So friendly models are now officially impassable terrain to deep strikers and IC´s can join units entering from reserve in the same turn. On a first read through, it seemed ok to me.
Still, any FAQ is better than none at all.
|
With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

Rapid fire range for casualties cleared up. Friendlies count as impassable terrain for deep striking. And if transport-elligible troops and a non-dedicated transport come in on the same reserves roll (whenever that might happen) they can show up together. But that really doesn't do much because Fire Dragons will have to deploy on turn 1 anyway. EDIT: Oh, and you can have a 20" barrel on your leman russ demolisher and be in range to much of the board, LOS permitting. After all, range is measured from the muzzle. Swell.

The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |

There are some major errors in the FAQ. It says to treat models firing from vehicle from the fire point, although normally you measure form the closest edge of the hull/main body. I was happy for the first page but I'm not so excited anymore. Edit- Oh I see they changed that in general, Go Go Executioner barrel on a Demolisher!

After all, range is measured from the muzzle. Swell. Yea, that was the biggest change I noticed. And a change it is. Whatever happened to their new RAW = GOD stance? Ah well, at least there will be definitive answers to some questions soon (as I assume this is a leaked pre-release faq like the others a few weeks ago).

Its in PDF format. I think thats pretty official.
I would have preferred both LOS and distance from the weapon's mount for KISS, but on the whole I like how this one was done. Now if they can keep it up and add new questions.

20" gun barrel is not likely to happen. but rhino chassis weapons such as the razorback and predator will have their wepons on the front of the hull instead of the back

I have to give GW a lot of credit. It's been a long time coming and these rulings will definitely help minimize a lot of arguments during a game. The majority of the rulings make since and work well with the game mechanics. Hats off to the staff for this general rules update.

I'm not sure what is sadder. The fact that the FAQ had to be 4 pages long or the fact that it is only 4 pages long.
There is still a lot of questions that need answering. Lets hear it for another half ass effort by GW.

Posted By Hellfury on 09/29/2006 2:35 PM Well I guess that answers the friendly model/deepstrike debate. It also ends the drop pod scattering onto friendly models debate. Friendly models = impassable terrain. Drop pods reduce scatter if it would take them into difficult terrain. Drop pods = happy.

Ok so it's not quite that good. But it's a good effort in my opinion. Lot of issues fixed here, good work GW.

Think that means they've been sitting on it for a year or more?

According to the UK Shrine of Knowledge, they updated the Tau and Tyranids FAQs today as well. Someone who knows them better than me will have to point out any changes. EDIT: It also has a WFB Rulebook FAQ and an update High Elves FAQ.

Tau FAQ points out the General FAQ answer about scout. Allowing the Pathfinders to start on the table in escalation if they deploy outside the fish. Sniper teams act as individual units. Gun drones do not use the BS of the vehicle they are attached to. Markerlights can reduce a cover save or leadership value to the point of negating it entirely. Good rulings as far as I'm concerned. Course I fought tooth and nail over most of these interpretations in YMDC, so I'm biased.

Overall it looks pretty good. One thing I'm still unclear on.
Say a Black Templars army has multiple drop pods and the mission uses Reserves. Each drop pod only has nine models in each. You put your Emperor's Champion in reserve with the drop pods. If you roll for the EC and a drop pod to come in the same turn, he is able to go in the drop pod? Help me understand if this is correct.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

Cool stuff. I expected Pathfinders and their Devilfish to act in that manner anyway so I'm not inconvenienced about it. Thanks Moz. I quite liked your arguments.
I have a bad feeling about this, however. I'm sensing they're going to try this out and if they don't see sales improve we'll just have to suck it up. Either that or they must've felt pretty generous this month and it's going to wear down soon. Oh well, at least the guys who put it up left out the snide comments (or friendly explanations if that's what you called them) and did a good job of picking the right questions and sticking to them while answering.
