Greetings Dakka!
This thread will focus on Argatoria news, updates and discussion.
For good starters, a new release coming this Friday (Dec 13) is Skeletons Command Group for the Sheol-morg army led by Lord Necromancer. Here you can see a sculpted musician and a standard-bearer from this set.
And here it is finished, painted by Radek Bartnik.
Lord Necromancer is receiving a lot of new releases lately – Rotgant came first, sowing fear among the enemy Mages. His rules were released in 3 languages and are available in the product photo gallery – https://www.spellcrow.com/rotgant-p-1151.html
Previously, you would paint the Barbarians or Sozruits in rotten colours and deploy them as The Damned but, in the end, they got their own gruesome miniatures – https://www.spellcrow.com/the-damned-p-1152.html

What can you tell us about the rules?

Post by: Tathea
Argatoria is a rank & flank game, meaning you play with ranked units, a maximum of 4 bases per rank and up to 4 ranks (16 bases) in total. There are units which are single models, such as Giants and Elephantons. And also heroes like General, Champions, Command Groups and Mages that move on single round bases.
To keep it short about the rules:
1. You can play massive tactical games because the minis are in a 10 mm scale
2. There are only 8 pages of basic rules
3. Units in both armies are activated alternately – you roll 2d6 and the lower score indicates the number of units you must activate
4. A player can boost their units with prayers
5. The lower you roll, the better (except for initiative test, charge and move distances) – for example, when your unit has Weapon Skill 3, you need to roll 3 or less to hit
5. Heroes don't have statlines and don't fight on their own – their task is to support friendly units. Heroes are activated in a separate phase called "Heroes actions".
6. In Purple Warlock Magazine, there are different battle scenarios but the game's basic concept is to gain Blood Points – more than the opponent, or their specified number. Each base in the game, regardless whether it's an ordinary infantry base or a Forest Dragon, is worth 1 Blood Point. This concept is surprising to some people and they are wondering if it may even work. But when they play a game or two, they quickly realise it works and brings a lot of fun.
7. The game takes place in a world of barbarians – it's focused on combat and maneuvering with units, there's no shooting
Here's an official intro game if you wanna check how the game plays in its basic form: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP2i2asW-e4

Yeah, that's right. Several Argatoria players called it a "heroic 10mm". The characteristic feature is that their hands, heads and feet are made slightly bigger, muscles and other details more protruding

Looks good! I'd probably recommend editing the first post to include missing important details/questions/answers that pop up in the thread (like for example the scale of the minis). It might also help to just post a pic of a "human" sized fig next to a metric ruler as well. Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing more!

No missile weaponry or spells at all? Just melee and support stuff?

There are magic spells and ranged abilities and they are a very important part of the game, but units are mainly combat-focused (none with shooting/missile weapons)

Hey folks! Here's the latest skelly release – Skeletons Command Group for the Lord Necromancer's Sheol morg army.
On another note, in the photo below you can see a size comparison of a 10 mm Liagulian Warrior ( human-sized) and an Orc hero. 📏 Argatoria miniatures differ in size – Amazons and Liagulians have exactly 10 mm to the eyes, but the Barbarians were always supposed to be more muscular and bigger, same with Reptilians and Horned Warriors, so they have roughly ~11 mm to the eyes. Standard Orcs are also bigger, measuring 12 mm from the feet to the eyes, but their heroes, as you can see in the photo, are even greater.
People often ask what scale the Argatoria models are – it's a 10 mm scale but many races in Argatoria are larger than humans and they differ in size between each other, sometimes quite significantly.
In this case, a term " 10 mm heroic fantasy" suits Argatoria perfectly

If you're asking about the Black Knights on Horgars, yes, they are undead. There's also another undead cavalry – Truhlaks on Fallen Ogars (Truhlaks are Skeletons). Photos below for reference which is which

Welcome our Dear Customers & Fans of our games!
The time has come for a summary of 2024. Thank you for another exciting year together! We are glad that so many of you have taken an interest in Argatoria Wargame and purchased army starters. April 2025 will mark 2 years since the release of the English rulebook. During this time, two additional armies were released – Sheol-morg and Gaeldor.
Forces of Sheol-morg, the Dark Empire from the north
Forces of Gaeldor, the barbarian tribe of the Agalloch Forest
Both armies have been introduced in Purple Warlock Issue 2 along with lore, new magic spells, magic banners and additional rules. (On a side note, Purple Warlock Issue 2 is now sold out. Thank you very much for your enthusiastic response!)
This was followed by Purple Warlock Issue 3 which gave you an access to 12 new battle scenarios and new terrain rules.
In the meantime, the Competitive Rules were developed along with special scenarios and scoring, enriching Argatoria tournaments and leagues. It led to the creation of Downloads & FAQs tab on our website, where you can find the aforementioned rules, erratas and FAQs – https://www.spellcrow.com/downloads-faqs-pm-49.html
Not to mention a premiere of the German rulebook earlier this year. The German community of Argatoria players has been growing steadily ever since, showcasing the progress on their armies, building their battlefields and hosting demos during the conventions!
A significant amount of new units and heroes were brought to life by our devoted team of sculptors throughout this time. There is still Marmydon left to release, which we should deal with in the first quarter of 2025. We concluded that the Gaeldor army has so many released units and is such a rich and diverse army that delaying the release of Marmydon will not do it much harm. Points-wise, this is the most expensive model in Argatoria and can only be fielded from 1000 army points. We assumed that Gaeldor players who are just starting their adventure with Argatoria will not need it in the initial period of their games.
It was much more important for us to introduce something fresh, tweaking each army with a little add-on. We began releasing legendary heroes, starting with Mar’hauk for the Gaeldor army.
Shortly thereafter, the Vaendral and Sorgax players could get their hands on their own wonderful heroes – the great warrior Valeria ( Vaendral) and the terrifying shaman Kor’quixos ( Sorgax).
Later, each army that can field Half-giants ( Dirandis, Vaendral, Gaeldor) gained support from Pakun, the Half-giant hero mounting a bulky creature called Oklar.
We have started introducing units and heroes for the Sheol-morg army led by the Lord Necromancer – Mementors, Gnils and Ghosts will be released soon. By now, Lord Necromancer and his relentless hordes of Truhlaks have already gained crucial support from dedicated Command Groups, Champions and a legendary hero – Gnat. The Damned became more gruesome than ever with their own models and, moreover, the undead army can be accompanied by a deadly Rotgant. We also plan to introduce new units for each of the 6 armies in 2025. When the time comes, we will start informing you what units and when.
The undead all together – Gnat, Champions, Command Groups, Truhlaks, The Damned and Rotgant
On top of all that our Development Studio is working on the Orcs army and although we initially wanted it to be released by the end of 2024 in the Kickstarter campaign, we have to delay the release of the army a bit. The Orcs Army Starter will be released in the 1st quarter of 2025. During this time, other legendary heroes will also join the battles – one for Arox and one for Sheol-morg under the command of Lord of Sheol-morg. The Dirandis hero is expected to premiere later (or at the same time if the Old Gods allow).
Another great news is that Purple Warlock Issue 4 is drawing near! The next issue of the magazine was supposed to be released by the end of 2024, but due to the amount of work, we are preparing it for February or March 2025. It will contain the updated army lists of all armies, lore and rules of legendary heroes and units whose rules have been presented on the website so far, including Knuroses, Skaals and new units for the Lord Necromancer, as well as Orcs army list and lore.
Skaals – Mercenary Unit for Dirandis and Gaeldor
Knuroses – Mercenary Unit for Vaendral and Arox
The new year 2025 will bring a lot of joy to all fans of both Argatoria 10 mm scale range, as well as Umbra Turris 28/32 mm scale range ( check Umbra Turris News & Updates in News & Rumors for more info). We can’t wait to share with you more news, see your painted armies, played games and, most importantly, give you more miniatures!
The whole Spellcrow Team wishes you a Happy New Year playing, partying, chilling, eating or anything you’ve planned for the New Year’s Eve!

Generally speaking, the Undead models really grab me. If there were identical 28mm scale ones, I would buy models in both scale/sizes for use in my miniature-based comic, Big Fantasy Epic.

Today, I'm coming to you with ☠ NEW MINIATURES ☠ Another unit for the Sheol-morg army led by the Lord Necromancer premiered last Friday.
Who are the Mementors? They are great heroes, generals and champions who had fallen in the battles of the past and they have been summoned back by the Lord Necromancer to fight in his army.
The Champion of Catacombs (from the Skeletons Champions set) allows you to deploy them in your army as Rare Units.
This will be surely one of the best units among the Lord Necromancer's forces, possessing very unique rules. Having mentioned the rules, they will be out this week.
The miniatures were sculpted by Marek Rurarz and painted by Radek Bartnik.

Hi folks, today you can get a sneak peek at another upcoming Legendary Hero for Argatoria! ⚔
Xan'toag will join the Arox army, providing it with special rules related to supporting the units. The base with Liagulians carrying a large mace will serve this purpose. The most important task of Xan'toag is, however, supporting the Ropuchons who are granted additional rules thanks to his unmatching guidance.
Apart from this, exciting news have shown up for the Lord Necromancer's Sheol-morg army players: the rules of Mementors will premiere today! 💀

Good afternoon! I'm bringing the exciting news today But first, take a look at this amazing army of Lord Necromancer here:
The last from the announced units for the Lord Necromancer's Sheol-morg army is out now! It means that Lord Necromancer has got everything he needs to wreak havoc and bring destruction: from lots of bones through lots of rotten flesh to no flesh and bones at all.
The new unit of Ghosts can be fielded only as a full horde and it will ignore the rules of Marauders, so it is available as a Full Unit only: https://www.spellcrow.com/ghosts-full-unit-p-1186.html
Remember that you can field Ghosts only when you field the Champion of Graves in your army (from the Skeletons Champions set).
This is a mixed set of miniatures from different armies that are painted as Ghosts – you will find the exact contents of the set and the Ghosts' colour scheme in the product description.
The rules of Ghosts will premiere next week!

Hi everyone!
Today, I'm sharing with you the Sasquatches Tactics, as well as The Sanctified Tactics shared as part of Tactical Tuesday Sasquatches are a part of the Dirandis army (barbarians), while The Sanctified are elite warriors of the Arox army (reptilians).
__________
What is Tactical Tuesday?
Every Tuesday, we deliver the recommended tactics for one of the units in Argatoria. They are made available in the product description of the given unit at spellcrow.com.
__________
Sasquatches rely heavily on their Ambush rule which allows them to make a free move before the battle and cancel all charge and independent bonuses when attacked by the enemy. It means that their proper deployment before the battle is crucial. A recommended unit size for the Sasquatches is 4-8 bases, and consider having at least two such units. Use them as a bait for numerous enemy units, especially Hordes, and as a unit blocking the enemy's move or charge path to your more numerous units. The specific tactics of the Sasquatches mean that the best you can do is having them less numerous, as it means less Blood Points for the opponent. Keep in mind that if the enemy unit is powerful enough and supported by a hero, it is still able to defeat one rank of Sasquatches even without charge bonuses. Two ranks will have a better chance to lock the enemy in combat for a little longer, giving you the time to charge that enemy with your other, more powerful unit that you should keep close to the Sasquatches.
With Weapon Skill 2 and Strength 5, Sasquatches are likely to wound the enemy in combat, but they will struggle getting a satisfying number of hits. When you add to it their Leadership 5 and no special rules boosting them in combat, there is not much field for improvement. Thus try not to waste your valuable pool of prayers on them. Always focus on their most important strategic role on the battlefield – blocking the enemy and making them fall into an ambush.
Sasquatches Tactics are also available in their product description: https://www.spellcrow.com/sasquatches-p-813.html
__________
Consider fielding The Sanctified as a full horde to maximise both their great offensive and defensive potential. The Fierce rule allows them to roll additional two dice for wounding for each obtained 1 in the Wound Test, so the more dice they roll for attack and the more re-roll options they get, the more deadly they become. Try boosting the Fierce rule as much as possible. Attach one of the Champions to get +4 attacks to the pool – if it’s the Champion of Gods, he will also give them the chance to re-roll all failed scores during the Weapon Skill Test or the Wound Test. Always pray with them, because they have a better chance for success thanks to the Faithful rule. Focus on the prayers for Fortune or Strength to increase the chance of adding more dice to the Wound Test (with possible 1s). Avoid praying for Agility unless necessary – keep a Command Group, the Mystic of the Reborn or the Champion of Nature close to them instead to make sure they charge successfully.
The perfect target for the full horde of The Sanctified is not an enemy full horde (although it can be) but rather a unit of 8-12 bases. If it’s a small horde of 12 bases, try removing at least 1 base from it through magic spells, items or other abilities to make them lose a Horde rule before attempting to engage in combat with them – if The Sanctified are somehow charged first by such a unit, that unit will not get the charge bonuses, because it is not a Horde anymore. And even if the enemy gets The Sanctified first, you may still count on their Gold Armour!
The Sanctified Tactics are also available in their product description: https://www.spellcrow.com/the-sanctified-p-930.html

Hey! I'm sharing with you this week's Sheol-morg Champions Tactics shared on Tactical Tuesday.
First, there is a brief introduction to the general Champions Tactics for any Argatoria army you play, followed by the tactical advice for all 3 basic Sheol-morg Champions.
__________
Champions Tactics
Champions in Argatoria play a crucial role in supporting the friendly units with special abilities and effects. It is worth considering which particular units your Champions will support and which can be left alone, as it may tip the tide of victory.
Avoid attaching a Champion to a one-rank unit unless you are sure you are likely to quickly defeat the enemy unit you are planning to attack (for example, when your target is also a one-rank unit). Otherwise, if you remain locked in combat, you may become a charge target for other enemy units.
Any one-rank unit in Argatoria is rather easy to destroy if the opponent attacks with a more numerous unit, so you put your Champion’s life at risk. There might be exceptions when such a risk is worth it, as it depends on a given Champion, but still, if the Champion fails his ability roll, your master plan may go to shreds. Keep in mind that all Champions can be defeated upon base contact with the enemy units and, if that happens, you will not be able to use their abilities anymore. As a general rule, it is safer to attach the Champions to at least two-rank units.
Remember that the point of contact between your Champion and a friendly unit will have to remain the same once you move that unit with that Champion. Be careful not to attach the Champion to an edge that can be easily charged by an opponent, risking base contact between the Champion and the enemy that may lead to the Champion’s death.
__________
Sheol-morg Champions Tactics
Champion of Dark Gods
When attached to a friendly unit engaged in combat, the Champion of Dark Gods may force the enemy unit to re-roll all successful scores in the Weapon Skill Test or the Wound Test. He also provides the unit with 5 additional attacks instead of 4.
Attach this Champion to the Horned Warriors or Black Knights on Horgars to significantly boost their defence – they already have protection thanks to the Heavy Armour rule, but with such additional support, they can stay on the battlefield for even longer. Attach this Champion to the Hordes – if an enemy unit that is not a Horde charges your Horde, it will not only lose the charge bonuses (as a result of the Horde rule), but may also have to re-roll all successful hits or wounds thanks to the support from the Champion of Dark Gods. Don’t waste this Champion on small units – as tempting it may be not to let your one-rank unit die, remember that if the Champion of Dark Gods fails to activate his rule, the unit can be destroyed and the Champion too.
Champion of Gehenna
When attached to a friendly unit engaged in combat, the Champion of Gehenna may increase one of that unit’s stat values (except for W) by 1 until the end of the cycle. The safest and most common option is increasing Weapon Skill (to hit better), Strength (to wound better) or Attacks (to add more dice to the pool of attacks).
However, another interesting way to use this ability is increasing the Leadership to have a higher chance for a successful prayer – then you could, for example, pray for Fortune and re-roll all failed scores in the WS Test. Some players prefer one roll with a higher chance, while some prefer to have a chance to repeat the roll. It is your call but remember – in the case of a +1 to LD, you still need to pass the Prayer Test, while +1 to WS, S or A is a simple bonus that does not require any further tests.
Champion of Gehenna seems like a good choice for most Sheol-morg units. Use him to boost units with average stats, for example WS 3, to increase it to 4. Think twice if you want to support the units like Black Knights on Horgars – this unit already has a high chance to pray, hit and wound successfully. Sure, you could improve it even more, but always think if it is worth putting all eggs in one basket.
Champion of Hordes
When attached to a friendly unit engaged in combat, the Champion of Hordes allows that unit to re-roll all failed scores in the Weapon Skill Test if it’s a Horde, or to gain/regain the Horde rule if it’s not a Horde. This is an incredibly versatile Champion who will be a great support for any Sheol-morg unit, regardless of its power or a number of bases.
Attach this Champion to a Horde and you will get the same effect as if you successfully prayed for Fortune (the prayer for Fortune allows the unit to re-roll all failed scores in the Weapon Skill Test) – if that unit has a nice LD value of 7 or more, it can also pray for Fortune to double the re-roll in the Weapon Skill Test or pray for something else. Attach this Champion to a non-Horde unit and you may obtain a Horde rule, cancelling the charge bonuses of the enemy – some of the best units for that purpose would be smaller units of Horned Warriors and Black Knights on Horgars which have even higher chances for survival with their Heavy Armour rule (armour save on 2 or less), as well as Hybrids who get more attack dice to the pool thanks to the Spasms rule when they are a Horde.

Hello everyone! There was an announcement shared lately regarding the new stuff for Argatoria. We are bringing another bunch of interesting news about Argatoria for you. A lot is changing – we are developing new models, which you can see on our social media, as well as on Argatoria reddit (r/argatoria). We are working on the new rules for heroes and units, which means that Argatoria is expanding greatly.
We are currently finishing the English and German versions of the Argatoria Compendium. We want the Compendium to be available in all current language versions. This is a time-consuming process, but we are doing our best to deliver this extensive publication to your hands as soon as possible.
The Compendium collects together everything that has been created so far apart from the content of the core rulebook, including lore and the current rules for the Gaeldor and Sheol-morg armies, Mercenary Units, Legendary Heroes, as well as new units and heroes for the Lord Necromancer’s Sheol-morg army. It will also include all unpublished additions, such as new magic items, artefacts, magic banners and a large list of new spells. At the same time, together with the Compendium, we will bring you a PDF rulebook with all the fixes and updates included in all 3 languages.
Those of you who placed orders and received Mystery Boxes had a chance to receive Orc models in them. Thanks to the Mystery Boxes, you have a chance to receive pre-release models. We also encourage you to take part in our giveaways on Facebook and Instagram, as well as to subscribe to our free newsletter (at the bottom of the spellcrow.com homepage), where you can count on interesting coupons, offers, news and workshop updates.
Later this month, there will be an info about the planned release date of the Argatoria Compendium!

Now to the more regular stuff Today, you will learn about the tactics of the Liagulians and how to handle them in the Arox reptilian army.
The core unit of each Arox army are The Chosen, commonly known as Liagulians, warriors who always attack with two ranks instead of one thanks to their spears. Always consider having units of at least two ranks to benefit from this rule, but with their low cost of 9 pts/base, you can absolutely go for Hordes. If you field a Horde, always field the Champion of Gods as well and consider him their key support. They pray better thanks to the Faithful rule, so always pray with them to increase their chances in combat.
Although Liagulians feel much better in Hordes, you can also treat them as supplementary units, not core. If you choose this path, you can deploy them in single ranks, accepting the fact that they will not benefit from the Spear Storm rule and saving some points for more elite and skilled units. Having mentioned it, Liagulians are the cheapest 'bait' units you can have in your army, so one Horde accompanied by a few single ranks (or two-rank units if you want to use the Spear Storm rule) is probably the best way to go.
Avoid attacking units with armour or protection, especially the better one (granting a 2 or less save) – taking into account the lower than usual Weapon Skill 2 of the Liagulians, it is worth making sure that any successful hits and wounds they manage to get will result in immediate destruction of the enemy bases.

Hi everyone! On this Tactical Tuesday, we are taking a look at a devastating force of the Dirandis barbarian army — a cavalry of Riders on Gridons. 🌩 Besides, below the tactics, I included the links to a nice giveaway where you can win Forest Dragon or Hydra, according to your choice. The first creature can be fielded in the Gaeldor army, while the latter in the Sheol-morg army. You can join the giveaway on Instagram or Facebook.
__________
⚔️ Riders on Gridons Tactics ⚔️
Riders on Gridons will do extremely well in a Horde. Deploy them in a unit of 16 bases to take full advantage of their Fierce Assault rule which grants them +2 attacks for each full rank when charging. A horde of cavalry can be tricky to manouvre, as it is bigger than a regular infantry unit, so be careful when near terrain and try not to block their movement with your other units. A +1 to WS when charging increases their ability to absolutely devastate the enemy units. However, both rules that the Riders have are active during a charge only – it means that you must do everything in your power to charge the enemy first and avoid being charged, especially by more numerous units, because you will stuck.
A Horde of Riders on Gridons should naturally target numerous enemy units instead of those with one or two ranks (unless there is no major threat nearby and this is just a good occasion to score some Blood Points for your army). You should use the Marauder unit deployed thanks to the 16-base Horde to charge the enemy units and position them in a way that your Horde of Riders on Gridons will be able to assault the enemy's flank or even rear. A good cooperation between the Marauder unit and the Horde can lower the risk of a failed charge or other unfortunate events and bring your Dirandis army closer to the victory.
A Horde of Riders on Gridons should always pray. Their LD 6 is not so impressive, but – as Elite Units in a Dirandis army – they have a re-roll of the failed Prayer Test thanks to the army special rule. Most often, they will pray to re-roll failed hits (Fortune), but there will be situations in the game, where they might need to boost their move or charge rate (Agility) instead. Riders on Gridons do not necessarily need a Champion attached to them, but you can attach one of the Champions anyway if there is no other friendly unit in bigger need.

Hi folks
Welcome in the March 2025 Wrap-Up & News! We are getting close to the end of the 1st quarter of 2025, so let’s take a quick look at the previous release plans and what happened in the meantime.
All the announced units for the Lord Necromancer’s Sheol-morg army have been successfully released. The Legendary Heroes for the Arox and Sheol-morg armies are ready to join great battles of Argatoria. Xan’toag, the hero of the Arox tribe, premiered on March 14th and he will be followed by Myrnos, the hero of the Sheol-morg army under the command of the Lord of Sheol-morg, who will be released on Friday, March 28th.
Now, it is the time for the likely most anticipated update – the Argatoria Compendium!
Many of you would really love to see the rules of the upcoming Orcs army in the announced Argatoria Compendium. After giving it a thought, we decided that it will be indeed better for the game. Thus, in the end, Argatoria Compendium will contain the lore along with the full army list of the Orcs, and it will premiere in the Argatoria Orcs Kickstarter campaign. Due to the changes and time-consuming preparations, the campaign has been postponed – it is set to launch in May 2025. The pre-launch page will be ready at the end of March or the beginning of April.
Argatoria Compendium, as we briefly mentioned before, will not only collect the content from Issue 2 and Issue 3 of Purple Warlock magazine, but also introduce a lot of new stuff. The section with terrain rules has been improved and slightly enlarged – because of that, you will be able to get amazing new terrain pieces for Argatoria in the same KS campaign!
We have also acknowledged that there will be more magic banners. Now, we can also tell you that, among them, you will find army banners and such that will allow you to field special units. But it’s not all. Thanks to some of the banners, you might be able to change the organisation of your army roster!
The next exciting news & updates regarding the Argatoria Orcs KS campaign and the Argatoria Compendium shortly!

Now, let's smoothly switch to this week's Tactical Tuesday which focuses on Forgon – a single model for the reptilian armies of Arox and Sorgax. What's his likely best use in battle? You will learn just now.
The Forgon's ability forces the Panic Tests – it will be useless against the enemy units and single models with Fearless. Therefore, it is important to deploy a Forgon reasonably. The ability's range is not that large (20 cm), making the Forgon very vulnerable to the enemy charges. The greatest advantage of the Living Catapult ability is that it can be activated once per cycle, at any point, so even during the opponent's actions – it does not specifically require removing a Forgon's Action Die or taking a particular action with it. It also does not require a clear path, meaning the target can be behind another unit or even completely obscured by terrain – the only condition is that the target cannot be engaged in combat.
All this makes the Forgon an ideal threat to the enemy units charging at the other Arox units or the Forgon itself. Keep the Forgon slightly behind your other units. When the enemy unit declares the charge and start moving toward the charge target, stop it in place once it's within 20 cm of the Forgon before it reaches the base contact. If you successfully activate the Living Catapult ability, the opponent may lose even up to 3 bases and potentially lose contact with the attached hero if there was one!
Avoid using the Living Catapult against the enemy units that are within 5 cm of their Command Groups, as they will re-roll the failed Panic Tests, decreasing the effectiveness of this ability. Remember that the Forgon with its 5 Wounds is likely to die quickly if the enemy charges it, so plan out its movement carefully. Another option, however, is to use it as a bait and a blocker for the larger enemy units – it will cost you only 1 Blood Point anyway if the Forgon dies, but you may gain significant tactical advantage.

Hello!
Today, I'm bringing the latest tactics shared as a part of Tactical Tuesday.
The first tactics describe how to use the Trygodrons, a feral cavalry unit from the Arox reptilian army, while the second unveils the secret of fighting battles with the Hybrids from the Sheol-morg army.
There's a special discount for Hybrids and Hybrids Full Unit at https://www.spellcrow.com/ only for 36 hours from now!
The Arox army is proud of its mighty cavalry that tears the enemies apart. Charges of the Trygodrons can be devastating, as their Weapon Skill increases from 2 to 4 plus they are incredibly strong. Thanks to their better Mobility, they are potentially dangerous to the enemy one-rank units deployed on the flanks, or any other enemies who separated from the rest of the army.
Trygodrons should secure the flanks and not let the small enemy units distract your main forces. The best case scenario is when the Trygodrons' target is less numerous and has Toughness 3 or lower to allow you to add 3 or more dice to the Wound Test for the difference between its Toughness and the Trygodrons' Strength of 6 when charging.
A single rank of Trygodrons might have a hard time attempting to destroy an enemy single rank, as it depends on their roll and how many 1s they get in the WS Test. With only 10 dice during a charge, 8 of which are necessary to defeat the enemy, you will need a lot of luck. Therefore, consider deploying at least a two-rank unit to add more dice to the attack pool. Optionally, you can attach a Champion to add further 4 dice.
Hybrids are a truly powerful force in the Sheol-morg army thanks to their Spasms rule which grants them bonus attacks before combat. The unit size may vary from one rank to a Horde – this is up to you to decide. You can make the Hybrids an additional support in a form of two one-rank or two-rank units that will weaken the big enemy units, or decide that they will be one of your crucial strike forces and field them as a Horde.
If you field them as a Horde, standard charge (or fight) bonuses and the bonuses from the Spasms will combine and surely bring havoc in the enemy ranks. With Strength 5, Hybrids are capable of devastating the opponent even when they are not charging, but still, you have to remember about their average Weapon Skill 3. Attach the Champion of Gehenna to the Hybrids to increase their Weapon Skill from 3 to 4 and give them further +4 attacks for the attached Champion. If you field a non-Horde unit of Hybrids, you may also consider attaching the Champion of Hordes to them in order to test his ability and potentially make them gain the Horde rule – it will give them more bonus attacks from the Spasms.
Regardless whether your Hybrids unit is a Horde or not, feel free to target bigger enemy units, especially Hordes, as the number of attacks the Hybrids are able to generate allows them to significantly weaken more numerous foes. The cancellation of charge bonuses from charging at a Horde (in case Hybrids that are not a Horde charged at a Horde) will not affect their bonus attacks from the Spasms, so they are still able to deal a lot of damage. A nice target for the Hybrids are cavalry units and other with more than 2 Wounds per base. If you roll a high score on a d6 for the Spasms, they might easily swipe a one rank of cavalry off the table.

Hi folks!
Here's a bunch of news regarding the army of Orcs – Er'Sael – coming soon on Kickstarter.
First of all, the contents of the Er'Sael Army Starter have been revealed! You can see them all in the photo above.
Your adventure with Er'Sael will begin with:
3 ranks of Orcs Warriors called The Fangs – Basic Unit
3 ranks of Orcs Rogues – Elite Unit
2 ranks of Nerh, the Black Orcs – Rare Unit
1 rank of Priests of Sael – Unique Unit
1 Orcs Warriors Command Group set
Follow Spellcrow profile on Kickstarter to get notified when the pre-launch page for the Er'Sael army is up: https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/spellcrow

The Er'Sael army has a unique predisposition for magic. It is reflected not only in the army special rule, but also some of the particular units. The Priests of Sael (on the left) deserve special attention – it is, without question, one of the best units in the army, not only in terms of combat effectiveness and statline, but also their extreme devotion which supports them greatly when praying. The Priests of Sael, unlike other infantry units, are placed on 25 mm square bases because of their muscularity and flowing cloaks.
Here's also the first preview of the Legendary Orc Hero (on the right) for the army. This mysterious mage hiding his face behind a reptile mask will premiere in Argatoria Compendium on Kickstarter along with the whole clan!

Hey. Here's an example of how you can resolve charges thanks to single-rank cavalry in Argatoria in the similar scenario as following. (Published as part of Tactical Tuesday)
1 – The starting position of the units of both sides. On one side, a single rank of Wild Creatures (A) and a horde of Barbarians (B) from the Gaeldor army. Against them, a two-rank unit of Knuroses (C) and a horde of Orcs Warriors (D) from the Er’Sael army.
It is the Gaeldor player’s turn to activate 2 of their units.
2 – If the Gaeldor player activates the Wild Creatures first and attempt to charge at the horde of Orcs, it is much more likely to succeed thanks to this unit’s increased Mobility.
Before the charge, it is worth turning the Wild Creatures in a way that the point of contact between them and the Orcs will allow the Wild Creatures to position the foe conveniently for the awaiting horde of Barbarians.
After turning the Wild Creatures, the distance between the closest points of both units is 19 cm, while the charge path is shown with the red line, ending at the point of contact.
The Wild Creatures with their Mobility 15 need at least a score of 4 on a 2d6 roll to charge successfully. The chance is already great but to make it even better, consider having a Command Group (E) within 5 cm to let them make a special 3d6 roll instead.
3 – The point of contact clearly indicates that the Wild Creatures will decide on the positioning. Considering the deployment of the Gaeldor units, the best choice is to align the Orcs to the Wild Creatures’ front edge, bringing the greenskins’ flank closer to the Barbarians.
4 – The Wild Creatures move on bigger bases than the Orcs, meaning their rank is slightly wider. When positioning the Orcs, it is worth aligning them to the right corner of the Wild Creatures’ unit. Such a thorough positioning guarantees that the upcoming charge of the Barbarians will have a better chance to succeed.
5 – After resolving the attacks of the Wild Creatures, the second activation should be the horde of Barbarians declaring a charge at the flank of the orcish horde.
After turning around the die, the charge distance is 13 cm. The Mobility of barbarians is 10 cm and they will roll 3d6 instead of 2d6 for the charge distance because of the same nearby Command Group that previously helped the Wild Creatures.
In this particular case, it means that the Barbarians’ charge is certain thanks to the Gaeldor army special rule (unless the opponent has got some surprises up their sleeve).
6 – The Wild Creatures managed to defeat a couple of orcish bases after the charge. Their charge effectiveness was a bit lower because of the Horde rule. But the Barbarians will not be affected by that, as they take advantage of the Horde rule as well. They will now align themselves against the unit of Orcs.
7 – The final alignment. The horde of Barbarians supported by the Champion of Hunt will now attack.
Summary: The biggest advantage of single cavalry ranks is often not their own combat skills, but the ability to charge at longer distances and position the enemy unit in such a way that its flank or rear is drawn closer for the charge of other friendly units.
Hope it helps you during your Argatoria battles! If you have any questions, go ahead and ask.

Those stands are 20x20mm, right? so I can figure out the size of the minis (because the orcs seem quite big, I'll probably use those as black orcs!).

Been watching some gameplay, this looks like a really smart little rank and flank game. Thinking of grabbing a 2 player starter bundle to try this out. Does it come with a decent force for that or should I grab another unit or characters?

The game uses both 20x20 and 25x25mm bases, depending on the unit, though mostly 20x20.
The Starter Sets are indeed a great place to - erm - start, though I picked up the rules first and then bought minis after figuring out what forces suited me.

Sweet I grabbed the Arox vs Dirandis army deal and a few movement trays. My brother is a big Orc fanboy so, we'll get an army box in August/September if we enjoy how it plays.
Rules system has a lot to like, quick but a good amount of tactical details in there.
Going to find the best Goblin Green match and paint it up the bases in as old school a fashion as I can manage.

Yeah, most of the bases in the Orc army photo are 20x20mm, the exception are Priests of Sael (purple cloaks & hammers) who are on 25x25mm ones.

Cool! For the Goblin Green edges, if you want them to look like on the Argatoria catalog minis, Golden Olive from Vallejo Model Color range is the exact paint used. You might wanna search for a different one though if you prefer a more intense green

Hi there! Today's pre-release update for the Er'Sael army features a terrain specific for the region of Ugruk- hor (the land of Orcs). You can read all the updates here – https://www.spellcrow.com/ersael-orcs-army-pm-52.html – but I have also pasted this one below for your convenience.
In the lands of Ugruk- hor, there are immense black rocks, seldom found in other parts of the world. Their peaks rise from the earth, resembling sharply pointed arrowheads. The largest among them may reach up to several dozen meters and can be seen from a great distance. The Orcs discovered that these rocks extend remarkably deep into the ground, and regions where they appear in dense clusters often abound in rich ores and valuable minerals.
It was the sheer majesty and vastness of these rocks that led the orcish race, intrigued by their unusual shapes, to begin excavating. Over time, this gave rise to a group of Orc diggers, who, as their experience grew, came to be called miners.
Black Stone is widely used in many Orc structures due to the ease with which it can be extracted and processed. Buildings made of it have a rather sombre look, which is very appealing to the orcish taste, and many of them feature additional details crafted from the bones of massive beasts, whose whiteness contrasts perfectly with the black of the stone.
(Such scenery may be crafted from polystyrene or foam, based on the terrain shown. To highlight the texture of the black rock, it's worth drybrushing with grey.)

In today's pre-release update for the Er'Sael army, we're giving you the story of Kluhnar. This is an introduction to another unit's preview scheduled for this Friday, August 8th. Read the story here – https://www.spellcrow.com/ersael-orcs-army-pm-52.html – or below!
Monk of the Shadow Temple
THE STORY OF KLUHNAR
In the period the Orcs call the Era of Devastation, there lived Kluhnar – a thinker and scholar, eternal servant to the great warlord Hneder. This often silent Orc is remembered to this day as one of the finest counsellors ever to advise the orcish lords. He believed that, for Ugruk- hor to grow in power, it was essential to possess warriors capable of stealing information and executing assassinations whilst remaining unseen. Such a notion defied orcish nature – something more befitting of Humans or Elves, but certainly not Orcs. Yet the more Kluhnar pondered, the more convinced he became that these were precisely the warriors Ugruk- hor required. Warriors whose very existence none would believe in.
To realise his plan, he needed the knowledge of someone who was expert in this field. Such an individual did exist – though he dwelt very far away and was known for his unmatched arrogance. Kluhnar laid out his plan before Lord Hneder, and after a year, he was granted the means necessary to undertake the great mission.
The journey to Tao-fu, land of the Ratmen, took almost two years. When the expedition reached the gates of the temple, Kluhnar informed the guards that he came bearing great gifts, which he wished to present to the grand master — and in return, he asked only for a single conversation. So immense were the offerings that he was granted audience. Kluhnar knew he would now need every ounce of his intellect and cunning to contend with the grand master — the Silver Whisker.
Indeed, the Silver Whisker was arrogant, but he also possessed a formidable intellect and great strength. This Ratman remained without peer in the art of swordplay and in wielding the strange weapon known as the nunchaku. Kluhnar steered the conversation with care, biding his time to utter a single sentence he had long held in his mind – hoping the Silver Whisker would contradict him. Sipping a cherry infusion, Kluhnar admitted he had never seen warriors as skilled as those in the Silver Whisker's temple, but added that even such a great master would likely fail to forge a true warrior from an average Orc. The Silver Whisker laughed and replied, with his characteristic arrogance, that greenskins held potential – one merely needed the eye to perceive it, and the skill to shape it.
Kluhnar humbly nodded and conceded that the Silver Whisker was probably right. Yet he made sure to appear unconvinced. He spoke of the orcish inclination toward aggression, of their clumsy physiques, and of many other flaws of his race. The master nodded, fingers trailing through his long whiskers. At length, he stood and said: “Give me one of your servants – not the dullest, but not too clever either, for the mind can at times hinder the hand. Return with gifts twice as grand in exactly three years. I shall gain the means my temple requires... and you shall gain that which you seek.” Kluhnar froze as he finished his tea. The master had seen through his plan, yet agreed to enact that which the Orc had dreamt of for years. Slowly, he set down his glass and rose in silence. He bowed deeply, ashamed, before the Silver Whisker, and said: “Indeed, you are a grand master.”
The servant left behind to begin his training was Sun-tin – once known as Brulin, later the famed master of the Shadow Temple in Ugruk- hor. Sun-tin would go on to found the school of assassins and to pen the laws of the monk-warriors, many of which were drawn from the teachings of the Ratmen of Tao-fu. Sun-tin remained a devoted disciple of the Silver Whisker until the end of his days.

Assassin style units are always quirky in rank and flank games. I wonder will they have Ambush or something even quirkier.
Lore is fun with them as an unaligned force that are importuned to join other armies.
If they get a hero or command group, different coloured underclothes are a fun modeling opportunity.

Nice design, echoes of some 80/90s anime with hints of the Ohmu from Nausicca or the Radam from Tekkamann/Teknoman

Army looks awesome, I think the only unit we haven't seen is the Riders of Daaran, well that and the Prophet on Varanor.

I’ve recruited a second Orc player so I’ll be grabbing the Purple Warlock issue for him as he’s a big terrain head.

That's a different cover to the Compendium that was announced, does that mean a new rulebook to go with the Compendium or just one new rulebook.
Good either way.

Dumb question, where can I buy the skeleton characters and the orc troops?

I suspect that the former Compendium project might have split into a unified rulebook and unified-for-now background book.
As for the minis, I suspect the answer will be the Spellcrow site once everything goes up for pre-order on the 24th.

Firstly, if you're located in Germany, FantasyWelt has a good stock of Argatoria and they seem to have all the Skeleton heroes.
Legendary Hero Gnat: https://www.fantasywelt.de/Argatoria-Sheol-morg-Gnat-Skeletons
Skeleton Champions: https://www.fantasywelt.de/Argatoria-Sheol-morg-Skeletons-Champions
Skeleton Command Group: https://www.fantasywelt.de/Argatoria-Sheol-morg-Skeletons-Command-Group-4
If you prefer to order directly from Spellcrow, the general category for all Sheol-morg units and heroes (including different Skeleton heroes) is here: https://www.spellcrow.com/sheol-morg-c-76_93.html
As for the Orcs, they will be out in pre-order only this Sunday, Aug 24th, so not yet available.
