So here's my newest version, ver. 2.0, of my vehicle craters I've created. I sculpted them with wax and cast them in a strong resin. I've painted them to match up well with both the standard GW board types, Desert and City.

After lots of play testing, I really think they are a great blend of form and function

Here's the 4 crater set that my gaming group and I are pretty happy with.

This is the medium crater with 10 25mm figures standing in and around the edge of the crater, the LR (large crater) can fit 10 40mm figures on it

My group has talked me into selling them on ebay so I guess we'll see what everyone else thinks soon enough, but I would really like to hear what everyone here thinks.

Cool idea. I like that they correspond to a type of vehicle so you won't have any trouble placing them without moving other models, and it's a nice clean paint job.
I don't know if I'd buy them, mainly because they seem a little short, but it's a good idea that I might try myself.
Thanks for sharing.

Thanks
yeah, with a buddy running IG I created them so I could replace a crater with a Russ or Chimera within his close armor line. It's also nice to have a crater figures can actually stand on and walk over as well.

WOW!! They look great. I really like the size of them and how they work with the vehicle sizes. The way units can actually stand on them is really cool too.

Thanks Meltaboy!
I was just wondering, how many craters does everyone else end up using per game? I usually end up using 4-7 in our 2k games but I'm heavy transports and I play vs IG so...

Those are quite nice. They have the similar footprint of a vehicle, while still able to place upright models on them. One failing of more scenic ones is that you end up with models laying on their sides because there's not enough room for them to all stand up, due to the furrowed ground.

Dugg,

I just want to let you know that, if these were purchasable individually (or in size-specific sets) I would definitely buy them. I could definitely use plenty of the Medium craters for my Mech IG.

You might want to consider selling them in groups of similar sizes. With all the ork Kanz and Dredz someone may need multiple dred sized craters with no rhino sized.

Also, I would be interested in 'unpainted' craters so I could match them to my army bases as well as adding bitz to show an Ork crater.

I have seen a few of these 'vehicle-explodes' craters pop up and I like the lack of vehicle bitz in them because it doesn't look right to me for a crater to have non GW-looking scrap in it.

I could see myself needing all 3 sizes...

My two vehicle-heavy armies are a dreadbash (11 walkers) or a trukk rush (5-6 trukks/tanks 1-2 BWs)

So I could see packs like that.

I would totally get 2 sets if you sell them for $20 a set. I might want to pick up a couple extra Rhino sized craters on top of that as well.

btw, I play SMs. I run Tactical and Sternguard in transports and sometimes a LR. We use about 4-6 craters a game I would say.

Thanks for the info Meltaboy. I was hoping I would get more ideas from everyone on the number of craters they average per game. I guess the average seems to be 3-5.

What kinda price would you be looking for with the unpainted craters? I'm finding myself needing some and I've been debating if I want to knock some together or just buy the darn things. If you're looking at a buck or two a crater I'd just as soon buy the things. Not sure what resin costs are so no clue how much it's costing you to make em, but I'd want probably 10 or so.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Yeah, look really good. If you sold them $20 a set, I would get them but most gamers I know would like them unpainted.

Okay, I've been on a bit of a hiatus 2011-14

love the design of them. the fact that they can stand is very key. in a game we tend to go trough 4-6 craters easy. so i would like to see if you are thinking of selling a set.

will be keeping an eye on these

Thanks again for the nice comments. I will start selling these. I think with the messages I've been getting I'll be selling them in packs really soon. I'll try to message those of you that posted here and PM me about prices as soon as I can lock down costs and what my pricing will be.

I just received my order of craters and they are made of really nice resin/plastic. They feel very durable compared to many other resin products I have seen.

I got mine unpainted so I can paint them up but the sizes are perfect. The small ones fit my walkers/buggies perfect. Medium fit my trukks, and looted imperial/marine tanks and the large fit my battlewagons.

I am very impressed in the ability for models to stand on the craters. You can either stand fully flat inside the crater or fully flat on the sculpted edges. Looks like it will work very very well with game mechanics.

When I paint them up I will post some pics.
