After getting the Apocalypse book, I decided on fielding a Dred Mob. I've always had a desire to do something similar, but there were previously no rules to support it.
I already have a bunch of Deff Dreds and a Kan, but I decided it would be more fun to build the bulk of the force from the ground up.
To this end I have already started building a Bid Dred, a Stompa, and a force of Kans.
Starting tonight I will be posting pics of Progress.

Most of my existing Dreds are in sad shape. A few years ago I sold off all my RT era and 2nd Ed stuff to buy all 3rd edition models. Then I didn't get much past assembling everything to get disgusted with the orks BS of 2 and moved on to other armies.
Since you asked though, I'll see what I can do about patching up my Dreds and slapping a fresh coat of paint on them, or at the least, take a few pictures of what's already done.

PLANS FOR DA KANS
The day GW releases a box of 3 Plastic Kans with all the weapon options, I'll become a very happy man.
Untill then, I just don't like the existing metal enough, so I'm kustomising mine.
I envision them being the footsloggers in my glorious mekanical Waaagh!!
To that end I am working on a set of templates to allow me construct Kans with 3 body types, 3 melee weapon choices, and Eavy Shoota, and rokit launcha option, all of which will be modular.
The picture of the Kan above is the first prototype, which was modified from a set of plans for a Dred I found online.
The newer versions are more detailed and scaled to better match the existing GW models size.
The melee options will be: (I'll edit in pics as I'm able)
Octaganal Claw - Pictured Above - like the 2nd ed Dread
Shearing Claws - Not pictured yet - like the bladed claws of the current ed Dred
Buzz Saw - Not pictured yet - Like the melee weapon on the Kans and current Dred

Shearing Claw arm for DA BIG DRED
Shearing Claw for DA BIG DRED from a different angle
DA BIG DRED with Big Shoota, Rokit Launcha, and both melee arms attached
Big Shoota Side
Rokit Launcha Side
DA BIG DRED next to OOP Ork Dreadnaught for size comparison
STOMPA with some armor plating added
STOMPA feet with hydraulics added.
They are a bit hard to see as they are made mostly out of various sized clear tubing
STOMPA sized Chain Weapon
I'm having to redesign the armament on the STOMPA to comply with the Apocaplypse rules.
Shooty arm for DA STOMPA
Rokity Arm of DOom
Some Air Support for Da Boyz
One of mY Dreds, in da shop
A Dred from DemonBlade Games
Force Field Generator for Da Big Dred
Not much to look at at the moment.
I want it to look like it was a ground based item ripped out and strapped onto da dreds back
Close Up of Da Big Shoota
Close Up of Shearing Claw, now with BoltS!!
Bolts make everything Orky look better.
Added some little details here and there

The arms look a little long to me. It might just be the pictures, but the proportions make them look sort of long and spindly, like panzee arms, not thick and muscle bound like propa boyz.
Otherwise though, it looks really good. The melee weapons are making wonder if it wouldn't be cheaper and easier to go to Harbor Freight, get some cheap pliers/cutters and hit them with a hammer until the handle break off.

The arms on Da Big Dred are longer and thicker than GW Dred arms.
I have this wacky theory about Dreds being able to grab a space marine and hold him at a distance that he can't kill the driver with a stab of his power sword.
For reference, the Kan arm is the same length as the GW arm, but thicker.

Nah, power swords don't work on vehicle armor! Just infantry armor. Because, you know, they are different... :-)
I guess it is just the picture confusing me. Or maybe just that they are so long compared to the legs and the body that they look like they should be dragging on the ground at all time. I am certain it will look better to me when it is painted up. They usually do.

Just before coming to work I finished slapping together another Kan. The body is more in line with the existing GW model, the legs are longer than my prototypes, has a redesigned Big Shoota. I'm really happy about how the body turned out, and pondered casting it to expedite future Kan production. I don't think that I will, as I wanted to have no two models alike. Scratchbuilding everything pretty much insures diversity. I'll post some pics of it when I get home tonight.
Did some work on the STOMPA head as well.
Got an idea for a second STOMPA that would be more like the one in the Apocalypse rule book.
Was debating with myself on how to paint the dreds. I've reading the thread on dipping and was pondering the possibility of base coating the kans with silver spray paint, brushing on some black, white, and red, and then dipping the whole thing in an wash. I'm expecting the silver basecoat with the brown wash will give the thing a dingy metal look, with a little color here and there to keep it from looking like a Necron reject.

I've been really busy between the holiday, work, and home improvement projects.
STOMPA - I've kinda hit a dead end where I can't really decide how to make the weapon systems. Somewhere along the way he went from being a basic stompa to a mekby stompa. I'm not happy with the head design representing the eye of mork, but I like it enough I don't want to scrap it. I think the final resolution may just me making a second stompa to use the head and chainsaw arm.
DA BIG DRED - Needs more rivets needs detail work here and there, but in general I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Chrome Visor Kan - adding pistons to it here and there, and of course more rivets.
SM Inspired Dred - started it's life as a kan, but had been promoted to Dred. I'll post some updated pics of it soon. It's not finished, but I have the legs and a CC Arm ready.
The CC arm on it is the most detailed I've done yet. It swivels at the shoulder and had 2 working joints and a spinning buzz saw blade.
I really need to finish these projects and get some paint on them before I start some more.........
Oh wait, that's right.... did I forgrt o mention that I started building a Warlord Titan ?
I think I'll start another thread for that

This project is really coming along nicely and it is great to see everything being scratch built. Would you be willing to share your templates with us at some point? The kopta is looking promising as well though the different textures and colours makes it a bit hard to see.... once it is undercoated it should be a lot clearer though

I'd be inviting the wrath of GW if I just posted the plans willy nilly!!!
Did I mention that I belong to both ?
http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/bwc-archive/
and
http://www.tabletopwar.com
Both are private groups that happen to have some of my work in their files section, for members only of course.
I'll be distributing any plans I complete between those groups.
I've run into a few delays at the moment
*My son is expected to be born anytime now
*My scanner won't scan becuase I'm out of ink and I refuse to pay that much for ink, so I bought a new scanner, but somehow 2 day shipping is going to take 7 days to get to me becuase of the holidays.
*It's too cold and wet outside to basecoat models
*I also suffer from M.A.D.D. (Modellers Attention Deficit Disorder) which makes me start new projects before finishing others..... Look something shiny...I bet I could turn that into something for my ork army....

These are some drawings of the templated Kans I put together.
Version A
Version B
I've resticted the plans so far to the use of card, because I wanted something people could use without having to shop for speciality bits.
The next set I have planned will include the use of BIC roundstic pens. They are pretty widely available and dirt cheap, especially if buy them in bulk.

Been busy with the new baby, but I was able to do some work on the kans plans tonight.
Right now they include
3 body types
1 arm type
1 leg type
4 melee attachments (Power Claw, Buzz saw, classic ork claw, and vise claws)
Heavy Shoota
Rokkit Launcha rack (No Rokits)
Optional hip and shoulder armor plating.
2 foot types
I'm wokring on
2 more body types
1 more arm type
1 more leg type
I'm going to take a peak and see what kind of wargear can be attached to a Kan and see if I can model that as well.

Nobs w/Kombi-Weapons. Card on the bottom of the foot to make em seem Taller, and Card between the arms to make their Torso seem Broader.
I only have 5 More to do, I wounder how long it takes to make the Killa' Kans?
Great Work BTW
P.S. Congrats on the Kid! i have a 16 year old daughter, and a 13 year old son (going on 18, so he thinks ).

How Long, is a China Man's Name.
Sorry, couldn't resist. My father used to tell me that when I was a kid.
I usually put one together while watching a movie. So under 2 hours. It could take longer if you add tons of fiddly details, and probably less time if you actually concentrated on what you were doing
P.S. thanks for the congrats. My daughter and son are 4 years apart, so I amgine I'll be in the same boat your in someday.

Nah, I'll still spend a fortune on GW models.
I just would have never tried to field 12+Kans is I had to pay $22 each for them. Even if I did, I would have probably given up in frusteration after trying to build and customise them all.
This way, if the novelty of the army wears off, I'm out time invested, but not so much cash. This is purely a concept army, I haven't even tried to figure out practical it would be to field.
I just got it in my head that I want to field
1 Big Dred
2 Mek Stompas
4 Deff Dreds
12+ Killa Kans
I'm tempted to equip the kans with Rokkit Launchas
and just concetrate their fire on a single target per turn.

I just had a brilliant idea!!
I could use a scaled up version of the leg from my Warlord Titan project as the body for a Stopma and a scaled up versions of kan parts for alot of the other bits and I'd already be half done with a template for Stompas.
