Went onto the GW site to see the price of the Gaunt’s Ghosts models (I’m tempted but not sure as I’m. It a Guard player) and got put in a queue! Anyone know the price of them (in € preferably)? And how limited they are?
Of course, at AUD$110 for 6 Guardsmen, it's a bit too much. No, I'm lying. It's actually waaaaaaaaaay to fething much.
Seems not to be as they're sold out...
UK's showing them as "Pre-order product that will be delivered from 23/10/2021".
Might be due to the delays that frequently hit Australia/New Zealand, they're going to come back, but there's no 'reliable' date for the new stock the way the UK has the above and so they're just slapping Sold Out until it suddenly pops back in-stock?
I ran into the same queue this morning, but I just went to my FLGS and picked up one of the three boxes they had sitting around. It's pretty expensive for what you get, but the minis are really nice and seem useful in game.

This may be a bit off topic, but could you please take a better picture of the new ork boyz that's apparently in one corner of this box and post it in the ork thread?
I'm not sure if this is against any rules - if so please ignore me & tnx for reading.
GaroRobe wrote:Wasn't expecting an options, but at least there's one head option
It's the only option in the set - everyone else just has one head.

I tried, but it's really tiny and I couldn't get a better picture than what's already available. Looks to be new Ork minis with Shootas, that's it. Sorry!

Much obliged anyway! Hopefully they'll display a couple of them in this Monday's 'ere we go, but it's good knowing that they're coming in either case.

Umm say what? Weren't they suppose to be preorder this week? How come your flgs had them laying around? And selling. Pretty sure that's against flgs terms.

Yeah - these shouldn't have even been dispatched from GW! So how about a pic? And the name of the store?
Sounds like when GW did some other specialist model print runs. I know I had to wait a few months for my Ripper Jackson model to ship.
I suspect its just that GW is putting stuff like that on the back burner; doing small casting runs or just holding off for a long while until they've a sales lull to do a big batch.

I guess someone jumped the gun then? Not gonna disclose my FLGS though, I like them too much.
Kinda tempted to kitbash my own from Catachan bodies, Viking and/or generic Guard heads and some long cloaks I bought ages ago for a project I don't even remember.

Ah, I'm used to the plastic Necromunda gang upgrade kits that I just read that article and just assumed they'd be for sale separately as well.

about the same; $65 USD for old metal boxset of 6, might have been cheaper prior to the yearly price increase throughout the ranges, but no less that $30 USD; 42 Ib = $60 USD

In the UK they've gone up from £22.50 (IIRC) to £29 (EDIT: box does NOT have 2 upgrade sprues in it)

I think the old Cadian shock troop box was around $34 direct from GW. At $10 more I suppose its still more cost efficient than buying Space Marine plasma/melta sprues or buying the old metal plasma/melta IG duo.
edit ~ Also, did anyone actually manage to put an order in for Gaunt's Ghosts that *wasnt* dated for October?

$45 for a box of 10 infantry is horrifying pricing when that particular army runs their infantry in platoons of up to 30.

I don't disagree at all. But lets be real, if you were to be building a Guard army prior to the inclusion of this additional sprue, how would you be adding plasma and meltas to your squads and how much would it cost? More than $15.

Yep - the GSC Brood Brothers Squad is £25 and has a HWT in it (but I'm expecting it to increase in the annual rise).
Didn't Gaunt use a power sword he got from that hive city for most of the books? It's been years since I read any of them but I thought that most of the time he had that special hive royalty weapon.

Yeah after necropolis, this set is tied into the new book which takes place before then

Ah, ok and thanks. I didn't realize they went back in time with the new book as admittedly I haven't followed BL for years.
IG commissars are like the Primaris Lt., every few months there is a new sculpt. I wish the new taniths include more characters not represented before, we already had Corbec, 2 sculpts in fact if you count the BL release, Larkin too, wish they were replaced.

What are you talking about. They are in no way like Primaris Lts at all in release model.
They got Severina Raine 2 years ago, and before that the last new one was in 2014. There have been at least 10 primaris lieutenants in a much shorter timeframe. If you're making a joke, I'm not sure it's a good one.

They also got two Start Collecting sets bundling that 2014 Commissar in...meaning it sticks out more in people's minds.
And that's not even going off short stories/novels or even the bloody codices that prominently feature Commissars, an auxiliary unit in the grand scheme of things for Guard, on the covers.

alright, lets list out the sculpts made post Rogue Trader era:
Gaunt(this upcoming version)
Gaunt(metal/finecrap version)
Gaunt(BL version)
Severina Raine
Commissar(current plastic)
LE female metal Commissar
Lord Commissar(metal version)
Commissar reading book(metal version)
Commissar Boltgun pointing(metal version)
Commissar charging(metal version)
Steel Legion Commissar
LEDKoK Death Rider Commissar
2x DKoK Commissar
BL Ciaphas Cain
2x Commissar Yarrick(5th and 7th Ed)
3x 3rd Ed Commissars(point out by Dysartes)
that's 20 already without counting the tank commander Commissars/easily kit bashed ones from Baneblade kit etc/3rd party.

If we're talking "post-Rogue Trader" as our timeframe, then you've missed the wave of three that came out to support Codex: Imperial Guard in 2nd edition (one of whom gained as mask to become the SL Commissar during 3rd edition). Axe & hand flamer, power fist & power sword, and boltgun & power sword.
Not sure which of the Commissars you're referring to as "pointing" - do you mean the guy aiming his bolt pistol, with a swagger stick behind his back?
Yarrick gained his resculpt to support Codex: Armageddon during 3rd edition, and aside from being ported to the Worst Resin Known to Mankind, hasn't seen a resculpt since.
There's never been a "Valhallan Commissar" model released - you're either talking about conversions, or people painting the 2nd edition Valhallan Lieutenant model to look like a Commissar. To date, only the Armageddon Steel Legion, Tanith First & Only and Death Korps of Krieg have had Commissar models who have "gone native" to one degree or another.
And if we're talking model releases, there is no point including kitbashes or third part sculpts, now, is there?
I have to say that I love the new models, and may hope to get a set if they come available in the Fall. As for the guard pricing, I am just happy to have already collected what I wanted from Cadia. If Valhallans get a release someday, that may however get me over the hump of 5usd per infantry dude. That is a dollar per point. Holy cow, maybe that rip in the warp is real after all, a black money sucking pit centreren under Nottingham.

It doesnt work and never did.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, even if they are auxiliary, far fetching more of them than Marines and just as striking.
I remember seeing the Ghosts back in metal painted pretty decently in a magazine back in the day. I have to say I'm very impressed by the level of detail they've put into these plastic sculpts. Most of my minis are from the early 2000s and these blow them out of the water.
I don't play Guard but I'd like to pick up a set just for modeling purposes when they come back in stock. If sales are good hopefully they'll do another set of characters later in the series, or hell a Guard upgrade sprue for Tanith.
They’ve gone from, “they look like crap, but at least they’re cheap”, to now just being, “they look like crap”.
I think they're among the best models ever released by GW. I was tempted to buy them myself, even if I don't own any AM model and don't plan of start collecting AM. They're the first models since early 2000s that had me tempted to buy them just because they're cool, I haven't bought anything just to paint them since 3rd-4th editions stuff.
Price is definitely too high though, and I'll probably skip them, sadly. There's also a new wave of orks on the horizon so....

Blackie, are you talking about the Cadians or the Ghosts?
From context, I'm pretty sure MonkeyBallistic is talking about the former rather than the latter.
In the UK they've gone up from £22.50 (IIRC) to £29 - but the box does have 2 upgrade sprues in it.
According to description on GW website the box comes with only one upgrade sprue.
I don't know what to think of the upgrade sprue. Some of the bits are cool but I am disappointed that there is only one "hostile environment" head. The whole upgrade feels like a trainee sculpts that were decided to put into production instead of a planned release. I have nothing against Cadian models per se but this feels like missed opportunity to recut them into sprue of ten models with less wasted space.
I may buy a box of repacked Shock Troops out of curiosity but if I remember corretly, the mold lines were quite bad 18 years ago and I can't see how they would be any better now.
I am glad to see Gaunt's Ghosts released in plastic even if I don't find the models particularly exciting. I hope we see plastic Colonel Scaeffer's Last Chancers one day!
The fact they upped the cost of the Cadians for the upgrade sprue as much as they did ? Intense and insane, that kit is crazy old and you'd need many copies of that upgrade sprue to make a guard force. I get you can get he cheap 5 man cadian box but you'd still need so many of the 10 man box it doesn't really help you out.
I don't really need it, so I won't be getting ripped off by it but they need to sell the sprue on it's own. I'm not surprised they aren't but they should be.Makes me wonder if they'll end up just upping the box to like 50$ USD and just be done with it. I can't see new guard players getting all these to start a force, not with how many of them you would need to run an effective army.
Or make a box of Tanith troopers you could base an army on.
Oh well.
And amazed you can't get the new upgrade sprue separately, and that they didn't a) scrap the heavy weapon squad box and b) put the heavy weapon team sprue in the Cadian box.
GrosseSax wrote: I think the old Cadian shock troop box was around $34 direct from GW. At $10 more I suppose its still more cost efficient than buying Space Marine plasma/melta sprues or buying the old metal plasma/melta IG duo.
Pack of 5 plasma/melta guns cost 10$ from GW, though. Unless you really hate resin, it's better deal.

Yup, the ETB cadian box + resin special weapons make this set look like a total garbage. GSC guard is also a much better deal. Really, this sprue should have been free or very close to it, like original DW boxes. Alas, GW saw too many idiots defending uncalled for price hikes, SC deletions, and praises of the new, gak patrol boxes for it to ever happen again...
Or make a box of Tanith troopers you could base an army on.
Oh well.
I suspect this box came out of BL casting time allowance, not GW one, so it had to be a character set. Just like GW refused to release DW primaris HQ, then for extra insult BL released the ugly Ventris model with multiple DW markings (but no rules for DW, LOL) for extra jacked up price
Billicus wrote: If you're making a joke, I'm not sure it's a good one.
It's perfect one, because every single Lt model at least was for different SM faction/SM chapter/had variant loadout. Contributed something new. Almost every single of 40+ commissars was redundant, boring spam, no variant gear, no different regiment, no nothing, same-same cookie cutter copy paste. Ok, Raine at least was female, so there's one justified release
scarletsquig wrote: I remember when those same Cadian models were £12 for 20.
If the price had risen in-line with inflation, they'd be £20 for 20 today.
Not that it changes much but they were £15 when they were released (I found the White Dwarf from when they were released when the new price was announced to check what they were when they came out 18 years ago).

Do you have literally any evidence of this happening?
Mondays are when preorders made via GW's in store terminals that are not paid for by Sunday get cancelled.
My FLGS got in something like 25 boxes of Gaunt's Ghosts, they were sitting on a shelf behind the counter waiting for the weekend.. when I asked how many of those had been pre-sold thru pre-orders, ... "Four"
Next day I might be there is tuesday, so, I can either check then for stock, or if you need one, message me and I will get you their contact info

This would be dangerous to my wallet. Always liked the Tanith stories, if more of the cast get figures as well as an eventual troops box, well damn, it'd be a new army for sure.

We can always hope since we're seeing a cadian upgrade that the wince-worthy catachans are getting replaced with something that would be reasonably compatible with the ghosts... Fully recognizing this is giving GW the benefit of the doubt, but they also have been updating non-marine core units this edition (orks, necrons, again previewed cadians, sisters in the not so distant past, maybe forgetting some).
For all the folks who are hesitant to order online due to the delay, I stopped by the nearest 40k store we had after running some errands and they had a couple boxes in stock.
I don't play Guard but I love the Tanith stories so I picked up a set to paint after we move.
Somewhat related news, pour one out for one of the last good buys for IG players. Listed as no longer available, just as the regular Cadians get a nice new sprue and a not so nice new price tag.
The $10 simple build Cadians weren't great, but then again neither are the normal Cadians.

Or yeah maybe it's just dumb.
A light infantry/ optional camo cloak and silver knife would be kind of cool. Could probably merge enough heavy and command parts onto the sprue to make it a single kit with modern layout.
If they want to make another special unit though, I would love to see a similar box with Cain and the 597th. Cain, Jurgen, Kasteen, Broklaw, Sulla, and Jinxie Penlan.
Kanluwen wrote: I'd rather see Minka and some of the Cadians/"Cadian expats" out of Cadia Stands or Cadian Honour than another Commissar-centric bit.
Too bad they didn't include bits on the upgrade sprue to make minka or lt mina from Space Marine. And a plus to a Cain set is that it would be a command squad of valhallans.

Depends on which set. The first set was around $39.00 back in the day. Set included the essentials, Gaunt, Larkin, Milo, Dorden, Corbec, and a trooper.
Second Set had blisters with special weapons, and basic Tanith troops. (One even had a woman in there, if you can believe that. They were around 10-15.00, IIRC.) They gave you enough different sculpts to do a halfway passable Tanith Platoon/ company of 3 platoons.
The box was like one of the half boxes, and it was around 3d ed timeframe.
Ive seen a few halfway passable "Try Again Braggs, but I don't recall them coming from GW. Most of the time people just used Ox, or made one up from a 3d party company.
Brother Vinnie did some pretty good ones, as well, now that I think about it. and Vic's got a great batch of stand ins that are comparable.
I think I read that GW divides stock between FLGS, GW shops and online so just because something is sold out online it might still be available for shops to order.
Kid_Kyoto wrote: I think I read that GW divides stock between FLGS, GW shops and online so just because something is sold out online it might still be available for shops to order.
Exactly, heck the pre-orders are only a week typically so all the overseas store and online stock is already shipped and at the local GW warehouse even if its not sent out yet, it will likely be bagged and setup ready to be shipped out. So something selling out super fast online might mean GW tweaks the shipments, but would mean they'd have to tip into stock and opening it up and repack it all again.
Another reason I think we see some stuff come in and out of stock is that people panic and they order 3 copies from the same store or they order from several stores at once. Then once the hype has settled they cancel the ones they don't actually need.

I've wonder for a while if, after the success of Necromunda, GW would try doing 1 sprue sets for several IG regiments. These days it's pretty possible to do a set of 10 guys with lasguns, special weapons, officer and kneeling options, then add a separate sprue of heavy weapons.
Only time will tell of course, but it seems the best way to undercut all the 3rd party options. By going with their established IP GW could get fans to pay a premium for Tanith, Krieg etc and shun various sci fi army sets out there.
GW could certainly do what they've done with Warcry for the Imperial Guard. All they'd need is core infantry, a command squad (part of core infantry), a heavy weapons team and then some upgrade parts for tanks (eg tank commander etc...).
Most of the specialists and hardware are going to be generic for IG so having unique infantry would fit really well. GW could then add one or two boxes to really popular ones with some specialist models -eg Tanith could get a box of sniper scouts
I'd go bankrupt if they released a Tanith First And Only box especially if it had options for Tanith, Verghast, and Belladon, especially when it comes to the various pieces of gear and head options.
And then I'd declare bankruptcy a second time if there was a Blood Pact or Sons of Sek kit.

In my opinion any guard revamp or release needs to include a new Leman Russ. The current one looks like a dang Tonka Truck with terrible proportions and a height profile that is quite laughable. On the table, even from far away they're without question for me the worst looking vehicle in the entire game.

I don't see GW updating Leman Russ given that basic LR and Demolisher were recut in the previous wave. What we do need is a Basilisk & Griffon dual kit. It needs exactly one large sprue given that Chimera hull is already updated and used by Hellhound, Manticore and Hydra/Wywern.

That's fine. It still looks like a kids Tonka toy instead of a main battle tank. Personally, I'd like to see guard get Primaris'd. The look of the Solar Aux from FW would be a great new guard line, instead of having lots of little regiments. Just have one standard one.

This is what I'd like to see in terms of vehicles:
Updated Kits:
- Basilisk/Medusa/Griffon/Colossus: Going back to 5th edition with the Chimera Colossus variant, just rename the FW one back to Imperial Bombard like it use to be called. Just put all 4 artillery SPG options into the one kit like the current Leman Russ.
- Leman Russ Battle Tank (Battle Tank/Eradicator/Vanquisher):
- Leman Russ Cruiser Tank (Annihilator/Conqueror/Exterminator): - Leman Russ Siege Tank (Demolisher/Executioner/Punisher): Honestly, combining all the old FW legend variants and splitting the Leman Russ into 3 kits is the perfect opportunity to also do an update to the design.
- Valkyrie/Vendetta/Vulture:
Lets put them all into one kit as well.
The Basilisk is the kit that needs he update the most because it's still using the same Earthshaker Cannon sprues that came in the original box from '95/'96. Not only that, because of the way they recut the Chimera, the hull Heavy Bolter is no longer present in that kit. This means that GW has to keep producing the old Guard vehicle accessory sprue as that at least has a hull Heavy Flamer on it.
This could, in turn, lead to the default weaponry on the Basilisk becoming a Heavy Flamer thanks to GW's no model/no rule. Due to legacy concerns I doubt that would actually happen, but it could become the standard rather than the current default loadout.
So a new Basilisk - keep using this base Chimera chassis frame, of course - with an updated second sprue that contains the top artillery housing plus optional gun types (great place to include the Medusa and reintroduce the Griffon) and the necessary hull Heavy Bolter mount (and HF) would be the best idea.
I don't see them updating the Russ again, certainly not to change its style. Why would they want to change its style?

The Taurox says hi.
Even converted with wheels it's just an absurd looking vehicle.
