Alrighty then. Obama is going to "finish the job in Afghanistan". Isn't that what Bush wanted to do with Iraq that brought so much hate from the left wing?

How are the lefties going to justify this little plan of Obamas now that it's essentially the same thing but a different region?

They're not. They'll act like it's not even happening and pretend that anyone questioning it is blowing it out of proportion. The right will yell and scream. Just like how if our next president is on the R side, the libs will yell at him and the repubs will pretend nothing wrong is happening.

Impossible. There is almost no mention of nachos, "tex-mex," or "keysadillos that are so hot they are nukular" in the link.

I'd suggest they'll use that.

Great points. I do believe, however, that Obama actually had always said he would finish the job in Afghanistan and Iraq and get our troops out as fast as possible. He was for more decisive action, not letting us stay mired.

I do know he did shy away from direct details regarding Afghanistan and Iraq later on in the campaign and focused on just getting our troops home but honestly ALL POLITICIANS will assume a more moderate stance in line with popular opinion the closer they get to the actual election.

I really can't tell what the administration is pushing at these days, everything is hiding behind something else.

I heard something about targeting the 'personally affected' terrorists (lost family, kill america; that kinda thing...), rather than the idealistically driven fanatics. Proving to any terrorist that the U.S. is actually helping (not trying to, actually doing so), is a practically impossible feat in my minds eye.

Dunno really, this war has gone on far enough, and I cannot imagine a pragmatic reason to stay in Afghanistan longer than four more years... man... four more years... even that seems very unreasonable to me.

Oh, I absolutely agree (which makes this whole thing somewhat ironic), I just wanted to point out that it is a very "popular" thing to assume Obama (or any politician for that matter) is doing the exact opposite of what he said and the same things his un-liked predecessor did. I think (whether through the media, propaganda, our own rumor-mongering, whatever) we all like to distill down what a politician is and is not for.

I think most Americans weren't prepared for a President that uses his brain to make decisions. After sixteen years of Bush's ideology and Clinton's groin running things it is unusual.

Finish the job, eh? What job are we finishing? Is the plan to systematically carpet bomb all the various tribal region that support groups vaguely reminiscent of terrorists?

Not the best choice of words. Though I doubt it will matter much in a political sense.

Has no one noticed we are effectively pulling out of Iraq? Succesfully or not, IDK, since the media seems more content focusing on only 1 of 2 wars at the time. Its like martial action ADD or something.

Also, I believe the threat of Unspecifiedistan is the greatest.. um... threat.

"Finish the job" as in winning the victory we almost had before Bush pissed it away so he could have his adventure in Iraq.

Well, does Afghan have a Wal-mart? Wal-mart means the end of any nation so if we see a Wal-mart go up than we'll know we finished over there.

Hey you can always become a one party dictatorship, communist, or african warlords.

1. Obama has said from the get go. Afghanistan was the war we were supposed to be focusing on. It's a war we had under control until the Iraq missteps.

Ok now for me to put on my Sgt. cap

Combat operations in Iraq ended earlier this year june 30th,

"US forces have completed a withdrawal from major Iraqi cities and towns on today’s deadline to hand formal control to the Iraqi military. Iraq has declared a national holiday to mark the pullout, and celebrations have been underway nationwide. Iraq’s Foreign Minister, Hoshyar Zebari, called the pullback a victory for national sovereignty.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari: “Definitely this is a significant day, and it is the first practical implementation of the agreement on the withdrawal of troops signed by the Iraqi government. No one has to play down the importance of this day or the importance of the withdrawal. This is the first step that will help pave the way for a full withdrawal of the American and foreign forces from Iraq.”

At Dogma, the Conditions for victory in afghanistan are as follows, Leave a government and security forces that's stable, kill or capture enough terrorist leaders to permanently disable the major network, leave a force able to secure the border to Pakistan.

Are some of those goals hard to reach? Yes, but damn it it's better than having no plan like the past 8 years. The Us military can win this war, all we an do is train their military enough to keep things together after we leave, point blank.

What people don't understand abut the Iraq surge is that along with troops sent into the meat grinder, we sent over 1,000 trainers to teach the Iraqis to fend for themselves.

(takes off military hat and puts on political cap/dunce cap) Is Obama taking a page out of the Bush book? Maybe. Or maybe this is what his Generals say is the best choice and he is heeding their advice. Point is some points of the surge had great Ideas, It would be dumb not to use a good idea because the other party used it. I don't give a good hot-damn who came up with a good idea we need this war ended and lives save.

Turning down a good idea just because the other side thought of it is a conservative hall-mark.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole
