The other day when I was at my FLGS, I snagged an IG Chimera for the sole purpose of making a Looted Wagon. I've got a unit of 10 Burna Boys that I'd like to get across the table fast, and what better way then a Looted Wagon with complimentary skorcha?

This is my very first conversion, and as such my first time ever working with plasticard (I'm completely new at 40K, only got into it about 2 months ago or so). Hopefully it'll turn out alright, and I'll make sure to keep this updated as I progress.

The first shot of my up-and-coming Wagon! The little hatch in the back is the rear of the Chimera, and I plan on gluing the little door open so that I can have a Grot leaning out and yelling at the driver, shooters, or passengers (doesn't matter which)!

Just a shot showing the armor on the other side of the wagon.

Any tips, suggestions, or comments are welcome!

It's complicated."

Looks ok so far, my suggestion would be to get smaller pieces of plasticard and layer it a bit more, randomize it was smaller plate sections and what not.

The distressing on the edges of your plates is nice, but the plates themselves are too big and haphazard. Orks are sloppy, but not that sloppy.

Make them a bit smaller, and add lots of bolts/rivets. Styrene rod works great for this. They also sell hex styrene that makes a great bolt head.

Also looks cool when the plates are clearly parts of a recognizable kit, but then bolted on the side. For example, the roof hatch for a Rhino, torn up a bit, then bolted to the side of a Chimera.

An interesting start, but I would decrease the size of the plates! The distressing on the edges is highly effective though.

Have you seen George Dellapina's ork transports? They're a good example of haphazard ork welding.

Keep it up, and keep posting pics!

So I did a bunch more work on my wagon tonight! Figured I'd post the pics up.

I pulled the original armor plates off and re-cut them to make them look better - I realized that everyone was right about them being way too big. Here's the resized right side.

And here's the resized left side.

Added one of the halves of the barrel that came with the Chimera kit to the front to make it look like some Skorcha fuel, as well as cover up the one gun hole that I wasn't sure how to cover otherwise.

A shot of the door where the Grot Rigger's going to be popping out of.

What the hell are these things? They're supports I made from the Chimera's side armor...

To hold this up! I made this by first cutting a T-shaped piece of plasticard out, then covering it with 2 pieces of textured plasticard, then gluing on the boxes and railing (the boxes were random scenery pieces I found at a hobby store, the railing's from an old model kit I never wound up putting together).

A shot of the custom backing I made to hide the big open area that was left after I cut most of the roof away. The doors and barrel are again from the Chimera kit - more Skorcha fuel, as well as a top-off for any Burna boys!

Honostly I think the outiside armour looks better.. but it still needs a few smaller pieces randomly around it and some rivits everywhere. The inside looks ace though so this should turn out very clean!

I definitely like what you've done with extending the rear section. Personally, though, I think you need to find your perfect orky middle ground. The sides are a bit too clunky and patchwork and the rear is too clean. This project has some real potential, though. Keep posting progress.

Its looking pretty good. And Im stealing the barrel over the heavy bolter hole. I used a chimera for a looted boom gun tank, and never really thought about closing up that big square hole lol.

Only did a tiny bit on it tonight after work, but here's the results - I Ork-ified the Chimera's turret to better represent a Skorcha, since the standard turret looked far too weedy!

For the barrel, I hacked apart one of the spare Loota guns that I had lying around - I tried to find the one that would look closest to a Skorcha barrel. All the rest of the gubbins are just bitz from the Boyz sprue. For the little Waagh! pole, I just hacked off the radio antenna and glued on one of the bosspoles from the Boyz sprue - it's a perfect fit!

I was actually planning on doing something like that, once I find the right way to do it! I'm sure I can find some kind of little tubing/cable looking thing lying around somewhere around here.

Can't wait for my battlewagon kit to show up so I can get the bitz from it; I'm planning on leaving the turret hatch open so the tank commander can be screaming and pointing to something - I'm sorely tempted to try my hand at greenstuffing just so I can give him a commisar hat. Perhaps an Orky version of the classic "Drive me closer I want to hit them with my sword?"

Although it really wouldn't be that far off for the Orks...

Looking great! Rivets on your external plate would really make them look awsome.

And might I add that a 10 man squad of Burna Boys in an open topped vehicle is just nasty..... Roll up next to a squad that just disembarked, and WAM! 80 hits with flamers!

Looks good!

Keep on bangin! More layers of armour! Would look better if you brought the plating right out to the eges and in places just over, right down to the ground nearly aswell, and rivets yes.

My looted wagon is a bit more 'recently looted', did get to adding too much to it, but I want to make my own battlewagon.

When its finished post it in the Looted Wagon article I created!

That is a really great conversion. I first saw the plated rear platform, and thought it wasn't Orky enough, the work was so good! I think the turret is awesome, I'm a huge fan of plastic kitbashing. Can't wait to see it in its entirety!

Update time! I stopped working on this for a bit to try and work on assembling my Boyz, so that once I have everything together I can prime them all en masse. Luckily, I almost have everything together, and so I picked up some greenstuff at my FLGS today to try my hand at it! I decided to GS a hat onto my tank commander, who was made up from one of the hatch bodies from the Battlewagon + the crane operator's pointing arm, a choppa arm from the Boyz sprue, and the one-eyed Nob head from the Boyz sprue (I cut off the top-knot to get the head ready for the hat). I think it came out pretty well!

The finished result! I'm pretty pleased with how the whole "Drive Me Closer" thing came out, as it was what I was aiming for!

Shot of the Grot Rigger popping out of his little hatch on the side there!

Oi! What're you lot doing to my zoggin' tank?

Shot of the reinforced ram, which is simply an upside down version of the Battlewagon Ram.

Shot of the interior again! I added some side panels to cover up the little plastic things that the Chimera's roof and such rest on, and also added a Rokkit pack from the Boyz sprue onto it, as it adds a little bit more flavor to the inside! Gotta have ammo for your passengers!

The other side of the interior, with some Ammo gubbins!

The front looks great, and it seems to have been almost a perfect fit (seems like several races in 40k have a standard wheelbase to their vehicles haha).

What clan are you planning on painting this up as?

Thread necromancy!

So I've been super slow on painting pretty much everything. I got a ton of stuff for Christmas that I've put together, but due to classes/work/etc, painting has gone to the wayside. I've been working on getting the Wagon up to snuff, but it's been slow coming, perhaps a little bit of paint added every week. But it's getting there! There's not too much left to paint on it - mostly just the Grot and the Rokkit Pack that I threw into the crew compartment, and then add some red stripes for the RPJ.
