I ask because last winter, Warmachine really took off here in Tulsa.  It kept going strong, and many of us WHFB players got into it, while we waited in limbo for 7th ed.  Warmachine was really popular (the Hordes mania died off rather quicky once the game was actually released) up until, oh, September?  Everyone seemed very excited about Superiority- but when the book finally came out, it is like all the Warmachine players just disappeared.  I know several of us are back to playing WHFB, but there were many non-GW gamers into WM, and no one has seen them in weeks.  It's... eerie.

He's got a mind like a steel trap. By which I mean it can only hold one idea at a time;
it latches on to the first idea to come along, good or bad; and it takes strenuous effort with a crowbar to make it let go.

It's funny I was thinking of putting up a thread asking if anyone could point me to some places I could go to in order to try/play/buy Warmachine/Hordes.

I live near a GW store and my gaming group has no interest in trying something other than 40k so I have no idea where to go if I were to maybe pick some stuff up for the game.  I live in Cherry Hill, NJ - right out of Philly so some PA store references would help if they're not too far.

Hordes and WM are huge at Abington Games and at Showcase Comics, both in the philly area. In fact, Abington has a PP League day this Sunday. I think there's also going to be a tournament in Conshohocken (SP?) at Roundtable games this Saturday at 1pm, $10, 500 points. Probably not the best way to start playing, but wouldn't be a bad way to check out different armies/play styles.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

D.O.A. as far as I know of in Cincinnati. Of the one store locally that I know of that was carrying the games they haven't seemed to have gotten any of the last two releases in. I'm hoping that come next February at least one store will carry the Formula P3 paints, but I'm not holding my breath. I can always order them from my FLGS, but I really like seeing a paints true colors in the bottle before I purchase them.

It seems pretty cyclical. Around here the interest waxes and wans for any game system. One of the owners told me once that while WHFB and 40k were his big sellers, there was always a period where people played something different. It use to be a specialist game like inquisitor or mordheim but now (thanks to the lack of support for specialist games) its games like warmachine and FOW. In any case, I think you'll see warmachine pick up again as people get bored with 7ed or new eldar, etc.

Locally, there's a recent influx of players (myself among them) that has increased the activity. It's nowhere near as popular though. Last WM/Hordes tournies I went to had 8-10 players, same store has 20+ players with a large alternate lists for 40k and whfb.

At my FLGS Hordes and Warmachine dominate. FoW has a strong following also. 40k is dying a slow death, and WHFB 7th was DOA. Other games have occasional outbreaks, but they don't last long. Two weeks ago we had an RTT for the first time in over a year, where as we have a PP tourney every couple of months.

WM is just startng in this area.

Since GW has killed mybeloved deathwing, I am moving on. That means WM.

There is a store in missoula MT that doesnt even carry GW products and is going strong. WM seems very popular there, along with Pirates of the spanish main.

WM has nowhere but to rise in popularity in Montana.

It's very strong here in Providence, RI, but we're currently having a tough time finding a new shop to really organize at. A large one is opening in the spring supposedly, but it's been a tough year overall.

Did you get a copy of the codex early somehow?  If so, send one to me!

Warmachine's a very good game, though having a bit of a slowdown recently in my neck of the woods.  A bunch of guys are having fun with the new prepainted Star Wars thing, but it's not my cup of tea.

Sadly, not much to say about the PDF that hasnt been said already at portent/warseer.

A huge dissapointment really. Kind of like the BT. The only good that can come of this trend is that the BA will finally be neutered sufficiently when its turn comes.

Deathwing is dead. Period. There is nothing indicating how DW are competitive or even very fluffy.
Lysander is the last hope of the DW refugees.

From the three people I know of that has the PDF, all three seem to have a different version. We havent shared copies to truly verify this, but from what little we have talked to each other about (venerable dread, red s8n, slaanesh 1000) we all seem to have sufficient differences in our pdf's to make it conclusive that most of what we know, isnt conclusive. We do however all agree that DW is dead, as that atleast is consistent across the board.

Start in Seattle then hike across the sound.

Kitsap County, Washighton, is pretty sparce for places to play. The downtown area of Seattle may as well never heared of it. I do suspect there are quite a few people collecting and playing with their freinds. Its just so much harder stalking people from house to house than going to an LGS.

Furthermore at the closest game store the little space they cram all the Privateerpress stuff into is rather depressing.

According to PP, they're based in Bellvue, WA.  A quick look at an online map places that about 10 mi. east of Seattle.

The retailer list...

http://www.privateerpress.com/company/default.php?x=help/customer/store&s=WA&state=Washington

Shows four stores that carry Warmachine in Seattle itself, plus lots of others nearby (I used to shop at Wonderworld in Burien). Of course, some of the listings might be outdated, and some stores might not also have game space, but if it were me, I'd call.

EDIT:

Fire and Sword Hobbies appears to be the miniatures wargames specialist in the bunch.  Warmachine/Hordes night is Thursday.

I feel your pain. Everything in Seattle is a hefty bus ride, since the city is so stretched out. My first girlfriend lived up on University Ave and I lived in Burien, for Gods sakes. Believe me, I feel your pain.
