How would you do the fluff for a Aztec/Mayan Themed space marine army.

I could see as a perfect cross of Word Bearers and World Eater. but I was wondering what everyone else thought.

a friend asked me to come up with the fluff for his marines.

Lizardmen and space marine(Chaos or loyal idk yet) parts are what will be used. Lizardmen for CC weapons and Iconography,

Also the Ouroboros will be the Chapter emblem, so Snakes

so Any Ideas

Make them a loyalist chapter as we are running low on loyalists In this dark Millennium.
I fully support this Chapter.
Use the Blood Angels book so that you may have the red thirst that the Mayans are famous for. That way they seem more like their orginial selves. I suggest also reading about them too. Also the Lizardmen idea is awesome!

I also believe that they were famous for their gold. Make their planet like Prospero except South American. But you should make it a chapter full of psykers XD. It only makes sense to have psykers.

And then their elite troops you can just nickname after Mayan Gods!

Good Luck. Just ask if you need help with this. Our community will be glad to help.

Actually a very cool idea if you ask me. While I'd say the BA would be a good be, I would think them something along the lines of a loyal 1000 sons chapter with a high number of psykers given the Mayan/Aztec connection with astronomy.

I was doing this many years ago, even got a prototype paintjob done lol! But mine was for Aztec. I would suggest Black Templars if you want to keep the spirit of Meso-American warfare in your chapter. They would have the veteran warriors supported by the apprentices in combat, much like the Black Templars do. Just my $.02, I am as interested in precolumbian Mexico as sci-fi lol!

If I can find a pic of my fig I will post it later.

Black Templars really? No....
They are more like the thousand sons. So Blood Angels codex would work more...

Thanks guys

I had already thought about the blood angels as the codex to base them off, Mainly because of the Chaplains and Priests which I felt would be more "fluffy" than a high number of Pyskers.

my only thing is I am having trouble trying to flesh it out. I have the basics down, it is just the finer details I am confused with

"Lets get Dangerous."

History works. Just collect some squads of marines. And combine it with the lizardmen. Intrested in their name. look here.

You should look into the different types of Aztec warrior. There is a lot of potential in the animal costumes, head-dresses and banners.

I had considered doing this. my only problem would be on how to actually create the headdresses and costumes for them.

Thanks for the input that was another step i was having trouble with, only question is why Salamanders.

I had read about them at some point in my past, I really liked them so I might just end up doing this.

thank you all very much for the input I really enjoy it.

Just paint the SM armour in the animal costume colours.

You can get banners here.

http://www.outpostwargameservices.co.uk/aztec.html

If you want to do the headdresses there are several alternatives.

1. Just paint the SM helmet.
2. Buy cheap Aztec figures to saw off the heads for transplantation.
3. Modify existing SM heads with green stuff.
4. Make new heads and mould them in resin.

Hmm, Paint the helmet and the Shoulder pad in the appropriate animal theme. jaguar, Eagle etc.

I definitely Like it.

Now I just need a name for the chapter lol

I would vote against painting them completely in animal colours. Like camo marines, I just don't think it would suit the models. Animals on the shoulders and animal helmets would look better.

I completely agree with you.

Left shoulder pad gives them their Company marking and Chapter emblem, Right Shoulder pad gives them their "squad" which will be in a animal marking. and then the helmet will match.

Also might do the whole they are bound to the company they belong to but also all warriors of the same "lodge/animal spirits" are bound to each other regardless of their company.

So far
Jaguar warriors will be Veteran Tactical squads
Aztec Warriors will be Veteran Assault squads

the rest of the squads will be standard. all of them striving to be accepted into the elite ranks of the chapters warriors.

Becuase I honestly can't think of anything else even remotely close to resembling a proper founding legion for that chapter to have come from?

I Don't like the names with Hawks or Jaguar in it. because I feel like it places improper emphasis on a certain aspect. and my Battle brothers would not enjoy that, their is going to be a fierce Rivalry between Jaguar Knights and Eagle Warriors within my Chapter.

So far the chapter has 9 Companies. the 10th company is abolished. Each of the companies recruits its own members. Instead of them forming into scout squads they are giving power armour and assigned to a combat unit under the tutelage of a Veteran. these warriors strive to become members of the elite warrior aspects.

these aspects are the Jaguar and Eagle. Each aspect is responsible for its own. and because of this the chapter is divided into 3 sections. The aspects and the unproven. all 3 of these are divided among the 9 companies. and by doing this it creates webs of loyalty. It was designed like this to keep it from any large portion of the chapter to turn rouge like in the Horus heresy.

Their is also a 4th section of the chapter. this is made up of the Priesthood, whose members are typically divided into librarians and Chaplains in other chapters.

Because they follow aspects and their view of the Emperor is off they have been in conflict with members of the Ordo hereticus and the Ordo Xenos.

Xenos = Because they use aspects much like the Eldar.
Hereticus = Because their religous beliefs are very much different from those of the Ecclesiarchy's teaching.

The Xenos over came their difference's quietly and without violence. In exchange Warriors cycle through and do "tours of duty" with the Deathwatch.

the Ecclesiarchy is still at odds

Paint them with dark skin and then retcon the fluff 20 years later so that they have jet black skin with red eyes.

You could really mix in the Lizardmen range if you wanted to - bikers made from Cold Ones and Marines, and you could probably go crazy with a Stegadon. I've seen a Black Templars army do something similar with dragons.

Another codex you could use is space wolf (though I agree, BA is better suited)

Heres an Idea, give the squad a helmet in the shape of the animal their squad is themed as!
Name them THE SONS OF AZTECIA!

Oh, and have Shorn Ones!

You like to Exclaim things don't you?

and I had thought about the Wolves codex but decided the Blood Angels would give me the feel I wanted a little bit better.

I have the Paint scheme down and most of the of the basic fluff. The name is still the only thing I can't get

"Lets get Dangerous."

A possible name could be Sons of Tlochtlan, or some suitably stereotypical Mayincatec name. Their religion could be that they worship the Emperor and the Omnissiah as two separate Animal Aspects of the same god, Hawk/Jaguar or something like that, and both together as the Feathered Snake. and that the rivalry between the in-Chapter groups comes from personal preference for each Aspect. The truly devout worship both Aspects, so Chaplains could have either the Feathered Serpent or Hawk+Jaguar elements on armor. Dreads could be Hawk-themed for Normal, Jaguar for Ironclad, Feathered Serpent for Venerable.
Just a few ideas.

(I saw that you had the basic fluff down, but I'd still like to see what you think of these ideas.)
