Bit of background, a friend of mine pointed me to a financial news site with an article on Games Workshop and how they went about presenting their IP to others. The writeup and pictures are from an investors fair, where they also gave a presentation on the hobby. Most of what was on display is stuff we already know about, like Necromunda, Forgebane and Space Marine Adventures.
Read it all here: [Link removed, see below]
All in all there's not much new there, standard article about Games Workshop and the stuff they sell. I was told to check the gallery at the bottom of the page though, which aside from showing off the above mentioned, also had previews of an upcoming Space Wolves release. No dates or in depth descriptions, just caption cards or whatever you call those cards they stick in front of models. I was quite surprised that aside from the obligatory upgrade sprue and lieutenant blister / small boxed there was more to this release, though the rumours have already hinted towards at least one big model coming.
The obligatory Primaris Space Wolves upgrade kit, with a pair of hairy heads, obligatory pauldrons, wolf pelts for armour decoration, a pair of power axes to keep the Vikings in Spaaaaaaace vibe going, no real surprises there really, on par with the other upgrade kits. Quite surprised they kept things so.. restrained, like with the other Primaris upgrade kits.
"Space Wolves Primaris Hero", so their version of a lieutenant and it's okay for a Space Wolf with a lighting claw and bolter. The pose is a bit wooden, perhaps a bit too 90's..?
"Baldr Aesir", some sort of psyker/librarian type (can't remember what Wolf psykers THEY HATE PSYKERS AND DON'T USE THEM are called, not my army!), I like the new shoulder pads and especially the alternate head piece, we need more majestic beards.
"Broddja Mammoth Thunder Artillery" which is an armoured robot elephant of sorts I suppose? Seeing as it in two variants, one with a battle cannon of sorts and heavy bolters, the other with some sort of (speculation here) oversized melta weapon and lascannons, we can safely surmize that one is for hordes while the other is for hunting monsters and vehicles.
"Krom Dragongaze in a Contemptor Dreadnought", which is something I suppose? Did he wind up near death around the end of the.. can’t remember the name of that campaign book involving Cadians, Imperial Knights and Orks. I just hope it has more articulation than the current excuse for a plastic Contemptor.
Leman Russ in both regular and Wulfen form, OBVIOUSLY.
So yeah, whinge, whine and whatever away at this with the usual stuff.
Well I mean if Hannibal can march 40 elephants over the alps like an absolute mad man, it kinda makes sense that you can imagine the space wolves having elephants.
I do appreciate you can dakka them up, this could lead so some awesome alternate squiggoth conversion for the ork players
Now the caption just says "Space Wolves Primaris Hero" and it's okay for a Space Wolf with a lighting claw and bolter. The pose is a bit wooden, perhaps a bit too 90's..?
OK maybe I'm reading too much into this but doesn't that lighning claw and wolf pelt on the shoulder look a bit familiar...
I'm not sure if this is legit, but at AdeptiCon one of the Warhammer Community guys mentioned "Fellhanded the ReBjorn". At first I thought he was kidding around, but they put out that joke video about plastic sisters a few months ago and now they're actually confirmed . Maybe this is for real...?
BrookM wrote: Really? REALLY? That name just makes me gag with the lack of creativity, I fear I may snap my own neck from whiplash if it were to be confirmed.
Right!? Note this was in the hotel bar after he'd had a few, but it seems to line up with these rumors, and it was the same guys who were revealing other crazy things (plastic sisters!!) at AdeptiCon. Still better than something like "Murderfang", I think...

That has to be a joke, I mean it seems like GW is letting their hair down humor wise so it being a joke would make more sense
Did anyone else hear that they are going to have their own psychic discipline? Is that a new thing? Must say I stopped following SW when the wolf sleigh was released and don't remember it being from prior.

Every faction that has psykers got its own little psychic power chart.
The more I look at the mammoths the more I like them. I mean yeah space vikings on cyber elephants, ha-ha-ha. But honestly the silly horse left the fluff barn around the time Inquisitor Sherlock Obi-Won Cleusseu took the field and silly can work if it's done with a straight face.
I actually like the Thunder Wolves too and they both make sense in the SW context.
Ultramarines don't need to ride giant eagles or whatever, they have a mini-emipre of 100 world to meet their needs. But Fenris was never the most industrial world, whatever tanks the SWs have have to be imported and maintained when there's really no one outside the Fang who can do that. And they last we saw of the Fang was well...
So it only makes sense that the SWs would turn to the mega fauna of Fenris as an option.
I'm actually interested in seeing how the SW story arc goes from here. I'm hoping that they have been exiled/excommunicated/whatever and now find themselves as outcasts but still fighting for good. 40k has long needed that kind of 3rd faction to break up the whole Imperium vs Chaos dichotomy. There has to be some human faction that's not Imperial but also not covered in spikes and tentacles.

Ah. Only own two codexes (SM and Eldar).
Was thinking about the mammoth and was wondering if it is an adaptation of the Ogre ones. It certainly seems to share some design elements, I don't remember the tusks being that similar but could that be the angle? or am I just imagining things.
The more I look at the mammoths the more I like them. I actually like the Thunder Wolves too and they both make sense in the SW context.
You know, I hadn't thought of this, but you're definitely right in that context! And I'm warming up to them, too - wish the pic was a little better, though, as it's hard to make out much detail to really determine how good the sculpt is, and how much of that is just the painter.

Yeah I'd like to know if the runes are transfers, freehand or actually molded into the armor.
I think it's great they're bringing over their "big monster" expertise from AoS to 40k. I'd like to see more of this, and the the ThunderMammoth (or whatever they're calling it) is a great start.
I'd really like to see a Kraken model, even though it'd never hit the table. There's always been a hint that the megafauna on Fenris is due to Tyranid influence; I'd like to see more of those beasts as well.
Wait, they're putting Dragongaze in a Dreadnought? That's just gonna make the old model invalid to play with. Good thing I passed mine on, right?
A lot of people say that GW's long term goal is to have Primaris replace all "regular" Marines. I thought that theory was pretty silly, but this is GW, and this looks like the first step in doing that.
VictorVonTzeentch wrote: On the plus side though, if they are just gonna Dreadnought all the Shorty Marines, maybe we'll get Dread Squads like in 30k.
Yeah, I'm not really keen on that idea. Dreads are cool, but not cool enough for me to scoop out £40 a Dread to make an army with. God only knows how much this one will be actually; they could be going down the route of the Wazbom Blastajet being added to the Bommer Kit - make the box bigger by adding a single variant that needs its own sprue, meaning they can up the price of the whole original box, whether you want to build said Wazbom or not. Hopefully that's a syndrome that just sticks with the Space Wolves, and isn't something we see added to all Primaris Dread kits.
But I suppose on the bright side, this could be a kit like the current SW Dreadnought, which has multiple variants and characters for Space Wolves. Time will tell when GW does a Community announcement, I suppose.
Looking again at the Thunder Mammoths, it looks like the crew are all Primaris Marines, even in these small images you can see the different proportions.
I can see why "Manny" the mammoth will suck people in. We were in desperate need of a Giant Kaiju thing to battle all the Giant Robots.
On the other hand...
"Krom Dragongaze in a Contemptor Dreadnought", which is something I suppose? I'm sorry but he looks fantastic to me. I may have to build a Space Puppy army just to use him in it.
Apologies to everyone but we have been asked to take down the images, it looks like the original article has been removed as well. If you did snag copies of these we ask you not to repost them here.
By all means continue the discussion but again, do not repost the images, they will be removed.
Send me the pics too, please. It was pretty obvious the Pups of Russ were getting an overhaul or new units, including Russ himself, but some of these are outright unexpected. A mech mammoth? I need to see this.
That's quite the elaborate troll. Over a week in the making, but notice how all the original posters are mods or DCM members. It's a conspiracy I tell you!
Oh you cheeky bastards. I was wondering why I hadn't seen this anywhere.
Some if it actually sounds plausible though, and Russ is pretty much guaranteed since they'll be due for another Primarch soon and the Pups are the only Marines without a codex now.

Sounds a lot like like this...
Spoiler:
That's pretty close to what I saw, GW has always been keen on taking inspiration.
This thread is a really really good Easter thread. I totally got into the Easter mood until pretty late in the thread when Easter dawned on me. I hope it's okay to say this .
BrookM wrote: Really? REALLY? That name just makes me gag with the lack of creativity, I fear I may snap my own neck from whiplash if it were to be confirmed.
Really? I love it! Goes well with the vibe of an army that includes a dude on a Santa sleigh... They should get the guy who came up with that to write all of their new codexes.
So I'm betting this codex will be Vanilla Marines +1 just like the Angel dudes.
If anyone wants to PM the Mammoth thing though please do. I couldn't care less about anything else because nothing else intrigues me as much. This is the kind of ham the army needs with their Wolf Calvary.
Accolade wrote: We’ll see who is laughing when this turns out to be 90% similar to the actual GW release
Eh, besides the mammoth thing a lot of those aren't Easter level. Dreadnought Krom could be a thing if we didn't already have Bjorn for that (and if Krom indeed died, which I do not know), Leman Russ coming in human and Wulfen form a la Morathi has been a rumor for a few weeks now (and Russ coming with or soon after the SW codex is a very real possibility), the Baldr Aesir guy is only a guaranteed fake because we already have Njal, we're obviously going to have SW Primaris upgrade kits and a SW Primaris Lieutenant guy with Wolf Claw is a very real possibility.

Thank the lord for people coming along and deconstructing a joke for us all.
So were there images of the dual form Leman Russ? Not gonna lie, I would like a PM of that (or the mammoth).
It would seem that as we get nearer to the end of the codex cycle we are starting to see more models. I’m all for more models.

Can we please repost the pics post Easter, they seam to be too good for being held in PMs only. Plus it should give Taco BOLS something to show as “sneak peaks” in about two weeks time .
That is what I thought so as well but the post started like a few weeks ago. So what is the post that started the Aprils fools? I am totally lost here now.

It was most likely a DCM only thread until yesterday. Pretty clever.

That would explain why every post on the first page is either a DCM or a MOD
I also wonder if these will be available in the NEW MATERIAL Games Workshop plans on using to cast miniatures?

LOL thanks for posting. I was surprised I couldn't find this on the Community page. I thought GW wasn't going to do the Aprils fools this year.
Is it bad that I found the rumors believable? I mean after dinobot flying chaos turkey and Santa Logan on his sleigh... can you really discount off hand space wolf robomammoth with primaris riders?

Yeah, I didn't even blink. It sounded exactly the sort of thing they would do.
At first when I read the OP I did not believe it. Then I saw all the posts about it and the one about the images being retracted and I reconsidered, thinking it might actually be true.
Then I remembered what day it was.
A very well made joke, I must say.
