So, just as I feared, Space Wolves have become the new bandwaggon. How annoyed does this make my fellow Real Space Wolf players feel. By real, I mean the ones who stuck with the Wolves throughout, not the ones who went "oooooh shiny!"

IMO it makes me sad, especially that now my beloved army of 10 years is decried as "OMFG YOU N00b!" whenever I go and play. Yes, a whole 1 day and it has started

Depending on what new minis come out with the new 'nid codex, I might start a small SW force. It'd be primarily for fluff purposes though. Would that make me a band wagonnier?

...well seriously, especially you Gwar!, what made you think this WOULDN'T happen? I'm no SW player, but it was pretty obvious that this would be another "Oh look, new codex released! Must have!" release, as was the Guard codex when it first came out (but not as much so). People are drawn into the new stuff, even though they never cared about it before, so SW will be the popular one for a little while, until people realize and get hyped up for the next one (Tyranids supposedly?)

I just started playing last December. I Looked at all the armies and said "I want to play space wolves". Then I was told a new codex was coming out. I almost feel like I should not play them now because I hate being on the bandwagon.

I tried to jump the band wagon , i really did.

But the codex is so bald , that i prefer the tons of options generic marines get.

I tried to love the models as well ( then i can atleast use them as count as generic marines )

But no , they have the ugliest looking hair.

I think i'll go for a terminator heavy army , no exposed heads either.

My club isn't big enough to have a bandwagon. We have one Space Wolves player and that's the way we like it. After all, we can't all be the butt of every joke.

Hasn't stopped me from ordering a copy of his codex though. I'm watching him

The worst part is that I'm between gaming clubs and have only been playing my wolves with friends lately. Ah well, at least I have the older models!

I suspect it will be worse if/when the blood angels codex comes out. Something about red marines screams OMG MAXIMUM POWERFUL to kids.

What makes you anymore of a "real" space wolf player than anyone else playing them? You might be considered a veteran, but what makes a "real" Space Wolf player?

What's wrong with people exploring a new army which just about any person would want to play but haven't because it was old or because it was a pain to buy metal models (I realize there are a myriad of other reasons).

I mean let's take a look at Space Wolves;

Scandinavian Viking themed army- Check
Wolves of Badassery- Check
Best fluff in all of the 40k Universe- Check
Based off Paganism which most teen males turn to in order to spite (Parents, Priest, Authorative Figure) or because they genuienly believe in the most badass religion to exist- Check

Let's face it, something this badass is something everyone wants, even when they say they don't.

So instead of being angry at the newfags who go "OMFGNEWSTUFF MUST BATE TO NAO!" Make your army nice, learn the fluff by heart, gather your army around the table, give a rousing speech, and then crush the bandwaggoners beneath your British Boot of Badassery!

I'm jumping on the bandwagon only because the SW book let's me play my old marine army in much more the way I used too, where as the current marine book would have made me redo it almost completely.

Lets see:
Have the 2nd edition codex: Check
Have the 3rd edition Codex: Check
Played 2nd ed Wolves: Check (I admit, it was only a few games and I was a young kid, so not much Experience here, but some nonetheless!)
Played Space Wolves through 3rd edition: Check
Played Space Wolves in 4th even though the 4th edition SM codex could make a much more effective Space Wolves Lite: Check
Played Space Wolves in 5th even though the 5th edition SM codex was 9001 times better: Check
Have collected nothing but Space Wolves since starting The Hobby (bar a single squad of Guardsmen which were supposed to be for a 1st Armageddon War campaign but never came out the box): Check

So if I don't play an army from when it first came out that makes me a "fake" _____ Army player?

That's the equivalent of saying "If you didn't have intercourse while she was a virgin then you didn't have real intercourse. Although you did everything you do in normal intercourse you didn't do it with virginity"

I find your logic strange, but I can see where your coming from. Look on the bright side, most of them will quit and sell the remnants of their army cheap, thus increasing your force if you want to buy some more.

Ok so let's say a new game called "Warhammer 80,000" comes out, it's really bad ass and makes you want to come buckets.

You take a look at the armies and their model series, You decide on one you really like and you buy a starter box and a codex the same day the game comes out.

Just as you make your purchase a Bear, made of 75% whatthefethery and 25% shutthefethuppery, runs up, kicks you in the place where no man should be kicked and screams in your ear

"YOU'RE A FAKE PLAYER FOR BUYING A CODEX THE DAY IT COMES OUT"

Do you see the error of your logic?

New Game != New Codex.

A newbie who buys Space Wolves ignorant of the fact they are the new thing is excusable. It's not his fault.

What annoys me are the people who go "HURRR HURRR SPESS WHOLVES" and try and pass themselves off as real SW fans.

And I agree with you, but what makes a real fan? It's like going, "I'm the biggest fan" and then some new guy going "No, I am!" How do you measure who is the real biggest fan?

Common sense? The guy who has played exclusively Space Wolves for 10 years through thick and thin is a better fan than some guy who went "oooooh shiny Hurrr Tactical Genius Hurrrrrr!" perhaps?

If I'm not mistaken, common sense tells us the world is flat. . .

Let's take this Scenario,

"I've listen to Rammstein for 3 years and I'm a fan of their stuff" -Me
and then
"I've listened to Rammstein for 3 weeks and I'm suicidal for their stuff, I got a tattoo, an offcial mug and I have the Lead guitar's underwear that I bought off of Ebay" -Some other guy

Just because I listen (in your case play) to Rammstein (Space Wolves) for a longer time does not make me the bigger fan.

Or has the meaning of "common" changed since I came back from the lav?

I think i know your feeling, I'm the only Nidz player in my group and and a guy wants to start them i can only feel it is because of the new codex coming and that Nidz are maybe going to be horribly OP till the next codex comes along.

However i myself have brought the space wolf codex and i'm falling in love with the fluff and characters. I keep asking myself do i really like them or am i on the bandwagon.

Nidz or Space Wolves I DON'T KNOW
