Introduction
The following project is based on a "Marine Expeditionary Force" but only in the size of a Rifle Company, anything ells would be a little to big.
The idea for the project started back in 2013 as I had the opportunity to buy a Dreamforge leviathian for just 42 Pounds. I was impressed by the modell that I went out and bought a whole army, the offered prices were just too good. I was lucky again a year later that the vendor was having a clearing out sale on all Dreamforge items and I immediately bought up all I could get and wanted.
In this project I am using a lot of different producers as I am not fond of the standard weapons that come along with the Dreamforge infantry.
Apart from that I have used a diversity of modern 1/48 scale models as tanks and other vehicles which I find suit the part quite well. To be able to make all the different weapon systems I wanted I used a lot of third party bits.
Each of the individual spoilers "buttons" will take you to the relevant model of that topic, instead of going through the entire thread to see the pictures. I will add more and more as time goes by and I have finished painting the models.
I would call this kind of project a "Near Future" type, imagine the future in about 50- 100 years . Weapon systems have changed over time but not in a too extreme Sci-Fi fashion. Artillery is more important then ever as the use of laser weapons on the battlefield has become more common, due to this Missiles and rockets have lost some of their usefulness.
Humanity has started to conquer our galaxy but only for the use of its resources.
"Near Future"
The world we live in has changed, the 3rd world war did not come and go as we expected it too. The war went on for many decades but only behind the scenes instead of a years of long open warfare.
The great nations of the world fought each other through third world countries, so called proxy wars.
Initiated uprisings and rebellions, conspiracies and deceptions were on a daily basis.
Pin point accurate stock market crashes took away nearly all the people had left, this drove the majority of the people into the dependency of the state and thus giving up their sovereignty.
A number of unbelievable cover-ups and deceptions were uncovered in USA of that time. This brought the USA into a 2nd civil war which went on for years.
This left the former super powers country and population destroyed to the ground.
After the population, in the name of protection and justice gave up their personal freedom and after they were robbed of their privacy, humanity started to revolt and turn against their governments.
But as Planed their was already a savior.
???
Ordo Draconis
The "Ordo Draconis", the first galactic expeditionary corps, 1st ironcore regiment, 7th battalion, company alpha will be the main focus point of my army.
A large part of our Earth is caught up in a "nuclear winter" I will try to show this on the bases the models are on. I have chosen the topic of a city battle as it fits perfect to the grey colour scheme I have chosen and I had the chance to use some of the really fantastic TT-C buildings.
First I wanted to use a different colour scheme then what was on the boxes but after seeing the amazingly painted miniatures from David Woods "Dwartist" my mind was set and it was done for me!
Picture by David Woods from the dwartist Blogsite
If you do not know the "Dwartist" you must have a look at his site, really great stuff there!
http://dwartist.blogspot.com/
As you can see the colour scheme will be a more natural realistic nature and not a fantastical colour pot.
I have chosen this Rifle company to resemble the US marine Corps rifle company because there is so much information out there about weapons, vehicles, unit sizes and so on.
Of course there will be deviations as I have added some modern weapon units and units.
I have a fable for gatling guns so you will see your fare share of them .
All in all the build up will be as follows:
Rifle Company Alpha
•Company Headquarters
•Company Commander (Commanding Officer/CO) - Captain
•Executive Officer (XO) - usually a First Lieutenant
•First Sergeant
•Gunnery Sergeant
•Property NCO
•Messenger/Driver
Rifle Platoon (3)
•Platoon Headquarters + 1 LAW
•Platoon Commander - Lieutenant
•Platoon Sergeant - Staff Sergeant
•Platoon Guide - Sergeant
•Messenger
•+1 LAW (Ligh Armoured Walker)
•Rifle Squad (3) 1x designated marksman 1x radioman 1x tech 1x Reconnaissance Drone. +1 each Rifle Squad 1 medic
•Squad Leader - Sergeant
•Fire Team (3)
•Team Leader/Grenadier - Corporal
•Automatic Rifleman - Lance Corporal
•Assistant Automatic Rifleman
•Rifleman/Scout
The colour separation will be, grey armour, yellow, blue or green left shoulder with a number on it 1,2,3.
Green for 3rd Platoon and 1.2.3. for each rifle squad.
Alpha green 1 would then be "Rifle company alpha, 3rd Rifle Platoon, 1st Rifle Squad".
Every rifle squad will have a medic and a LAW combat android. In times of peace or on camp the droid will take car of all the heavy duty work and logistics, while in combat he will be geared up to blow the gak out of you.
every rifle squad will additionally get a recon drone which will extend their operational capability.

At the moment I am not quite sure if I will use the standard infantry or the medium heavy "Valkir" infantry for the 1st rifle platoon.
As the 1st platoon should always be something special I am still tinkering with ideas for this unit, maybe just a different colour scheme.
That way I could use the medium heavy infantry as a separate unit, we will see.
So I will jump the 1st rifle platoon until I Have a better idea.

Heads up :
I've whacked some spoiler tags around your images for now as they're a wee bit large for some and might make it a bit awkward for some to browse.
.. currently there's no actual minis, just text/headers -- gonna assume this is intentional and there's more to follow ?
Good luck with it all anyway, hit the mod alert or "yell" if you need assistance.

Thanks ingtaer.
So here we go! Let's start with Big Ed
Here we have the LAW android of the "2nd Rifle Platoon" "BIG Ed", each rifle platoon will get at least one LAW
Just finished putting some snow on the model, the number are still missing but I will print them out later when the full platoon is finished that way I will get the page full.
"Big Ed" is posed in a dynamical pose, I tried to get him to look like he is firing a burst while pushing away that wall, just a nuisance.
The way I imagine these LAW units is similar to the TARS robots from the film "Interstellar" with their own character, humor and logic.
LAW 21 (Light Armoured Walker) "Big Ed"
I also started work on some of the infantry, here is the start of the command HQ.
as you can see the GS work is not quite finished as I am concentrating on getting the positions right first
Rifle Company Alpha Company Headquarters´
Property NCO                      Company Commander (Commanding Officer/CO) - Captain and dog
Messenger/Driver with radio/Laptop                      Executive Officer (XO) First Lieutenant
Gunnery Sergeant                          First Sergeant medium heavy Valkir armour
One of the first tanks I worked on was from the 1st Ironcore tank platoon alpha.
Originally I wanted to use Abrams battle tanks but they are quite expensive and difficult to get in1/48 scale.
So I thought why not use a converted Leopard II A5 tank seeing as the whole Dreamforge range has a German touch.
I was able to get my hands on a whole bunch of cheap 1/48scale tanks for only about 10-12€ each
As you can see the tank is converted a little. The first has a SAM unit on it as protection. every tank will also receive a recon drone which is missing here as I am still working on them.
The base was held simple as the tank covers most of it anyway.
All standard main battle tanks have the code ID which stands for "Iron Dragon"
ID1-42
The second tank is also from the 1st Ironcore tank platoon alpha.
But in this case it is the command tank, I painted this one up in a grey camo scheme, of course more antennas and 2 "Tank killer" missile launchers.
You can see the officer looking out giving commands, but he is not painted yet.
The base on this one is a little more complex, even if you do not see half the detail when the tank is on it but the bases are great fun to do.
The idea behind the choice of weapons is the following, 2 tanks each have a SAM unit designated as protection against ATG missiles and 1 tank is a designated tank hunter with STS missiles. Each of the tanks also has a recon drone which enhances the fighting capabilities and combat distance.
ID1-25
So what do you think?

Unfortunately the pictures have turned out a little darker and it is hard to see the highlights
I present you with the first of the two of the 3rd Ironcore Aircraft Wing, Gunship group 39 "The Dragonflies"
originally I wanted to us the German "Tiger" or "Bell AH-1Z Viper" but they are quite expensive and difficult to get in 1/48th scale. Since I have been a kid I have always been great fan of the Apache gunship and as I could get hold of 2 for 12€ each I thought why not.
I converted the gunship a little to make it more futuristic. What do you think??

Well thanks Flinty, although a lot of the colour does not seem to be visible on the pictures, shame they look a lot better in real. Somehow I just can not get the lighting right.
Ideas or suggestions for additions are always welcome! So if you can think of anything I would be glad to hear

Love the ruin, is all that interior debris also in a TT combat kit?
The army is also cool, looks like a somewhat near-future force when based on modern cars.
3309
Post by: Flinty
The only thing I can thinkofis a few more force recognition patches. You've already got.a designation number and your force glyph, but you could add a few more colourful patches designation the regiment or.comoany, or crew pin up/motivational naming symbols.
121101
Post by: Evil-D185
@ Illumini
Yes that is correct, it is near future. If you have a quick read through the army build up page in the first post you will get a little background to it all
No the interior is either self made or some parts from separate TT kits, the debris though are mainly parts of the TT kit sprue
@ Flinty
Now that you say it I actually forgot it on the the main battle tanks it is on the HIMLARS, if you look on the 2nd/4th picture on the right side near down the front of the vehicle a blue/white shield symbol with a dragon in it.

No that would be far to work intensive for the icicles they are finished icicles form the model railway area.
The first few dragons I did were freehands but now I use decals as it goes a lot faster due to the amount I need to do.

OK will follow up with another soon

Post by: Evil-D185
Thank you Meer_Cat !!
I know you can go all the way with weathering and I am still learning. Though I like to keep it a little more subtle and do not want my vehicles to look like rust buckets especially the flighers
121101
Post by: Evil-D185
So would you like something new?
What about a new Mech? I know Malika2 wanted a new one so here is the next Mech
the first of two "Phantom Dragons" a paladin class close combat tank killer
The idea behind this unit is theta the walker would engage a tank unit in close combat at lightning speed. Taking apart the tracks and decapitating the barrel leaving the tank units useless.
Although it was a little to sci fi for me I added a large jump pack to the model as it seemed just to cool to leave away.
Lesser armoured then the standard armoured Paladin walker they have a higher attack speed and the jump pack.
So you could imagine the unit of two "Phantom Dragons" dropping down on the enemy and as soon they have decimated the first tank they jump to the next, avoiding enemy fire as they go.
Again I wanted a different menacing appearance to the other mech walkers so I used 3rd party bits to alter them
Paladin Dragon Armoured Walker "Phantom Dragon" PD- 23
Black is one hard colour to highlight I can tell you!!
And as always comments and ideas welcome

Wow. Not onlyis the black awesome, the weathering is just brilliantly understated. Also the posters and graffiti really tell a story all.on their own. Great work.

@Malika2
Thank you, glad you like it
@Flinty
Black is hard to do and unfortunately it has not come out well in the photos, in real it looks way better.
Yes the Bases do indeed tell a story, the bigger the base the more information and as we proceed I will be revealing more and more of the story.
So keep a close "eye" out and have a good look the hole concept, not only at the models.
well spotted Flinty

Wow man, awesome build! the walkers look fantastic and that gunship is awesome. The Apache with thrusters is a really good look for it. I wonder, what parts did you use for to bulk out the hull?

Post by: ghostmaker
The fluff the Army this is awesome. I love it
121101
Post by: Evil-D185
Hi and welcome
@Meph
Yes the thrusters had the exact right size for the model. The parts used were only the cheapest Apache gunship kit could get my hands on 12€ and some parts from Games Workshop Stormtalon. The gatling is from an old 1.35 tank kit.
I only shortend the back, removed the rotors and added the thrusters and gatling gun other then that it is all the original apache kit.
@ghostmaker
Yes the fluff does make an army stick out and believe me there is a lot of fluff in the army even if it does not appear obvious
But as always I am open for new ideas and thoughts.

Thank you Big H and welcome, well bases do tell the story to the miniature, it is always worth taking some time and effort.
@Malika2
Yes more mechs are on the working bench though as I have just received my first airbrush over the weekend at last, after contemplating about it for about 15 years. I will probably at last be able to do some large models especially the flyers I have been wanting to do. I have never dared do them with a brush so now can get around to doing them.
Also had to get a new lighting set up to try and make good pictures as some of the models are to big for my photo booth.

Bravo sir , I would humbly suggest not only have you grasped the basics of airbrushing you seem to have grasped far more advanced stuff and tore it a new a hole. The drop ship looks properly splendid to me, I can only look forward to more of your " beginners" work
What is the base model for the drop ship ?

This is amazing? What is the model you used?

Post by: Evil-D185
Rip' em a new one eh! Thank you very much Big H I am also satisfied although their is room for improvement.
I have been painting for many years but airbrush is new to me.
@ Ssgt Carl / Big H
The base model is a Quinjet from the Avengers
I filled some of the gaps, removes the entire inside, thankfully the top is screwd to the bottom part.
I added additional turbines to the sides at the front. I used a couple of tau turbines which I extended with plastic card
The cockpit window was made smaller with green stuff and the underside of the wings was covered up with plastic card as these are hollow.
Und then it was ready to be primed a great looking giant drop ship, dirt cheap only 25€

Very much appreciated kestrel, thank you glad you like it. I find it difficult to know when to stop with the weathering as you can go all the way which often makes the model look like a rust bucket, even if the effect is good. Though I find especially by flighers that less is better, I just can not imagine a machine flying if ever nut and bolt is oozing with rust.
Illumini wrote:I think you have the best bases I have seen in an army. They are fantastic pieces on their own, topped by really cool models.
Also a very humble thank you to you as well. I do understand that some do not like wandering scenery but it gives the model so much more life and tells a story of its own.
And especially just for you two here another base I am working on.
Done from scratch so you can see what is behind most of my basing:
As I have just received my airbrush I have started to mainly do my flighers, I have allways pushed them back as I only wanted to start with them when I had my airbrush. My first try by hand was a while back on the first Dragonfly VTOL but it showed me that does work but I could not achieve the effect I was hopping for.
This is the first Flying base for the 3rd Aircraft Wing Fighter Squadron 13 " The Lightning Vipers"
I used the left over parts from the TTC Building I used in this building https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/761655.page#10096884 so the entire building is made up of left overs and spare parts.
The inside was built up using foam board. Next I will be adding sand and bits, then it will be ready for painting.
So I quickly renovated the joint:
The facades have been painted
The entrance has been tiled
Laid down the laminate flooring
Wallpapered the walls
and gave the walls a new paint job
all in a days work
Next I will be putting in the windows and adding a few bricks

I am working on the second Viper base as we speak and I will post some making of pictures if there is an interest ?
So first the next picture of the first Viper base, now with windows, bricks, painting and the flight rod, just need to add magnets as soon as they arrive.
Now ready for snow and ice.
Here the second Viper base. Tried to do something a little different this time but tried to make them size wise similar.
I went for a concrete building this time instead of a brown stone style one. It was really just freestyle all the way decided to add an elevator as a little gimmick
What you think? anything I should alter?

Thank you monkeytroll, yes the elevator is a nice idea I think, there are not many chances where you can integrate something like that and make it visible. I hope it works out when painted.

Much appreciated Illumini, I think I am on the best way to a complete large city . As I mentioned a little further up each of the bases is made so it can already be used as a terrain piece.
but I do have a few terrain only pieces planned, like the artillery encampment and the forward observer base which we come together as the forward firing base.

Although I originally only wanted two combat jets I was so impressed by the simplicity and easiness of the kit I decided to get another one just for good measure. Luckily I managed to purchase one for 11.99 Pounds delivered so I took the chance, not much you can do wrong there. I know I originally wanted to stay to a authentic more natural colour scheme though having so much fun with the airbrush and wanting to learn and try out new things with it have forced me to go a little bit wild on this one! I have now done 3 Models with the airbrush and wanted to try something new, I think it turned out quite well even though it is only my 2nd time trying flames, first time on a piece of foam board to try and get the feeling for it. I gave the combat fighter a ghost flame paint job so the "Red leader" would stand out. I thought this model would be cool if it would be in a take off position. I will make a little diorama around it with a landing crew and the pilot running to the jet. Seeing as I have "Red 2" and a "Red 3 " I needed a "Red leader" right? Perfect chance to introduce the first special character Duke "Blue Ghost" Skydancer a top gun pilot specialized in air to air combat, what else It is still WIP, I am waiting for the missiles and I am not quite sure if I should have the cockpit open or closed? What do you think??? Lightning Viper DV-Z38 "The Blue Ghost" Red Leader Air to Air superiority combat fighter As you can see this one has four laser canons instead of only 2 and will have an arrangement of long and short range AA missiles

Thanks monkeytroll !
The vipers are real fun to do, shame I can not get a few more at a reasonable price, but then again I originally only wanted 2.
I am going to do a ladder and a ground crew with it. The cockpit opens by pushing forward either way you are not going to see much of the interior mainly only the seat.
So yes I am also tending to closed.

Thanks Monkeytroll, though you have seen the base already
So at last the little one is finished!
Around 2013 bought the model for only 40 pounds and that was the start of it!
Bought a large amount of infantry, looked around for suitable tanks and artillery. And BAMMMM the Project was on. Unbelievable how just one good offer can start a whole project and before that I had no real interest in Sci-Fi, only fantasy.
This model is not just one of the centre pieces of the army but also the entire reason why I started.
The base has been finished for quite a while now, which I had shown back on page 1
I really can not quite understand why gatling guns this size exist, I mean what logic is there in a machine gun of that size? There are way more effective weapons in that size category.
If you think about it you are firing artillery size ammunition, due to the size of the ammunition your barrel is going to be empty before you even blink, especially with the size of the models magazine .................. wait a minute, if you think about it?
Artillery size shells, fired gatling gun fast ....... I need two!!

Very well spotted
So here is the Special Ops Drop Ship.
base and miniatures are not finished yet, will follow up with that.
Got this drop ship through the kickstarter. Pure resin and heavy but a nice model I think.
The model was without weapons so I have a few questions for you all, please do answer as I am stuck at the moment.
What do you all think, is the gatling to large? Should it only be one not gatlings at the front?
Should I add rocket pods underneath the wings?
I just can not decide, I originally did not want to add to many weapons but without it looks a little naked.
It represents a special ops Black hawk.
The main idea behind it is a "Special Operations Drop Ship". That is the reason for the darker colour scheme, I will add fast roping special ops on the open doors later.

Again I added some micro LED's for the interior lighting

The Roc looks sleek with the revised positioning of the guns. I can imagine it noiselessly touching down in the dark of the night. Are you planning on making a commando team to deploy from it. Automatically Appended Next Post: I don't think it needs rockets, (Realistically I think giant rocket pods would compromise its stealth profile(they'd have to be right out on the wings to avoid cooking the commandos when the passenger compartment is open), the guns are nicely placed and packed away close to the body to maximize on stealth) Automatically Appended Next Post: Thinking Tactically
If it was a gunship like a hind and you didn't care about stealth, rockets all the way. You want maximum fire support for your troops. Stick as many ATGMS and rocket pods on as you can.
If it is a stealth transport (like what was used to transport a certain seal team) you'd be more concerned with delivering your operatives as quietly as possible so they have the element of surprise. I wouldn't think you'd want to be weighed down with rocket pods of all things.
You could have special sub-sonic ammo for the revolving cannons so the craft can provide stealth fire-support without breaching its primary purpose as a stealth transport. It would totally be badass too.

Yes I am happy with the alteration and I think it suits the vehicle quite well.
Are you planning on making a commando team to deploy from it.
Yes indeed, there will 8 -10 special ops guys fast roping, taking cover etc. Pics will follow as soon as I have the base done, which I am working at the moment
I don't think it needs rockets, (Realistically I think giant rocket pods would compromise its stealth profile(they'd have to be right out on the wings to avoid cooking the commandos when the passenger compartment is open), the guns are nicely placed and packed away close to the body to maximize on stealth)
Yes I do agree this was also the main reason I did not attach any in the first place, just the wings seamed so empty without anything.
But I do agree and thank you very much for your in depth thoughts about it, very much appreciated.
That is exactly what I love! Please do show in again.

Hi Flinty actually I missed the "Jagdpanther".
Totally missed to post that, thanks for the reminder!
The Idea behind the tank hunter came to me because I always loved the original Jagdpanther from WWII, even then a very modern looking tank for its time.
This way I could give the two tank platoons a little variation and I thought it would be a good idea integrate a tang buster with a battle field laser.
After finding a partly built 1/48 scale Tamia Jagdpanther by Ebay for a10€ I went for it straight away.
Of course I wanted to make the tank look a little more modern and gave it a "H.E.L.Laser" with which it could destroy any armoured vehicle with ease.
What do you think?

Welcome Imperial Templari, thanks to you to. Yes there are a lot of little things to see and think about on the bases, the larger the base the more information

Indeed they scale well and who is not to say that tanks will not get slightly bigger.
Due to the fact that I had a few 1/48 scale tanks I could already see that they would scale up nicely, it was just a choice of which tanks to use, in my case the Leopard II A6
The Vipers are a little large thow I did shorten them and when compared to the size of an actual F18 scaled down to 1/56scale they are actually smaller. So when compared to the modern military counterpart they do actually fit.
So no real problems finding the right scale. I just used Wiki and recalculated the scales for 1/56 - 1/48 scale models and went on from there.
Each vehicle will get its own drone, the larger ones 2 or 3. makes sence in a way as it gives the tank a longer fighting distance and the "over the horizon" view of the battle field
The drones are from Warlord games "gates of Antares"

Post by: OldMate
I have several airfix 48th scale landrovers. They're square on scale with my soldiers( Victoria Miniatures, anvil Industry and plastic cadians) so I the tanks are not really out of scale. Its just that tanks are quite big! BTW I call bs on 28mm scale being 1/56 because they're only 28mm if you measure to the figure's eyes.(. which is bizarre and stupid in my logic) Aprox 31mm from top of heads which is surprisingly about average height for a male 1/48th figure. The unfortunate thing I find is 1/48th scale is still an uncommon scale for land vehicles. Its basically limited to Tamiya.

OldMate See that guy next to the tread could well be your Ernie!
Yes indeed that fits just fine.
I also find you are absolutely correct on the 28/32mm and 1/56 scale subject.
There are a few other companies like Akademy and a few others that produce 1/48 scale tanks thow you can not compare them to the amount of producers for 1/35 scale, shame.
So here the second "Phantom Dragon" I am working on, not quite finished but well on its way.
Even if I have mentioned it before just for good measure:

The main part of the buildings is made of foam board, which is very stable and can be cut with a simple cutter knife.
Please do ask any questions you might have!

Well then let me give you a little heads up on some of the first infantry.
Here the first unit "Special Ops Unit".
Actually they are a 12 man team but I am still missing some bases but as soon as they have arrived I will ass to the unit. The unit is black to suit the dropship.
From left to right, back to front: Rifleman, Medic, Sniper, Radioman, Spotter, Officer, Tactical Assault, Support fire,
Missing not on the picture: Sergeant, Explosives Specialist, Rifleman, Tactical Assault
Special Ops Unit BD- 239 "The Balck Dragons"

Wow- just, wow.
Very excellent build. I'm especially impressed with how you integrated the main guns into the mantlet of the turret housing- it really looks as if the Leopard II model kit was specifically built to have those two guns included.
Love this blog!

Another great model. I love the AA gatling mount, but surely it needs a bigger radar
Fantastic paint job amd dynamic basing as always. Thanks for.sharing.

Awesome super heavy tank. Didn't think a 35th model next to its 48th counterpart could fit so well. What is on the commander's cupola and is that an auto cannon on the loaders? If so that's pretty brutal. For a futuristic tank did you consider massive targeter like on this awesome South African centurion (Oliphant 1B).
I believe it just spins around and around targetting stuff while the gunner and commander (and drone and other assets) are doing so to maximise chances of giving the first shot or fast engagment of multiple targets. Which I guess is one reason to have two of such massive guns.
Another suggestion is a hard-wire infantry telephone on the rear of the vehicle for close infantry support (not a new idea ( Aussie tanks had these in ww2) but it works) And yet another (which is new and awesome) is to have a screen next to infantry phone, hard wired to a camera mounted above the vehicle's primary weapon. so they can direct tank fire from a gunner's view. Automatically Appended Next Post: The Elysian bits and the afterlife grenadier heads fit well together, The individual bases are awesome and fit each soldier well.
Those tank match so well. So gritty and grounded with their bases and weathering.

So gritty and grounded with their bases and weathering. Thank you very much for your ideas and thoughts. Yes the 1/48 and 1735 fit well together, if you are looking for something super size. Indeed that is an auto canon and I will probably also be adding another second heavy machine gun on the other side. This tank will have 3 drones which will also be used for targeting multiple targets. Thanks OldMate, the special infantry did come out well. The parts work well together and the miniatures are only pinned to the bases so they can be placed on the diorama base when not in action. Something new but small: One of the first vehicles from the "1st combat armoured vehicle battalion" which will have all the troop transporters, working vehicles, scout and reconnaissance vehicles. Here one of the "Jeeps", it will also be a little diorama as there will be two crew who are unloading amunition. 1st combat armoured vehicle battalion Alpha D1-66 I think these fit perfect to the Dream Forge Warthogs, they look like they were made from the same line

I was wondering if you were going to do a light utility component to your force, Is that going to have a weapons mount?

Love the jeep - it fits in perfectly. And seconded on the barbed wire - it looks pretty damn realistic - certainly the best I can recall. May I ask where it is from/how it was made?

OldMate wrote:On second glance that barbbed wire looks nice, jeep looks like its seen a campaign or two. What type of conflict were you thinking fluff wise? Yes in deed there will be a full battalion, I am thinking about giving it a machine gun but not sure on this one. I thought the "Jeep's" could do with a little more weathering as they are workhorses and constantly abusing the off road treatment. Conflict wise is an interesting question. If you have a read through the first page: "Near Future" The world we live in has changed, the 3rd world war did not come and go as we expected it too. A number of unbelievable cover-ups and deceptions were uncovered in USA and around the World of that time. This brought the USA into a 2nd civil war which went on for years. This left the former super powers country and population destroyed to the ground. After the population, in the name of protection and justice gave up their personal freedom and after they were robbed of their privacy, humanity they started to revolt and turn against their governments. But as Planed their was already a savior. ??? So it could be after, in the US or continental Europe or even during the 2nd Civil War. I will be doing a little more fluff as I go along. IGtR= wrote:Love the jeep - it fits in perfectly. And seconded on the barbed wire - it looks pretty damn realistic - certainly the best I can recall. May I ask where it is from/how it was made?
Thanks and welcome IGtR, yes I do only try to get good material and the most barbed wire out there is rubbish. Sure you may ask it is 1/48 scale Nato razor wire from a company called Plus model I think Here for something new and a little different as I was experimenting on left over parts, just a shame not to use them. I made it using two left arm gatling guns I had left over. an idea I had from way back..... "Red Alert" Twin barrelled AA Gun

Indeed! It definitely could pack a punch
I am sure looking at the rest of the pieces I have left over from the different models that I will be making a second one but probably in connection with the forward base
So how about we try a little something different.
What if you guy's tell me what you would like to see next??
As I am constantly working on multiple projects at once, how about you choose what you want to see next?
• Motorized scout / recon unit (Unit of three)
• Motorized K9 unit (Unit of two)
• Predator drone unit (Unit of three)
• Long range Tactical Bomber Single unit)
• Rifle Company Headquarters (Unit of 6)
• Armoured personnel carrier (Unit of three)

Tactical bomber.
On the dogs,(i see you have Anvil ones as I have also used) it may seem a bit daunting painting them as german shepards(which they seem to be modeled as).
what I did was sat in front of my computer with a reference picture, then painted it:
{humbrol 93 (desert brown) over the lighter areas and 67 tank grey for black areas and skin} as a base.
I then used Citadel paints.
Screaming skull for lighter areas(like chest, insides of arms etc as kind of dry brush I rubbed with a finger to blend it a bit)
Rhinox hide around the areas where the black transitions to tan.
Chaos black diluted was used over the black areas of fur and was mixed with the already applied Rhinox hide.
I was happy enough with the colours to not shade on the dog's fur texture itself because I wanted to give the impression that it was a healthy and unbroken cote, instead of growing in clumps with noticeable outlines which would indicate mange.

Thanks I will try

Thank you very much for the good ideas, interesting use of colours. But you are right a reference picture will undoubtedly be of good use.

Fluff wise is the Ordo Draconis from Earth itself? Would be interesting if humanity inhabited multiple systems but Earth is still an unmitigated disaster and these guys are like the clean-up crew (from a more united human enclave) for the homeland.
Or that war looks likely with another faction and they are trying to gobble up as much strategic space as possible to give themselves the edge. Use poor old Earth as a buffer.

Interesting thought there Oldmate!
I was originally thinking that the world is dominated mainly be corporations, as it is already ;-)
The USA and Canada, the US which is in or was in a massive civil war.
The United nations of Europe, which have their own huge problems EU is now basically one nation.
The African nations
The Asian alliance
The New Russian federation.
What a fantastic piece of kit!!! like all of the Dreamforge models, but this kit does stand out. Just a dream to put together and looks fantastic. Personally I find the vehicle a little bit too big but that should not be the problem.
The first vehicle of the "1st vehicle battalion" which is the "Rhino" version. Basically a "warthog APC" chassis with a 88mm canon on top. I wanted to make this vehicle stand out a little more so I converted it into a halftrack. The crew is still missing, which I am working on at the moment and I still need to order a suitable size base for it.
"1st Combat Armoured Vehicle Battalion Bravo"
MRUV DR -311 "Rhino"

Indeed they do, at first I did not specifically purchase them because of that I just thought they would look great and the size fitted well.
But after painting them up I also noticed they look like BMW's.
At the time the Genstealer Bikes were not out so the options were not so good but I have now also got my self a few of those as I wanted a few quick attack bikes, things to come

Kinda speechless. The quality of builds and painting is 10/10.
You also have me regretting using the included Eisenkern weapons on my guys. Now I want to change them all out for Anvil guns like you have. Damn man. Great job.
You play this as a 40k army? Hard to imagine what some of this stuff proxies for.

Welcome and thank you very much SickSix, I still think there is room for improvement but I am happy you like the style.
Yes the original Eisenkern weapons are awful design flaw in my eyes, everything ells is so perfectly executed but the infantry weapons... eh no!
I do not play at them moment and have never played 40k since 3rd edition. But you can proxy it for nearly anything you like.
Need a tank with a rocket launcher take the HMARS
Need a drop ship take the "Black Dragon"
Need a Knight sized Walker use "Dragons Fury"
I mean the possibilities are endless once the whole rifle company and-ons are finished, that's the beauty of not being dependant on a gaming system.

Beautiful doggies, looks like you got the same colour effect I did, but your painting is much better!
Love the K9 vehicle and the unit as a whole is simpily awesome. Are you planning to colour them all as shepards? I mean it would go with the army's theme.
But I'm just saying I painted one of mine up like a dingo, and it has a prosthetic leg(that snarling one you put in the back of the jeep)(yeah, see dropped and accidentally ground into the concrete and had to be replaced with wire and putty!) And it is pretty cool.

Thanks OldMate, well you did have the idea and this is the beauty they were based off of.
>center>
Well I only have 4 so yes the unit is already completely painted as German Shepard's:
Rex with handler
Prince with handler
Duke and Baron on vehicle
"I'm just saying I painted one of mine up like a dingo" well that figures coming form AUS Would like to see a picture if you do not mind?
Yes I found it important to get the handlers positions to match the dogs motions, so they work as a unit
That is correct I have a large unit of "Valkirs" which I was first going to use as the first platoon but I changed my mind and they will be an individual unit at some point. I have already done a few conversions and a few test runs with different heavy weapons which have turned out pretty good.

With the Valkirs I think you could have an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how you imagine they work in conjunction with other units, with mixed unit tactics.
Such as using them as cover and firesupport(the same way you take cover behind a tank) when moving across more open ground.
Or perhaps by using other units to tag targets for indirect fire(firing auto cannons through walls etc).
Also another idea Valkir pattern hand grenades, because if you can carry a bigger gun you can throw a bigger bomb!
