A distasteful choice of "warrior cultures" IMO

It made more sense than pitting a Spartan hoplite against a ninja.

I still laugh at the one where they say that the Russian Spetz is better then the US Green Beret. Think your rambo was bad? One guy at the end takes on and kills almost the entire Green Beret team

The Hoplite v. Ninja was some of the dumbest TV I've ever seen.

The Green Beret v. Spetznaz was just pointless. Once you get two forces of highly trained, well equipped men going toe to toe the result will almost invariably come down to luck, numbers, and support.

Pretty awful taste. Not much else to say about it.

The whole premise of "WHO WOULD WIN IN A FIGHT?" is ridiculous. It's something to talk about when you're bored or smashed but making it this serious is a little bit much.

Its actually on Spike TV

History and TLC get such gems as Ice Road Truckers, The Biggest Catch, and Pitchmen.

The only thing I like about the warrior show is watching them 'test' the different weapons. Rather than do the same test for each weapon- they'll have one guy whack a fake human torso. The next guy hacks at a pig or cow carcass. No consistency.

Well, this isn't much unlike Weapons Masters, Weaponology, DEATH MACHINES (hurrr) and those other horrible over the top unbiased programs they keep pushing these days.

The only show I really enjoy is Deadliest Catch, Ice Road Truckers is just a horrible, horrible rip off.

Yea its inconsistent but some of the tests are really cool and surprising. Viking mail standing up to a Katana. Inversely the killing efficacy of a Viking sword was comparable. Me impressed.

What I'd realy like to see is Roman or Knight vs. Samurai. That would be epic.

Pirates vs. Ninjas would be good too, but it would open the Seventh Seal and we can't have that until I've maxed out my credit cards...

I think pirates v. ninjas was the pilot episode.

This is the type of stuff I get to watch when I work overnight at the gym.

Edit: Nope, pirate v. knight.

No Spartans vs. Ninjas was the first. Zantar though the Ninja was jipped but Genghis Connie was firmly on the side of the Spartan. Quality family entertainment

Here's how it goes.

Ninja<Spartan=Knight<Pirate.
So pirates beat ninjas.

Most of these match ups are an apples vs oranges sort of thing.

Theyre making straight up fights in cases where their wouldnt be one. They're only accounting for the weapons and some mild technique inclusions if the 'experts' they find happen to do something they consider cool during 'testing'.

They make no allownaces at all for the strategy/tactics. Example:

The ninja wouldnt fight the spartan toe to toe. He stab him in his sleep or poison his food.

Theyre basically doing a flashy equivalent of the old D&D standby of a pointless bar fight. Side A walks in and sees Side B. Fight ensues, dice are rolled.

Very few of these historical warriors were so mentally inadequate that they would walk into a fight as the show often presents thier re-enactments.

The viking's "special weapon" was a shield. Because you can bash stuff with it.

It lost to the samurai's special weapon (a giant club) on account of having less offensive power. Because, you know, it's a shield. You can't make stuff like this up...

Frazzled wrote:What I'd realy like to see is Roman or Knight vs. Samurai. That would be epic.
If we're talking about no gunpowder, melee combat, with platemail for the knight, he'll win easily. The armor is just a huge difference, and there's not much else separating the two.

As for a legionnaire, I'm not sure. I'd put my money on a samurai in a one on one fight, I think legionaries did better as a formation.

This fits into the same, "Who would win a fight between the Hulk and Thor?" category.

The Knight vs. Pirate was to me, the 'jump the shark' moment. Newer technology (gunpowder) beats older tech (knight)? I never would have guessed! That knights were not 'in the field' after development and widespread use of gunpowder was kinda a hint.

I did like the Viking vs Samurai comparison, and even the Apache vs. Gladiator (although, the bow heavily influenced that outcome too). Zulu vs. Scotsman wasn't too bad either. They need to stick to warriors of similar eras and opposite sides of the world.
