Now I'm new to fantasy and don't have a hold for all the rules. but i was planing a game with my friend who is also new to fantasy with his goblins and for causes he had a bout load of fanatics.
Now the question here is if he roll a hit on the scatter dose he choose were the fanatic goes or dues it follow the little arrow on he symbol.
i have look in the Orks and Goblins army book and it does not say and even in the FAQ but my friend this he is right in regards to the above question.

I'm almost positive that somewhere in the rules it states that you use the small arrow on the Scatter Die: After you release the Fanatics, you never have a say in where they go again. Hence why the initial throw is very important.

Both Nosferatu and Misc are correct. I've played Orcs and Goblins for the last 5 years and you never choose direction after the initial release from the regiment.

On the turn they are released you can choose what direction (his mates give him a push) though this needs to be in the front arc. This appleis if an enemy unit strays within 8". After that though you use the scatter dice.
As for terrain, they die when they hit it, and are not slowed by hills.
That's how i've always played it.

I have also played it where hills (if clearly defined before the game as open terrain) do not kill the fanatic.
If the hill feature is defined as difficult terrain, then the fanatic goes poof.
Thats my 2 cents

Eldar Own is wrong on fanatic initial release. They can be released from any point AND in any direction from the unit regardless of facing. That's how the rather beardy slingshot works by bending the rules. As for the hills blowing up the little git of death, that has been up for debate for a while but I always played it as difficult/impassable == poofed fanatic.

Any terrain technically kills fanatics, but it's a very common house rule/widespread convention to not count non-difficult hills for that purpose.

Difficult terrain on hills (i.e piles of reocks or a tree on a hill) WILL kill a fanatic.
A regular hill will not.

I've never seen anyone let fanatics go over hills as it's clearly stated they die if they touch them. I don't know where anyone would get that they are fine when the army book says...
..if it comes in contact with a terrain feature of any kind.
Maybe they could do it in the last edition O&G book and people can't let it go
From a fluff standpoint- try running up or down a hill swinging what the fanatics do and see if you'll be OK.
*Disclaimer- you'll probably get hurt so don't blame me.*

The rules state that terrain as a whole kills them.
So yes, even a small hill is terrain, so in turn would kill them.
However, i look past this.
If i play someone who uses fanatics i ignore hills (unless its difficult terrain) when it comes to fanatics being killed.
also, in most tournies ive never heard of fanatics being killed by hills.
So im happy to go by this as RAI rather than a strict RAW.

I don't have BRB on me, but are hills terrain? What about real hills as opposed to the stylized hills usually used. At what grade does the fanatic die? Are roads terrain? They don't affect fantasy games by the book but if they are on the table they are terrain. Would a fanatic explode if it touched a road? How about a bridge? Can a fanatic cross a bridge?
RaW says terrain so I guess as soon as the fanatic touches long grass he asplodes but I think you really need to step back and clarify the impacts of terrain before battles. (Happens a lot any way, to clarify difficult/impassable/ there is a clear path kinda stuff)
edit: opps did not notice the dates on this, man, there aren't that many fantasy YMDCs, this is on the first page

As discussed earlier in the thread, the Fanatic rules say "terrain", but they don't go any further than that. I’ve seen arguments about roads and hills on other boards too. It’s worth discussing with your opponent before the game. IME it seems that a very common house rule or convention is only to count features which affect movement.

I just look at as when the fanatic hits the hill the ball gets embedded in the ground and he is thrown over hard. Makes sense but more often we just agree before the game that any terrain kills fanatics to rule out queries

So if you are lucky to play on something as awesome as these, where do fanatics asplode when they touch "terrain"?
The first one would be impossible to come to an agreement as its a small and very busy photo but how about the second one...
-River bed: at the water, at the drop, at the brown?
-That bush: would it kill a fanatic?
-That slight rough patch of dirt before the stakes?
-That track path?
-The flock?
-The square in the middle of the.... garrison on the right? I'd say its open terrain, but that means it is terrain... fanatic asplodE!
Yes I'm being sardonic (go thesaurus) but I don't have my BRB on me and don't know the GW definition of terrain. Terrain only makes sense when playing with stylized terrain on nice bases where there IS a clearcut line of terrain/no terrain. for YMDC, I'd say RaI is rough/difficult terrain. If you can charge up/down it easily in full plate armor while carrying a great sword, I think a fanatic can manage it too.

I would say
-River Bed: I'd D6 it, on a 1 he falls in. It could be argued either way, and honestly, I don't care.
-Bush: No
-Rough Dirt in front of stakes: Now, if he hits the stakes, yes sir.
-Track Path:No
-The Flock: No
-Square in Garrison: Yes (Though any of those very large buildings will kill him)

Alright, you are using common sense, I like common sense... but as an argumentative that likes playing devil's advocate...
- House rule. Can't comment besides that house rules aren't valid for a YMDC point of view.
- Why not? If I had a man sized model or 2 hiding behind it I would use it as soft cover, and soft cover is terrain, and should kill a fanatic.
- If that rough patch was on its own base, even if it was just for looks, it would be terrain on the table...wouldn't it?
- Yeah, I can't make myself argue this one very well besides "It's terrain"
- he he he, I think I'll try this sometime, on a Realm of Battle board maybe.
- Why not? I'm being TFG and a rules lawyer. Why not? "Don't try your common sense on me, I'm immune!"
