Welcome all to the 109th round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For the unfamiliar, this is a friendly painting competition open to members of all skill levels and experience, whether your entry is your first or you thousand-and-first time painting miniatures. Each month, finished entries are collected into a thread where the community can vote on their favorite pieces, and those votes go towards an annual overall League that runs for 12 rounds.
This month the topic is: Space Marine. Our classic start to the competition cycle, the ubiquitous space marine. GW makes them in many sizes and flavor, and color, but we are not restricting ourselves to the adeptus astartes. Any space-y marine-y minis will do. Do you fight for some elite unit out in the inky void of space? Storm the beaches on alien worlds? Visit exotic new planets, meet the quaint local aliens, and then kill them? And do it on the bounce? Well grab your gear and get on the ready line, time to paint!
How To Enter
- You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama
- You may enter at any time during the month, up to the last minute. We do encourage people to enter early, as to be part of the community, but if you can’t start until the 11th hour, that’s OK.
- You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting.
- After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win?
- Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have?
This challenge begins 1st of March and will end at midnight EST on March 31st. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.
Looking through the old Book of the Astronomicon a couple of weeks back, I turned a fateful page:
May I direct your attention to the fifth row, far right: Brother Lustgarten. My interest piqued I researched further, and found to my delight that the same miniature had also been released in an earlier incarnation (when names tended to be a bit more literal, as demonstrated by Brother Longun with his long gun, and skull-helmeted proto-chaplain Brother A Skull) as 'Brother Quiff'. It was now clear what I must do:
In the Imperium's darkest hour, Brother Quiff Lustgarten has returned.
crocus are plum, buttercups yellow..
neither of these are like the next fellow.. which spacemarines swear..
is certainly, surely a clear part of their..:
His eyes are quite wonky, his pupils are orange and big?
Is this' oh so surely a spacemarine rig? Inside stuck a monkey?
Does Nevelon care? The rusty machine makes a foreboding hum.
Will likely sit this one out, as we are moving house around week three of this month, so won't have much time to paint. Not that my xeno scum self has any marines around anyway (20 years of wargaming, only one Space Marine painted?!).
Excited to see what everyone else is doing though, so just dropped a comment to keep on track with this one
I'll be entering a 1980's Terminator squad. The first three are prototype designs before the Citadel studio had decided what terminator marines really ought to look like. The fourth one is a plastic terminator from the 1989 1st edition of Space Hulk, and the last one is a terminator sergeant, also from around 1989, I believe.
Going to either get back to painting my Raven Guard, or I might possibly paint up some Grey Knights I've had sitting on my shelf for approximately 13.7 billion years...
I'd like to repair/repaint my old finecast Calgar & honour guard if I have time between painting new minis. They require some tlc (bent/broken weapons, wrong base sizes and other modelling mistakes from when they were first built) and a fresh paintjob that helps bring out the detail a bit more. No proof pic just yet as I need to strip the paint first.

Do you hear the miniaturists sing?
Singing the song of angry painters?
It is the music of the people
Who will not paint marines again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is art about to start
When tomorrow comes!
Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond those Space Marines
Are there other models you long to see?

When the beating of your heart

Then join in the fight
That will give you the right to be free!
Will you paint all that you can
So that our banner may advance?
Some will finish and some will not (dam)
Will you stand up and take your chance?
Marine helmets on the ground
Will cover the bases all around!

You; a brave cadian aspiring to the spacemarine corps come across a little radio in an abandoned field, around you the grasses flippy and flop in the wind, bopping like a groovy toppa..
Suddenly the radio turns on and a program starts playing:
"Welcome!".."You have found the quiz radio!" *beep boops*.. "Do you like prizes?"
You suddenly realise that you love prizes.. and nod after which the quiz radio takes note and continues:
Option 1: Its.. a mek?
Option 2: Is it a mech??
Option 3: Could it.. possibly be a Mic?
Option 4: I know!.. it has to be a Moug!
Option 5: Hold it!.. it's certainly a Mougmek!
Option 6: The spirits have told me it is a Myip!
Option 7: The prophecies of old predicted this to be a trick question! ha!
-
You scratch your helmet and give your answer.. ..
..
"Hold your horses folks, hold your hats.." *beep boop* *zippityzap*
*click clack!*
*ding ding dingading!*
>>>BUZZ SOUNDS<<< (???)
"Did you select option 2? That is correct! It is a huge.. flippin.. giiiigantic.. M*crunch*"
Uh oh.. did the quiz radio just got stomped on by a mech?
Before you stands a mech.. From inside the mech echoes some weird repeating of the words "harhar" and "yub"..
How will you respond?

Ahah, i like that.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Had to dig deep for a space marine.
Of course it ended up the most difficult bin to extract from.
It is (Pupers of War), knight themed marines of space.
Well, here's a proper story to this "Spacemarine" entry! You better read it because it will give you the abillity to conjure wishing stars for an entire day, evening not included.

DA STORY TODA MOUGG'R-MEK'S MEKH.
Spoiler:
"toopid nubgoths" Klumpgug thought to himself having witnessed the self-krumping of Oothed (see the blunt Ork story of Oothed's three reincarnations) ..
Why would any self respecting Ork think of speeding through their perfectly useful current Orky form.. wasting the potential of maximizing the genetic output for that next incarnation..
That couldn't be the way to become a proper Orkgoth at all.. no .. amassing engineering-skill and applying it to whatever material one could find to build the ultimate Orky warmachines.. that had to be how you became an Orkgoth!
Mougg'r-mek Klumpgug braced his prized wrench in both his hands and held it up in front of the blazing fifty Suns shining down on the roof level of the ruined building.., below still smoldering the equally searing remains of whatever Ghazkghul Nuka actually had been..
"Da roundy ting of lifez!" Klumpgug yelled.. echoing into the distance, probably alerting hostiles..

At the combat site a group of tyranids was trying to spray down a compact group of Spacemarines with acid.., effectively because the marines had been forced into a tight formation around a single towering warmachine..

Billy sat surrounded by incoming tentaclous Tyranids.. watching how two Orks made off with the dreadnought, moving improperly and clumsily into the distance.. its left arm swinging up and down, while one of the two orks held on tight on top of it..
He knew.. he was never going to see his daughter again.. but atleast he was going to die with a recording of the weirdest vehicle theft ever captured onto his retinal cam.
As Billy could swear he was going to be strangled or sprayed with poisons any moment.. he heard an increasingly loud bouldering and rumbling closing in .. while the Tyranids started to skeet off in a panic..
Fin. (for now)
And ofcourse my 2nd pic being a wip. (that juggerthing is pretty weird with all its movable parts)
And yes, It will be more Orky, and yes there will be a lot of rust.
And yes a second Ork will be involved, eventually.
p.s. Ork on the right side of the IMG is not part of this entry but the preexisting Mougg'r-mek I will recreate as the pilot.

Right then, got my painting area back, so I'm going to try and make a start on this. Still not decided exactly what I'm doing, but I'll most likely be painting up one or some of these kitbashed 30k Raven Guard Consularis/Praetor. From the left, there's a Delegatus, two champions, a Praevian, Praetor, Vigilator/Pathfinder, another two champions/Vigilators/Pathfinders that I'm painting up as duellist Sharrowkyn and sniper Sharrowkyn, a Moritat and lastly a Primus Medicae/Apothecary. No clue which one/ones I'm going to do, so requests or suggestions are very welcome.
Or, as stated previously, I might ditch them all and do a Grey Knight kill team...

I was going to let him die there but then thought that would be way too sad so I left the ending open -_-
Also, Hu'ug loots every map and schematic he can find, he's not just a mek, he's also a bit of a weirdboy due to the coil strapped to his head.
If it has doodles on it Hu'ug considers it a legitimate blueprint.
I have decided that I will not include Hu'ug to the kitbash because I couldn't find a body that would work nor have a spare coilhead other than that of a Wazbom blaztajet which will have to be Hu'ug's future personal story.
The rumbling thing at the end of the story will be something new, something big, something.. very..big.
(Which will take many weeks to paint I bet) and is also left for a future episode of the Nite-Orks/Un(dead)Orks.
Technically I'm an Eldar painter, but since I had a small Space Marine army back in the early 90:s (before I left 40k for almost two decades) I thought it might be time to paint up another one?!
I tried to find a decently priced, but still fun, mini to paint as a one off so ended up with a Primaris Lieutenant with storm shield. Just arrived in the post so hoping to get started this week. I am notoriously slow when painting so hope I finish it before the end of the month!
Welcome Oskar! Always good to see another Eldar painter!
Don't worry, I'm also an extremely slow painter, I'm always asking for extensions to the deadlines at the end of the month. And sometimes I even meet those extensions!

My entry is nearly finished. Tomorrow morning, after the glue is dry, I'll apply some matte varnish over the flock to seal it, and then take some photos in the old photo booth.
My total since August 2022 is... 10 competed minis and lots of half finished stuff :(
In an online meeting not needing the camera on so gotten the Lieutenant ready for priming, going to assemble the pieces after painting apart from the body which will be merged as soon as I done the legs and the back of the tabard.
Looks good, ShadowsAndDust. I wonder if Dante wouldn't photograph better against a darker background, though.
I've been working on a prototype Samurai Marine, mostly just to see if my ideas will work.
Spoiler:
I started with the kabuto. First, I added the hachi, or cabasset, as it is sometimes translated:
Then, the shikoro, the armored skirt which protects the neck:
This takes a long time, as each "layer" has to harden before I can add the next. There may be a faster way, but I have four helmets done at this point, so that experiment is pushed back for now. Next, the maedate and fukigaeshi:
The maedate is purely decorative, and not all helmets had them. The fukigaeshi on early kabuto were much, much larger, but by the Warring States period, which I'm using as the basis for this project, they had shrunk down to the size you see here.
I apparently didn't take any photos of the chest pieces. I pulled out the rotary tool and grounded off the eagles and skulls and whatnot. Two of them I left smooth, and on two others I sculpted on some decorative lacing. After gluing the torso to the legs, I added the kusazuri, or armored skirt:
In previous interations, I just glued the plastic directly to the model, but this time I added some lacing to show how the kusazuri are suspended trom the do, as well as add some movement by changing the angle at which they hang.
After taking these photos, I did some work on the arms, and added a scabbard and obi (belt). I hope I can have those parts ready to share tonight. This first guy is taking a long time, but the next few should go faster now that I have a sense of what I need to do.
Wow, people are finishing with amazing pieces already and I haven't even started. The current plan is to paint up all my remaining Dark Angels with plasma cannons from Dark Vengence, but I'm missing a few pieces and having trouble finding my molds for them. So I may end up changing.
What a fun model. I really like the cape and the colors you've worked in there. I haven't started my entry yet, but I might have to steal the idea and try something like it. Very inspiring.
I do have some Marines ready to go, but am mostly working right now on Tau stuff for an upcoming game.
Time will tell.

I hope you don't mind, but Brother Quiff has swept me so off my feet that I now decided to paint my one off Space Marine as a Crimson Fists! He is ready to die to provide the dye
Do you hear the miniaturists sing?
Singing the song of angry painters?

Echoes the beating of the drums
There is art about to start

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Beyond those Space Marines
Are there other models you long to see?

Great models this month, especially Daia T'Nara's
I will make model "Ancestor's wrath", which is a fancy name for Votann commander. Fits a space marine theme as infantry soldier transported on a spaceship. Proof picture:
Base coated the legs to prepare to shade the armour plates before gluing the torso/tabard piece in place. Also began painting the tabard area to make sure any hard to access items are already sorted before being glued in place, but wont do the upper power armour yet as the glue will mess up the paint anyway.
I’m not going to lie, I am very much enjoying the process this month. I always do, but so far this model is going very well indeed.
In fact, I have to be honest, I think this could be the best thing I have painted yet in the hobby. Obviously that is my subjective view, we’ll see what the voters make of it soon enough.
All that said, I am now very nervous. I am toying with doing some OSL… but genuinely worried about messing it all up.
I may take photos before I try… and then after if successful. I suppose if my final pics include no OSL… well you’ll all know what happened, and I’ll know you all know what happened, but we won’t talk of it.

Say no more, say no more.
On a completely unrelated note:
That hesitation is real. It can be hard to take a model that looks good and try something else. But, that is part of the beauty of this hobby. Everything you try makes you better, even if it turns out badly you still gain experience and practice. Plus, short of grinding the model to dust in a blender, or dissolving it in acid, there really isn't ever something you can't come back from. It's basically impossible to complete ruin a model forever just using paint.
Trust yourself, document with photos, learn, and it will all work out.

Haha, man I appreciate the moral support! Honestly I am genuinely apprehensive about attempting OSL on this model because it is by nature going to have to be VERY bright to create the right reflections I’m looking to achieve.
Ah well, who dares wins and all that.
Cheers for having my corner though man! Don’t laugh too hard when my model appears this month with not a sign of any OSL (cough… I um… never attempted it see)

I'm leaning into the shiny rather than the traditional edge highlights. It works in some spots, not so well in others. In previous iterations of the Samurai Marines, I hand painted the lacing on the kusazuri and sode, but it didn't look right to my much older eyes. I went back and sculpted the lacing where appropriate, and it looks better. Obviously, it would have been much easier and much neater to add it to the plasticard before assembly, and I'll likely do that with the next batch.
Well, no point hesitating, I’ve gone as far as I am going to go with this mini and I feel pleased with the result.
Really enjoyed the process with this one, I was very very apprehensive about trying the OSL but I think I managed it ok. It is so weird taking bright titanium white and painting over work you are extremely pleased with… but… I am happy I went ahead.
So here he is… my Dark Angel launching into his offensive, ready to crush all who stand opposed.

I already know who's getting a special comment in the vote thread from me seeing this beauty. It really impressed me.
Wow! Thanks! I was hoping people think I’ve managed to pull off the effect. I’ve got to admit I am pretty proud of this one. I think it’s my favorite so far on my hobby journey. I know I keep saying it but I can’t describe the dread I was feeling when I loaded up that brush with white paint man! I just had visions of a total disaster! Lol

I think you pulled it off quite well. I'm going to be doing something similar with my Primaris Inceptors when I get to them (they're sitting somewhere in my backlog). BTW, where'd you get the smoke? Is it 3D printed? I bought something similar for the Primaris Inceptors from Etsy awhile back.

Thanks! I figured the addition of a deep red at the edges of the fluorescents helped clean it all up in the end. It’s the placement of the reflections and trying to get it to look soft enough that is tricky. To be honest I have literally no idea if the reflections actually are in the right place; I just kind of went with what felt right.
The smoke was from some dude on Etsy UK. If you search Etsy or even google it several options will pop up. I went with the prints as the default ‘falling off a rock’ look on the original sculpt was… bad. It was very bad.

I also crushed something btw, one of the arms of my dreadnorkght :l
Well, not as in that I broke it off or anything.. but I got so tired of the bits coming off due to it being unglued for movement etc that eventually I just decided to glue it.. but now I'm looking at it unsatisfied thinking its not Orky in any way. I contemplated taking off all the fingers but that would be a shame for such a cool arm I can still use for other projs in the future.. but really want to put something else there that's actually fitting. I've seen a few imges of other Orky Dreadnaught kitbashes having strange Orky arms so that does inspire..
Will add more work.. and probably won't even get to getting at it before thursday evening as I've got a special dentist appointment to extract.
Atleast that will take a lot of stress off my back when thats finally done. (no its not a hurting tooth, just a dead one I want gone because its unsalvagable and had 3 root canals in it and want to prevent more issues in the future)
Time has gotten away from me so far this month, I will have to make a start shortly.
I have a little box of ebay mini's that need a bubble bath, these three are the most clean /ready to go so I think I will pick one of these guys to save a little time, not sure which yet.
Slightly put off by the amount of detail that are on the chaos mini's so we will have to see, might as well prime them all and see how things go, I have also been wanting to try out painting an Imperial Fist hmmmm
The clear choice is a re-imagining of the ending of dirty dancing, no one puts baby in the corner.
@XvArcanevX: The reflected light on the cloak and jump jets is superlative. You're really bringing your A-game this month.
Another samurai marine mostly finished:
I'm pretty happy with the color of the armor. Sengoku-era armor was mostly black lacquer, but a dark rusty color was also quite common. I've been trying off and on for years to achieve the effect, and I think I succeeded with this dude. After seeing these photos, I went back and smoothed out the spot highlights and re-painted the helmet decoration. The arms are a little awkward, and would probably have benefitted from some cutting and repositioning.
Nilfisken wrote: Really cool fire to smoke effect on the captain XvArcanveX, and the OSL looks great! What colours did you use for the yellow and orange?
Cheers! The colors I used for the yellow and orange were the AK 3rd generation fluorescents in this set:
Couldn't help but pimp-out my new arm (actually the shoulderpad on the elbow isn't on it, forgot to take that tryout off.. ignore it)
After photographing did some more work on it though but you all will have to wait!

No more wips!
Really!!
Looking good!
Here are the last two Samurai Marines, assembled and ready for painting.
I've hardly started my Raven Guard, all I've done is got a (semi) solid basecoat of matte black down on a few models and some dark leather colours started...
Random ideas for April: "A Heroic Journey" and "It's party time!"
I got ten minutes of painting spread over the last week, and most of it wasn't even on the Marine. I think you'll have to write a sternly worded letter to real life on my behalf and tell it to stop bothering me. I can't work like this.
Bright side, I'm halfway there. Lots of details left to paint, but all the base colors and washes are on the model.
Nevelon wrote: Also toss out any ideas for April that are kicking around your head.
Cuddly and Fluffy. Because Easter bunnies and stuff.
Going to work on my entry this weekend, not sure If I will get both finished, I'm going to try and paint an imperial fist first and see how that goes, then If enough time is left I will paint up a chaos friend for him to have a cup of tea with.
Been bedridden 2 days, feel a lot better now although the jaw still hurts too (after tooth extraction)
Have done a little bit of work on the Orkynought, basecoating the new orky tingz attached.
Will probably get to it again later today.
I'm sure half a month is enough.

I've had this idea in my head for a couple of weeks: All out of bubblegum, for the minis who aren't jacks of all trades who can pitch in wherever they're needed, they're here to do one thing (and chew bubblegum, but see above). They'll lie prone with their sniper rifle for five weeks to get the one perfect shot, they'll keep shouting coordinates into their radio even while the enemy's charging into melee range, they've got a chainaxe and every single other thing on the battlefield is a skull to put it into - it could cover any kind of specialist (because I haven't actually got an ideal candidate unpainted myself, so I need the loophole), but what I'm thinking of are the ones with real unwavering (possibly insane) focus on that one task that, as long as they've got one unbroken bone and half a functioning organ in their body, they're gonna keep doing it.

So, “I’m here to [blank] and chew bubblegum, and I’m all outta bubblegum”?

Thanks, every bettership-wish does me good. Atleast the wound is starting to look better but it still hurts and makes it harder to fall asleep (and stay asleep)
Have been fasting during this too because I don't want to complicate things by getting food into the wound, been taking Q10 and royal jelly and making pumpkin soup with bone broth, will try to eat some mashed potatoes and carrots this evening. 4 days fasting is enough (did a 5 day waterfast before which was extremely boring but have been keeping myself busy binging the witcher series I still had on a usb and playing some fallout shelter).
As for the ontopic, been going at it with the Kantor blue and it looks awesome when painting it in such a way you leave enough rusty rustness around the edges and sometimes creeping in. Done one side on the upper body. When that's done will be adding some sponged metal scratches here and there and then probably some glued sand to add extra fallout-rust before I start with the detail.
am contemplating adding a nuke to the base because I have a dakka jet box I want to make into a wazbom which leaves such as spare parts.
p.s. @Daia: I'm for that idea, still have a Harlequin Solitaire to assemble and paint and it would be perfect for such a challenge.
Nothing is off the table at this point. I’ll figure out what the vote choices for April will be and put the poll up sometime midweek.
I like the concept of “all out of bubblegum” but worry that a lot of people won’t get the reference, and just be confused. We can defiantly work that into the long description, but would something like "dedicated specialist” or “focused” be better to get the spirit across?
I think “let’s finish this” is also a good call, as a lot of people have half finished projects that could use a nudge across the paintbench.
And anything not selected for this month just goes on the list for later.
Well, the month is half gone and I'm just now submitting a proof pic. This is going swimmingly, isn't it? Anyways, I'm entering some Infernus Marines:
Here's hoping these guys will be simple enough to actually finish in just two weeks. They should be, but I've been struggling with motivation lately (again, I know...). Here's hoping I can actually get them done.
Sorry ima need to hijack dis e're agin ladz..
couldn't help but make one final WIP picture just because I so love the way the Kantor looks on the rust, added more description to the wip pic;
Yesterday, I noticed that I had a) another ten days until the end of this challenge and b) a little pile of unused parts. I have decided to throw together one more model, in this case a sergeant. Proof pic:
Finished my base today, also varnished my "space marine" and will start doing the linework today or tomorrow.
Expect something higher-lvl than before. I'm really going all out on this one with some extra effort.
It's a good thing that I decided to take it easy and only paint a single model. Slow progress is slow and in no danger of speeding up. I'm not too far from completion, but four weeks for a lone Marine is kind of ridiculous.
KidCthulhu wrote: There's no way in hell I can get anything completed in time this month :(
That bites. Hope work/real life eases up on you again soon.
All rust is done and turned out better than I expected, will do linework today, also still need to do buttons/details, maybe paint some badly spelled orkish on the thing, dunno yet.
Next chal I will do a smaller piece though to get some free time to hopefully finally finish my 20 sisters of the watch for a change (still need to do all their bows and heads aghh.
My Votann champion is finally finished I was trying to learn the technique of shading with many layers of very thinned paint, and it is the first time I am happy with the result It is not perfect, but for me good enough.

Zenithal Highlight of Thallax Gold and Balthasar Gold. Main highlight is Retributor Gold and Stormhost silver and then a final highlight of only Stormhost Silver. I am really trying to figure a nice TMM method.

Ah I see. Never used Thallax Gold before but the others I know. Looks nice! I have started using a lot of ‘Decayed Metal’ by Scale 75 as a shade colour for tmm… worth a go if you’re looking for other paints to incorporate.
Running out of time people! Time to get the paint flowing.

Got the second blue down on one, still 2 more to go. Plus the edging and cleanup. and basing and decals. Going to be a tight month, might not finish all 3.

Yeah. One of these days I need to move away from citadel paint and try some other brands. They're just so readily available at the various FLGS that are around me.

Yeah some of the others really are worth looking at. Decayed Metal is amazing and the Vallejo Metal Colour steels, Aluminums and Silver are literally a huge leap in quality. I’d for sure recommend trying those..
I'm a bit late to the party, its been a busy month! I was tempted to join la revelution but bottled it so I have a space marine, and a couple of days to paint it.
Anybody got any opinion on the lighting? I have a hard time figuring out if the pictures came out too dark or if I'm just unused to photographing mostly black models.
It’s a little too dark to my eye. I find that it’s easier to photograph black models against a dark background so you can increase the contrast without making the background too bright.

I think its pretty readible, but you can always use natural lighting if anyone is ever blessed with a little sun.
It does seem a little dark, but it’s a dark model. Might be worth fussing with light and backgrounds; we have a little time left.

Done. For a bunch of push-fits, these guys were not that bad. Bit rushed at the end, I noticed a few things I’d like to touch up, but out of time, so done for now. And knowing me, forever; I rarely go back to things once they are off the bench.
These guys should wrap up the command element for my company. Only about a score more marines and that’s the battle company wrapped up. Again. Yes I’m crazy

Running out of month, but still have the weekend to go. At least for those not heading out to visit family for Easter/Spring Break.
Thanks for the input, guys! Kind of a bad weekend to experiment. I'll see if I have the opportunity to give it another shot. If not, I guess it's not an entirely terrible picture and I'll maybe give another Black Legionnaire a try if the right theme comes around.
Hi All, sry I've been a bit absent this month, work and life haven't been kind to my hobby time this month.
Heres a proof I took at the start of the month of some models I found in a random box and thought there were quite cool, no idea where I got them from. I had hoped to get a group of 5 done but that might be downgraded to 1 or 2, depending on what I can get done in the next 2 nights.
Life and wife have not been kind to my hobby time. I have basically only gotten a dark wash on my primed models. I appreciate Nevlon's kind offer of an extension, but I think I would rather sink or swim with the regular date.
The Crimson Fists Lieutenant is finally finished, my first Space Marine for over 25 years!
First time joining these competitions and it's been a great motivation to get back into painting after a few low months, looking forward to next month's challenge It's been really fun to see how other's projects evolved and I'm amazed at the speed some have gone from a pile of bits to completion.

Actually finished a bit ago, but didn't get around to pictures til now.
Did an Infinity model, ORC trooper with MULTI-HMG from the Varuna sectorial of Pan-Oceana. Figure a power armored trooper specialized in maritime combat from a water world probably falls under marines in space.

And finals:
High bars this month looks like, and impressive the size and speed some of these entries got done!
Well as per my annual protest, for Marine Month I painted Eldar Swooping Hawks.
Space Marine Killers.

Glad you're doing that, I may have family stuff going on for Easter so I'll likely need the extra time, but the good news is that with the extra time I should absolutely finish my models.

That's one of the legit mysteries of life, I had that happen with a one of a kind orc-head once.. dropped from my fingers and just evaporated out of the matrix to fight the machine lords.
Literally looked every-where for 2 hours straight for it, even in places it could only hypothetically have bounced to or behind out of optics, hiding and biding its time to strike.. but no.. its literally -no longer existing-.
Crazy..
Maybe using a fishing-magnet will help to attract the arm if there's a magnet attached and all?
All of the decals are from 1991 or earlier, I believe. From left to right we have:
Plastic terminator with heavy flamer from the 1st edition Space Hulk game.
Metal terminator sergeant sculpted by Jes Goodwin. This was in production for quite some time.
Metal prototype terminator sculpted by Jes Goodwin.
Metal prototype terminator sculpted (I'm pretty sure) by Jes Goodwin.
Metal prototype terminator sculpted by Bob Naismith. The three prototypes were released between 1988-89, IIRC.
Almost done, just a final wip, waiting on the base no2 drying (base no1 had a kitty related incident) so I can finish it off and need to tidy up and couple bits and then photo's, if I can find my transfers I will stick one on to finish him off.

Took almost everything out of the room, and was unable to find it. It is gone. Magnetizing was a mistake, it was a lot of effort for an unstable model that is flimsy in a hand.

That really sux man, hope it does travel back from hyperspace someday so you can reattach it, atleast its somewhat humorous to see the final lineup with the guy without the arm turned the other way to hide it. ;(
I'll never understand how dropped pieces can just zone out like a shinobi.

It's ok, the theme for this month allows the finishing of models we started previously.
Haha, yep! Although, I've already picked out two models from previous unfinished months to do... What's the model limit for this month? I probably have an entire army's worth of partially painted models...
I didn't get the 5 models done I had hoped to this month so made the choice to try and do one model well with the time I did have.
He turned out alright not fully finished, still needs a bit of touch up in some areas but I'm generally happy with him and how the freehand on the cloak turned out, also the face came out quite well too.

We are not raising the model limit for April, but do strongly encourage you to do as many as you can and pick the 5 best.
While I might play fast and loose with the rules, suspending 2 of the core ones for one month is a little much…

lol, I wasn't actually asking for the model limit to be raised! Just joking about the number of part painted models I have.
And here are a couple more. It's the middle of the night here, but I've finally finished TWO whole models! I'm not doing photography now, but here's a proof of completion pic. The two in the middle are finished, the two flanking are the ones I didn't manage to get done:
Some nice models coming in so far! I've managed to barely squeak in (talk about playing until the buzzer!), and have finished my five Dark Angels Infernus Marines:
I kind of rushed these models at the end, and it shows, but honestly they'll look just fine from typical tabletop viewing distance so I'm satisfied. The models are really cool; what's not to love about Space Marines carrying big flamethrowers to burn the enemies of the Imperium in holy fire? Nothing, that's what! Anyone who says otherwise IS A HERETIC AND MUST BE PURGED! I don't expect many votes, as like most of my entries the models just aren't "flashy" enough to attract attention, but at least I got something done, so mission accomplished!
