exhibition centres you cannot guarantee a good mobile signal so it can be a pain to actually accept cards. I personally have to accept cards on the go and have problems regularly.
Studio Miniatures will be at Salute 2017 in London on Saturday 22nd April. Trade Stand TA17.
Salute Preview
We will be launching twelve new miniatures for our Survivor (Z-Clipz) range, and 26 new miniatures for our Horror Characters range. Below are previews of the new Survivors:
All of the miniatures are 28mm, and are supplied unpainted with 30mm round plastic bases.
Sculpted by Paul Hicks, and painted by Andy Taylor.
Whilst we have been flat out producing our customers Salute releases we have somehow found the time to manufacture our 'breached' wall section for our Castle. So we thought you might like to see some work in progress pictures - we are hoping to have this ready for a Salute release Painted Figures shown loaned to us courtesy of Alan & Michael Perry
Finally the last of our releases for Salute - American style gravestones - there's 44 on a frame - 2 frames in a pack - there are 3 variations of sizes of the gravestones-£6 a pack - ideal maybe with our new railings and gates. The figures shown are for size comparison only (used with permission of Perry Miniatures) Also an update on the railings (this is for you Arthur) we will also be releasing a railings expansion pack (at Salute), this pack will contain just railings - 3 railings per frame and 4 in a pack - approximately 100cm of railings - £10 a pack.
These items can either be collected at Salute 2017 (22nd April) or they can be posted 1st May, anywhere in the world. If for Salute collection, please choose that option at the checkout, and you will not need to pay postage.
If you order various items from the website and include at least one pre order item then your whole order will be held up - if you need the other items earlier please put them through as two separate orders.
On the off chance (tiny chance, but stranger things have happened!) that due to crazy demand or production issues, you order a chunk of things for Salute and some are not available - I will post the remainder for free, worldwide. It is unlikely, but I thought I'd whack that down now!
Perry Miniatures will be releasing their long awaited plastic Anglo-Zulu War British Infantry and there Travel Battle miniature wargame using small scale miniatures on plastic terrain tiles. These are multipart hard plastic 28mm figures which can be used for the Ninth Cape Frontier War, Zulu War and the First Anglo-Boer War. They are also supplied with Home Service helmets so can be used for any potential invasion from France, Germany or even Mars! There are 38 miniatures in the box including 4 casualties, two Heliographs,4 pairs of standards, unit bases and uniform information. If your going to Salute, please don't pre-order, there will be enough there at our stand (TE 14) £20.00

Preparations for Salute 2017 are now in full swing here at the Depot. We are stand TD21 for those who intend finding us on the day. Unfortunately we have had to reduce our stand size from our normal 18' at most shows to 12' at Salute. This has the effect that much of our 4Ground stock will need to be left behind. However, to compensate for this, we are offering an additional 10% discount, on top of the usual 10% discount, on any 4Ground items pre-ordered for collection at Salute before midnight 20th April. This extra discount can be accessed by using coupon code '4GSalute2017' when using our checkout system and it is only available for pre-orders at Salute 2017.
Salute 2017 approaches at pace and with our huge range the best way to make sure you get what you want on the day is to pre-order and we'll have it ready to collect on the stand and for those who do there is the added bonus of a wonderful 10% off across our entire range for orders placed by 14th April 2017.
Now this would seem unfair to those of you unable to attend and we are nothing if not fair to everyone so the offer is open to everyone place mail orders or collection orders. Purchase between now and Midnight on Friday 14th of April and receive a 10% discount by using voucher code
10SAL2017

That would definitely be towards the top of my shopping list as long as the price is sensible.
Here you go - looks like a good price to me
TravelBattle is a complete table top miniatures game in a box. It is intended for gamers who have limited space, or those who are traveling on a long journey or holiday and need a gaming fix! All the playing pieces are made of coloured plastic, and include two 3 dimensional green terrain boards with separate woods, grey buildings and red and blue armies. The size of the miniatures is 8mm. The two terrain boards are designed to be placed together on any edge, giving the potential for 16 different battlefields. The 1" grid marked on the boards excludes the need for rulers to be used in the game. The simple rules system should allow a game to played within an hour. The two armies are generic Napoleonic forces of equal size and composition which make up three brigades for each side. There is a simple painting guide in case you which to enhance your armies and terrain boards. £50.00
Contents:
160 x Infantry 24 x Cavalry 4 x Guns and 12 crew 6 x Brigadiers 2 x 10" 3D Terrain boards 6 x Buildings 4 x Dice 1 x Set of rules
Spectre Miniatures Salute 2017 Update! We have added a free shipping option to 'Collect at Salute 2017'. If you are attending and know there are items you want, we recommend placing an order for collection as we will not be bringing our entire range to the show. Please get in touch with any questions!
We’re happy to take advance orders if you’d like to reserve and items, new or existing. You can either e-mail us and send a list to be paid for on the day (cash or card), or you can use the ‘Collect in Person’ shipping option on the website to place an order without paying any postage charges. Please place any orders by Friday 14th April to give us a chance of processing them.
The 2017 Salute Sticky Page For those who are new to us, what we tend to do is save up a lot of our new products and release them in one big hit at the show, and here is where you’ll find details of them. This post is made ‘sticky’ until the show arrives, which means it sits at the top of our blog front page. We’ll constantly update it between now and April 22nd with more new items as we get photos, so keep coming back and checking regularly.
Although we’ll have everything here available at the show, we’ll stagger the addition of the releases onto the website – that is simply to avoid us being flooded with a huge pile of orders for the new items. We’d rather regulate the flow of new stuff – that way we avoid getting behind on orders, which no-one wants. To help those who aren’t able to make the show, this year we’ve added the intended website release date to each range. CLICK HERE
Jumping on this thread to say that as we're on a titchy 6 foot stand, we can only bring a selection of our products with us and choosing what to bring is alwaysd a tough one. Therefore, help us out by emailing your order for collection to admin@warmill.co.uk, or using our webstore contact form, and we'll give you an additional 5% discount on top of the 15% show discount.

London EXcel Centre 22/04/2017
STAND TJ09
We are again running great offers on our stand saving up to 20% on the day.
One minor change this year is we, and other traders with larger stands, have been asked if we would reduce our stand size to allow space for new and upcoming companies. Therefore our stand is smaller this year, meaning we are unable to bring as much to SALUTE. If you really want something head to our online store and place an order for SALUTE pick up.
Enter the codes bellow to gain great savings;
Spend £75.00 or more and use the code SLW10 to get 10% discount Spend £100.00 or more and use the code SLW15 to get 15% discount Spend £150.00 or more and use the code SLW20 to get 20% discount

Spring Lunacy - Presenting the Empress 28mm U-Boat!
Who doesn't want one of these?
To be quite honest we weren't entirely sure whether this should have gone in out terrain or vehicles stores ... but for now it's in our 28mm World War 2 and Spanish Civil War areas.
What can we say? We've always wanted one of these ourselves (or three ...) and they are actually surprisingly versatile. Straight-up battles (for those with big enough tables), Commando raids, Pulp Adventure - this thing makes a great center-piece to a wide range of games. We are particularly proud of the way it breaks down making it easy to store.
After a bit of debate on our Facebook page we have this up at a special pre-Salute price of £59. This will have to go up a bit soon, but we'll hold it at that for now.
We have almost sold out of our initial run of these already (just via word of mouth in fact) so if you would like one for Salute then we highly recommend pre-ordering. Always a good idea, but in this case probably essential.
Empress Miniatures - doing our best to service your Bond Villain fantasies!
Oh man, I wish that U-Boat was released several years ago when I still played 7TV. Bashing the boche would've been so much fun with one of those as a centrepiece.

As it's Easter, and since Statuesque won't be at Salute next weekend, all orders of £30 and over will have FREE SHIPPING from now until the 24th of April. As usual, orders over £50 will be sent by Signed For or Tracked Mail as appropriate. Have a good one!
Automatically Appended Next Post:
Spiral Arm Studios / Maelstrom's Edge Only 5 days until Salute 2017. We'll be showing off a bunch of new models, books and other things, so stay tuned this week for some sneak previews! You'll be able to find us on Saturday at stand TD03.
Come and see the launch of our brand-new range at this year's Salute. The first packs will be unveiled at the show on the 22nd of April. The range will then be made available on our website the following week. So to get a first look at these miniatures and have a chat, visit our stand TL21
Once again, PP is at Salute. PP is one of the longest-serving traders on the show circuit (33 years, U.K., Europe and U.S.A.). Once again, we are bringing a trade stand and game to this fine show. The stand will have lots of our ranges on it, along with our rule selection. Some ranges will not be with us (Wild West, ancients, fantasy) So do ask if you want packs from those ranges. We have about 2,000 products in total.
Pre-orders through the PP website get a 10% discount too, as a 'thank you' for making our lives easier. The game this year will be Vietnam. The game has been well received so far (including "best Vietnam game I have played" and other plaudits). Participation, of course. Come and play a turn or two (we don't play full games as most gamers just want a "35-minute go" and a full game could take up to two hours (too much time out of the show duration). Historicon will be full games of course; nine of them!
Figurewise, there should be some more new WWII Russians.
So, get your orders in please and do come and play Vietnam.
Of course we will be there as usual and we even have a few new releases shown below! We'll also have all the new Tombstone kickstarter models on display for you to view in person!
Salute 2017 limited model (limited to 90 on the day) £6.00
Spoiler:
Halfling team £25 (11 models). We will also have a Halfling squad option with 2 Treemen + 14 halflings for £40.
Can see those dwarf plastics being popular, looks like a very nice kit.
And absolutely love the Predator! Although, considering all of the conundrums that Prodos supposedly had with Fox, I'm amazed that they permitted him to be clothed in period dress with a flintlocke pistol!
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at Salute again on Saturday! Just 5 days to go - we have a bunch of new models (including new plastics) to show off, new printed books and more.
So if you spot someone quite tall, very short grey hair but by no means balding, looking grumpy in the crowd - that's probably me. Oh, and I have a beard.
If anyone has their eye on any of the exclusives, but can't make it themselves - check out the link in my sig, join the group and give us a shout - we can't make promises but we will do our best!
I'll be there with my two kids and my gaming buddy (who also happened to be best man at my wedding....)
And here we were back in 2015 at the Warlords stand... I'm the slightly balding chap in the middle in the black t-shirt. my kids are hidden in front of me and my daughters friend was there as well (purple top). My 'best man' is bottom left . Feel free to say hello if you see us, one year we should arrange a Dakka Dakka meet and greet (over at the MEdge stand....)
Back to regular news... Another pre-order offer...

Dark sphere salute table. Rogue one. Postby nice-vans » Sat Apr 15, 2017 11:29 pm In my official roll as shop monkey and in store scenery builder I have been given complete freedom this year to build the dark sphere gaming table for salute.
I won't post up the full table plans before the event as it will ruin the end effect, But here are a few pictures of the W.I.P build of the actual scenery.
Spoiler:
Did more work on it today, really trying to get the main structure done in time so i can relax and make 600 more trees.
Built the satellite dish and gave the whole structure a black wash to darken it for highlighting.
Salute is the biggest event in the UK wargaming calendar (well, apart from the Mantic Open Days, of course) and this Saturday (April 22nd) we’ll be there in style! For starters, we’ll be celebrating the launch of Warpath – our epic sci-fi battle game – and we’ll have the UK launch of the show exclusive Lee and Clementine booster for The Walking Dead: All Out War.
Our Salute highlights include:
FREE MINI! come to the Mantic stand (TB03) and claim your free Walking Dead: All Out War Walker. That’s right, a cool miniature that’s completely free… while stocks last.
THE UK LAUNCH OF LEE AND CLEMENTINE! This will be your first opportunity to pick up the show exclusive Lee and Clementine Walking Dead booster in the UK and we’ll have very limited numbers at Salute. Don’t worry, the set will be available online during the Mantic Open Day on May 6th too.
TRY OUT WARPATH! We’ll be holding demos inspired by the Operation Heracles Two-player Battle Set, giving you the chance to go hands-on with the swift and deadly Enforcers or the stalwart Forge Fathers.
CAN YOU SURVIVE AGAINST THE UNDEAD? Take to the streets of Atlanta in our Walking Dead: All Out War demos.
PAINT YOUR OWN WALKER! Spend some time carefully adding horrific blood effects and gore to a Walking Dead miniature before taking it home to scare your friends.
INCREDIBLE WARPATH DEALS! We’ll have a very limited number of the Kickstarter Battlegroups available, including Enforcers, Forge Fathers, Asterians and Veer-myn for £60 each, plus we’ll have GCPS for £50 and Marauder support for £30. You better be quick because they’re bound to go fast!
ANOTHER INCREDIBLE WARPATH DEAL! Along with the Battlegroups, you can get an expanded Operation Heracles set, which includes a tonne of Forge Fathers and Enforcers, plus tokens, dice and the Warpath Rulebook Collection, all for just £100!
THE WALKING DEAD DEAL! What’s that? You still haven’t played The Walking Dead: All Out War! Well, this is your chance to buy the Core Game and the Days Gone Bye expansion for just £50 (saving almost £10) or you can get a massive Atlanta bundle for £100, giving you everything you need to recreate the story of Rick Grimes as he reunites with his family.
However, don’t worry if you can’t make it to Salute because we’ll be recreating some of the deals above on the Mantic website this weekend and, of course, Warpath armies and the Operation Heracles Two-player Battle Set will be available from your local gaming store soon or during the Mantic Open Day on May 6th.

Heading to Salute 2017? Don’t miss our best ever subscription offer!
Miniature Wargames has had a close involvement with the Salute Wargames show going back a full three decades. For all but one of those years Miniature Wargames has produced the show programme and – as the Salute show itself has grown – so the Miniature Wargames programme has grown with it.
In 2016, there were around seven thousand gamers in the venue at the height of the one-day show (plus a lot of traders, obviously!) and this year looks set to replicate that astonishing figure.
Taking place next weekend (22nd April 2017) at ExCel Centre in the heart of London’s dockland, Salute is the biggest wargaming trade show in the UK and attracts companies from all over the world, with the biggest concentration coming from the UK and Europe.
The large, spacious venue will be packed with hundreds of games to both admire and actually play – many are participation events – and the modelling and painting displayed, not just in the painting competition, will be second to none.
Plus, don’t miss Miniature Wargames’ best ever subscription offer, just £39.99 for an annual subscription – a saving of over 25%. This offer will only be available at Salute – so pencil in a visit to stand TE03 to make sure you don’t miss it. We’ll see you at the Show!
What's better than going to the biggest one-day wargaming event in the UK, the one-and-only Salute? Spending it with Steamforged Games, of course! To celebrate the release of the Hunter's 4-player expansion—The Heralds of the Winter's Moon—and Guild Ball Season 3, we’re going feral this month. Not only are we bringing a brand-new Theron sculpt to Salute but we're also cramming this week with heaps of Hunter goodness—Parts II & III of Theron's origin story are coming Tuesday and Thursday, while Wednesday and Friday will dig into Hunter design and tactics. But more on that later...
For now, start scrolling to see all the specials we'll be stashing at booth TD13 for Salute 2017!

Have also picked up a good bit of FW for peeps in my FB group.
Worth noting that the Legio Astartes dice are available. Already pick up two sets of Sons of Horus and one set of Word Bearers (all for the same person. And a sheet of Sons of Horus transfers)
My little FB group - making a Scalper cry with every exchange!
The Mantic stand seemed to be the place everyone rushed to first thing, that queue was crazy for a while and they only had really limited stock of the convention exclusives and the new retail packs. The staff were not expecting the rush and pretty overwhelmed. Was really surprised that I got there quick enough to get Lee & Clem convention pack and the not released until next month Negan and King Ezekiel boosters.
Modiphus stall was extremely busy with people trying to get more Fallout info out of them following last nights announcement. I was trying to spend £100 on a bundle there but given how overwhelmed they were they couldn't locate one of the items from it so walked away with nothing (I will order online at some point as can get the same deal there but no rush).
Warlords sold out of Test of Honor core boxes before 10 due to overwhelming demand so that was clearly doing well. They also had a lot of interest in Doctor Who but not sure how much of that was turned into sales.
What a show - majorly busy at the start - a lot easier after lunch... Great time though - lots to see and buy but limited myself massively to my £33 pre-order with Zinge, a Warlord Sherman M4 (£16 from PE2 Collectibles) and a 'not' Oddball / Donald Sutherland figure (£4 from Studio Miniatures) - Guess what I'll be doing with the Sherman...
Goody bag and purchases...
Zinge pre-orders...
Popped over to the MEdge stand to say a quick hello to the chaps - great to meet you all again (and thanks for the free dice) - and well done for surviving the day, hope it was a profitable adventure for you all. Didn't kick Lego in his false leg...
Show summary...
Parking at Salute = £20 (flat fee) Latte and pastry to start the day = £4 Queue to get in at 10:30 = rammed Warlords = rammed Wayland = rammed Troll Trader = rammed Forge World = rammed Hasslefree = rammed Main concourse at luchtime = ridiculously rammed Variety of traders = excellent Variety & quality of displays and games (demos and participation) = excellent My feet at the end of he day = worn out Photos taken = 100+ (will sort through, upload and post them later... mostly of the various games tables although don't ask me which are which !!)
Despite a horrific queue, we weren't packed in like sardines ala Comic Con.
Bought loads, majority is for my Loot Sharing group - including the previously sold out Sons of Horus and Word Bearers dice from FW - five sets in total, all bought to order.
I can't recommend attending enough. I'm pretty much a GW 'purist' gaming wise, but it was nice to see what else is out there in the industry.
An excellent day. Always good to have a look at all the different games out there, and all the pretty games and models.
Managed to get away with only a couple of purchases - some pigs for a guildball goal for butchers, and the two new MEdge books. Plus the two free event miniatures too.
Great to pop by the MEdge stand and have a chat about the games with them all (and pick up cool free dice too!)
We got there about 11 at which point you could just wander straight in without waiting, it seems to work more easily as less faffing around to start with
Another great one. This year is marked by loads of free minis and goodies… seriously I got something like 8 miniatures totally free Took plenty of pictures and found some really new upcoming projects with fresh miniatures. Will do the ussual report later once I sort out the pics.
Feet on the sofa and reading another freebie ( a full colour 300 page rulebook from wild west exodus ) mental.
So I've heard about salute for years. I've never been. Chicago is a long way off from there. However can someone please tell me how does this compare to GenCon? What is the closest US compareable? Thanks.
Plus, for our Colonial Chums, by late April the British Weather is often not being an arse any more, so probably a good time for a wider holiday in London - and with decent transport links, Kent might prove a good county to base yourself in. We also have Castles.

Salute is a one-day event. As you can see from the videos it's basically one giant exhibition hall with a smattering of gaming tables mixed in. It is pretty focused on miniature gaming. Gen on is a multi-day event (I think like wed or thurs to sun) that focuses on all types of gaming, so miniature gaming is just one element. Certainly attendance over the whole Gencon is larger than Salute's one day, although I'm guessing that Gencon's one day tally is still larger (though I don't know for sure). Gencon has many different rooms filled with different types of gaming, besides a massive vendor hall.
Adepticon is the US's largest con focused mainly on miniature gaming but again is a multi-day event (Wed-Sun). One-day attendance is likely much smaller than Salute (around 1,500), but there is much more gaming going on in many different rooms.
So ultimately what makes Salute different is that it is a one-day event mainly focused on having one giant vendor hall.
Those new models look nice. The beauty about them is that not only are they for ME (obviously) which I play, but they would be good for using in other games as well. Put me down for a box or two.
Damn I so want to get to salute but it would take over 3 hours to get to, did anyone get to the spectre miniatures stand. Those guys have sucked me right in to spectre operations.
Got the greenstuff at Troll trader they sell it really cheap in huge quantities bags. Failing that go for Heresy miniatures they have some of the freshest GS but not has cheap.
Believe it or not I struggled to find milliput this year. No one had it except on store.
Ahh, there you go - I saw the Troll Trader stand and it was literally heaving... So I didn't venture in, just peered in from the sidelines ! Next year maybe... Will check them online though and see what deals they might have (tend to find the TT ebay store does better deals then their regular online store for such items...)
That's something I'd like to see more of at Salute though, more hobby tools, accessories, paints, etc... Everyone had the Army Painter glues, but I prefer Humbrol (liquid poly) -
but didn't see any of this on the stands...
Was great to see the company selling airbrushes and equipment this year though (albeit somewhat expensive for my tastes...) - Barwell BodyWorks I believe, will have to investigate them some more as I'd like to get some use out of my airbrush set-up eventually
Totally agree the hobby supplies have been dropping each year to more specialised miniatures/terrain traders. If shops like antenociti and others don't go to salute ( like this year) it becomes harder to get basic generic goods.

I did. I bought a couple of their new Civilian Vehicle Alfas, and the range of civilians, plus banker, blackmailer and the sheikh. I'll be posting photos shortly!
Did you see the new razor buggy. Am looking to pick some up for my us spec ops teams. But yeah the sheik is on my list after I finish the next 6 ops guys.

I did, but I already have two buggies from Anvil Industries, so I don't need another.

Ah I've looked at the zinge one online, how does it scale against spectre minis.
I helped out at Anvil Industries doing demos for Afterlife. It was lots of fun.
This is the board that was in the back of the Defender.
And this was the far smaller board on the front of the Defender.
The Salute free miniature visited Afterlife...
The first place I went was Zinge Industries. They sell little £1 bags of miscast items. I spent £31...
I bought two cars from Spectre Miniatures
And two cars from Urban Construct
And four cars from Mantic - The Walking Dead terrain set.
These are one of each vehicle lined up, along with my Afterlife Cobra APC and Instigator
These were also from Spectre Miniatures
From Studio Miniatures
And finally, a useful wall for Frostgrave to go with my tower.
Many thanks for the coverage guys, great to see all of that stuff in the photos and blogs!
Salute just seems to go from strength to strength, and even on Dakka don't think we have had this sort of coverage and a thread stretching to 4 pages before
Had a great time myself. Always a good day out, even if you only go for a mooch around, so much to see. Spent too much, but I'm sure I'm in good company there.
I've always wondered with Salute, why is there only 1 a year? It's always so busy and I assume it's successful for the venue and the traders, so surely there is enough demand for it to be 6 monthly no?
Now there is no getting away from it Salute is one of the most important single days in a Trader's year. I'm not saying that a bad 'un can stuff your year no it is not THAT important but a good 'un can mean you can have some "Jam today" with your usual bread and water. Mind you last year we had extra Jam so there was no way this year was going to match those dizzy heights.
I knew this before hand- plenty of chaps had told me they were not going this year - reasons many and varied including "It is mostly fantasy now" and - often this- it's too bloody expensive what with parking and entrance you've dropped £30 plus before you are in -then the prices for cha and wads are ruinous .... so some chaps did not go.- they bought their gear by mail instead.
Nevertheless we were still knackered by the end of the day and could afford to eat that night and even have a half of shandy to wash it down!
Overall though I did get the impression that the show was having a slightly "off" year. No big deal, it happens. No real surprise after the very high point of last year. I don't think any of this was down to the organiser just chaps taking a breather. There certainly were far fewer European chaps about. I never had to do the "4 customers in 3 different languages at the same time" thing that has been a feature of more than one past Salute. Possibly because of their election, there seemed to be a lack of Frenchmen. I don't recall any Italians though there were several Spanish and some Germans.
However the Brexit nonsense makes you wonder if perhaps some chaps just don't feel as welcome here as they used to. It does make you wonder.
I still didn't get a look round and saw no historical games that took my fancy on my couple of trips to the kharsi.. Indeed only at 1 Participation game did I linger. This being the Tring Club's 40mm Wars of the Roses game. A deliberately simple entry level game using my Romanoff Miniatures Warriors for the Working Day range. Now running a PP game is a skill I don't really have but this seemed popular and was well presented. Nice one Boys.
Don't get me wrong here it is still the best gig in town but not this year quite topping their own high standards.
Interesting article Ruglud. Having not gone this year I can't attest to that being correct or not but wouldn't be surprised if it were true. It's probably a combination of factors, maybe as those described and also some other gaming shows seemingly getting bigger such as the Birmingham games Expo (which has been pushed a lot this year)
I also generally think (and this goes for a lot of shows and has been for some time) that quite often the special offers are pretty crappy, very minimal discounts. It might have flown in the catalogue or pre-internet days when you would go to the shows for your big purchases and new army deals, but there are so many vendors on the internet now with quality sites it's much easier to plan and order from your own home. Who knows!
That makes for an interesting read Ruglud if only because I share the same sentiments.
I certainly felt that this year's Salute was muted by comparison to 2016. Even the coverage and advertisement leading up to the event felt a bit more constrained, with hindsight.
Still a nice day out (obviously!) but I didn't feel there was quite as much to see as usual. This has been my third Salute event and it certainly felt the most muted. The hall just felt emptier. I didn't think there were as many traders this time though I'm happy to admit that getting up at 3:30am to catch a train to London might have impacted my assessment there. Grumpyness can do that to a person!
Although seeing new releases, discovering new model companies and seeing cool models up close is primarily why I go (Spectre, Whitedragon miniatures, Warmill scenery and 4ground tables are all excellent examples of this) I felt a tad disappointed by the more established retail stores and even companies within the industry that didn't have much to offer in the way of deals or incentives to get me to part with money this year. (Boo first world problems)
Other than Troll Trader, though they're always good like that!
Talking of which... Battlefront selling kit at full RRP from their stall or Troll Trader undercutting them by more than half in some cases was the most glaringly obvious to me.
Even Forgeworld seemed quieter than usual. It usually has the largest queue at any one time as far as I've ever noticed on my previous outings but that award went to Guildball last saturday from what I saw.
On a foreign visitors note... I helped mediate between some Spaniards and stall holders in a few places (complete strangers to me!) and I definitely heard a fair amount of French being spoken but they could just have easily been Canadian so no judgement from me there! German, Dutch and Italians were also present and I'm certain I heard some North American English.
From a (small) trader's perspective, I will echo that it seemed a bit quieter this year. It is still invaluable in terms of meeting new people and increasing exposure, so it remains a great deal for that.
Thanks Silent_KIng, that's an interesting insight into the value of the show not just being measured in GBP. Would love to hear some more traders point of view about the show.. Hopefully some who frequent Dakka will stop by...
Well from our perspective (Wayland and Warcradle) it was a success. It is a huge amount of work for us but it is a great chance to meet customers. We worked really hard this year to minimize the time spent queuing, to this end we had 8 tills active all day. I think it made the difference having the extra few this year as I didn't see more than a few people waiting at any time to be served. But we were up 20% on last year so it seemed to do the trick.
This was my first year and I had worked out which stalls I needed to prioritise in advance then studied the map to make sure I went there asap. Worked well as I picked up most of the bits I was after. I then had a short wander around the rest of the trade stalls and then went home.
Next year I think I need to go have a drink after the initial rush for exclusives, wait an hour or so for the surge of people to subside a little and then go have a proper look around at all of the display cases and gaming tables. I have seen so many photos of things that I completely missed, even for the games I specifically went there to pick up items for.
Ruglud wrote: Thanks Navarro - your focus on the retailers, plus your personal view point on their ranges, really makes your blog stand out from the crowd
Cheers Ruglud, much appreciated!!
Today there will be no update since I have not managed to sleep last night and today I'm dead. Hopefully tomorrow I will get back into it.
I participated my first Salute and it was quite an experience. We also visited the Warhammer world day before, so there was bit of a miniature exhaustion already, but that didn't matter too much. Especially I liked Mierce miniatures booth where you could inspect most of the models first hand and the fantastically painted studio versions were on display.
I would like to thank all the competitors and staff on this year's salute painting competition. Some truly fantastic entries in such a wide and varied spectrum of subjects.

Navarro, thanks for the kind words about our stand. A lot of effort went into it by all my guys and gals. Even better is that was only phase one, there are 2 more significant changes coming, one for UK Games Expo and then for Gencon...
