I have had the bitz in my boxes for a while to put a couple of looted Leman Russ style tanks together and I made some progress on them this weekend:







Still WIP as far as painting, as they are only base coated for the most part, although I did a little painting (crew, etc.) on the lead tank.

Rumor is that the Spearhead rules in the upcoming May WD might have rules for an Ork tank that bridges the gap between looted wagon and Battle Wagon, but that will have no model specified so ork players can kit-bash it, and I'm hoping (fingers crossed) that these will fit the bill, if not I have other uses for them.

I also have plans to build a third but I need to pick up a few more bits and a Russ chassis (may do double wide tracks on it) first.

Just happened to have the bits in your box, eh? I envy you. They look really good, not over done, yet not underdone. Usualy looted wagons end up looking like a mobile glyph store, but you've done it nicely.

Wow these are really nicely done , i especially like the one with the ork driver. I will certainly be keeping my eye on this one.

Got the turret bashed together for the third tank, sort of a quad barreled monstrosity.

Orks are the only species not to have developed chimneyless vehicles

Looking great. The slice of deff rolla replacing damaged tracks is fantastic, smartly done!

Tyranids still have chimneys. Guard and Marines still have upright tailpipes.

Plus I think orkz would like the billowing smoke more anyways.

As always your Ork vehicles look awesome. I really like the steam roller wheels replacing the track on the one. I cant wait to see the skullhammers. Youve GOT to put pics up of those

Just seeing this conversion. A question popped in my head that might be answered here. What model materials do you have to have to make an ork tank? Do you have to use warhammer 40k models and skillfully put them into a war machine or can you use any kind of model laying around like a world war tank not even related to warhamer?

I don't think I would consider a baneblade that is going to be made into a skullhamma tobe in the bitz box.

i guess that depends on if you bought a whole baneblade kit or if you have slowly been trading, bartering, and buying individual components and sprues from said model slowly over time since it's release...

I have seen some really skillful conversions of non-40K models into awesome ork tank conversions.

I have also seen lots of really gak/fail models that end up looking like toys with a bunch of random crap glued onto them.

Some people also have the skill/motivation to completely scratch-build a cool model from raw components (plasticard, etc.).

I consider myself mostly a "kit-basher" not a s"scratch-builder": I like to take kits and play around with them, modify them and add some things. I'm no master, but i try to give some attention to detail all the while attempting to be faithful to the army in question's established aesthetic.

In the end it all comes down to the skill/motivation of the builder I guess...
