Over the years, I've had a very on and off relationship with Star Trek. From my first few episodes in The Original Series to watching Deep Space Nine on Spike, I've always come back to the incredible sci-fi series. So, since I decided to dig out my old DVD box set of DS9 and start watching again, I figured it wouldn't be a bad idea to put up a topic in OT asking people of their favorite Star Trek series and moments within.
I don't know why, but despite all the love for TOS and TNG, my favorite series of all time was Deep Space Nine. I think it had something to do with me enjoying a Trek series that had recurring characters and villains, not just a whole bunch of alien species and conflicts as the Enterprise journeyed across the stars.
As for favorite moments, the all-time high for me was a DS9 episode (Forgot the name) which showed an alternate timeline when Benjamin got shocked and shunted out of normal time. Basically, the entire episode showed an aged Jake recollecting his memories of that day to several decades later, eventually reversing the event to save him. (Don't have the remotest idea how it happened, as it's been a long time since I saw it)
So, Dakka, what are your favorite moments in Star Trek history?
My Armies:
Kal'reia Sept Tau - Farsight Sympathizers Da Great Looted Waaagh! The Court of the Wolf Lords
TNG is my favourite got to love having a proper actor in the captains chair, Picard/Patrick Stewart got some neat scripts to show his talent to a different audience.
Chain of Command 1 and 2 have got to be some my favourite episodes.
There are so many moments, but I will keep it at 1.
TOS "This way to Eden". The scene where the space hippy sings
Heading out to Eden
Yea brother
Heading out to Eden
No more trouble in my body or my mind
Gonna live like a king on whatever I find
Eat all the fruit and throw away the rind
Yea brother, yea
2. From The Inner Light, makes me quite sniffly. Picard lived an entire lifetime as another man and watched his world die.
3. Not a moment, an entire episode of DS9. Duet. It's amazing, a brilliantly acted and written piece of television, it's real life message is powerful in terms of megatons. Harris Yulin deserves an oscar for his portrayal of Marritza/Darhe'el. If you've never seen it, watch this episode.
4. Anything with Q. Hilarious, John De Lancie is a comedy timing master.
Well I can't remember specific moments, as I haven't watched any TV trek for 10 years or more. All my great memories are of TOG, possibly because I saw them live on first transmission, then repeated several times over the next 40 years.
City on the Edge of Forever.
The one where they become Chicago gangsters
The one where they get into the parallel 'evil' universe by mistake
Trouble With Tribbles
The one with the Horta
The one where Spock's brain is surgically removed from his body.
The one where they arrive in a system which conducts simulated war followed by the 'casualties' going to a suicide station.
The one where the god Apollo appears.
The one with the invisible monster that turns you into a heap of salt.

Forgot about the inner light episode.
And yeah John de Lancie does have impeccable timing. Stewart has had his moments too.
I can't remember the episode name, but my favorite episode by far is the DS9 episode where Garrick and Cisco trick the Romulans into coming into the Federation-Dominion war on the side of the Federation...
Wow, talk about having to wrestle with the ends justifying the means!
"Mirror, Mirror" is pure awesomeness, too - mainly just to seee Evil Spock in a goatee!
...but for pure cheesiness, nothing can ever top Kirk running around screaming 'What have you done with Spock's BRAIN?!?!?'
Original Series - Well, not strictly correct, but the Wrath of Khan was frickin' awesome.
TNG - The first thing I thought of for ANY Trek Series was the episode MGS posted above, in which Picard lives an entire life as another person and learns to play the flute.
Best of Both Worlds, especially the bit MGS posted.
Anything with Q.
Anything without Wesley.
The one where they become the alternate dimension in which Natasha Yar is still alive.
Most bits with Data
DS9 - Anything with Quark.
Voyager - Any episode that focuses on the Doctor.
Enterprise - Never watched it.
The new film - Too much awesome. I nearly cried when Jame T. Kirk's father died. The only crap bit was where it went all George Lucas on the ice planet, and he just happens to land near Spock, and one thing eats the other thing that was about to eat him, then taht thing chases him, but it is afraid of fire. Yuck.
Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.
I love Captain Kirk. But DS9 is the best. exploring all the dark undersides that keep the Federation together. One of the best eps is "In a pale moon light. Where the tables are turn and Sisko ends up plotting the assassination of a Romulan diplomat with the help of Garrak. He was pissed when he found out he was duped but then said he would do it again. You must check this one out. I remember TV guide gushing over this one.
Garrak was the coolest trek charactor ever, BTW

In the Pale Moonlight" (working title: Patriot) is the 19th episode of the sixth season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. The episode has an average rating of 4.8/5 on the official Star Trek website (as of November 2, 2009), one of the highest rated episodes on the website, including all of the Star Trek series.[1]

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

TOS-Mirror/Mirror (The one with evil bearded pirate Spock).
TNG-All of them, particularly any involving Q,The Borg or Klingons.
I never watched many episodes of DS9 or Voyager, but I did enjoy Enterprise-(The "Mirror/Mirror episodes & the one that explained "what happened to Klingons" being my personal favorites).

DS9 had the most complex and awesome characters in it.
I'll state here and now that I am principally a Babylon5 and Farscape fan but I did enjoy DS9 very much (after a shaky start). Voyager was a poorer show by miles and Enterprise was also terrible, whilst I enjoyed 7o9 and T'Pol (especially T'Pol), both series lacked souls. The Doctor was a notable exception for voyager, but Harry 'Quim', Paris and Chakotay (and the awful Neelix fishdogman in a clown suit) were terrible.
DS9 however didn't have a dislikeable character in it, all were very competent actors and the scripts did indeed highlight more mature themes and a polished story arc (all thanks to Babylon5 I believe).
TNG was verymuch of it's age and portrays a 'Golden Age' of the Federation where peace has been reached with old enemies and the darkness of the coming of the borg and the dominion are still ahead of them.
DS9 is my favorite series of the Star Treks.
I totally despise the recent 'reimagining' movie, I consider it lazy and 'George Locust-ed'. The plot was written on the back of a postage stamp, the effects overblown and what it did to 30 years of Trek canon was flushed down the toilet in seconds.
Very hard to choose a favourite episode, even as (or perhaps because of being) a bit of a fanboy. Series, hands down is DS9 - I love the moral compromises of the latter part of the series, and In The Pale Moonlight sprung straight to my mind as well, if only for the very end ("I think I can live with it. Computer, erase log."). My favourite episode, however, is "Darmok" (TNG5.2): Picard stranded on a world with an alien who only talks in cultural metaphors. It's about so much - the power of story, the inability of technology to solve our problems, personal sacrifice, discovery of the unknown - it's just quintessentially Trek.
But, for the record, I liked both Enterprise and the new movie, so what the heck do I know?

lol i watched that episode with my cousin. then the whole week everyday i would bother him about it.
I would stare at him till he imitate picard and say "there are 4 lights" then i would laugh till i cry.
I actually thought that the first few seasons of Voyager and Enterprise where the best, they fell off quickly though. As far as average awsomeness goes I would have to say TNG.
My favorite thing about any one series of Star Trek has to be in DS9, the onlt person who is ever fixing anything is the Engineering cheif. You'd think he would have a helper or something.
For me, hands down, on TOS when they go to the Nazi planet, Ekos.
Number two, when Kirk fights the Gorn and there just happens to be a pile of diamonds sitting there.
Number three, 'Fight me, Jimmy. Fight me.'
I didn't really like the first season of TNG with that lame chocolate sauce monster. I did enjoy the later seasons though. I even went to see the last episode at the Skydome with like 15,000 other nerds. The first episode of DS9 was cool with all the fighting, but I lost interest with it fast.

There were some really cool episodes of DS9. Another one of my personal favorites was late in the series (after Jadzia dies and Ezri takes over the Dax symbiote) when there's a murder on board DS9 - and Ezri transforms into a detective by invoking the spirit of the only criminal/terrorist trill with the Dax symbiote. It was a pretty awesome way to kill somebody in Trek (by firing a sniper rifle and then using something like a super-focused teleporter beam to move the bullet to where you want it to go)
Oh, and the baseball episode was a classic. Worf yelling out "Then hunt him down and kill him!" makes me crack up every time.

By the way, just to show how memorable TOS was, I haven't seen the show in years (having seen chunks of TNG and DS9 plus a huge variety of other shows over that time) and I can still vividly remember all of those episodes. The Chicago gangsters episode was awesome.
