Hi all,
We are in the preliminary stages of settling up the second edition of Bac-con, once again to raise money for the Brain Tumour Charity in honour of Paul Sawyer.
The thread for thd first edition can be found here - https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/814703.page
I would appreciate any ideas people have for this edition, the initial thoughts are to be having it again at Firestorm Games in Cardiff sometime around April, with a few different games being played with an overarching narrative to tie together.
As before this will be a light hearted meet and play event with time for a couple of games and a raffle to raise funds for a worthy cause.
I welcome any input, thoughts or ideas.

Very much looking forward to this!
A good amount of money raised last time for a good cause, and some fun games in memory of Paul.

I’ve an idea.
Try to recreate classic battle reports. I’m thinking the 2nd Ed one, where a Space Marine armoured column was on the rampage to squish a rogue planetary Governor.
The sort of things that as Nippers we could only dream of owning enough tanks to fulfil, but in the modern day? I could do on my own. Automatically Appended Next Post: And of course, I’ve still got some hard to find event and location exclusive models for the inevitable raffle.

If enough people wish to play 2nd ed 40k then go for it!
I have done some work contacting venues to see about dates etc. the most likely appears to be the final weekend of April, most likely the Sunday. Automatically Appended Next Post: And it seems our venue is locked in, Bristol Independent Gaming on the 26/04/26.
Door price is yet to be confirmed but it will not be excessive.
We need some preliminary numbers so if you would be keen to attend please vote in the poll attached to the OP.
Many thanks.

Definitely up for this again! Fun gaming and for a good cause! And BIG is very convenient for me.
Voted LI, as I did enjoy that last time but depend how it works out numbers-wise would equally be up for EA (with my LI models, if someone was willing to teach me!) or big 30k.

Sadly cancer will keep me away from this year’s event. This’ll be right in the middle of my chemo.
Hope it goes great though guys.

On attendance and fundraising?
I’ve still some Event Exclusives for the raffle table.
I know it’s extra work and not necessary practical extra work. But has anyone looked into extending the raffle to online?
It won’t stop me bringing them like, but just thinking of casting the net as wide as practically possible.

It opens up a whole load of hassle with shipping and having to stream the draw so people can see its done fairly as well as having to promote ahead exactly what is being offered and taking tickets, gambling laws, extra pay pal fees etc. I could be sold on the idea but as I look at it, it seems a fair too much extra work for the potential gain.
Hopefully we should have the event structure ironed out by months end and can really get into marketing and getting sponsorship.

A quick update on thoughts for the LI portion of this event, would welcome input from people (for or against, either is good!).
After bouncing ideas around we are looking at 3x, 2 1/2 hour games. Army lists are to be drawn up at 2k pts and no more than 18 activations.
For the first two games there will be no scoring on objectives round 1 and no shooting past 18" (FoW from Tallarn), this will not be in effect for round 3.
Round 1 to be take and hold for 5 objectives.
Round 2 take a central objective.
Round 3 take and runaway with a central objective.
Thoughts?

Ingtaer and I have been beavering away behind the scenes with some help from the Epic UK group to get the format for this year's event ready. The event focus will be on Epic Legions Imperialis and Epic Armageddon, which the event narrative will cover, but absolutely fine if anyone wanted to buy a ticket and play any other game (we are expecting some attendees to play 30k Heresy, Age of Sigmar and Bolt Action). Webpage has now been updated with more info and PayPal to get the tickets (£15 - all of this amount going to the Brain Cancer Trust). www.bac-con-epic.com Event summary: Date: 26th April 2026. 3 games of Legions Imperialis or Epic Armageddon Day will include a prize raffle and many terrible bacon-based puns!

I’m up for it! Will also share to the Legions Imperialis Reddit thread if that’s cool?
Also will sort my ticket Friday.

Ah.
So. Like a dumbass? I’m now in Japan on the day.
Pacific or Ingtaer, would either of you be kind to pm your address so I can at least bundle off the exclusive models for the raffle?

Post by: Pacific
Yes thank you Doc that is extremely kind of you!
A shame you are in Japan and can't make it (although not for you ofc) - hoping this year we can build some momentum and we'll be able to make this a continuing yearly event.

Sorry to hear that General Kroll, wishing you all the best with your treatment!
And a shame not to get to meet the Mad Doc IRL too!
But I've bought my ticket, as one of the fairly local folk, please let me know if there is anything I can help with Pacific / Ingtaer!

Hi folks - ticket sales progressing nicely so far, and we also have some very exciting raffle prizes which hopefully he will be able to reveal here soon.
In the meantime here is a sneak peek on some of the special objectives being made for the day, for both Legions Imperialis and Epic Armageddon. In running with the bacon theme, pigs will feature heavily!

A quick post to show some of the raffle prizes that will be available to win - these were very generously donated by Mad Doc Grotsnik and will definitely be a grand prize! All proceeds from the raffle will be going to the charity.

Thanks mate! Going for a different theme for each table, so will have an ork theme, Imperial, Chaos etc. For the Legions Imperialis objectives, it is basically just marines fighting + pigs!

KONICHAWA from the reason I’m not attending because Diary is a dirty word.

So after many dice have been rolled, hordes of tiny 6/8mm miniatures slain and of course bacon butties consumed Bac-Con is finished for another year. Will post some pictures from the day later on but we managed to reach a really good donation total to the Brain Tumour Charity, more than double the amount of 2025.
Adding the amount from sales from the items donated by MDG we have reached a total of £845!
We are already making plans for next year and the third iteration of the event. Many thanks to everyone who took part or supported in whichever capacity!

Magnificent!!
I’d love this to grow bigger and bigger each year. Paul Sawyer was such a formative part of the hobby, the one we genuinely looked up to in the pre-internet age.
Getting a bunch of gamers together with a DIY ethos just to have some hobby fun is a great way to memorialise his impact, and raise money for a good cause.

Sitting in a Metal Bar in Tokyo, and I’ve had an idea. Let me know if you think it’s a silly one.
But…a 2nd Ed Space Marine exhibition game. Using the exact same forces and as near as we can manage terrain and board layout from a White Dwarf Battle Report.
Square, Round or Oblong bases don’t make a huge difference in-game, so if one side is Marines no real reason we can’t use modern models. But any would be fair game. Vintage (god bless you!), third party, 3d prints, whatever.
Embrace the Indy “we’ll do as we please” spirit of the Net Epic community, whilst recreating a Hobby Historical punch up?
