Even when it wasn't orchestral...Final Fantasy Tactics for example: I'm sure it would sound great however if it was turned orchestral.
Not a game unfortunately - but in the same vein:
More specifically the nicest orchestral pieces that I enjoy listening to at home (not purely orchestral however as they are a fusion) come from the final fantasy movie: Advent Children
Not all of them are epic but there are two or three stand outs for me.
Check it out if you haven't listened to the soundtrack.

Halo's soundtrack (both the rocking stuff and the orchestra music) is simply amazing. The theme for Halo 3 in particular is epic. Even the menu theme with the Gregorian chanting and choir is good.
People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.
Oh, that's easy. Pretty much everything from Nobue Uematus, the FF componist. Especially part 7.
Super Mario Galaxy had a fantastic orchestral soundtrack.
Though for me, cool videogame music doesn't have to be orchestral. 3/5 of my MP3 collection is from videogames. I just like hearing it. Banjo-Kazzoie has great music, as do most Capcom games.
Advance Wars has some nice music too, if a bit irritating.

Oh yeah, I forgot MGS. I love the main title. It's just one these themes that work, no matter how you play it. Another main theme I also like is Bionic Commando. You can hear it in several versions in different games. Rearmed has a great orchestral piece during the credits, but it's alos nice how they use it in the Demo.
The best orchestrated peice I've heard in a game. So fitting with the ending credits and a nice piece of work.
Personally though I like C&C Red Alert 2's Hellmarch, especially with the intro. It's my theme for my IG army. I play it whenever its my turn on the tabletop because in our gaming circle we chose themes and play them whenever its our turn, like in advance wars.
Its only part of the song(altogether 3 minutes) but I just wanted to show the similarities between them and the IG. Lots of tanks and infantry, leman russes/troops, missile launchers=deathstrike missile launchers, etc.
cant find it on youtube but the temple music in final fantasy X
need to buy a PS2 at some point so i can start playing it again.
need to pay way too much to play FF on the 360 -_-
Edit: can i also say that the game with the worsed music ever is project gotham racing 4.
its all fething classical crap lol, how the feth do you race while listening to bach or mozzart? (no idea on spelling of the names XD)

Suffused with the dying memories of Sanguinus, the warriors of the Death Company seek only one thing: death in battle fighting against the enemies of the Emperor.
Not an orchestra (well maybe the first 20 seconds) but will probably come up sooner or later so what the hell. It has apparently been used in every single Youtube videogame music video. Ever.

That was quite possibly one of the worst songs I've ever heard.
In other news, i though Hitman: Blood Money and Bioshock had pretty good orchestral scores. Very fitting for their respective games.
Shake this square world and blast off for kicksville.
found it after an hour of looking -_-
not sure why i like it, usually i listen to hardstyle / jumpstyle / hard trance.
tempted to make a mix of this at some point lol

I go to the videogames live concert every year when it comes to London and hear a decent range of video game songs performed by a large choir and orchestra. Some of my faves that they do are zelda, halo, god of war and castlevania.
Here's a really bad quality version of castlevania at the show. If the show comes near you I highly recommend going.

I forgot to mention Emperor: Battle for Dune. The Harkonnen had some great heavy stuff.
And how can I forget the wonderful Space Marine theme from DoW?

That one really annoys me (if it is the one I am thinking of) as it is good music that fits the game well, but is purchased from a general music manufacturer who licenses it to other games - it is in fact the main music in civcity: rome as well, so now I cant play one game without thinking of the other grrr.

Star Wars Republic Commando has some great epic tunes and best of all it isn't like the usual Star Wars gak. Company of Heroes also has some nice pieces here and there, especially when playing as the British with all the pomp and brass.
The music in some parts of Resident Evil 4 really creeped me out. I kept turning around to see if anyone had unlocked the door.

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......
One of my favorite songs ( not just game or anime )
The haunting melodies from the flute is just tear dropping T-T
Anyone know a good site to read the story so i dont have to play it?
the subtitle in the video shows a very interesting story.
Chrono Cross Time Scar
Accoustic : Dream of another shore * I have no idea if she remixed these songs, but im in AWE
