My Imperial guard needs a new shiny super heavy tank... therefore I'm going to build them a Marcharius! And since my ork-playing friend is getting a bit cocky so I'm going to arm it whit a vulcan mega bolter...

I'm using the templates from dwc-archive as a starting point. the material is mostly going to be plastic card.

this is what I've got so far:

sides taking shape

side sponson from a leman russ and lots and lots of rivets...

making rivets is boring... but the hole punch makes it tolerable

the hull is also taking shape

update coming soon

Alpharius wrote:Quick question - does that hole punch have a small enough setting to get a size close to what is on the 'official' GW Baneblade model?

the smallest setting is 2 mm... so I have bought some plasticard rods in smaller diameter as a supplement

the hull is coming together... used some humbrol model filler to fill up the gaps and cracks. Now its time to let it dry... then its sanding time

Time for a update!

The turret is starting to take shape

the ammo compartment that is going to be attached to the back of the turret

Putting some of the pieces together...

It actually starts looking a bit like at Marcharius

Lots more to do... sanding, riveting, details...

smiling Assassin wrote:How will you do the treads?

I'm going to use two chimera treads glued together. like this...

I have borrowed the idea from fex22763 over on Work In Progress

This is what I did yesterday (while activity not watching the Eurovision song contest...)

put the turret together and started on some detailing. Lots more to do, but at least it looks a bit like the real deal

The tracks I intended to use did not work... i did not like how it looked and in any case I did not have enough of them... so I built my own, simple but effective in my opinion

the turret is ... a few details left to be done

The rest of the model is also nearing completion...

H.B.M.C. wrote:You could probably buy enough plasticard to make 50+ of those for the cost of my Machariuses.

Does look good though. The high turret is interesting. Much higher than the actual kit.

thanks! I think I have spent about the equivalent of 35 USD on plasticard on this build (and a lot of bits and pieces from my bitbox)

what are the dimensions of the original? Mine is 13 centimetres wide and about 20 centimetres long. the turret is roughly 2 centimetres high and 6 centimetres wide (we use the metric system in Sweden so I don't do inch and foots and stuff... ) It would be interesting to see how close to the original I have come

Gundam-Mecha wrote:Fantastic scratch building on this project!

The tank looks great, and I also really like the clever solutions like gluing two sets of tracks together...

Interesting!

thanks man!
But I have to admit that the track thing it wasn't really my idea... and I didn't even use it...

Gundam-Mecha wrote:Fantastic finished product, my only crit would be the tracks... Personally I feel they are the only weak link at the moment in an amazing project. I would have gone with some 1/35 scale tracks.

You can get plenty of component sets that are just packs of treads, metal, resin, or plastic that would fit really well.

son of a ! I didn't even think of that! that would have looked much better. Maybe next time...

I'm taking a brake from the macharius project... I just got my imperial guard order from my online flgs and the plan is to put all the new stuff together and give it a coat of colour before I start doing some serious painting

Here is the first stuff I put together and sprayed a coat of paint on so far...

I always wanted rough riders in my army... but did not like the thought of having horse cavalry in my (more or less...) mechanised army. So I ordered some space marine scout bikes and used some guard torsos from my bitbox... and this is the result so far (and yeah I noticed the mould lines... camera puts on 5 pounds...)

I was thinking about what should represent the hunting lances... and so far I have come up with the following: some kind of explosive device that is thrown against the enemy in the first round of cc... or maybe driving a bike with 1 meter wide tires straight in to an enemy unit is enough to represent the S5 power weapon attack.
Any thoughts?

here is the last two bikes...

some close combat...

and a flamer... not sure about the placement of the flamer, but it will have to do...

after reading the codex I noticed that storm troopers cant use vox casters any more and since I equipped my storm trooper squads with voxes...
like this little fellow (I use these guys as count as storm troopers...)

I decided to cut them of in order to get my army up to codex standard....

then I noticed that my command squad veterans or veteran sergeants can't use plasma- or boltpistols any more and that my missile launchers can't be on separate bases... lot of fine tuning to do!

What imperial guard army would be complete without some psychicpowers? So I went down to my parents basement and dug out my old psyker figure that I had hidden away down there...

meet my future primaris psyker

an to my joy i found this bonus! I thought I lost him a long time ago...

an old old old school GW Astropath

Both models will get a bath in some acetone to get rid of the last paint...

I actually bought that model in my flgs... so now you can figure out how long I played 40K

The pace you've worked on that scratchbuild is great as well. I really like the Master of Ordnance which sprue has the servo skull on it?

Thanks!

The heads are from west wind productions Secrets of the Third Reich line.

here is some more WIP

yeah I hope so! It was kind of a to get smooth and nice

here is a WIP on my version of Colonel Iron hand Starken...

It's parts from the cadian and the catachan command spruces and a shot gun from the space marine scout bike

I used the bionic arm from the cadian command sprue... but I had to "reverse" it to get it to fit whit the scout shotgun arm. There is a bit of fine-tuning left to do...

Gundam-Mecha wrote:You know if you felt so inclined you could always just remove what you currently have and upgrade. Might take a little work but the end result would make a great Tank outstanding.

hmm that is an idea... do you know how wide are the Churchill track? they have to be 2 cm to fit the tank...

I found my old epic emperator titan in a box in my parents basement and thought that the weapons on it would look nice on a leman russ...

said and done...

behold my new Punisher Gatling Cannon

I have used magnets to attach it... the Executioner Plasma Cannon is on it's way

And the magnets made it possible to do yet an other variant...

Exterminator Autocannons... but they look a bit puny

Automatically Appended Next Post:
the the Executioner Plasma Cannon is done... but I am not that pleased whit it! it looks a bit to big and bulky. I don't know if it is the small Leman russ turret that makes the cannon look to big or if I went overboard when I made it...

Well what do you say
