The memphis Battle bunker is closing today. This sux for me that is the only place me and my son have to play. We drive an hour from Batesville MS to get there and there are no local game clubs around here. If anyone knows of a club around Memphis or Oxford MS let me know.

???

I thought Memphis was their big manufacturing/distribution center? Why close their bunker there?

My group plays in Saltillo, but thats a long drive from Batesville. I saw a rumor about the bunker closing on BoLS, but hoped it wasn't true. We liked playing in the tourneys up there.

The Memphis Bunker was scheduled to close about 4 years ago, as it doesn't fit GW US's buisiness plan. (Bunkers are supposed to be located in areas with a certain amount of population density) However, since the rent was 'free' (GW owns the building) it kept getting pushed back. Had they closed when it was first 'scheduled' the gamestore my friends and I opened might not have gone under as fast as it did. (Of course it still might have, we made a LOT of mistakes.)

To the OP: PM 'Memphis Mark' as according to his blog some friends of his had opened a gamestore somewhere in the area.

EDIT: I just looked up the blog and the store is called "Gamerz Depot" in Olive Branch, Mississippi.

I lived in Memphis awhile ago and there used to be a great shop called Midtown Toys. They had a huge gaming room and lots of GW merchandise. You might want to look them up.

Midtown is closed. With the bunker closed, there are zero gaming stores in Memphis, AFAIK.

Never understood the Memphis Bunker....

Last year at the Waagh - they gave ZERO support - would have been a perfect opportunity to bring out the Forgeworld and other product to sell....

Hopefully someone will fill the gaming void in Memphis...or maybe the HAAWGS will move the Waagh to Nashville - which would be AWESOME!!!!!!

I went by the bunker today. Everyone was there. One of the redshirts that worked there is going to open up a store ASAP. It was real sad to be there. They were give away tables and buildings. Everyone was pissed about the whole deal.

I was spoiled when I was in Orange County. The Orange store was 5 minutes away, the bunker 20, and several stores within an hour. I have since moved back to MS and there are now 3 stores in the STATE that sell GW product, and of the two that are in a reasonable driving distance, neither has the gaming area to support anything more than 2 games at once, and Fantasy here is dead. The bunker was the good news about the move and the hobby here. Sadly that was busted when I found out that Memphis no longer sold FW or was even open all week. Now that it is closed, well its a sad day for the LA, MS, AR, and AL areas.

It is very sad. However, if you look at environment, the Memphis Bunker rarely had more than 10 people in it. The Chicago bunker has 100+ every SAT night....and its only 1 of several GW stores in the area.

If Memphis wasn't such a great, central location to act as a distribution hub, there would be nothing there.

Now, if you like hunting and fishing, Memphis is shopping nirvana.

That Memphis bunker was in the middle of an industrial park. No way it would have been put there if the HQ wasn't there.

Is that the one in Olive Branch? They got a web site? I gotta go thru there to get to Memphis, so that's actually closer.

Site is down for maintenance at the moment but they have the address there.

They were running 20% off GW but I am not sure if that is still the case.

I was pretty bummed by the news. I have family in Germantown and everytime we made a trip up I made it a point to stop by. I'll have to check out gamerzdepot. How far from the Battlebunker is Olive Branch?

QFT

It was also a rediculous drive to actually get to the bunker. I think the bunker may have been physically closer to mississippi than it was to the correct target populace areas of Memphis.

True, but the distribution center attached to it was in the industrial park for a reason. A store on its own should be in the targeted population area, but when you have trucks coming in and out everyday the last place you want to have it is next to a mall. Can't put the cart before the mule.

Of course if they closed the battle bunker down then it wasn't pulling anything.

Okay folks, here's the straight skinny:

There IS another gaming store in the area, it is called Gamerz Depot. We are located at 9991 Highway 178 Suite 6 in Olive Branch. If you could make it to the Bunker, you can make it here, it's only like 6-7 miles south from the Bunker. Give me a call at (901) 237-2170 if you get lost.

We sell a lot more than just GW stuff. Just about anything you want, we got. If we don't have it, we'll find a way to get it for you.

We are upen ~5pm-~10pm Tuesday through Friday, and Saturday 10am-10pm or until the last gamer leaves. We are not open during the day because I run the store and I have a day job that pays my bills. I get off at 4:30 and get down to the store as quick as I can.

Everything in the store is 10% off list price, every day. If you special order something and pre-pay, we'll give you 15% off. If it's a new GW release, and you pre-pay, we will give you *25%* off, up until two weeks before the release date.

Because we didn't try to sell against the Bunker, we don't have any GW stock. But, like I said, we can get it in about a week or so. With the Bunker closed, we are considering stocking some GW stuff. No decision has been made on that as yet.

The only caveat is I can't take plastic, but I am working on it. Right now, I only take Cash, check with proper ID, and PayPal.

Come on by, Bring your stuff and roll some dice!

Hey Memphis Mark

Do ya'll have room for gaming tables? and are ya'll planning on running any tournaments?

If so that would be great as I have quite a few guys in the Tupelo area who would be interested in any 40k or WoTR tournaments you may be running.

Best of luck

Given the three month lead time the magazine is produced on, some store closures cannot be reflected in print as quickly as it can be updated in other mediums.

No need to gasp on that account.

Ok then, why is it that you guys are still listing a store in Gastonia, NC that has been closed for almost a year?
