Woah, dude. so much good stuff. I mist jay, the thing that jumps out the most are those incredibly cool 'clean' sanguinary guard. And you even managed to make that plastic relic dread look good. I always though those proportions were just a tad off compared to the Forgeworld ones. But you paint job does it justice.
And well, lovely shades of red overall.

Here's the full bits list:
- Pistol from Sternguard kit
- Head from Deathwatch kit (with green stuff sculpted hair)
- Torso is from BA tactical squad with the tabbard resculpted to fit the flow of the model
- Legs from Sanguinary Guard, with a sculpted chapter symbol on left leg
- Iron Halo from clam pack captain
- Backpack from multi-part commander
- Cloak from Forge World Loken
- Shoulder pads from BA upgrade spure and Sanguinary Guard kit

Thanks Hollow! Hmm, that's going back a bit actually but I used FW Artists Acrylic Inks over a silver base. I think the colours were Turquoise and then Dark Green to shade.

Have to agree with MajorTom, you truly are killing this raptors scheme. The paintwork is excellent! Love what you did with the cockpit lighting... very nice indeed and never seen it done quite that way before. As with your raptors, beautiful saturations and modulation (which you wisely toned down the gradient extremes for the red), though if I may offer one small critique, I think the blacks could be a bit deeper or more modulated, a touch flat grey compared to the rest.
Awesome job as usual -
35596
Post by: LutherMax
Thanks MajorTom! Fair point about the black/grey. The models are actually a bit darker in reality than in these pics (the stand makes them quite close to the lamp, which is fixed to the top of the light box), so the black/grey does seem deeper – but I agree a bit more contrast on those areas would be good.

Post by: LutherMax
whalemusic360 wrote:I actually hadn't noticed the cockpit until Tom mentioned it. Are the guys painted white/light blue as if lit from the controls?
The pilots and cockpit interior were painted dark blue, and the pilot was painted white on his front side only to give the impression of being lit from the controls, yes. The cockpit glass was tinted blue-green with ink to add to this effect, getting darker and more opaque towards the edges that meet the fuselage.

Well I did write this little tutorial: https://www.themightybrush.com/how-to-paint-raptors-space-marines/
Most of it is the same for vehicles except I spray the Athonian Camoshade - using it more like a tint - and then use dark brown oil wash for recess shading. The chipping is done with a sponge and then there’s some light rust oil wash around the bottom.

Especially the Xiphon Interceptors, the cockpits are fantastic.
I was going to paint my cockpits of my Vipers in my blog but after seeing your interceptors I might have to rethink that.
I am amazed you could glaze the cockpit windows so well without the colour dispersing the sides and corners.
Bloody well done!

@ Evil-D, the cockpit glass was super easy! I sprayed the inside with Daler Rowney FW Acrylic Ink using an airbrush. I think the colour was ‘Dark Green’ but it’s quite blue-y. Then around the lower / rear edges I used a dark grey-green paint to make it more opaque. The pilot is just painted black and sprayed White from in front.

I base coat them dark blue (Vallejo Model Air Blue), then airbrush a circle in the centre with Vallejo Model Air Light Sea Blue, and then White.

Yes, I know what you mean! That's partly why I chose Raptors for my own army – the more realistic military scheme seems to suit Primaris more. There is the upgrade sprue though, which might improve things!
