Hi all, going to give this a go as hoping it will help motivate me with my painting.

I got back into the hobby and 40k just over 2 years ago, after 20+ years away. It was a combination of things that got me to start again, the general rise in popularity of Warhammer, I've worked with some people who collect it and most importantly I just remember I used to really enjoy painting my old minis and kind of wanted to do that again.

Where I'm living is sort of a hobby desert so no local gaming clubs or anything like that (nearest I could find is over an hours drive away so not really workable for me) so mainly been focusing on painting though maybe someday I will try and get involved with playing.

Since I'm focusing on painting and to avoid the fatigue of just painting one type of colour scheme I've basically ended up with models for various armies which I rotate through.

To date I've mainly focused on my Dark Angels, Necrons and Tyranids but also have Ossiarch Bonereapers and Dwarfs from The Old World.

Another thing to mention is I am really slow at painting, just due to me liking to take my time but also only having limited time in which I can paint due to work, kids, wife etc.

Got all my models out at the end of last year for some group photos when I'd hit around the two year point where I got started and they can be seen below.

At that point I've done:

Necrons
20 x Warriors
6 x Scarab swarms
3 x Skorpekh Destroyers + Plasmacyte
1 x Royal Warden

Dark Angels
10 x Infernus Marines
5 x Assault Intercessors
5 x Intercessors
1 x Lieutenant with Storm Shield

Tyranids
20 x Termagaunts
2 x Ripper Swarms

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Since the above pictures were taken, I've also finished some Hormagaunts.

For my Tyranids I've been going with the Jormungandr colours. Its a great colour scheme even if the yellow can be a pain, and from a lore perspective I just like that they are the sneaky gits Hive Fleet.

Welcome back, those are some lovely models that you have painted. They look wonderful and the tyranids colour scheme is great.
I know how challenging it can be to try and carve out time with all of life’s requirements but a 10 min here and there all adds up (although having to photograph and blog does take a little time but it’s worth it!).
What’s your next goal or challenge that you are looking to try and complete?

Those are nice group shots, solid painting there mate. The DA and Nids look good in particular for me! I rarely game but I do like painting and modelling my mountain of potential. Maybe one day I'll even finish it!!

Thanks very much. Next goal is to make a start on some of my Bonereapers for a bit of a change from 40k. I've assembled and made a start painting some Mortek Guard and I want to do a Crematorian colour scheme. Really like the unique look and lore of the Crematorians so was really drawn to that colour scheme. There isnt really much in terms of painting guides on that particular colour scheme so having to rely on mostly my best judgement so we'll see how it goes.

Thank you. I've ended up falling into the trap initially of buying models faster than I can paint them, but do see them all as a pile of potential as well. Doesnt help my wife now sees Warhammer as an easy gift option.

I've made a start on some Mortek Guard. Have 10 assembled and primed, but tend not to enjoy batch painting more than 3 or 4 models at a time. So I've been working on the first 4.

So far got a lot of the basecoats done with some shading and layering. Still more layering and edge highlighting to do but happy with how they are turning out so far.

Normally I wouldnt bother with sub assemblies, but leaving the shields off seemed sensible for these guys.

For their bases, I'm planning to go for the cracked lava effect as I've been sort of itching to try that out and these Crematorians seem to be a good fit for that.

Also on a side note, I was kind of surprised how small these guys were. Before getting them out and assembling them I just had this idea in my head that they would be of a similar size to a Necron Warrior but they are quite a bit smaller.

You're choosing some really good colour schemes! The black and yellow Tyranids are great.

Those are very good yellow and black Tyranids for Warhammer 40k.

Thanks lads, much appreciated. Glad to see people enjoying my Tyranids.

Anyway just another little progress update.

Other than the crackle paint and finishing the base, these guys are finished.

Pretty happy with how they've turned out. Mainly with the inner fire on their bodies and the burning weapon blades.

Theres room for improvement but turned out better than I expected for the first attempt.

I was planning on trying to get more of a glow effect on their bodies but my test attempt ended up looking pretty messy, and was sort of taking away from the work I'd done in the recesses, so ended up walking back on that.

I still have another 6 to do so hopefully my next update will be with some final pictures of the finished unit.

It's been a long while but managed to finally complete my Mortek Guard a couple of weeks ago.

Pretty happy with how they've turned out. It's a pretty fun colour scheme and gave me an opportunity to try out some new things, mainly the burning effects and the cracked lava bases.

Since finishing these I've been painting up the Necron Overlord with the Tachyon arrow. Its the first character model I've painted in a long while and its made for a nice break from painting up a large unit.

Mostly just got his blade and some highlighting left to do but should hopefully be finished in the next week or so.
