Hi Folks,

I thought I'd post this here as well as on WargamerAU...

I recently decided to build a Titan. The original plan was to build a Reaver from the cardboard plans, then I looked into building an Imperator (which I decided was too impractical & the gaming group wasn't too keen on it), so it became a Warlord.

While researching the Warlord, I spotted the Leviathan Crusader by Dream Forge. My first reaction was that it wasn't a GW Warlord design, so I ignored it. The next day I was told that there were cardboard plans for it as per this at Tanks & Trolls. So I tracked down the plans & made a quick start...

The plans build this:

I decided to build it from plasticard. I managed to buy a couple of 1400x700x1mm sheets from a local plastics supplier for about $8 (Australian) a couple of years ago & they're screaming to be used on this project!

First up was building a toe (June 7th):

June 9th saw a leg:

Hips on June 10th (There's a 5/16" threaded rod running right through the hips. There's a nyloc nut on one end, but the other will just have a standard nut, so the legs can be removed for storage):

This is the latest photo. Hopefully today I'll have the central church done:

And there's plenty more to come...

Cheers,
Jim.

Its looking good so far, very stompy. I'm curious, how sturdy is it?

It's suprisingly sturdy. Because I've run the rod through plastic tubes, it all locks together quite well.

This is a shot through one of the hip pieces to give you an idea.

Looking very nice.

Will you be adding a lot of detail when the build is complete?

Yes, the plan is to use some of the GW building pieces, along with Hirst Arts pieces for decoration.

Most of the top pieces are held on with sticky tape, but it gives you an idea.

Very cool!

Bet you are wishing now you had a CNC machine to cut the card out! That's a lot of cuts!

Next pic:

The rooves at the back are resin (I made 1 from plasticard & cast it up), as is the Adeptus Mechanicus symbol by the feet (that is from off the cityfight terrain). I'll use the AdMech symbol on the end caps for the hips.

The head has the start of the Magic Sculpt on it. I still need to sand it off. That stuff is so much easier to work with than green stuff.

Okey dokey then...next update!

Here's a shot from the back. Over the last day or so, I've created casts of the rooves, the top pieces for the legs & some of the cityfight pieces. I've also made a good start on the shoulders.

The tops of the legs are solid resin. I need to get a larger drill bit so I can countersink the bolts. I also need to make an end-cap to cover the bolts.

Here's a shot of the back of the pelvis. It uses some of the cityfight casts. The panel is held on with rare earth magnets (in the corners), so I can access the inside of the pelvis.

And a shot of the inside. Here you can see the rod that goes up through the torso & the tube that the leg rod passes through. Having the tube through the pelvis stops the pelvis from being crushed if the bolts are too tight.

The rest of the magnets for the panel are behind the side bits of angle.

This is fantastic! Have you considered altering the final product slightly so that it has batteries of weapons on its shoulders?

I've been trying to work out where to put the carapace weapons & on top of the shoulders is one of the spots. Basically replace the rooves with gun emplacements.

Cool! I think the Planetstrike boxes may have guns that would work well instead of the pointy-roof bits, like the lascannon-y thing on the Imperial Bastion, or the quad-gun from the Aegis Defence Line.

Okey dokey...here's the latest pics...

This is the end cap for the hips, along with a shot of the magnets.

Here's a shot of the ping-pong ball glued to the foot (sorry about the focus):

And a shot up the leg. The hole fits on the ping=pong ball on the foot & needs to be araldited on. I need to fill between the central leg support & the external armour. The armour is a bit flimsy so I'd like to strengthen it up.

Getting there...

I've filled the left leg with plaster. Sanded & started work on the head. Finished a shoulder until I work out what's happening with the carapace weapons...

My own little happy place

Your building that very quickly, and it looks awesome you could probably pump these things out if you never ate, drank, and slept.

I tried being normal but it's boring so now I'm back to being insane

The 2nd shoulder is done.

I still need to fill the right leg with plaster & glue the feet on. I may have to glue the legs on as well because the weight of the top is enough to rotate the body on the hips,no matter how tight I have the nut on the hip piece.

I have some ideas for the head. The eye I did made it look like some crazed wrestling mask, so I took that one off.

The bolts through the shoulders are for the arms to hang from.

Getting there...

Things have been a bit slow this week, but I'm back into it.

A friend has kindly donated a FW Plasma Blastgun to the project. I'm going to make a pill box style turret on top of the shoulders for the carapace weapons.

I've been toying with the design for the head. Here's some pics of where I'm at.

That plasma blastgun looks tiny enxt to your creation!

Are you sure you're not building an Imperator Titan?

Nice stuff!

It's funny, I've gotten the same comments about the plasma gun on WargamerAU as well.

It's one of the carapace weapons, so when it's on a turret on top of the shoulder, the size is ok.

Here's a couple of shots of the mounted plasma blastgun.

I'll build the rest of the turret around it today sometime.

This next shot shows the start of the gap filling & the detailing. I'm using the Tanks & Trolls Chaplain version for heavy inspiration.

Here's the turret piece. I'll glue the outer piece on, but the gun will be removable so I can change weapons if I wish.

I've also added some of the board & batten sheeting to the roof pieces.

Edited for spelling...

I've been working on the elbow joint.

First up, I made the plastic piece & put a 5" bolt in to go up through the shoulder piece. I then filled over the bolt head with resin to hold the bolt in place.

Once that was done, I could add in the plastic tube for the elbow bolt & seal up the elbow piece (the tape is there while the plastic glue dries).

There's a washer between the elbow & the shoulder so the arm can pivot.

I'll set up the weapon arms to be interchangeable.

And here's the start of a Volcano Cannon...

The barrel is removeable so different weapons can be used.

I'm thinking of changing the shape of the arm a bit, but I've been sidetracked by working on Overlord2 (tournament software) again...
