Despite being an Ork Boy I'm thinking of trying out another 40K army and I've gone for Space Wolves. I'm new to 40K in general and know little of the Space Marines backgrounds. I've got the Space wolves Codex but have not read it yet.
I was just thinking of doing something different. The colour scheme I was thinking of is a blue/dark red, probably more in line with Brazen Claws; I guess effectively making my own Chapter.
So, I guess this would be to any Space Wolves players out there; does anyone paint their Space Wolves in anything other than the light blue/grey?

I don't paint them any other color then grey and there about.
But go ahead and do what you want. Just because they are green, orange or whatever doesn't make them any less SW for me.

I myself run my Wolves as a really dark grey. I don't do any of the highliting to get the proper color, I just start with Shadow grey and give it some badab black.
Comes out with really dark looking space wolves, while the color scheme is still recognizeable.

Space wolves are one of the ones without successor chapters. So there aren't any official alternate colors. Plenty of unofficial ones though as people have said. The space wolves that I'm working on are simply metal with a black wash.

They're your models. Paint them as you please.
That said, don't try to pass them off as a SW successor chapter. That doesn't exactly work, fluff wise.

You can pass them off as the 13th company, a detachment that got "lost", or wolves that turned renagade (but still loyal to the imperium).

That's some awesome looking painting there Bear LaMorte. I'm nowhere near that level of skill yet.
I have settled on my colour scheme though. Rather than mixing the two Wolves greys I'm sticking with just the Shadow Grey but with Mechrite Red on the left arm & leg, possibly the red on the helmets of the commanders too.
Thanks for the advice & ideas.

Mine are Space Wolves but they are A light/glowing purple and orange for shoulder pad rims. Highlights are done with yellow.
Growing tierd of doing the same thing everytime and have painted my wolf guards in a very dark grey with red rims. I had a hard time explaining how they worked when they hooked onto other squads so I find this easier. When I finaly get 6 drop pods as well I am looking forward to dropping them down.
Looks cool, but it is a bit overwheling. Espesialy all the purple and orange and no hard black colour makes it feel like an album cover by Jimmy Hendrix. They get frowned on by some but some thinks it's cool. As do I.
Here is a link to a picture of one of the posters by Jimmy Henrix: http://www.oldhandbills.com/images/060623/Jimi_Hendrix_Experience-Fillmore_East.jpg
In truth go wild. do what you want. The only regrett I have is that all the grey/baby blue for regular Space Wolves put a very good focus the times colour breaks the pattern (like on the shoulder pads.) But seing the Jimmy Hendrix Epersience on the table is very chaotic witch is what Space Wolves should feel like in my exstreme opinion.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

Mine are black and red, and have been since I first got them (10 years ago). The only "complaint" I received was in a 5th ed tournament when I said "they're Space Wolves" and one of the organizers saw the 13th Company chaos bits and said "no they're not...", like I was Codex-hopping... but yeah, otherwise no one really cares as long as they look cool.
Oh, but don't bother trying to justify the colour difference. I tried years ago but all the ideas I came up with didn't really work very well so I just said "screw it, they're Space Wolves, I offer no justification for their markings."
